Pokemon: The Story of Zealex Nexus Chapter 3: Episode 1: A New Friend!, a pokémon fanfic

At this moment the boy named Zealex Nexus found himself in a somewhat confusing situation.

First he had been sensing the feelings of something within the forest near their town, now a weird holographic screen suddenly appeared before him just as he confirmed that the feelings he was sensing was from an injured Froakie running away from a group of Spearows.

"Kaw!"

"Froa..kie!" As the group of Spearows began to surround the small injured Froakie, the small blue frog made an effort to stand and defend itself.

"That Froakie isn't gonna last too long." Thought Zealex as he saw the situation while hiding behind large bushes. Besides this he was also sensing the Froakie's growing desperation.

At that moment Zealex unconsciously turned towards the holographic screen in front of him.

The contents of the screen were not unfamiliar to him. It was basically showing him the items and images he would normally see in Pokemon games.

Healing items, different types of pokeballs, even TMs were being shown.

The bottom left corner of the screen was also showing something else.

[Your Pokepoints = 300]

Zealex: "Beside each item there seems to be a specific amount of Pokepoints stated, is that their prices?"

"Froa...kie..." At this moment Froakie could be seen constantly struggling to keep the group of Spearows away using it's 'Bubble' move.

However it was clear that it was nearing it's limit.

"Kaw!"

Seeing that the number of bubbles were now decreasing, the Spearows knew it was time to counter attack.

"Kaw!"

After popping all of Froakie's remaining bubbles using their 'Peck' moves, the group of Spearows proceeded to start attacking the weakened little Froakie.

By this point Zealex couldn't help but remember a scene from his previous life.

That time when he was assigned to guard a kid of a CEO... back then he had to fight off a group of professionals who wanted to kidnap the kid.

That scene was quite similar what he was seeing now.

Surrounded by enemies... feeling weak... getting more and more desperate with every passing exchange.

Remembering this Zealex could no longer suppress the desire to help the injured Froakie.

As Zealex stared sharply at the holographic screen, he couldn't help but feel that this thing might actually help.

"I wonder..." Thought Zealex as he didn't hesitate to quickly click on the item called 'Fresh Water' on the holographic screen.

Suddenly the 'Pokepoints' showed on the screen was changed from 300 to 250.

whoosh...

At that moment a bottle of that very 'Fresh Water' he had clicked on mysteriously appeared in his hand.

"How mysterious." Muttered the boy as he stared at the bottle of Fresh Water in his hand.

Bang!

"Froa!!!" Sounded the injured Froakie as it was sent flying by one of the Spearows attacks.

However despite this the injured Froakie still stood up once again with some difficulty.

whoosh...

"Froa?" Out of nowhere a bottle of Fresh Water suddenly came flying towards Froakie which he then caught by reflex.

"Kaw!"

"F-Froa!" But before Froakie could even inspect what the bottle was, the Spearows came attacking once more.

Clak!

"Froakie!" Froakie unconsciously used the bottle in his hands to block a Spearow's Peck attack which resulted in the bottle of Fresh Water being broken and the water inside spilling on to Froakie.

"Froa?" It was then that Froakie began to notice that most of his wounds and injuries started healing instantly.

"Froakie!" Froakie didn't really understand what was going on but it knew that this was his best chance of getting away with his injuries and wounds mostly healed.

"Froakie!" Shouted the little Froakie as it began using the move 'Quick Attack' which resulted in it's body being outlined with blue light while moving at extreme speeds.

"Kaw?"

Thanks to the speed boost bestowed by Quick Attack, the little Froakie was able to dash and jump around the area unpredictably which completely caught the group of Spearows by surprise.

"Fro-Froakie!" "Kaw?!"

With his current speed Froakie was able to position itself onto a Spearow's blindspot and land an unexpected attack on that Spearow.

This naturally resulted in that Spearow being sent flying which also caught the attention of the other Spearows.

"Kaw!"

But before the group of Spearows could do anything else, Froakie took advantage of it's current speed and disappeared into the trees.

"Kaw!"

Seeing this the group of Spearows immediately gave chase to the direction that Froakie disappeared in.

"Woah... That Froakie was kinda good." Thought Zealex upon witnessing everything that just occurred.

As the son of a Gym Leader and younger brother of trainers, he had naturally seen his fair share of pokemon battles which is why he could judge that the Froakie's 'Quick Attack' just now was definitely better than most.

"Still I was a bit worried there for a moment when the Froakie used the bottle to block an attack... Good thing it still all worked out." Muttered Zealex as he stood up and started walking towards the direction of the forest entrance.

"But... I still haven't figured out why I could sense that Froakie's feelings though." Thought the boy as he continued walking.

Unbeknownst to him though the Froakie from earlier had already been staring at him the moment he stood up from the bushes.

"Froakie..." It was on a large branch attached to a tall tree behind Zealex. It had hid within this tree's large leaves to get away from the group of Spearows.

Arriving near the forest entrance Zealex was staring at the holographic screen once again and said: "Now to figure out what this thing is all about."

Scratching his head Zealex muttered: "Actually it's kinda bothersome that it's been floating in front of me like this."

whoosh...

As if having heard his words the holographic screen instantly vanished like it was never there in the first place.

"What the... It's gone?!" Exclaimed Zealex upon seeing the holographic screen suddenly disappear.

But before Zealex could even start thinking about why the screen disappeared, his body once again shuddered due to a familiar feeling.

When he turned around, Zealex immediately spotted a familiar Froakie standing about a meter behind him.

Zealex: "You're... that Froakie from earlier?"

"Fro...Froakie..." The light blue colored frog then jumped near Zealex and took out a small object from it's frubbles... It was a piece of the broken Fresh Water bottle.

Seeing this Zealex simply said: "That's... a piece of the bottle I threw earlier?"

"Froakie!" Hearing Zealex confirm that it was him who threw the bottle earlier, Froakie couldn't help but seem quite happy.

Must know that ever since it was born, this little Froakie had rarely ever received much kindness.

It was born in a harsh environment filled with hostile pokemon constantly fighting each other to show their dominance. As such this little Froakie had to work hard and use every means available to it in order to survive.

At that moment the Froakie's feelings were suddenly transmitted to Zealex once again.

Zealex: "Er..uh.. You're welcome I guess."

"Fro..Froakie." Sounded the little Froakie as it tilted it's head seemingly curious about something.

Zealex: "You're curious as to why I suddenly helped you out of nowhere?"

"Fro..Fro!" Nodded the little Froakie.

Zealex: "To be honest... Your situation earlier just reminded me of something similar... that's pretty much it."

"Fro..." Froakie didn't know why... but something inside him was telling him that this human boy was truly being honest with him.

"Fro..."

Suddenly...

"Kaw!"

The group of Spearows from earlier reappeared and surrounded both Zealex and Froakie instantly.

Zealex (cold sweat): "Well uh... Looks like these guys found you."

"Froa.. Froakie!" Shouted Froakie as it was waving it's hands towards Zealex indicating that he should get out of here as fast as he can.

Sensing Froakie's feelings again Zealex replied: "Uh... I think it's a little late for that."

"Kaaw!"

It was then that a Spearow twice the size of the others appeared blocking the way towards the Forest entrance.

This was the Spearow leader!

"So there was a Spearow this big in Limlyte Forest." Muttered Zealex as he took a step back.

"Froakie!" Sounded Froakie as it jumped to Zealex's front. It wanted to protect the human that showed it kindness.

Seeing the current situation, Zealex did his best to stay calm as he took out several red pellets from his pocket.

These red pellets were something made by Zealex's father Derrick.

"Never thought I'd actually have to use these things." Thought Zealex as he held the red pellets in his hands.

These small red pellets are simply called 'Red Smoke Pellets'. Once thrown they turn into thick red smoke capable of blocking the vision of most pokemon for a very short time.

Derrick made these pellets for Zealex just in case he encounters some hostile pokemon.

"Kaw!"

Seeing that the Spearows were about to start attacking, Zealex did not hesitate to immediately throw the red pellets in his hand towards them.

Pop!..Pop!..Pop!..

The pellets instantly turned into thick red smoke covering most of the area.

"Kaw?!"

The group of Spearows were immediately blinded by the thick red smoke.

"Fro?!" Froakie also seemed to be having a hard time seeing due to the red smoke.

"Now's our chance!" Muttered Zealex as he grabbed Froakie and ran back into the forest once more.

Because the group of Spearows were blocking the way out, Zealex thought that going back into the forest to hide for awhile was a better option instead.

...

After entering a small cave, Zealex placed Froakie down and asked: "You good?"

"Fro..Froakie!" Froakie was waving it's arms around wondering where they were.

Zealex: "We're in a cave me and my siblings found years ago. It's well hidden within large trees so those Spearows shouldn't be able to find us for awhile. We think it might've been the home of some pokemon at some point."

"Fro?" Hearing Zealex's words, the Froakie couldn't help but start to look around the small cave.

"We'll stay here until those group of Spearows calm down." Said Zealex as he began to look for something in his pockets.

After a few moments he couldn't help but sigh as he thought: "Of course I picked today of all days to forget my phone."

After a moment Zealex turned towards Froakie and asked: "Hey um... Do you know why those Spearows were attacking you in the first place?"

"Fro...Froakie." Sounded the Froakie as it looked embarrassed scratching it's head.

Seeing this Zealex couldn't help but say: "Oh... You did something huh?"

"Fro..." Nodded the Froakie as it took something out of it's frubbles.

Seeing the item Froakie took out, Zealex muttered: "This is... part of a berry?"

He then realized something and said: "Could it be... you ate the Spearows berries?"

"Fro..." Froakie had it's head down.

Zealex: "Is that really all you did?"

"Fro..Fro!" The Froakie quickly nodded.

Seeing this Zealex couldn't help but frown as he thought: "That's weird... to think the Spearows would turn so aggressive just because of this... come to think of it the appearance of that large Spearow earlier was also unexpected... I've been in this forest over a hundred times already and this is the first time I've seen it."

He then sighed and said: "If those group of Spearows find us without having calmed down yet... then we might be in quite a bit of trouble."

whoosh...

Suddenly... just like before the holographic screen appeared in front of him once more.

"This thing again..." Thought the boy.

Zealex: "Wait maybe this can help."

A few minutes later after skimming through some of the items shown in the holographic screen, Zealex thought: "I'm no expert in Pokemon but maybe that could actually work?"

He then turned to the little Froakie and said: "Hey Froakie could you come over here for a moment?"

"Fro?... Froakie!" Sounded Froakie as it jumped over to Zealex's side.

But before Zealex could speak, a sound was suddenly heard from the cave's entrance.

"Kaw!"

It was then that both Zealex and the Froakie's expressions changed as they saw the a Spearow flapping it's wings near the cave's entrance staring at them.

Zealex: "What rotten luck!"

Froakie: "Froakie!"

As the two expected the other Spearows also appeared outside the cave's entrance upon hearing one of their owns cry.

"Kaw!"

Seeing this Zealex did not even hesitate to press something on the holographic screen as he muttered: "Come on please work like last time... It says half price for first purchase right?"

On the screen were a list of TMs at the very top of this list were the words ' Half Price on first TM Purchase. '

As for what Zealex had clicked, it was the icon of a TM that seemed to require 500 Pokepoints to purchase.

Right now the screen stated that Zealex had 250 Pokepoints which meant that he had just enough to buy the TM he had clicked on.

whoosh...

And just like before an item mysteriously appeared in Zealex's hand... It was a disc like item.

"Great!... Hope this works... Froakie catch!" Shouted Zealex as he threw the disc like item towards Froakie who was preparing to defend Zealex from the group of Spearows.

"Fro?" Catching the disc like item in his hands, Froakie was confused on what to do with this item Zealex suddenly threw to him.

Shatter!

It was then that the disc like item in Froakie's hands shattered and turned into small blue lights that entered Froakie's body.

"So that's how TM's are used in this reality?" Muttered Zealex upon seeing the scene.

"Fro?!" Unfortunately before the little Froakie could have the chance to find out what it had gained, he suddenly noticed the Spearow leader coming towards them.

"Kaaw!"

Zealex: "It's that large Spearow again!... And here I am with no more Red Smoke Pellets."

"Kaw!"

Without warning the group of Spearows rushed towards Zealex and Froakie with the intent to attack just like before.

"Crap!... Froakie try using the new move you just learned!" Said Zealex as he turned to Froakie.

"Froakie?!" Hearing Zealex's words, Froakie immediately realized that he had indeed learned a new move.

"Froa!" Raising his arms forward, a blue energy ball quickly formed in front of Froakie which then unleashed several ice blue energy beams towards the group of oncoming Spearows.

"Kaw?!"

Seeing this the group of Spearows began to panic and tried to dodge... But it was too late!

whoosh... whoosh... whoosh...

Thunk!...Thunk!...Thunk!...Thunk!...

Slightly over half of the group of Spearows were instantly frozen in blocks of ice which then all fell to the ground.

The TM Zealex had given Froakie earlier was the TM for the move 'Ice Beam' which was super effective against Spearows.

Zealex remembered from his previous life that this was a move Froakie could learn which is why it was the TM he bought from the holographic screen.

Seeing the scene in front of him, Zealex couldn't help but be a little dumbfounded as he thought: "Although I knew it would work I didn't think it would work this well."

whoosh...

As if wanting to answer his thoughts the holographic screen suddenly showed information regarding the Froakie that was with him.

Name: Froakie(Shiny)

Type: Water

Species: Bubble Frog Pokemon.

Gender: Male

Abilities: Torrent Protean

Info: It secretes flexible bubbles from its chest and back. The bubbles reduce the damage it would otherwise take when attacked.

Current known Moves: Quick Attack, Lick, Pound, Bubble, Ice Beam.

Zealex: "What the... This thing can be used as a Pokedex too?!... Wait could it be that the reason Ice Beam was so strong was because Protean's effect kicked in and it became 'STAB'?"

"Kaw!" "Kaw!" "Kaw!"

By this point most of the remaining Spearows began to be afraid of the little Froakie and as such started slowly retreating.

"Froa...Froa.." Seeing that some of them began to leave, Froakie couldn't help but clap it's hands in a bit of relief and joy.

"Kaaw!"

The only one that remained was the Spearow leader that was currently staring at Froakie with sharp eyes as if it was itching for a battle.

whoosh...

It was then that the holographic screen began to reveal information about the Spearow Leader.

Name: Spearow

Type: Normal, Flying

Species: Tiny Bird Pokemon

Gender: Male

Abilities: Sniper

Info: Its reckless nature leads it to stand up to others even large Pokémon if it has to protect its territory.

Current known Moves: Leer, Peck, Fury Attack, Wing Attack, Astonish.

Seeing this Zealex couldn't help but mutter: "It knows Wing Attack and it's ability is Sniper huh... That might be a problem."

"Froakie..." Even Froakie was staring at the Spearow Leader with determination in it's eyes. It had no plans of backing down either.

The Spearow Leader then began by using the move 'Leer' which made it show an intimidating look.

"Froa..." This resulted in the little Froakie taking a step back due to the intimidating look.

Seeing this Zealex couldn't help but shout: "No don't back off pull yourself together!"

"Froa!" Hearing Zealex's voice, determination instantly returned to the little Froakie's eyes. Sadly it's defense was still slightly lowered by the Spearow's Leer.

"Froakie!" Shouted Froakie as it began to use it's 'Bubble' move.

The little Froakie immediately released dozens of clear bubbles towards the Spearow Leader completely surrounding it.

"Kaaw!"

Sadly the Spearow Leader was able to easily dodge most of the clear bubbles thanks to it's above average flight speed.

Seeing how swiftly the Spearow Leader was dodging the bubbles, Zealex couldn't help but think: "This Spearow definitely has some experience... Could it be... it has a Trainer?"

"Kaaw!"

When the Spearow Leader got close enough, it used it's 'Peck' move and struck Froakie's body with it's strong beak.

"Froa!!!" Froakie was instantly sent flying by the power of this attack.

"Froakie!... Can I still help?" Muttered Zealex as he began checking the holographic screen once more.

Sadly the holographic screen revealed that Zealex's Pokepoints were now zero which meant he couldn't purchase anything from it right now.

"Froa...kie..." As the little Froakie began to get up, Zealex once again began sensing it's feelings.

It's determination to keep on fighting... It's fear of once again losing... and even it's pride as a Pokemon.

Sensing all of these feelings Zealex couldn't help but bite his lower lip.

As Froakie was about to charge at the Spearow Leader, Zealex suddenly shouted: "No don't charge in wait for it to charge at you instead!"

"Froa?" Hearing Zealex's words, Froakie was a bit startled but decided to follow it anyway.

"Kaaw!" As the Spearow Leader began charging at Froakie once more, Zealex waited until the Spearow Leader was close enough then shouted: "Now Froakie use Quick Attack and dodge to one of it's sides."

"Froakie!" Replied Froakie as it became outlined in blue. It then rushed to the left at great speed leaving behind a white streak and successfully dodging the Spearow Leader's second Peck attack.

"Kaaw?" Before the Spearow Leader could recover from it's surprise that Froakie was able to dodge it's attack, Froakie suddenly reappeared on it's right and...

Bam!

"Kaaw!" Successfully landed a blow to it's right wing and sent it flying by about half a meter.

Seeing this Zealex excitedly shouted: "Nice one!.. Don't let up! Follow it up by using 'Lick' and wrap your tongue around one of it's wings!"

"Froa!" Hearing Zealex's words, Froakie immediately extended it's long tongue and wrapped it around the end of the Spearow Leader's right wing.

This was Zealex's plan by using Lick to wrap around one of the Spearow Leader's wing, it wouldn't be able to move as swiftly as before.

bzzt..bzzt..

"Kaaw!" It was then that small yellow sparks appeared on the Spearow Leader's body. This was Lick's paralyzing effect!

Zealex: "Nice a paralysis effect!.. Best to end this now... Froakie use Ice Beam!"

"Froakie!" Froakie who still had it's tongue wrapped around one of the Spearow Leader's wings, then began forming a blue energy ball in front of it's hands.

"Kaaw!!!" Seeing what Froakie was about to do the Spearow Leader endured the paralysis effect and unleashed a startling cry... it had used the move 'Astonish'.

"Froa?!" At that moment red energy waves were released from the Spearow Leader's mouth which made Froakie flinch and cover his ears. This naturally resulted in Froakie's Ice Beam being interrupted.

"Kaaw!" Thanks to it's Astonish move, the hold of Froakie's tongue on it's right wing had also been weakened enough to easily free it's wing from it.

Zealex: "That Astonish was used at a perfect moment... maybe it really was trained?"

"Kaaw!" Right after getting free from Froakie's tongue, the Spearow Leader circled around in the air then went straight for Froakie once again.

Bang!

"Froakie!!!" Froakie took critical damage from the Spearow Leader's glowing white wing!

The Spearow Leader had used the move 'Wing Attack'!

Bam!

After hitting the cave's wall, Froakie was now down on the ground barely conscious.

Thanks to the Spearow Leader's ability 'Sniper' it's critical Wing Attack had been able to deal triple it's base damage.

"Froakie!" Shouted Zealex as he rushed to Froakie's side.

"Darn... If only I could still buy a potion or something from that weird screen." Thought the boy as he held Froakie in his arms.

"Kaaw!" Sounded the Spearow Leader as it stared at Zealex menacingly.

"Froa...kie..." Sounded the little Froakie as it struggled to raise it's hand seemingly trying to do something.

At that moment Zealex shuddered once more as now he not only sensed Froakie's feelings, but even a bit of it's thoughts.

"There's something... in your Frubbles?" Muttered Zealex as he took something out of Froakie's frubbles.

Zealex couldn't help but be surprised when he saw what it was, it was the berry part Froakie had shown him earlier.

"This should be part of an Aguav Berry that can heal pokemon... hopefully he doesn't dislike the bitter flavor." Thought Zealex as he fed the berry part to the near unconscious Froakie.

"Kaaw!" Seeing it's berry being fed to another pokemon, somewhat angered the Spearow Leader which resulted in him unleashing his 'Fury Attack' move towards the boy.

Zealex: "Crap!"

"Froakie!" Thankfully Froakie recovered in time successfully pushing Zealex away from the repeated beak thrusts.

"Froa..." Although Froakie could now get up he was clearly still not fully recovered and as such he could not help but touch his wounds due to pain.

Zealex: "I think it's about time we got out of here."

"Froa..." Replied Froakie shaking it's head.

Zealex: "You still wanna fight?"

"Froakie!" The moment Froakie's hand touched Zealex, the little Pokemon's thoughts and feelings once again transmitted to him.

"Together... we can win!... Help me fight... please!"

Zealex: "..."

"Alright... one more try." Said Zealex as he stared at the Spearow Leader with determined eyes.

"Froakie!" Shouted Froakie as he stood in front of Zealex with fire in his eyes ready for one more clash.

"Kaaw!" Sounded the Spearow Leader as it once again charged at Froakie using it's Wing Attack move.

When the Spearow Leader got close enough, Zealex quickly shouted: "Now use Quick Attack and dash under it."

"Froa!" Sounded Froakie as it passed underneath the Spearow Leader at great speed leaving behind a white streak.

"Kaaw?" Seeing this the Spearow Leader couldn't help but be confused. 'Why did the enemy suddenly pass him?' It thought.

At that moment Zealex shouted: "Now jump and use Pound!"

"Froa!" As if having completely understood Zealex's intention, Froakie used his strong legs coupled with it's speed boost to jump high behind the Spearow Leader.

"Kaaw?!" By the time the Spearow Leader noticed Froakie was already high above him.

"Kaaw!" The Spearow Leader tried it's best to dodge but unfortunately for him...

bzzt..bzzt..

The paralyzing effect from earlier finally kicked in and prevented him from dodging.

Bang!

Froakie's two glowing white hands successfully struck the Spearow Leader and...

Bam!

Sent it crashing to the ground.

Zealex then shouted: "Now finish it... Froakie use Ice Beam!"

"Froa!" As if having already read Zealex's thoughts, Froakie had actually already formed the blue energy ball before he had even heard the command.

"Kaaw!!!" When the Spearow Leader saw several thin ice blue colored energy beams descending from above, it's expression immediately changed to panic.

"Kaaw!!" It tried to use Astonish but it was too late... all it could do was try to dodge the thin ice beams as fast as it could.

"Kaaw!" Sadly due to Froakie's inexperience in using this new move, the Spearow Leader was able to dodge most of the thin beams... except for one which successfully struck it's left wing freezing a large part of it.

"Kaaw!"

Seeing the Spearow Leader desperately flying away with part of it's wing frozen, Zealex knew the battle was over.

Zealex: "It flew away."

"Froa...kie..." Froakie slumped to the ground clearly hurt and exhausted... it needed a rest.

Zealex then approached Froakie and said: "You did great just now... I gotta say the trainer who gets you as their pokemon in the future might be quite lucky."

"Froa..." Hearing Zealex's words the exhausted and injured little Froakie couldn't help but show a smile.

...

After Froakie recovered a bit of his strength, he immediately asked Zealex to follow him to a small pond within the forest.

"Is this your home?" Asked Zealex upon seeing the small pond.

"Froakie~~" Sounded Froakie as it jumped into the pond for a brief moment then immediately jumped out carrying a small item in it's hands.

"Fro...Fro..."

"What is it?" Asked Zealex as he bent down and saw Froakie offering the item to him.

As Zealex saw the item suddenly grow in size within his hand, he couldn't help but be a bit surprised as he realized: "This is... a Premier Ball?"

After a moment Zealex turned to Froakie and asked: "You... do you want me to be your trainer?"

"Froa!" Nodded the little Froakie.

During this time not only did Zealex show him kindness and saved him, he even made him stronger. Not to mention he also felt some sort of weird connection with Zealex as well. As such Froakie made his decision and chose Zealex to be his trainer.

Seeing Froakie nod, Zealex couldn't help but show an embarrassed smile as he started scratching his head and said: "Sorry to break it to you but I'm not much of a trainer I..."

"Froa!" But before Zealex could finish his words, Froakie had already tapped on the white premier ball's button which resulted in Froakie being instantly sucked into it

Zealex: "..."

After being speechless for a few minutes, Zealex finally stood up with the premier ball in his hands and said with a smile: "Well... looks like I made a new friend... I'm sure Dad and Becky will be surprised once they find out."

...

"Kaaw..." Somewhere outside Limlyte forest, the Spearow Leader could be seen approaching a dark cloaked figure covered in shadows.

Dark Cloaked figure: "I'm guessing something went wrong?"

"Kaaw!"

Dark Cloaked figure: "Nevermind... our orders are to move on from Limlyte Forest... for now."
