It's been a few days since the Shiny Froakie became Zealex's pokemon... and in these few days the boy had also learned quite a bit about the holographic screen.
Simply put the holographic screen seems to respond to his will and thoughts... basically if he wants it to appear it will appear... if he wants it to disappear it will disappear.
Additionally Zealex realized that no one else seems to be able to see the holographic screen besides himself not even pokemon.
As for the Pokepoints of the holographic screen, Zealex had also found the method to replenish it.
During these past few days Zealex had been constantly taking his little Froakie to Limlyte Forest to play and exercise.
Each time Froakie defeats a wild pokemon in a battle the holographic screen seems to gain 5 to 20 Pokepoints depending on the strength of the pokemon Froakie defeats.
Zealex had been mainly using these Pokepoints to buy potions as well as EV boosting vitamins like HP Up, Protein, Zinc, Calcium, Carbos and Iron for his Froakie to help it grow faster.
Must know that in this reality EV boosting vitamins like these for pokemon are considered quite expensive even for a Gym Leader's family like Zealex's.
Which is why Zealex decided to focus on buying these first especially since they were quite cheap in terms of Pokepoints.
...
"Yaaawn~~" At this moment Zealex could be seen yawning as he got up from his bed.
He then took out a white premier ball placed in a drawer beside his bed, opened it and said: "Alright Froakie it's morning time to get up."
"Fro..Fro~~" Muttered the shiny Froakie as it came out of the premier ball rubbing it's eyes.
After handing some pokeblocks to his Froakie, Zealex decided to summon his holographic screen and check on his current Pokepoints.
[Your Pokepoints = 156]
Zealex: "It's not much... however it should be enough to buy something useful in case something happens."
Bam!
Without warning Zealex's little sister Rebecca suddenly entered the room then began hugging Froakie excitedly while saying: "Froakie good moooorning~~~"
Ever since Zealex first brought home the Shiny Froakie, Rebecca immediately grew to like it. She was very happy to make a new pokemon friend.
As for Froakie he was first overjoyed to make a new human friend, however by this point he just couldn't help but be a bit exhausted by how hyperactive Becky can be.
"Fro~~" Seeing how Becky was already hugging him despite only having woken up, the little Froakie couldn't help but sigh.
"Chuki...priii!" Adorably sounded Togepi as it also just entered Zealex's room.
"Good morning Togepi." Said Zealex with a smile as he handed Togepi a sweet pokeblock.
...
On this day Cecilia was too busy with her job as a Gym Leader and had to leave early. As such around the dinner table it was only Zealex, his youngest sister Rebecca, their father Derrick, as well as Togepi and Froakie.
After having breakfast Derrick took a quick glance at the little Froakie resting by the side of the dinner table and asked: "Zealex since you have a pokemon now, I'm guessing going to a normal school is no longer one of your choices?"
Hearing his father's question, Zealex couldn't help but start scratching his head and replied in a bit of an embarrassed tone: "Yeah... but I still haven't decided whether to fully become a Pokemon trainer or not. I mean... I just don't think I have it in me to properly train pokemon."
Hearing his son's words, Derrick simply smiled and patted his son's shoulder to reassure him.
Normally children that are Zealex's age would be quite excited at the thought of becoming pokemon trainers, and yet Derrick's third child seemed quite the opposite.
Derrick: "No need to worry too much son take it slow. You're still young after all. What's more there's still some time before you need to decide. And if you really can't decide, then that's fine too. We're still here for you. Just live your life as happily as you can and eventually you'll know what you want to do."
Zealex's eyes grew wide with surprise as he couldn't help but mutter his father's words: "...Just live your life as happily as you can and eventually you'll know what you want to do."
Zealex then raised his head with a smile and replied: "I see I think I understand... thanks Dad."
"Daddy why don't you give me advice like that too?" Said Rebecca with a pout on her face.
At his daughter's words Derrick simply smiled while patting her head. He then remembered something and said: "By the way son... your brother and sister called me last night. They wanted to apologize to you saying they won't be able to make it to your 13th birthday."
"Whaaaat?!... Big bro and Big sis won't be coming home?" Said Becky with a sad expression.
As for Zealex he simply nodded and said: "I'm guessing they must be quite busy."
Derrick: "Indeed... your sister Selene has been chosen to participate in a Pokemon Contest at Milotic City for New Pokemon Coordinators."
"Oh yeah she did mention something about becoming interested in Pokemon Contests the last time we talked." Thought Zealex.
Derrick: "As for your brother Adam, he's taking part in a Pokemon Battle Tournament called the Mezaluck Island Cup held near the borders of another region."
Zealex nodded: "I see..."
Derrick: "They said they'll make it up to you once they get back."
Rebecca: "Muuuuu... I was really looking forward to seeing big bro and big sis."
...
After talking with his family a bit more, Zealex decided to take a walk through town with his Froakie.
Zealex: "It's nice to have a quiet walk like this from time to time right Froakie?"
"Fro... Fro!" Replied Froakie who was on Zealex's shoulder. It's eyes were clearly filled with interest as he constantly stared at every building they passed by.
The town Zealex and his family are living in is called Limlyte Town which is located at the northern part of the Xillion Region.
It is known as one of the Xillion Region's more larger towns with one of the region's ten Pokemon Gyms located here.
As such it is often visited by many pokemon trainers especially during the time of the Gym Challenges.
"Froakie?!" Suddenly the little Froakie couldn't help but be attracted to a building with a lot flashing lights.
Sensing Froakie's curiosity Zealex explained: "That's an arcade it's where people go to play many electronic or coin operated games."
"Froa..Froakie!" Sounded Froakie with a bit of eagerness in it's eyes.
Zealex: "You wanna go try?... Well I guess it should be fine. I often see people bring their pokemon there to play anyway."
...
Ten minutes later Zealex could be seen standing up from a racing arcade game while muttering: "Man that highscore is insane how does anybody beat that."
"Froa... Froakie!" As for Froakie he seemed to have gotten a bit addicted to a little game called whack a Diglett.
Zealex (cold sweat): "How is he so good at that already?... Could it be he actually has this kind of experience fighting Digletts?"
Suddenly a voice interrupted Zealex's thoughts.
???: "Hey is that Zealex?"
When Zealex turned around to see who it was he immediately recognized the person.
It was a young boy with blonde hair wearing a black jacket approaching him with a wide smile.
This boy's name is Ron Celsius one of Zealex's long time classmates and old friend.
Zealex: "Hey Ron.. been awhile."
Ron: "Yeah I'm kinda surprised. You don't usually come to the arcade."
Zealex: "A change of pace for today I guess."
Before Ron could ask Zealex something else...
bam..bam..bam..
He couldn't help but turn to the energetic little Froakie skillfully playing whack a Diglett.
Ron: "Whoa that Froakie's good! Wonder who it's trainer is?"
Zealex: "Uh... well... it's mine."
Hearing this Ron's eyes grew wide with surprise as he turned to Zealex and said: "No way..."
Zealex: "Yeah... I didn't expect it either."
Ron: "Man and I always thought you'd continue your studies as a normal student... to think you'd become a Pokemon trainer."
Zealex: "Well my Pokemon's just Froakie for now... and I haven't even registered yet so I still have some options... Anyway what about you? I remember you saying you wanted to be a trainer yourself."
Scratching his head a bit embarrassed, Ron replied: "Well... my parents agreed to support my dream... under the condition that I finish two to three years of Pokemon School first."
Zealex: "So you're going to pokemon school?"
Ron: "Yeah the one located at Macross City. Anyway my parents did agree that I can have a starter Pokemon now though. Which is why I'm waiting for Professor Luxem to visit the town... I hear he's got some good starter Pokemon to give away this year."
Professor Luxem is one of the more known pokemon professors of the Xillion Region and is the pokemon professor that regularly visits Limlyte Town.
Similar to the pokemon professors of the original Pokemon world, the professors of this reality also bestow starter Pokemon to the young teens aspiring to be pokemon trainers nearly every year.
"Professor Luxem huh... I think Mom introduced him to me a few years back." Thought Zealex upon remembering a middle aged man wearing a white suit and cowboy hat.
As Zealex and Ron continued their talk, Froakie suddenly approached the two with something in it's hands.
"Froakie!" Sounded the little Froakie as it proudly and happily raised the Diglett keychain in it's hands that it had won playing whack a Diglett.
"You actually got the prize?... Well done Froakie." Said Zealex with a smile as he patted Froakie's head.
Ron then approached Froakie and introduced himself: "Hey there Froakie I'm Ron, Zealex's classmate."
"Froakie." Replied Froakie raising it's hands greeting Ron.
...
As Zealex and Ron continued their talk while walking out of the arcade, Ron suddenly remembered something and said: "Oh right that was today... Hey Zealex wanna go to Circule Park?"
"What's happening at Circule Park?" Asked Zealex with Froakie on his shoulder.
Ron: "I got word that some of our old Schoolmates who are now registered trainers are having pokemon battles there today."
"Really?" Muttered Zealex as his eyes showed slight interest.
Zealex: "What do you think Froakie, should we go watch some pokemon battles?"
"Froakie!" Replied Froakie raising his hands in agreement.
...
Arriving at Circule Park, Zealex and Ron couldn't help but take notice of the large group of people gathered at the center of the park.
Zealex: "I can recognize some of our old Schoolmates there. Guess the battles already began."
Ron: "Aww... I was hoping we could get here before it started."
As Zealex and Ron approached the group of people, they began to hear the people's whispers.
"Woah I can't believe he still won that battle."
"Yeah that's his third straight win today."
"Man and I hear it's only been a month since he became a trainer... can't believe he's already trained his pokemon this well."
Zealex: "Guess someone's on a winning streak?"
Ron: "Let's go see who it is."
When Zealex and Ron got close enough they immediately saw two pokemon at the center of the field.
One was unconscious and the other seemed to still be in perfect condition.
whoosh...
Before Zealex could even comment at the sight, the holographic screen suddenly appeared showing him information about the two pokemon.
Name: Litleo
Type: Fire, Normal
Species: Lion Cub Pokemon.
Gender: Female
Abilities: Rivalry
Info: This hot-blooded Pokémon is filled with curiosity. When it gets angry or starts fighting, its short mane gets hot.
Current State: Unconscious
Name: Lotad
Type: Water, Grass
Species: Water Weed Pokemon
Gender: Male
Abilities: Own Tempo
Info: It looks like an aquatic plant and serves as a ferry to Pokémon that can't swim.
Current State: Full of confidence
"So a Lotad beat a Litleo huh." Thought Zealex upon seeing what was on the holographic screen.
"Litleo!" Shouted a young boy with glasses as he held the unconscious Litleo in his arms.
"Well looks like that's my third win today. Anybody else want to battle me and my Lotad?" Asked a teenage boy with spiky lime colored hair with a bit of a confident smirk while looking around the crowd.
"Lotad..." Sounded Lotad as it raised it's head in confidence.
Seeing this Zealex couldn't help but mutter: "That lime haired boy... I recognize him."
Ron: "Yeah that's William Teals the rich kid from our school that's always so sure of himself... I heard he became a trainer a month ago. So it turns out his pokemon is Lotad."
"Froa..." As for Froakie he was simply looking at the scene curiously while on Zealex's shoulder.
After a few moments the boy named William suddenly pointed at Zealex and said: "You the boy with the Froakie... how about becoming my final battle of the day. What do you say?"
Startled by this Zealex immediately said: "Huh? Me?... Sorry but I just came to watch."
"Hah I understand you must've seen how me and my Lotad dominated the battle previously right." Said William as he arrogantly turned around.
"Tad..Lotad..." Said Lotad as he also turned around and started following his trainer
Seeing this Ron couldn't help but say: "Well he hasn't changed... despite becoming a trainer."
"Fro...Froakie!" Froakie on the other hand who was irritated by William's words, suddenly jumped down from Zealex's shoulder and onto the center of the field. Clearly he had a different opinion.
Zealex: "Froakie you..."
Ron: "Hey Zealex what's your Froakie doing?"
"Froakie!" Froakie clearly wanted to convey something as it kept raising it's hands and making a fuss.
As for Zealex who could sense Froakie's feelings, he simply sighed, turned towards William and said: "Hey William... we accept your challenge."
Hearing Zealex's reply many of the people watching couldn't help but be surprised.
For those who recognized Zealex, they simply knew him as the quiet boy who didn't attract much attention. And yet now he was actually willing to accept a challenge from a boy like William Teals.
"No way isn't that kid Zealex... the one who often just stays quiet in class?"
"He actually accepted a challenge from William?"
"Come to think of it... he has a pokemon. Could it be he's also a trainer now?"
In fact these teenagers had no idea that Zealex was actually the son of a Gym Leader nor that his siblings were actually already trainers.
Simply put since Zealex had witnessed how much unnecessary attention his siblings got when they revealed they were the kids of a Gym Leader, Zealex didn't really feel like going through that himself.
As such whenever he's asked about his family, he would simply reply that his father was a chef and reveal nothing more.
It was due to this that Zealex's former Schoolmates were surprised that he'd agree to battle William who was already a registered trainer.
"H-Hey Zealex you sure about this?" Asked Ron as he approached Zealex.
To Ron's question Zealex simply nodded.
"Excellent!" Shouted William as he turned back towards Zealex with a smile.
"Then how about we take a minute or two to get our pokemon ready." Said William as he took Lotad in his arms.
Hearing William's words Zealex simply sighed then knelt down and said to Froakie who had returned to his side: "You really wanna do this?"
"Froakie!" Replied Froakie with eagerness in it's eyes.
Sensing Froakie's feelings Zealex simply thought: "Since he wants to try battling that Lotad we might as well do our best."
He then turned to the holographic screen and immediately bought something which resulted in his Pokepoints being instantly reduced to merely 6 points.
"Here Froakie this'll be your hold item for the battle." Said Zealex as he handed Froakie a small item.
"Froa?" The little Froakie couldn't help but stare at the small item for a bit.
...
After a few minutes both trainers could now be seen standing at the opposite sides of the field with their pokemon at the center of the field staring intently at each other ready for battle.
"Guess this'll be our first trainer battle." Thought Zealex as he then turned to Froakie and asked: "Ready Froakie?"
"Froakie!"
William: "Let's show them our magnificent skills Lotad!"
"Tad...Lotad!"
Watching this scene Ron couldn't help but think: "I can't believe Zealex who always liked being inconspicuous is now actually participating in a Pokemon battle."
The referee at the center of the field then took a step back, waving his arm shouted: "Battle begin!"
William: "Let's start things off swiftly... Lotad use Bullet Seed!"
"Lotad!" At that moment Lotad began shooting out over a dozen glowing yellow seeds from it's mouth at high velocity.
Seeing the glowing yellow seeds headed towards Froakie at high speed, Zealex immediately knew that Froakie wouldn't be able dodge them one by one. As such a good option was to just avoid them altogether.
Zealex: "Froakie jump high to dodge the seeds!"
"Froakie!" Responded Froakie as he jumped as high as he could successfully avoiding the over a dozen bullet seeds.
William: "Haha right where we want you... Lotad use Razor Leaf!"
"Lotad!" Lotad then jumped high and swung it's head releasing four razor sharp leaves from the lily pad on it's head straight towards Froakie who was still in the air.
"It's over..." Thought many of the people watching. After all in their view the grass type move Razor Leaf was super effective against a water type like Froakie. And since Froakie couldn't dodge while he was in the air, it was bound to be a direct hit that would deal a lot of damage.
Seeing the razor sharp leaves headed for Froakie, Zealex couldn't help but remember a move his sister Selene and her pokemon used in a similar situation.
Zealex: "Froakie use full power Water Gun to keep those leaves away!"
"Froa!" It was then that Froakie unleashed a strong spiral of water towards the four razor sharp leaves.
pshhhh!!...
This was a move Froakie managed to learn due to constantly battling wild pokemon in Limlyte Forest... Water Gun!
Thanks to this move the trajectory of the four razor sharp leaves changed slightly resulting in Froakie successfully dodging them by a mere few inches.
"Froakie..." Upon landing on the ground, Froakie couldn't help but sigh in relief that he still managed to dodge the Razor Leaf attack.
Zealex also couldn't help but sigh as he thought: "Although that didn't work out the way I thought it would, I guess it's still fine."
William: "To change the trajectory of Razor Leaf using Water Gun... not bad."
Zealex: "Now it's our turn... Froakie use Quick Attack!"
"Froa!" Froakie was then outlined in blue as it charged at Lotad at great speed leaving behind a white streak.
Seeing this William immediately shouted: "Quickly Lotad use Mist!"
"Tad!" Sounded Lotad as it unleashed a thick white mist covering the battle area.
"Froa?!" Startled by this Froakie had no choice but to cease it's Quick Attack for it's target had suddenly disappeared into the mist.
Zealex: "Mist huh..."
William: "Now let's see how you fight an opponent you can barely see... Lotad use consecutive Bullet Seed!"
whoosh..whoosh..whoosh..whoosh..whoosh..
It was then that dozens of glowing yellow seeds were shot out from all sides of the mist heading straight towards Froakie at great speed.
Seeing that Froakie was surrounded Bullet Seeds from all sides, Zealex immediately shouted: "Froakie use Bubble to intercept the bullet seeds now!"
"Froa!" Hearing Zealex's command Froakie immediately jetted out countless clear blue bubbles in order to intercept the oncoming glowing yellow seeds.
pop..pop..pop..pop..puchi..pop..puchi..pop..
Although Froakie's bubbles had managed to intercept most of the bullet seeds, several still broke through them successfully landing small wounds on Froakie's body.
"Froa..." Sounded Froakie as he was pushed back by the bullet seeds.
Zealex: "Froakie calm down... You need to try to pinpoint the timing and direction from which the bullet seeds are coming from. That's when you'll know where Lotad is."
William: "Lotad once more.. consecutive Bullet Seed!"
"Fro..." Seeing the glowing yellow seeds starting to come from all directions once more, Froakie this time fully focused his attention on where in the mist the Bullet Seeds came.
Zealex: "Intercept them once again with Bubble!"
pop..pop..pop..pop..puchi..pop..puchi..pop..
"Froakie!" As Froakie once again tried his best to block the bullet seeds using his Bubble move, he suddenly noticed a faint silhouette within the mist that was similar in shape to Lotad.
Sensing Froakie's feelings and thoughts, Zealex knew this was the moment and shouted: "Now's the time... use Quick Attack!"
"Froa!" Now once again outlined in blue Froakie charged at the Lotad silhouette at extreme speed once more leaving behind a white streak.
BANG!
"Lotaaad!!!" Froakie's Quick Attack had successfully landed a strong solid hit on Lotad.
"Lotad!" Shouted William in a worried tone as he thought: "What a fast Quick Attack they actually managed to catch Lotad."
"Lotad!" Regaining it's balance Lotad was now out of the mist and visible at the center of the field. Clearly it took some significant damage from Froakie's Quick Attack.
By this point many of the people watching had their jaws slightly drop.
Since this was a battle between teenage novice trainers, they expected a simple exchange using moves like 'Tackle', 'Pound', 'Scratch', 'Water Gun', etc...
And yet the battle in front of them was clearly not like that.
A Lotad smart enough to hide inside mist and attack an enemy from all sides.
A Froakie that could react fast enough to intercept both Razor Leaf and Bullet Seed. To top it off it's Quick Attack was so fast that their eyes could barely keep up with it.
"I must admit your Froakie's Quick Attack was indeed quite fast." Said William with a smile. He was clearly enjoying this battle unlike the battles he had earlier.
"Your Lotad's not bad either. I didn't think it could use Mist to attack like that." Said Zealex nodding his head.
William: "Haha... Well now don't think the battle's over with just this. Lotad jump back into the mist and let's try this again!"
"Lo...Lotad?!" Just as Lotad was about to jump back into the mist, it suddenly realized that there was something somewhat sticky on it's lower body making it hard for Lotad to move properly.
William: "That's..."
Zealex: "It's Froakie's frubbles. He made sure to attach some to Lotad when his Quick Attack landed. With this Lotad won't be dodging our next attack."
William: "Oh no..."
Zealex then raised his hand forward and shouted: "It's Time to use our trump card Froakie... use Aerial Ace!"
"Froakie!" Sounded Froakie as he jumps up with a high burst then immediately dives down towards Lotad with his kick glowing blue.
"If that's the case then we'll meet you head on... Lotad full power Razor Leaf now!" Shouted William excitedly.
"Lotad!" Hearing it's trainer's command, Lotad immediately unleashed five razor sharp leaves from it's lily pad towards the fast descending Froakie.
Unexpectedly the move that landed first... was Lotad's Razor Leaf!
puchi...puchi...puchi...puchi...
"Froa..." Enduring the pain and wounds dealt to him by Razor Leaf, Froakie continued his descending kick and... BANG!
Successfully landed another solid blow onto Lotad.
"It withstood a Super Effective move?" Thought William in shock.
What William didn't know was that the moment Froakie started using the move 'Aerial Ace', his ability 'Protean' kicked in and changed his typing from Water to Flying. It was thanks to this that Froakie was able to withstand Lotad's Razor Leaf.
Naturally Zealex had already planned this from the start.
Bam..Bam..Bam..
After landing his descending kick, Froakie immediately followed it up with a series of light blue glowing kicks.
This was Froakie's Aerial Ace... a descending attack followed by a series of kicks.
Naturally the reason why Froakie was able to learn such a move so fast was thanks to a TM Zealex bought from the holographic screen.
"Lo...tad..."
thud!...
After Froakie's final kick, Lotad instantly fell to the ground completely knocked out.
Seeing this William couldn't help but stare wide eyed... he didn't think he and his Lotad would lose like this.
The referee then raised his hand and shouted: "Lotad is unable to battle the winner is Froakie!"
Hearing the referee's words, the people watching began to talk in excitement.
"No way William actually lost?!"
"That Froakie even withstood a Super Effective move!"
"I've never seen such a cool Froakie before!"
"Zealex... actually won?" Muttered Ron as he stared wide eyed at this scene.
"Froa...Froakie!" Realizing he had won, Froakie quickly jumped onto Zealex's chest and hugged his trainer. He was naturally very happy to have won their first trainer battle.
Within his frubbles a small beak shaped object sparkled. This was naturally the held item Zealex gave Froakie before the start of the battle... Sharp Beak.
It was thanks to this that Froakie's Aerial Ace move that was already Super Effective against Lotad became even stronger and knocked it out immediately.
Coupled with the fact that the move became STAB due to 'Protean', it would've been surprising if Lotad had still gotten up from it.
"You did great Froakie I'm proud of you." Said Zealex with a wide smile as he patted Froakie's head.
"Froa...kie!" Froakie raised his hands in response seemingly lacking energy. It was clear he was also tired due to being hit by Bullet Seeds and Razor Leaf.
"Take a good rest bud you deserve it. I'll take you to the pokemon center in a bit." Said Zealex as he returned Froakie into his Premier Ball.
"Yo Zealex you did it! You actually won a Pokemon battle!" Said Ron as he rushed to Zealex.
Zealex smiled saying: "It was mostly all Froakie though."
"I disagree..." Said William as he was walking towards them. He had also just taken back his Lotad into it's PokeBall to get some rest.
William then smiled and said: "For a Froakie to be that skilled I'm sure you as a trainer had put in quite a bit of effort."
Zealex: "Well uh... thanks I guess."
"Haha I guess it's to be expected of a Gym Leader's son." Said William in a hearty laugh.
Hearing this Zealex was surprised as he asked: "You knew?"
"Indeed.. it's why I challenged you in the first place." Replied William as he nodded and smiled.
Zealex: "I see... Well that kinda makes sense."
William: "Anyway it would be nice to battle you and your Froakie again sometime."
Zealex: "...Same."
After the two shook hands, William immediately walked away and left the park.
It was on this day that Zealex began to think that perhaps pokemon battles were more fun than he had initially thought.
"Did that guy just say... that you're the son of a Gym Leader?" Asked Ron with a shocked expression.
"Oh yeah I never told you about that did I?" Replied Zealex as he was scratching his head a bit embarrassed.
