Jimmy sighed as he stared at the moon. Third quarter moon. He disliked that phase a lot. It was personal to him. He had loved and lost on a third quarter moon many years ago. Romina left him that night, and he had never moved on.
It wasn't that she didn't love him anymore. She loved him too much to hold him back. He knew she was right but he would have thrown away his entire wrestling career before it even started for her. She had pushed him out of the door. She had demanded he went to chase that dream while she stayed behind to finish law school.
He always thought they would find their way back to each other but their paths never crossed again. When he finally worked up the nerves to call her years later, she didn't have that phone number anymore. She was gone, and that dream was always only going to remain a dream.
"Jimmy," Jey said.
"Yeah?" Jimmy asked.
Jimmy hadn't expected Jey to stop by tonight but it wasn't unusual that they showed up unannounced at each other's homes. Jey stepped up next to Jimmy. Jimmy moved his eyes from the moon and down to his twin brother.
"Stop hurting yourself," Jey said.
"I can't help it," Jimmy said. "It's been more than a decade and I can't find a way to get over her. My heart refuses to let me. It's her or no one. Guess I'll be single forever."
"Nah," Jey started grinning. "I think you should talk to her instead."
Jey nodded his head towards the house. Jimmy spun around and there she was. Romina stood there watching him. Her auburn hair had been cut into a short, chic hairstyle that he absolutely loved on her. Her jade green came to life as she nervously smiled at him.
"I'm gonna go home," Jey said. "Call me tomorrow."
Jey walked back inside, through the house, and out on the other side. Jimmy walked up to Romina and took her hands.
"Wow, you look great," he said.
"Thank you. So do you," she said.
"I tried calling you a few years ago," he said.
"I know. Jey told me," she said. "I ran into him at the supermarket. I just moved here. I had no idea you moved here too."
"I did some years ago," he said. "Wow, I can't believe it's really you. How fucking weird is it that you left me on the third quarter moon and then return on it too?"
"Only you know stuff like that," she laughed.
Her laughter made him laugh too. It was like only a day had passed and not years. She was right there in front of him, holding his hands and laughing with him. Without thinking about if she might be single or not, he leaned down to kiss her.
"Jimmy!" She mewled. "Not here."
"Sorry, I'm out of line," he said.
"No, I mean not out here in the garden," she smirked. "At least take me to your bed first."
He grinned at her and lifted her up to carry her bridal style. She laughed all the way into his bedroom. He placed her down on the bed and took his time undressing her and worshipping her body for the first time in many years.
"Please!" She begged. "I need you now."
He quickly got out of his own clothes and kissed his way up her body until he reached her lips again.
"I never thought I'd be with you again," he said. "Is this real?"
"It's real," she assured him. "Please, Jimmy."
He pushed inside her and rocked slowly back and forward with her in a sea of pleasure. He kept going slow for as long as he could, until he could feel her drawing near. He sped up, chasing both of their ends. She came first in a beautiful cry, and he followed her right after. He rolled down next to her and pulled her into his arms. He held on tight to her as if he was scared she would disappear if he let go.
"Please, don't leave me again," he whispered.
"Look at me," she said.
He looked at her and was met by her warm smile. She placed her hand on his cheek and stroked it.
"I love you, Jimmy. I've never loved anyone the way I love you, and I never will. We somehow found our way back to each other here. I'm not leaving. You have to kick me out of your house to get rid of me again," she said.
He broke out into a wide smile and pulled her close for a kiss.
"I love you, Romina," he said. "And if you ever try to leave me again, I'll chain you to this bed."
"That is so not romantic," she laughed.
"I don't care," he laughed too.
She pecked his lips and then his nose before smiling at him again.
"I'm not leaving, Jimmy," she said. "This is our second chance, and we will make it work this time."
