No more than an hour later, Joy, Fear, Sadness, and Anger each packed their bags, now only waiting on Disgust. They planned to leave before Riley slept.
However, when the green emotion finally showed up, she had an uneasy expression and hands empty without her bags.
"Umm... Joy? D-Don't you think someone should stay behind tonight to guard Riley in case something bad tends to happen. I don't want anything else to happen to her ever since Surprise got here and left."
She embraced herself with a frown of the yellow emotion, but in stead, Joy grinned.
"Great idea, Disgust! And thank you! Yes, that would be super helpful. Would you like to volunteer and stay?"
Disgust nearly with squealed with delight before clearing her throat and taking out her pocket mirror. "Ugh, yeah. I mean... someone has to."
"Excellent!"
"Hey, sweetie," Mom spoke through the Monitor, "tomorrow's the big day, how do you feel?"
Disgust scoffed and got ready to lead Riley, but Joy stopped her and got closer to the Monitor, wanting to hear Riley's own words.
Riley shrugged.
"Fine... I guess. No big deal."
"No big deal?!" Anger growled.
"Shhh." Joy silenced him, still looking through Riley's Monitor.
Mom laughed. "I understand. But always remember, I'll always be by your side if you ever need anything, no matter how old you get alright?"
Riley nodded.
"Thanks Mom. Love you."
"Love you too." Riley headed to her room with a smile.
"I'll be upsairs in a few for your kiss alright?"
Riley shook her head. "Thanks Mom, but I'll be fine tonight. Thanks again!"
The emotions stood stunned.
"We have to fix this before she wakes up again." Fear said.
The sound of wheels and a loud engine made Joy gasp.
"The Train of Thought! We must catch it before it leaves, come on!"
They all rushed, but before properly exiting, Joy glanced at Disgust. "Don't let anyone come inside or near the console!" She told her. "No one. Protect Headquarters!"
Disgust rolled her eyes. "Like duh! Joy, I can handle eight hours by myself here!"
"Just saying!" Joy followed the others.
The train always came when Riley woke up, when she was bored, or about to sleep to think of the day she had to deliver.
Once four of the emotions were outside, Joy signaled the train to stop, and once it did, all emotions got on board.
"You think they'll get a special place for us." Anger murmured, having to sit on a box.
Joy shrugged. "You get used to it eventually."
"Tickets please." The conductor, a tall, purple Mind Worker with a tall gray hat striped with white lines and googles suddenly said from the cab.
"Ugh..." Joy looked at the others, but all looked as confused as she did at the moment.
The conductor then laughed. "Just kidding!"
"I told you not to pull those pranks anymore, Jerry." The driver, a short blue Mind Worker with a black mustache said next to him with a frown.
Jerry continued laughing. "Come on! It's hilarious!"
Joy grinned.
Anger growled.
Fear sighed in relief, then looked at a box full of memories. "I still can't believe we're actually doing this."
Joy smiled and put her hand on top of his. "It's gonna definitely be worth it." She ressured everyone.
She then picked up the closest joyful memory next to her, it was a five year-old Riley playing with sock puppets, making Mom and Dad laugh.
Joy held the tighter with both hands. "I just know it." She finished smiling.
"And where would we be going?" The driver asked the emotions from the cab, although not looking behind him.
"Sadness?" Joy turned to the blue emotion.
"Imagination Land, please." Sadness told the driver.
"To Imagination Land we go!" The driver said.
The engine blew.
Choo-choo!
