Thrax woke up at 6am to the sound of his alarm ringing on his bedside table. He quickly turned it off and jerked his head round to check that it hadn't woken Ozzy up. Luckily, he was a heavy sleeper, and simply stretched before snoring again.

Today was his birthday, and Thrax wanted to buy him some breakfast and take care of a few errands before he woke up.

The light was streaming in through a gap in the curtains and Thrax cocked his head as he admired the way it was softly illuminating Ozzy's face. His hair was hanging messily over his forehead, his cheek was shoved into the pillow, his lips were slightly parted and he was loosely holding the blanket with one hand.

It was taking all of Thrax's willpower not to pull him into a hug and kiss him all over, but he begrudgingly slipped out of bed, put on his jacket and grabbed his rucksack. He tiptoed downstairs, put Donut's lead on, shushed her so she didn't make any noise, and left the house.

The morning air was cool and refreshing as he hurried to the same café that he and Ozzy had first gone to when they came into this body. He ordered a few croissants, some hot chocolate and a chocolate crêpe to go.

Then, he leaned over the counter slightly and said in a hushed voice, while sliding some money towards the barista, "hey, you couldn't do me a favour, could ya?"

He left the café, stopping at a few different places on the way home. Every time he stopped to do something, Donut would run around in circles and bark excitedly, sensing that today was a special day.

He leant down and stroked her head. "Yep, that's right, today is Ozzy's birthday. Make sure to give him a big kiss when he wakes up, alright?"

When he got home, he hung his jacket up and put all of the food on a tray to bring it upstairs to their bedroom. He peeked around the door and sighed with relief to see Ozzy still asleep, now in a different position to the way he'd left him. He was on his side now, facing the door, all curled up in the blankets with his knees up to his chest.

Jesus Christ, could he be any cuter?

Thrax placed the tray on the nightstand and went around to the other side of the bed to spoon him and gently kiss his neck. Ozzy groaned and turned around to face him.

"Good morning, baby", Thrax whispered as he stroked his head, "happy birthday."

Ozzy grinned and all the tiredness suddenly melted away. He sat up and yelled, "It's my birthday! Can we go out and get some breakfast? I want something sweet."

Thrax rested his head on his elbow and smiled. "Look behind you, baby."

Ozzy turned around and saw the tray full of his favourite foods. He kissed Thrax on the lips before grabbing the tray and putting it on his lap. He handed a croissant to Thrax and started devouring the crêpe, throwing his head back and moaning loudly as he swallowed.

"This is fuckin' beautiful!"

When he had finished, Thrax put the tray on his nightstand, reached under the bed, pulled out a large paper bag and plonked it between Ozzy's legs.

Ozzy looked up at him with a wide grin and shoved his hand in. He took out a parcel wrapped in blue paper and shook it next to his ear.

Thrax put his hand out and said, "be careful with that one, baby! Don't shake it too much." Ozzy ripped the paper off to see a few empty photo frames. He looked at Thrax with a puzzled expression. "There's no photos in here."

Thrax raised an eyebrow and handed him another present. "That's because there's no photos to put in them, yet. Open this one." Ozzy tore the paper off and gasped; it was a brand new, top of the range digital camera. He looked up at Thrax with a big smile on his face, before putting the camera down and throwing his arms around his neck.

"Holy shit, thank you! I love it! Now I can take as many photos of you as I like!"

Thrax laughed and patted him on the back of the head. "Don't make me regret buying that for you, baby. Go on, open another one."

Ozzy went through the bag and opened all the presents. In total, Thrax had bought him a coupon for a three-day weekend at a couples spa, a jacket identical to the one he used to wear in Frank, a dessert recipe book, and a plushie of a cold pill.

Ozzy held the plushie and stared at it with wide eyes. "It looks just like Drips! Where the hell did you get this?"

"There's a kids' store down near the kidneys. I was looking for something to get you and saw that. It reminded me of your cold pill friend, so I thought you might like to have it, y'know, in case you miss him."

He paused, before adding, "but I better not catch you hugging it at night, ya hear?"

Ozzy shook his head and placed the plushie next to him on the bed, as Thrax handed him another present from the drawer in his bedside table.

"This one is for if you're ever out in a public place without me and get that urge, y'know."

Ozzy took the wrapping off and stared down at a massive dark red dildo with thick ridges along the sides, and Thrax started laughing.

Ozzy shot him a disgruntled look. "Ha ha, very funny."

Thrax pinched his cheek and got up from the bed. "Come on, get dressed and we'll go out. I've got a little surprise for you."

Thrax and Ozzy walked hand in hand down the narrow streets, Ozzy excitedly babbling away and giving him a rundown of all his favourite desserts, trying to order them from 'good' to 'exquisite'.

Thrax stopped in his tracks and smiled at him, letting out a small sigh. "right, well, that's really interesting and all, but we're here", he said, gesturing at a small restaurant in front of them.

They stepped inside and Thrax whispered something to the host, before they were led through a side door. They walked down a dark corridor which opened out into a cosy little private room with booth seating and hanging tealights.

Thrax gestured for Ozzy to sit down, before sliding in next to him and pointing at the ceiling. Ozzy looked up and gasped when he saw 'Happy birthday, Ozzy' written out of blue flowers stuck to the ceiling, with a pink love heart made out of roses underneath.

He turned to look at Thrax and opened and closed his mouth quickly, trying to find the words.

"H-how did you think of all of this?" He put his hands on Thrax's arm and squeezed slightly. "I don't deserve this, Thrax, you're bein' way too nice. The presents would've been enough. Hell, the crêpe would've been enough!"

"Shh, baby, don't be ridiculous. It's your birthday, just let me treat you nicely today. Then tomorrow I promise I'll go back to being mean old grumpy Thrax."

Ozzy smiled and picked up the menu from the middle of the table. He laughed loudly when he saw that the only two options on there were 'A big pot of melted cheese' and 'Ozzy's birthday cake'.

"Do you know what you want yet, baby?", Thrax said, smirking and pinching Ozzy's arm.

When the fondue arrived, Ozzy's eyes opened wide and he licked his lips. "How do I eat this then? Do I stick my hand straight in the cheese?"

"Good God, no!", Thrax exclaimed, picking up a fork and stabbing a piece of bread. He dipped it in the cheese and made sure to twirl it around to get as much cheese on it as possible.

"Okay, open wide and try to take the bread off the fork with your teeth, so you don't burn yourself." Ozzy did as he was told and carefully pulled at the bread with his teeth.

He screwed his eyes shut and leant his head back against the seat. "Mmm! Fuck me, that's good. Feed me another one."

They finished the whole pot and Thrax wiped some cheese off of Ozzy's chin with a napkin.

"You're sure you want your cake now, baby? You did just eat almost an entire loaf of bread and about three weeks worth of cheese." Ozzy nodded excitedly and rubbed his hands together.

"I really don't understand where you put it all, Jones. You never stop eating and yet you still have this teeny tiny waist." Thrax put his hands around Ozzy's middle and frowned.

"I dunno, maybe because I have all this nervous energy, it gets burnt off. Anyway, I dunno what you're grumblin' about, have you seen your body?", Ozzy said, running his fingers over Thrax's arm.

"That's because I live off of coffee and work out every day. If I ate like you I'd be the size of a house. Just wait until you hit twenty-five next year, then you'll see", Thrax muttered.

The waiter brought the cake in and Thrax hurriedly covered Ozzy's eyes with one hand before he could see it.

"Ow, you almost gouged my eyes out, you cretin."

"Oops, sorry."

The cake was left on the table and Thrax lit the candles with his claw. "Okay, baby, three, two, one…", he lifted his hand and Ozzy gasped when he saw a two tier chocolate cake decorated with strawberries and Oreos in front of him.

On the top were two little edible figurines that somewhat resembled Ozzy and Thrax.

"Holy shit! That's so cool, it's me and you! This looks de-li-cious. Y'know, it kinda looks like a wedding cake." He laughed and prodded Thrax in the side. "Is this a proposal, Thrax?"

Thrax inhaled sharply and stiffened in his seat. "No, like I said before, you'd know if it was."

The blue figurine was holding a small brown blob and Ozzy narrowed his eyes as he tried to make out what it was. "What's that in my arms?"

"Oh, that's meant to be Donut, but she didn't come out like I wanted…"

Ozzy gawked at him with wide eyes and grabbed onto his sleeve. "Wait, you made this?!"

Thrax nodded and put his arm around Ozzy's shoulder. "Go on, blow your candles out. Mini me is starting to melt."

Once they were home, Thrax led Ozzy to the sofa and gently pushed on his shoulders to make him sit down. He knelt down in front of him and held his hand. "Okay, baby. I have another little surprise for you, but you've gotta promise me that you'll cover your eyes until I say so."

Ozzy grinned and shot his hands over his eyes, excited to see what Thrax had in store for him.

Thrax stood up and started walking away, saying, "and I don't wanna catch you peeking! Don't make me blindfold you."

"Don't threaten me with a good time!", Ozzy replied, keeping his hands over his eyes.

Thrax went over to the kitchen and pulled something out of a cabinet. He slowly sauntered towards Ozzy with a big grin plastered on his face and his hands behind his back.

"You must be real thirsty after all that cake, baby...", he said, before pulling a huge water gun out from behind his back and squirting Ozzy in the face and all down his side.

Ozzy spluttered and wiped his face with his hands. "Argh, you twat!"

Thrax laughed and chucked a second gun for him to catch. Ozzy grinned and jumped up to stand on the sofa, aiming the gun at Thrax as he ran back into the kitchen.

"Sorry, baby, but it's time you take your medicine," Ozzy said in a low voice. He fired and soaked Thrax's leg, the sofa arm and the kitchen table. Thrax ducked behind the archway and shot at Ozzy, but he was too quick.

He dodged the water and darted over the sofa, squishing himself between the wall and the end table.

"That's not fair", Thrax whined, "you're not allowed to make yourself all small like that!" He ducked down and crawled across the floor, trying to get closer to where Ozzy was hiding.

"It's my birthday, I can do what I want!", Ozzy yelled back, as he leapt out and sprayed Thrax directly in the face from above.

"You little shit", Thrax shouted, and tackled him to the ground. He straddled him and aimed the gun straight at his face. "Now Big Daddy Thrax is really gonna let you have it, baby."

Ozzy covered his face with the gun and screwed his eyes shut, waiting for Thrax to squirt him.

Instead, he felt Thrax put his arms around him and scoop him up. He pressed his lips against Ozzy's and carried him to the sofa.

Ozzy threw his gun to the side as Thrax dropped him onto the sofa and kneeled over him.

They peeled their soaking clothes off, before pressing their bodies together again and hungrily devouring each other's mouths.

Ozzy raked his fingers through Thrax's hair and broke the kiss to look him in the eyes. "I love you", he said breathlessly.

Thrax brushed his lips against his cheek and whispered it back before moving downwards to settle between his legs.

Ozzy moaned loudly and threw his head back as he felt Thrax put his mouth around him. He forced Ozzy's legs up by his head and caressed the inside of his thighs as he took him to the back of his throat.

Ozzy jerked his head down to look at Thrax with pleading eyes and shook his head. "I want you…", he tried to say, impatiently clawing at his shoulders and pulling him until he was leaning over him again.

"What's wrong, baby?", Thrax said with a concerned expression, panting heavily, his hands planted on either side of Ozzy's head.

"I want you to fuck me", Ozzy begged through ragged breaths, as he threw his legs around Thrax's waist and pressed their foreheads together. "I want you to fuck me like you don't give a shit about me."

Thrax cricked his neck from side to side as Ozzy helped him with his belt. "I'm impressed, Jones. I didn't think you'd be able to take the heat."

Ozzy grinned and looked up at him. "Well obviously you've gotta up your game, you're not a spring chickenpock anymore, y'know!"

Thrax laughed and sat down on the sofa. "Come sit with me, baby." Ozzy jumped onto his lap and kissed him on the cheek as Thrax put his arm around him and squeezed his shoulder.

His face was suddenly very serious and he inhaled sharply before speaking.

"Okay, baby. I've prepared a little treasure hunt for you. There are some presents hidden all around the neighbourhood and you have to follow the clues and find them. Put that cop brain to good use."

He reached into his trouser pocket and pulled out a small piece of paper. Ozzy unfolded it and read what it said: 'The first place we ever went to when we arrived in this body '.

Ozzy furrowed his brow and tried to remember where they had gone, as Thrax lifted him up from his lap and placed him on the sofa. He stood up and went into the kitchen, sighing heavily.

"Aren't you gonna come with me?"

"No, baby. This is something you have to do alone, I'm afraid. Don't worry, I'll be here." He leaned over the kitchen island, resting his elbows on it and smiling at Ozzy.

Ozzy looked back down at the note in his hands and grinned. "I know! I remember now!", he yelled, as he jumped up from the sofa. He put his jacket on and ran out of the door.

Thrax exhaled deeply and pressed his forehead against the cold counter below him. He hoped that everything worked out okay and that his plan would come together.

Ozzy raced to the café where he and Thrax had gone on their first day in Lola and burst through the door, making everyone jump. He skipped up to the counter and asked if anyone had left anything for him here.

The barista nodded and pointed over to the corner of the room, to the same table where they had sat before. There was a box of his favourite donuts on the table, with a small card on top. He opened the envelope and started reading.

'Well done, baby, you've solved the first clue.

The way your little face lit up the first time I bought you that box of donuts was the moment I knew I loved you. You have such a magical way of always seeing the world through a positive lens and finding the good in every situation, and you've helped me see it too. Eat up and make sure you never lose that beautiful quality.

Next clue: I need to control my temper and you need to learn to ask for permission.'

Ozzy smiled, immediately knowing where he had to go. He put the letter in his pocket and shovelled the donuts into his mouth, eating at a speed only he could match, impatient to get to the next clue.

He thanked the barista and charged round the corner to the alleyway where they had had their first argument. He went to the end of the alley and looked around, until his eyes landed on a small cardboard box in the corner. He opened it and gasped when he saw a brand new Rolex.

He bent down and struggled to put it on, his hands shaking all the while, before noticing another letter at the bottom of the box.

'Very good, baby!

Even though this isn't the happiest moment we have ever shared, I think we learned a lot about each other.

I learned that you're just about as stubborn and strong-headed as I am, but also that you're incredibly patient and forgiving.

At the same time, I learned that no matter how angry I am at you, I will always want to care for you, protect you and love you.

We've grown a lot since then and I'm so thankful for every moment we've shared.

Next clue: don't make a sound.'

Ozzy looked puzzled at first, until it dawned on him. The clothing store… that lanky prick, he thought.

He groaned, embarrassed about having to step foot in that shop again, and swung his body round to walk out onto the main street.

He trudged his way to the shop, dragging his feet and nervously mumbling to himself. He cautiously entered the shop and shuffled over to the counter. Mercifully, it was a different assistant than the last time.

"H-hi, my name's Ozzy. Has anyone left anything for me here?"

The assistant rolled her eyes and pointed at the changing room with her thumb, while obnoxiously chewing bubble gum. Ozzy walked over to it and pulled back the curtain. He jumped as rose petals fell from the ceiling and floated down around him. He laughed to himself and picked up the note on the stool.

'Another clue found! What a clever little baby I have.

We had fun in here, didn't we? I know I did. You're by far the most beautiful little thing I've ever seen, Ozzy. You're absolutely gorgeous to me in every way, from the moment you wake up and your face is all squishy, to when you're moaning my name and scratching the fuck out of my back.'

Ozzy blushed and bit his lip.

'The first time we were 'together' on that awful sofa in your flat, the only thoughts going through my mind were "holy shit, holy shit, HOLY SHIT. This guy is stunning, how did I get so lucky? Okay, Thrax, give him the best time of his life to make sure he comes back for more."'

Ozzy laughed and covered his cheek with his hand.

'Every single time with you has been different, unexpected and ridiculously hot. We learned a little bit more about each other and our understanding of one another grew deeper. Thank you for being so open, trusting, adventurous and caring.

Look under the stool, there's another little gift for you. Do me a favour and put them on, would you?

Next clue: our baby'.

"Our baby…? Donut!", he exclaimed, before peeking under the stool to find a short-sleeved purple shirt and black trousers. He changed into his new clothes and shoved the letter in his back pocket.

He ran out of the shop towards their house, a big grin on his face. When he arrived, he was greeted by Donut at the gate, wagging her tail, and with a small card hanging from her collar.

He kneeled down and kissed her on the head, before taking the envelope.

'You did it, baby. There's still one more surprise though. Go inside and follow the thread to find out what it is'.

Ozzy opened the door and noticed a thick, red thread in the centre of the room. He saw that it continued up the stairs and started to follow it.

He reached the first floor and stopped in his tracks when he saw the landing covered in tealight candles. He swallowed thickly and called out for Thrax, but there was no reply.

He continued following the thread, stepping very carefully around all the candles and trembling with anticipation. It led him up the next flight of stairs and trailed under the door to the roof terrace.

He slowly pushed the door open and peered round. The thread stopped in the middle of the terrace, just before a wooden box, which was surrounded by more candles.

He crept over to it and lifted the lid. What he saw made him gasp and cover his mouth with his hand.

In the box was something he never thought he'd see again: the photograph of him graduating from the police academy. What... when... how?!

He held it tightly with shaking hands for a few moments, before taking his jacket off and placing it on the floor. He put the photo on top of the jacket and looked back in the box.

He furrowed his brow as he pulled out a squished paper cup. What the hell…? He turned it round and his jaw dropped when he saw the logo of his old coffee shop back in Frank.

It can't be. His breath caught in his throat when he realised that it was the same cup that he had thrown at Thrax when he was trying to tickle him back in his old flat, the same cup he'd drunk out of when they had their first real conversation.

He stared at it, completely gobsmacked. He kept this cup all this time?

He placed it down next to the photo and saw something else in the box that he thought he'd never see again. He laughed as he pulled out his old, lime-green pyjamas with aliens on them. I can't believe I wore these in front of him on our first night together, he thought to himself. He brought them up to his face and smiled when he realised that they still smelled faintly of his old flat.

Next was a photo album, full of pictures of him and Thrax together that he had taken on his disposable camera. He flicked through it, a big grin plastered on his face, as he read all the little notes that Thrax had written next to each photo, describing what they had done on the day they were taken.

When he got to the end of the album, there was another note stuck to the back page.

'You see how I'm smiling in every single one of these? That's all thanks to you, Ozzy. You've made me happy in ways I can't even describe. I promise I'll spend the rest of my days trying to give you a quarter of the joy you've given me.'

Ozzy felt tears in his eyes and a lump in his throat. He set the album down and peeked into the box again. At the bottom there was another letter.

He opened it, his hands shaking violently, overwhelmed by all the emotions surging through his body.

'My Ozzy, my baby, my everything.

You're probably tired of hearing me go on about how much I love you and how amazing you are. Well, I'm sorry, my love, but I won't ever stop saying it, so you're just going to have to get used to it.

You're the most beautiful thing that has ever happened to me and I feel blessed everyday to have you in my life.

Thank you for saving me, both literally and figuratively. You risked everything to save my life that day, but what you don't know is that you also saved me from myself. You turned me into someone that I can love; someone I can look at in the mirror and be proud of.

I still don't know how or why I get to call you mine, but I'll just thank my lucky stars that I do, for as long as you'll have me.

Today is your birthday, baby, but believe me when I say that you're the best present I could ever receive'.

Ozzy heard some shuffling behind him and spun round, a tear running down his cheek.

There was Thrax, dressed in a dark grey shirt, a purple tie and black trousers, with one hand behind his back.

He leant down to his level and wiped away the tears with his thumb. He exhaled heavily and got down on one knee in front of him, bringing his hand round to the front. Ozzy's hands shot over his mouth and more tears spilled down his cheeks when he realised what was happening.

"Ozzy, you came into my life not three months ago and stole my heart. You followed me around relentlessly, foiling my plan every step of the way and ruining my chances of getting into the medical books.

I think I can forgive you, though, as you showed me everything that I had been missing all my life.

You've made me happier than I thought possible, made me laugh louder than I thought I was allowed to, made me see that there is good in the world, and made my life brighter and more colourful than I could've possibly imagined."

He swallowed and pulled at his collar, suddenly feeling extremely nervous.

"The life we have created together is one that I thought I didn't deserve, but you've shown me that I do deserve it. You're so incredibly gorgeous, inside and out."

He opened his palm to show a small black box.

"Will you make me the happiest man alive and be mine forever?"

He popped the box open and Ozzy's eyes shot down to see a silver ring with a dark red stone.

"Will you marry me, Ozzy?"

Ozzy's eyes darted back up to stare at Thrax and his whole body started trembling out of his control. He tore his hands from his mouth and tried to say yes, but nothing came out. His brain was screaming at him and all of his thoughts were a jumbled mess ricocheting around his head.

He tried desperately to give Thrax an answer, but couldn't get anything to come out of his mouth, and tears started gushing out of his eyes.

He was so overwhelmed by everything that Thrax had written, said and done for him during the whole day, and all he could do was throw his arms around Thrax's neck and sob into his shoulder.

Thrax slowly put his arms around him and said softly, "Ozzy, I'm sorry, was it too much? Is this not what you want?"

Ozzy pulled away to look Thrax in the eye. He tried to speak through the sobs, "no… it was… perfect. Everything… was perfect."

"I-is that a yes?"

Ozzy put his hands on Thrax's cheeks and nodded quickly, before pressing his lips against his. Thrax shut his eyes and wrapped his arms around Ozzy's waist, standing up and lifting him off the ground.

They stayed like this for a few moments, losing themselves in each other. Thrax tightened his grip around Ozzy's waist and felt as tears started forming in his eyes.

He broke away to catch his breath and put Ozzy back on the ground, before sliding the ring onto his finger. He held him by the face and pressed their foreheads together. "I love you so fucking much, Ozzy. You have no idea how happy you've made me, tonight and always."

He kissed him on the cheek, stood up to his full height and tilted his head back, exhaling all the anxious energy that had been running through him during the last week.

Ozzy wiped his eyes and stepped out of Thrax's shadow to see his ring a bit better.

As he admired his new piece of jewellery, Thrax took a small remote out of his pocket. He pressed a button and the radio started playing.

He held out his hand and smiled softly. "May I have this dance, fiancé?"

Ozzy smiled and nodded, before taking his hand and placing the other one over Thrax's shoulder. Thrax pulled him closer and put his hand over his waist as Ozzy rested his head on his chest.

They danced slowly, their bodies pressed against each other and their eyes closed.

The world was on fire and no one could save me but you.

Ozzy opened his eyes and looked up at him, a big smile on his face.

It's strange what desire will make foolish people do.

Thrax looked down at Ozzy and smiled back at him, while running his claws up his back.

I never dreamed that I'd meet somebody like you.

He leant down and pressed his lips against Ozzy's, holding the back of his head so tightly it was as if he never wanted to let him go. He eventually broke away and whispered against his mouth, "I love you, Ozzy."

"I love you too", Ozzy whispered back as he stroked his hand with his thumb, laughing when Thrax spun him out. He pulled him back in and kissed him on his forehead. They kept dancing in silence long after the song had ended, simply enjoying being with each other.
