Disclaimer: I do not own Naruto/Boruto or anything related, if I had then Boruto wouldn't be this long and annoying. Unfortunately all rights belong to Masashi Kishimoto-san. (Mikio Ikemoto is an idiot who is cashing in on a phenomenon)
Lazymanjones96: Thanks for the review man, hope you like the story so far. I'll try my best to make sure you keep enjoying the fic.
Tp23: Naah, he did not use his dojutsu at all, and I think MS/EMS will come into play sooner, not so sure about EMS right now with all that eye transplant, I do not want it to be meaningless like jar a of Sharingan and have a transplant. Now about the Monkey summons that seems like a good idea but I have already hinted at his possible summons, easter egg in chapter 1!
So without any delay, let's get the show on the road
"Lightning Release: Black Bolt" Speaking
'Lightning Release: Black Bolt' Thinking
"Lighting Release: Black Bolt" Technique Name
{Start of Chapter IV}
(Training Ground 11, Hidden Leaf Village)
"You need to focus on what your teammates are doing when you dash in Ren. When you charge in towards your opponent, you have to ensure that you compliment your teammates' attack. "
Shirou spoke as he blocked an upcoming attack from Ren pushing the boy back before jumping a step behind to avoid incoming spikes from Shino who was looking to catch him off guard.
The bug user had no time to relax as he was sent flying backwards as Shirou's punch sent him crashing backwards.
"Shino, while I understand your role is that off a support and a ranged attacker, you have to make sure to keep your eyes on your opponent and not take your eyes off them at any time,"
Shino shrugged as he dusted himself before giving the Uchiha clan a slightly noticeable nod.
Shirou turned as he looked towards the wide opening where multiple Naruto's were trying to form lighting chakra around themselves.
"So how's your training going, since you know the secret behind the shadow clones, this jutsu is perfect for someone like you with massive chakra reserves. Keep trying to form the lighting chakra at one base and then spread it across your body, that is the first of the many steps towards the perfect Lighting Armour, your Cloak of Sparks is just a base form!"
Naruto nodded as he tried to emit lightning chakra around his base before slowly moving them around his body, his success was short lived as the sparks started to go wild before exploding dissipating all the clones as the original was sent flying backwards.
"Hmm, you are trying to send too much chakra around your body parts, you need to slowly spread them around, if you try to rush the chakra flow, you know the result, as you just witnessed,"
Shirou said as he turned towards Shino and Ren.
"Okay now I have two techniques for both of you, which I want you to learn before we head for our first mission next week, all these techniques are genin-level with the potential to turn into a jounin-ranked technique!"
"Shino, since you have positioned yourself as the ranged attacker, you need to be prepared for all sorts of ambushes from your opponents. First I want you to incorporate Earth Style: Tremor Sensing into fighting style as it will allow you to sense people around you,"
"Second is Earth Style: Shield of Stone, while this is a taxing technique, this should help you tank damage while slowly increasing your chakra capacity and stamina!"
"Ren, I know you are apt with your bloodline techniques but for now I want you to focus on Water manipulation to compliment Shino and Naruto with their respective elements. To act as a replacement for your Blood Style: Extended Blades, I want you to start training in Water Style: Water Sword. It has a lot of potential on how the user decides to use the technique,"
"Second, you need something more powerful that just Water Style: Bullet Barrage, it is more of a complementary technique than an attacking move. You'll be learning Water Style: Cannon Beam, this move is the first stage towards Water Style: Water Dragon Crash, you need to focus on the mass of chakra and then release it all at once, for this to work!"
The two boys nodded as Shirou tossed them their respective scrolls for the techniques.
"If you need any help, let me know and I will try my best to help you all, we are done for the day. I want ten rounds around the training ground, before the three of you head back!"
Shirou spoke with a smile on his face as the three boys groaned as he continued to do as instructed as the Uchiha looked at them with a smirk on his face.
'When I'm done with these brats, they will surely be around a high-chinin to a low-jounin level, the Chunin exams will surely be fun, that's for sure!'
{SCENE BREAK}
(Akimichi Barbeque, Hidden Leaf Village)
Kakashi was tired with how his team had been functioning, he knew Sasuke was going to be hard to work with, but the brat was the definition of anti-social.
He refused to work with any of his teammates and his only aim was to become strong in hopes of killing his brother to avenge his clan.
Sasuke wasn't his only problem. Danzo had somehow managed to get one of his shinobi amongst the graduating genin. The kid was skilled, Kakashi had no doubts about it, the issue was that he had no idea how to interact with people.
His third and final member of the team, was annoying in her own rights. Sakura was infatuated with Sasuke and spent 90% of her time trying to impress the boy. While she did have some sort of intelligence and social skills, it wasn't helpful at all as his team did not have one shred of teamwork.
"Troublesome brats!"
"Now now Kakashi, stop that train of thoughts, one would mistake you for a Nara you know!"
A voice chuckled as Kakashi turned behind to see Shirou standing alongside the Sandaime Hokage.
The cyclops quickly stood up to greet his former ANBU vice-commander and the Hokage.
The two men nodded as they took the seat opposite to the masked jounin.
"So why are you grumbling like a Nara this early in the afternoon?"
Shirou spoke as he ordered a couple of items from the menu in front of him as Hiruzen proceeded to do the same. Kakashi looked at the Uchiha clan head as he let out a sigh.
"Well to be very honest, Team 7 has no shred of teamwork, they are a disaster in the making, they failed the bell test but managed to pass the pole test. But I think I made a mistake in passing them, it is hard to make them work together!"
Kakashi spoke with another sigh as Shirou and Hiruzen intently listened to his words.
"Sasuke thinks he is above everyone else, Sai is a loner who has no idea how to communicate with people and Sakura, hmm in simple words she's a fangirl!"
Shirou chuckled as he looked at Kakashi.
"Well I have been telling you for a long time now that your bell test is overrated, no newly formed unit is expected to perform like a team from day one. No offence to Namikaze-san but those times were different, right now you need to different criteria, teamwork is developed with time,"
Shirou spoke as Hiruzen nodded in agreement.
"I agree with Shirou-kun, you need to take a different approach Kakashi, do not feel pressured by the elders, I know they have been eating your ear about training Sasuke in his Sharingan, but he's your student now. So you are free to oversee how he does and how you wish to train him!"
Hiruzen spoke with a calm expression on his face. The Hokage knew that the elders had gone behind his back and tried to pressure Kakashi into giving special treatment to Sasuke and the man was easily guilt tripped considering his history with people close to him.
"While we are on the topic of training your team, care to explain why Naruto knows Lighting manipulation, as far as my memory goes, you are the only jounin in the Hidden Leaf who's style matches what saw Naruto use!"
Shirou spoke with a stern expression on his face as Hiruzen looked at Kakashi with a mild surprise on his face as the masked jounin gave a sheepish smile.
"Well I met the kid when he was six, like meeting face to face. So I saw him training in taijutsu so that was kinda surprising. To be honest, he kind of reminded me of Minato-sensei! He seemed so serious and yet relaxed, it's like he's a copy of him,"
Kakashi spoke with a melancholic look on his face as Shirou and Hiruzen looked at each other and gave a slight smile.
Everyone in the village knew about Kakashi's relationship with the fourth Hokage, the man was more than a teacher, he was Kakashi's father figure. The jounin had been hit hard by Minato and Kushina's death and it took him almost twelve years to somewhat come out of it.
Those who knew about Naruto's parents knew that the kid represented his parents in a lot of ways. While Naruto was a splitting image of his father, it seemed like he had somehow managed to get his personality as well.
The kid was far too calculated for someone his age, and understood his importance to the village. Hiruzen still remembered the time when the blonde walked into his office and informed him that he knew he was the village's jinchuriki. That had given the old man a mini heart-attack.
"Hmm from the looks of it, I feel like you are thinking of him as the next successor for your Lightning Blade, from what I feel it wouldn't take him too long to learn it!"
Shirou spoke with a smile on his face as Kakashi chuckled.
"Well it is still a long shot, I showed him the basics with Lighting Style: Static Fist and he took to it like a fish in the ocean. If I had to take a blind guess, the kid has a strong affinity for Lighting as his first element. I did give him the chakra paper to test out his element but his paper showed a lot of changes so I could not put a finger on it,"
"Can you elaborate on what you mean by a lot of changes Kakashi?"
Hiruzen spoke with a frown on his face, he had no idea about Naruto's elements from what he had known the kid did have affinity for lightning but that's it.
"I did not think of it much, I thought it was a defective paper. The paper crinkled at first before it became soggy. While that was not surprising because of the elements his parents had, the soggy piece of paper surprisingly caught fire!"
"Usually when someone has fire and water elements together, first the paper burns before extinguishing so I figured it was a defective piece of paper. I mean that's how the paper works so I did not give it too much attention,"
Hiruzen had a thinking expression on his face as he tried to figure out the reason behind the chakra paper acting up.
"Chakra paper does not act up Kakashi, I think at least you'd know that. There is just one possible explanation, what I am going to say should never leave the three of us…"
{SCENE BREAK | TIME SKIP}
(Training Ground 11, Hidden Leaf Village)
"I think the three of you have progressed as per my expectations, and we have done plenty of D-Ranks to take up a higher ranked mission in the coming days. If it were up to me I would have skipped D-ranks entirely, but that would have given the council something to point out,"
Shirou sighed as he looked at his three students, they had done some decent work in the past week and they had even managed to get down the techniques he had provided them.
While by no means they had completely mastered the said techniques, that would be preposterous, but they surely had come far when it came to their control and use of the techniques.
"I have already requested Lord Hokage to grant us a C-Rank mission and we are likely to be briefed today, this is going to be your first actual experience of stepping outside the village as shinobi. I hope all of you do your best to represent the Hidden Leaf,"
Shirou spoke as the three kids nodded in agreement, packing their things as the four walked towards the Hokage's office.
(Change of Location)
Shirou smiled as he greeted the Hokage's secretary with a polite smile as the old lady gestured to them to follow her into the Sandaime's office.
Hiruzen looked up from his seat as he saw Shirou and Team 11 enter his office, greeting them with a smile.
"Ahh just the team I was expecting to see, your sensei had asked me to provide your squad with a C-Ranked mission, while most of my peers were kind of reluctant at first, if Shirou thinks you are ready I'm not going to argue with his opinion!"
The Uchiha clan head gave the old man a curt nod as the three kids greeted him with a bow.
The secretary walked up to the Sandaime with a scroll in her hands, as the old man looked at it before tossing it towards Shirou.
"I think this should be a good mission to test the waters and see how far you have come, it's nothing too serious but I'd advise you take this with caution. Team 11 has been assigned to deliver this scroll to our agent in the Hidden Mist, your task is to provide the message in the scroll to one of our own who will be waiting for you at the borders, while avoiding any sort of leaks, is that clear?"
Hiruzen spoke with a stern expression on his face, while he knew the team would do well, he surely had an image to uphold. Naruto smiled as he looked at his teammates who nodded in agreement as he turned towards the Hokage.
"We will make sure to give our best, and perform to your expectations!"
"Perfect Naruto-kun, just what I wanted to hear, now if you three will please excuse us, I have something I need to discuss with your sensei!"
Hiruzen spoke as the three boys gave him a curt bow before following the Hokage's secretary out of his office.
"Something tells me that is not the only mission?"
Shirou spoke with a frown on his face as Hiruzen looked at him with a slightly tired expression on his face before giving the jounin a nod in agreement.
"I received a letter from Mei Terumi, the leader of the rebel forces against the current Mizukage. She has asked the Hidden Leaf to lend a hand in her endeavours in return for an alliance between the two villages when she takes over as the Yondaime Mizukage!"
"So let me take a blind guess, you are thinking about considering her offer but you know that the council will not see any merit in assisting in the coup d'etat. I personally think we should avoid them for the time being, if you are looking for my opinion!"
The Sandaime signed as he turned towards the Uchiha clan head and nodded his head.
"You are partially correct, I am not looking for your opinion on the matter. I have a separate mission for you. While your team engages with our agent. I want you to meet Miss Terumi and inform her that the Hidden Leaf will be assisting her behind the scenes, that means while we cannot officially send our shinobi in their aid, we will try to the best of our capabilities!"
"You have been living with Shimura-san for too long, sensei. I never thought of you as a person who'd go behind the back of the council and make decisions on his own. Then again I've been wrong about you before!"
Shirou spoke with a smirk on his face as the Hokage frowned. He knew that the Uchiha clan head still held a grudge towards him for what happened a year ago, but that did not mean he had to keep reminding him of the incident.
"I'm not in the mood for your sarcasm, I think I am sound enough to make a decision in the favour of the village. While I agree that I may have been wrong with my approach with your clan, this is not the time and place to be discussing the past!"
Shirou had a blank expression on his face as he gave the Hokage a curt bow.
"I apologise, so is there anything else that I need to know?"
"I need an honest answer here, and while I hate to ask this of you, do you think your team is ready, based on what happens, Team 11 might have to serve a long time away from the village!"
"So you asking me if three genins fresh out of the academy are ready for war?"
Shirou spoke with a sarcastic tone as the Hokage sighed.
"I know this sounds stupid, but if we do manage to come at agreement, then I think I might have to ask for your help. As you already know, the Sandaime Mizukage is the jinchuriki of the Three Tailed Beast! With your Sharingan you can be of great help, there are only two other users and I cannot have Sasuke outside the village in this situation, so that rules Kakashi by default!"
"This has to be one of the stupidest things you have ever said in my presence, and there have been many but sending three genins on a borderline SS-Ranked mission, that is just absurd. I think I have every right to refuse this mission for the well-being of my team. While they are indeed talented for anything around B-Rank. Assisting Miss Terumi's rebel forces is a suicide mission!"
"I can understand your concern Shirou, I'll give you two options, either you and your team can take this mission and then you branch off for your part of the mission, or you can just take this as a solo mission. I'll provide Team Ro to assist you in the mission!"
Hiruzen sighed as he weighted his option, Shirou was crucial for this treaty to happen, Mei Terumi had mentioned his name as the top priority in the list of reinforcements, his Sharingan was surely going to come in handy in trying to subdue Yagura, so that was understandable.
"Only on one condition, my team will be allowed to return from the mission once their half is done. I am not pushing these kids into a war that does not concern them. I want the complete Team Ro as my backup and that means I want Kakashi as well!"
"You are driving a hard bargain here Shirou, while I agree that the war does not concern these kids, I have another reason behind sending your team in particular. I'll give you Team Ro with Kakashi but Team 11 will stay there if needed, and that's final. I am not negotiating this with you, this is a direct order!"
Hiruzen spoke with authority in his voice as Shirou slammed his hands on the Hokage's desk with frustration evident on his face.
"Hiruzen, I want you to be fking honest with me for once, why was Team 11 assigned this mission, why haven't you informed the council of your decision, and I'll know if you are lying so speak nothing but the truth!"
Hiruzen signed as he observed the angry expression on his students' face, Shirou did not lose his calm easily, this was the third time he had lost it in his presence, he would have to navigate very carefully and make sure he did not anger the jounin any further.
"The answer is Naruto! I know he is a kid, but I have to think for the entire village, Hidden Cloud and Stone have two jinchuriki who have complete control over their Tailed Beasts. The alliance with Hidden Mist is surely going to ruffle some feathers so.."
"You want to train your weapon as soon as possible!"
Shirou spoke with evident anger on his face. He knew Hiruzen was a shrewd man but he had not expected the old man to send a twelve year old to war just for the village's sake.
"You know I thought you had a habit of disappointing the living, guess you don't care about the dead either!"
Shirou spoke with no emotion behind his voice as he simply walked out of the office.
"Team 11 accepts your suicide mission!"
Hiruzen just sat on his seat with no emotion on his face as he saw the retreating figure of his old student before letting out a sigh as he turned towards Minato's portrait hanging on the wall.
'I'm sorry for what I am doing, but I had to do it, for the greater good of the village. I hope you can forgive me!'
{SCENE BREAK}
(Outside the Hokage's office, Hidden Leaf)
Saying Shirou was annoyed was an understatement, Hiruzen had just used him and his team as a bargaining chip for a possible treaty down the line with the Hidden Mist and he did not like it at all.
Second he was starting to get irritated with the Hokage's constant decision making with the greater good of the village in mind. How many people had lost their lives for the so called greater good of the village, if this did not come to an end soon, shit was going to hit the fan.
The jounin looked at his students who were waiting for him outside the building awaiting further instructions. Shirou sighed as he looked at the three with a tired expression on his face.
"Listen I'm not in the mood to repeat myself so I'll just say this once, shake your heads and do not say anything!"
"I want the three of you to pack for two months, get everything you need, pack your gear in surplus and meet me at the village's door in three hours, I have to meet some other people in the meanwhile, this is no longer a C-Rank mission, shit just hit the fan and I want all three of you to understand this, this mission is probably going to be one of the shittiest experience of you lives, so be prepared for absolutely anything!"
Shirou spoke as the kids looked at him in confusion before nodding in agreement, something had gone south during his talk with the Hokage, while they did not know what, they knew that their teacher was annoyed and it was better to agitate him further.
"Good, I'll see you in three hours!"
Shirou spoke as he was covered by black light before he was no longer present in the vicinity.
"So why do you think he is that pissed?"
Ren spoke as he looked at his teammates who had equally confused expressions on their faces.
"I was here with you so I have no idea, but whatever it is we should start preparing for what he asked for!"
Naruto spoke as Shino nodded in agreement before the three fist-bumped each other before going separate ways unaware that the Sandaime was watching them from his window.
'I hope I have made the right decision, I know this is too early but we cannot fall behind the Cloud or the Stone.'
The Sandaime sighed as he turned towards his personal guards.
"Get me Kakashi and Team Ro, I have an S-Rank mission for them!"
Shit was about to hit the fan soon and unfortunately for the Sandaime, he was going to find himself in the very centre, he had a feeling and when you live as long as him, there were a very few instances where your intuition proved to be incorrect.
{End of Chapter IV}
Now that took a drastic turn!
Well this is mainly a story centred around Shirou but as the name of the show suggests, I think Naruto deserves to be the second protagonist. So yeah there will be some chapters where he will have the limelight but that's not happening anything soon.
Second, I know a lot of you might hate me for the portrayal of Hiruzen. But for me he was never a good Hokage to be honest. He was far too lenient, made too many mistakes and lacked that cutting edge. So I made just a couple of changes to his character. He is way too lenient, he is making far too many mistakes but he understands Danzo's concept better here and kind of believes in both ideologies, 'The Will of Fire' and 'For the Greater Good'.
The next chapter will kickstart the first major arc in the story. The Hidden Mist Arc that will at most have like 6-8 chapters at max before I hop towards the Chunin Exams.
I am thinking about introducing a pairing but I am not sure if it is actually needed so let me know how you guys feel about it. I have a few names in my mind, but nothing is set in stone as of now.
I hope you guys liked the chapter, I know this was more of a filler but I need some bridging chapters to connect towards where the story is going. Personally I believe, conversations are my strength when writing a story, so I kind of try to stick to it, I will try incorporating more fight scenes in the coming chapters, well it is kinda unavoidable :P
Naruto's first element is lightning as most of you have already figured, now the stuff with his chakra paper will be revealed later in the story.
I'll try to come out with the next chapter in the next five-six days. I have some of the draft ready but I am still meshing out the fight scenes. Hope you guys keep enjoying the story.
Please let me know what you think about the story so far in the comments section so I can try and provide you with the best output.
Keep reading and reviewing, until then take care, Ja Ne.
