{Start of Chapter III}
(Classroom, Hidden Leaf Academy)
It had been three years and Iruka had developed a strong bond with a lot of his students, but he would be lying if he said that he did not have a soft corner for the jinchuriki.
Uzumaki Naruto had surprised him ever since joining his class, when he heard the boy lived alone and did not like to interact much, that was pretty much an understatement.
The kid never spoke without reason and liked to be left alone at most times. He had somehow managed to get the boy to open up, during his second year and understood where the kid came from.
Being despised by the majority of the village did not do a lot of good to his psyche and that had made him even more introverted.
However, there was no denying the fact that the kid had some serious potential. Naruto was the top of his class when it came to Ninjutsu and was second only to Uchiha Sasuke during Taijutsu.
Iruka's thoughts were interrupted when the one of the kids spoke,
"So how long will we have to wait for our jounin-sensei's, Iruka-sensei?"
Iruka was interrupted once again before he could speak as a figure opened the door and walked inside the classroom.
"A pleasure to meet all you kids, I'm Uchiha Shirou and will be serving as the jounin-sensei for Team 11. Please follow me,"
Shirou spoke as he looked at the kids, most of them were excited to start a new chapter in their life. He then turned his attention towards the three boys he had asked for as they stood up from their seats and joined him.
"Nice meeting you Iruka, see you later,"
Shirou spoke as he left the classroom. Shino, Naruto and Ren nodded before following their new instructor.
"I don't like to waste my time, so I will tell you this right now, none of you are official genins as of now. You will be undergoing my test and I will decide based on your performance whether you are fit to be a shinobi for the Hidden Leaf!"
Shirou spoke as the four individuals walked through the village towards their destination.
The three boys nodded as Shirou looked at Ren.
"How about you introduce yourselves while we get to the training ground,"
"I'm Chinoike Ren, I love training with different types of weapons to understand my Kekkei Genkai better. I like eating food which has a lot of nutrients to develop my body and I guess like spending time with the hounds from the Inuzuka clan!"
Shirou nodded as Shino continued from where his teammate left.
"I'm Shino of the Aburame clan, I like spending time with my hive and learning about different insects that my clan can use in our techniques. I love playing strategic games in my free time when I'm not training with my father,"
"Nothing out of the blue, you are very similar to your father, and before you misinterpret it kid, I meant that as a compliment!"
Shirou chuckled as Shino gave him a faint nod.
"I guess I'm the last, I'm Uzumaki Naruto, the jinchuriki of the Nine Tailed Fox. To be very honest I'm surprised I was put in a team because I was expecting the village to train to be a weapon. I like eating different types of food and taking care of my plants. I'm decent when it comes to ninjutsu and am trying to develop a new taijutsu form that suits my style!"
Naruto spoke as Shirou looked at the blonde with an amused look on his face.
'So he's not afraid of talking about his tailed beast among his peers, either he's got used to it or he's just ignorant. I can't think I sense any hatred in his words towards the village, but then again I might be wrong!'
Shirou thought to himself as the four reached training ground 17.
"Very well, it's nice meeting all three of you. I'm Uchiha Shirou and as you know I'll be serving as your jounin-sensei if you manage to pass my test. I like to workout and keep myself in the best shape at all times. I did have a dream but I guess I have fulfilled it now, so now my dream is to make the best team out of you brats!"
Shirou spoke as the three looked at him with attention on their faces.
"So for your test, as you know our village puts a lot of faith in the 'Will of Fire' and we believe in teamwork above everything else, so I expect you to function as a unit throughout the test. I know it can be a little hard for a team that was formed just minutes ago, but I expect nothing less from brats who I personally handpicked for my team!"
Now that surprised the three boys, from what they had heard jounins were allowed to pick just one of their three students. If this man was given full control over his entire team selection, he sure had some high standards.
"Now for your test, I'll keep it very simple. This test will have just two stages. You see training ground 17 is more like a quick blitz battlefield. So what I want you three to do is to land a total of three hits on me, while lasting for ten minutes!"
Shirou explained as the three kids nodded.
"I'll give you some time to plan your strategy. This is going to be your first C-Rank mission that has the potential to reach even S-Rank based on how hard you make it for me!"
The man chuckled as he shunshined away leaving his three students to talk strategy.
"Hmm so from what we have gathered so far, we need to land three hits on him while lasting ten minutes, we will have to function as a team and complement each other's strengths and weaknesses,"
Ren spoke as Shino and Naruto nodded in agreement, this was a safe option as taking on the jounin alone would just exploit them.
"From what I understand, Shino can be in-charge of long-ranged attacks and provide us with the backup when needed. I'm good at close combat and so is Naruto, we will try to hold him down while Shino keeps him at bay!"
"This is not going to be as easy as it seems, but let's give it a try!"
Naruto spoke with a blank expression on his face as the other two nodded, as Shirou walked up to them and smiled.
"I guess you three are done with your planning so let's get the show on the road!"
Shirou chuckled as he gestured to the three to come at him.
Ren looked at Naruto as the two gave each other a silent nod before running towards the jounin.
Naruto was the first to launch an attack as he went in for a big haymaker which was easily deflected by the Uchiha clan head. Ren tried to take advantage of the moment as he tried to sweep Shirou's legs but the jounin was a step ahead as he took a couple steps back.
He wasn't given a lot of time as Shino tried to force him back with his swarm of bugs, but had to immediately call them back as the man let out a stream of fire.
"Hmm, so far so good. But you cannot expect a jounin to fall for such an easy trap!"
"Yeah we expected you to avoid that, Blood Style: Extended Blades!"
Ren spoke as he used his kunai to cut his palms, summoning two long blades made from his blood as he dashed towards the Uchiha.
Shirou smiled as he pulled out his kunai, easily deflecting the strikes from the dual blade wielder, Naruto tried to get in his blind spot and launch a kick but the jounin easily caught him and flung him towards Ren.
The redhead however, was quick to react as he changed one of his blades into a shield as Naruto quickly balanced himself before lunging back at the jounin.
"Shino, now!"
The Aburame nodded as he quickly went through a series of hand signs.
"Earth Style: Rock Thorn Bed"
Shino thrust his palms on the ground as multiple spikes emerged on the flat surface rushing towards the jounin.
Shirou quickly jumped up but Naruto was quick on the follow up as he tried to get a kick on the jounins' chest. However, Shirou swatted him away before launching his kunai at Naruto who dissipated in a poof as the kunai hit him square.
'Shadow Clones, huh'
The Uchiha thought to himself as Naruto appeared behind him aiming to take his head off. The Uchiha tried to spin around but saw multiple tendrils made out of blood holding him in place.
However, before Naruto could land his punch, the jounin quickly caught it before landing his knee into the blonde's midsection causing him to grunt in pain.
"Not so quick sensei, Earth Style: Pebble Barrage"
Shino launched a flurry of pebbles towards Shirou who tossed Naruto away before using his kunai to deflect the pebbles aimed at him.
"Got you, Water Style: Quick Stream"
Ren spit quick succession of water causing the pebbles to turn into mud as they stuck to him and his kunai causing no damage.
"Earth Style: Mud Manipulation"
Shino spoke as the mud around the jounin started to grow thick, holding him down in his position.
"Lightning Style: Static Fist"
Naruto charged at Shirou, coating his fist with a hint of electricity, before Shirou could deflect the incoming attack, his hand was pulled away once again by Ren who used his tendrils to pull the free hand away as Naruto's fist landed on Shirou's midsection.
Before the three could celebrate, the jounin dissipated in a puff of smoke, as Ren grumbled.
"Fking Shadow Clones! Be prepared he can be anywhere,"
The three boys quickly regrouped as they stood making a triangle to stop any incoming attacks. However, they were forced to jump as the ground turned into a swamp.
Before the three could regroup Ren was quickly taken out with a strong kick that the boy did not even see coming.
"Hmm, you three have some good teamwork when it comes to fresh out of the academy students., who am I kidding, you'll even put some of the chunnins to shame, but still not enough for me!"
Shirou chuckled as Naruto helped Ren get back to his feet.
"There are a very few kids who have an idea about elemental manipulation, especially you Shino, I was expecting you to just use your clan techniques so your control Earth style was a little surprising, just not enough to throw me off though!"
Shino nodded at the jounin before once again going through a set of hand signs as he made a silent signal on Naruto and Ren.
"Earth Style: Rock Thorn Bed"
"Water Style: Bullet Barrage"
Ren and Shino quickly fired their attacks as the rock projectiles rushed towards the jounin who quickly used a gust of wind to deflect the bullets away before smashing through the rocks with his brute strength.
However, he was not expecting Naruto to be hidden among the projectiles as he lunged at the jounin.
"Lightning Style: Static Fist"
Shirou was a step behind as he failed to avoid the static powered jab paralysing him to his place, Shino quickly took advantage of the opening as he slammed his fists on the surface as the ground around the jounins' legs turned into swamp, causing him to sink up to his shin.
"Fire Style: Cinder Flame"
Naruto quickly let out a stream of fire as the mud around Shirou's feet turned into clay as the firm ground held him solid.
The jounin just chuckled before he once again dissipated in a puff of smoke.
"I'm starting to get annoyed with the clones!"
Ren growled as Naruto quickly jumped back avoiding a fist from Shirou before taking a sharp turn making use of the momentum to launch multiple shurikens at the jounin.
The jounin easily deflected the projectiles but did not expect one of them to change into Naruto as the blonde's punch connected with the jounins' jaw sending him a step behind as he rubbed his cheek.
"Hmm that was clever, I guess you hinged yourself into one of these to catch me off guard, that's good thinking!"
Shirou praised Naruto who gave him a nod before jumping back to his teammates.
"Okay so we have our first hit but that is not going to work again and as you can see we are running out of time, we only have three minutes remaining to get the other two hits on him!"
Ren spoke as Naruto and Shino looked at him with a thinking expression on their faces.
"This is going to be hard, but I think I have a plan, whatever happens just do not get surprised and try to use the opening I create to take advantage!"
Naruto spoke as he looked at Ren and Shino who had somewhat surprised expressions on their faces.
The blonde stepped forward as he looked at Shirou with an excited expression on his face.
'No holding back now!'
The blonde thought to himself as he looked at the Uchiha clan head.
"Lightning Style: Static Armour"
Electricity enveloped the blonde as he charged towards the jounin with a kunai in each hand.
"Hmm, charging at me alone huh, guess the running clock has made you desperate Naruto-kun!"
Shirou chuckled as he pulled out his own set of kunai before channelling wind chakra through them to counter the rushing jinchuriki.
The two clashed as Naruto quickly took a sharp turn breaking free and went for a slash, causing Shirou to quickly adjust his grip on his kunai before deflecting the strike with a swipe of his own.
Naruto, not to be deterred, was quick as he went for a thrust with his open hand making Shirou jump back and then used the wind element in his kunai to extend them to block the blonde's attack.
"Lightning style: Cloak of Sparks"
Naruto spoke as blue electricity spread around him before charging back at Shirou.
"Hmm, that's different from the Static Armour that you were using,"
Shirou spoke as quickly sidestepped the coming blow before using the momentum from Naruto strike's to push him forward hoping to find him in an unstable position.
However, to his surprise the blond managed to duck the push as he threw his kunai towards the jounins' face without looking.
'He has a good understanding the area, his intuition is surely on point for a shinobi,'
Shirou thought to himself before blocking the incoming projectile. However he did not expect the kunai to blow up in his face as the impact sent him back staggering.
'The brat had an exploding tag attached on that kunai!'
Before the Uchiha could recover from the surprise Naruto was right onto him with a sudden burst of him with first encased in lighting chakra.
"Lighting Style: Static Fist"
Shirou put his hands together in a X position blocking the attack but was surprised when he saw the blond chuckling.
"It's not just my kunai that explodes, sensei!"
Naruto spoke as he exploded, sending Shirou staggering behind. The explosion caused a lot of smoke, as Naruto rushed through the black smoke launching another punch, Shirou managed to block it but Naruto once again exploded as Shirou found himself being pushed behind due to the impact.
Before the man could get his footing back, his feet were quickly encased in mud that covered him up to his knees stopping him from any movement.
'I guess the brats managed to get him, Naruto used Exploding clones to create a blind spot and Shino took advantage of the opportunity to trap me when I was trying to recover from the impact, these brats will surely go far!'
Shirou was interrupted in his thoughts as Naruto hit him dead centre on his jaw, sending him flying towards a tree. The Uchiha however managed to substitute himself at the last moment to avoid the damage from the impact.
The man smirked as he saw the three boys ready in an arrow formation. However they were interrupted as the alarm sounded signalling the end of the designated time.
"Oh look at that, I guess you guessed I could not get three hits on me in the required time, and you were so close, it's a shame that you failed!"
The three boys had a disheartened expression on their faces as they failed to complete the task at hand, Ren was grumbling about being useless while Naruto seemed to have a frown on his face. Shino seemed impassive but one could tell from his body language that he was equally disappointed.
"Okay let's analyse how you three did, you managed to get two out of the three hits that I asked you for, your teamwork was surprisingly impeccable, even chunnins who have been in teams for an year sometimes fail to display this level of understanding with their teammates."
"Shino, you impressed me with your Earth Style manipulation and your battlefield awareness. Ren you need to train more when it comes to elemental manipulation but I think you have a good grasp over your Kekkai Genkai, I'd just you train with normal weapons first before switching to the blood version,"
Shirou spoke as the talked with the three boys,
"Naruto, you are far more talented than the usual kids of your age, I know you have received training from someone, and I have an inkling who it is but I will let you keep your secret. Your taijutsu style is explosive and the exploding clones are a good addition, and your control when it comes to lighting style manipulation is surely above chunin level!"
The three boys intently listened to what the Uchiha clan head spoke, as they had a small smile on their face for being recognised.
"However, what matters most is that despite all that good showing you failed and that's the bitter truth. Since you did manage to get two hits on me, I'll give you an option. I'll allow two of you to retake the genin exam while one of you has to return to the academy to take another year,"
Naruto tried to speak but he was interrupted by the jounin,
"And before you say that you would like to function as a team and there is no three-man cell in the Hidden Lead, let me complete what I have to say. As I already told you before, I have full permission to train my team as I wish and I can take the other two as my apprentices, I'll let you three make the decision on who goes back to the academy!"
Shirou spoke with a smirk as he looked at the boys who had determined expressions on their faces.
'I guess they do understand the meaning behind the whole Will of Fire schtick!'
"We'd rather retake the exam as a team than leave one of us behind. We have waited for three years, so another year does not mean a lot!"
Ren spoke as Naruto and Shino nodded in agreement causing Shirou to frown.
"I guess if that is your final answer, the three of you have hereby failed my test and Team 11 will return to the academy!"
Shirou spoke as he disappeared in his traditional black shunshin.
"So I guess this is it for Team 11, I'm sorry I could not help you guys much, let's give our best next year!"
Ren spoke with a downtrodden expression on his face as Naruto and Shino gave him a silent nod. The three had tried their best but had fallen short.
"It's fine Chinoike-san, you gave your best. All of us had some shortcomings and I guess that is the reality!"
Shino spoke as Ren punched the ground in frustration.
Unknown to the three Shirou was silent watching the whole conversation as he stood above them on a tree.
'Hmm, if it were some other kids they would have started blaming each other for holding the other back, it would be a pain to train a bunch of brats, but failing them here would be a disservice to their talents! Should I get Barbeque for dinner, I mean I do have the invitation from the Chouza-san to join him and his family,'
Shirou thought to himself as he continued to listen to the conversation between the three boys.
"I should have gone all-out from the start, that would have given us some extra-time to complete the test,"
Naruto spoke as Ren put a hand on his shoulder.
"Well we did give our best, that's all I can say right now, to be honest I never expected us to fail. I mean Shirou-sensei is surely strong but we couldn't even get three hits on him, that has to suck!"
"I'll have to agree with what Chinoike-san said, we did give out our best. If you went all-out from the start we would not have the element of surprise. I'll take my leave now, I'll have to report to my father and inform him of the result."
'Okay, I guess I have heard enough to make a decision. I guess BBQ sounds good for lunch,'
The jounin spoke to himself and jumped down from the tree, surprising the three boys.
"Honestly, I think failing you three will prove me wrong in front of the council because I personally selected the three of you, so I guess I will let you pass. Aburame Shino, Chinoike Ren and Uzumaki Naruto, the three of you are officially genin of the Hidden Leaf Village. Welcome to Team 11!"
Shirou spoke with a smile on his face and the three boys beamed with joy.
"Now before you pass out with excitement, here are some rules that I expect you to follow until the day you work under me. The Village is your priority above anything else. Friends, Family, Love, Pride it doesn't matter what is at stake. I expect all of you to put the village at the front!"
"Two, we never abandoned our comrades, no matter how hard the situation was. If you three find an adversary above your grade and only two of you come back alive, I'll kill the remaining two because I expect you to keep each other alive at all costs, lose an arm I don't care but no one in my team dies!"
"Am I clear!?"
Shirou spoke with authority in his voice as the three genins gave him a respectful nod.
"Now that we are done with the first two rules, here is the last and maybe the most important rule. I hate traitors, if any of you ever decide to abandon the village, I promise you, I'll personally make sure you do not wake up to witness the rising sun!"
The Uchiha clan head spoke as all the three boys gave him a stern nod.
"Great, we are done for today, get some rest. We start training tomorrow, based on how you perform, we can even skip D-Ranks and start with C-Ranks!"
Shirou spoke as he was enveloped in black light before he was no longer there.
"We made it, we managed to pass!"
Ren shouted in joy as he enveloped Naruto and Shino in a bear hug.
'I guess this is how it feels to be accepted by someone,'
Naruto thought to himself as he returned the hug and let out a pure smile, one he forgot he even had!

Sorry for the wait, I got busy with some work and could not get the chapter out early. I don't know how good the fight scene was, I try to be descriptive but it is my first time writing a full fight segment, I hope it is somewhat up to the mark.
Now for giving the genins elemental release, hear me out!
I personally think that all the students should have known some type of elemental release since the academy. I mean Sasuke knew Fire Style in the anime and manga when he graduated, so why can't the others also have some basic techniques at their disposal.
With Naruto I know he has Wind Style elemental release, but I honestly feel that is one of the most boring types. With Lightning there is a lot of room for development.

So this was everything that happened in this chapter. The team is officially formed and I think I might start with my first arc very soon, it's not going to be the Wave Arc or maybe it could be not so sure, I'm juggling with a couple of ideas.
And who has trained Naruto in Lightning Release, taking a blind guess lol!
