{Start of Chapter V}
(Village Gates, Hidden Leaf Village)
Naruto was probably the first person who had reached the village gates, he was dressed in a standard shinobi outfit with the addition of a black jacket over his undershirt. He had his forehead protector tied to his shoulder with some pockets strapped to his trousers. (Imagine the adult Naruto fit, now just add the headband to his shoulder)
The blonde seemed lost in his thoughts when he was interrupted by his teammates who made their way to the village gates. Shino was dressed in the standard shinobi outfit as well with a big hoodie covering his upper body.
Ren on the other hand had a blue body-suit on with a flak jacket over the fit.
The red-haired chuckled as he greeted Naruto as he looked at the blonde in amusement.
"I was kind of expecting you to be be the first guy to be here,"
"Well I was done with everything so I thought why not come here before time,"
Naruto shrugged as Shino gave him a nod.
The three genins were interrupted as a team of ANBU appeared next to them in a shunshin. Naruto easily recognized the man standing in the front.
He had trained a lot with the Dog masked ANBU in the past, they would sometimes eat out together, he could say the man was like a brother esque figure for me.
"What brings you here Dog-san?"
"Well Naruto-kun it seems like my team will be accompanying your team for this mission, though we will be more like your shadow as we have a different mission?"
The Dog masked ANBU spoke as he ruffled the kids hair resulting in a frown from the said blonde.
"I'm not a kid you know that right, it takes time to get my hair in the right places!"
Naruto groaned as the other ANBU standing behind Dog snickered.
"Well let me introduce you to my team Naruto-kun, the violet-haired woman there is Cat, the big man behind her is Boar, next to him is Tenzo and I think you already know Hawk! All of them work under me collectively under the name Team Ro"
The silver-haired man introduced as he pointed at each member of his team as the genin nodded, giving a curt bow as they gave their own introductions.
"Uzumaki Naruto/ Aburame Shino/ Chinoike Ren,"
The three genins spoke as the ANBU operatives nodded.
"I see you have met each other,"
Shirou spoke as he walked up to the eight shinobi. All of them greeted the Uchiha clan head as he just shook his head in amusement.
"All of you already know me, I'm Uchiha Shirou and will act as the leader of this entire mission. The mission instructions are very simple, Team 11 will act as the front end team while Team Ro will operate in the shadows and will not act until I ask for it!"
Shirou spoke with authority in his voice as everyone nodded.
"Great I hope everyone has everything they need, let's get going!"
"Man I will surely miss the village, we will be gone for months for a C-Rank mission, I hope the other teams do not get a lot of missions and get ahead of us!"
Ren spoke as Shino and Naruto facepalmed, as Shirou looked at the red-head with a grimace on his face.
'Hope that we are done as soon as possible, the longer we take the more troublesome it gets for the kids!'
{SCENE BREAK}
(Border of the Land of Fire)
It was almost evening and Team 11 alongside Team Ro had almost made it to the borders of the Land of Fire, getting to the Hidden Mist would still take them a few days, so it was better to rest and conserve energy at every possible occasion.
"We will be camping here for the day, we have made good progress and I do not want any of you to be fatigued when we are close to the Hidden Mist,"
Shirou spoke as his three genins nodded before Team Ro appeared next to them in a collective shunshin.
"I agree senpai, I think it would be suitable to camp here for now,"
The Dog masked ANBU spoke as his team nodded.
"Tenzo, can you get four tents ready,"
The ANBU named Tenzo nodded as he walked up to a clearing, and went through a set of hand signs before slamming his palm on the floor.
"Wood Style: Four Pillar Home"
The ANBU spoke as four nicely built houses of wood formed in the area as the man nodded ignoring the dumbfounded looks on the genin's faces.
"Wait, wasn't the Wood Style used by the Shodai Hokage-sama, are you a Senju?"
Ren spoke with surprise on his face as Tenzo just shrugged before he nodded towards Kakashi and Shirou before leaping towards one of the trees to keep watch.
"He is not a Senju, and how he uses Wood Style is his secret Ren, I mean I could tell you but then I'd have to kill you since it's a S-Class secret!"
Shirou chuckled as Ren vehemently shook his head. Naruto shrugged as he walked up to the Dog masked ANBU.
"You wanna train, it's been long since we have sparred!"
The blonde spoke with some enthusiasm in his voice as the Dog masked ANBU gave a smirk behind his mark before he turned towards the Uchiha clan head who just shrugged.
"Why not, I'd say all three of you can try to take on him at once, it should be a good exercise to face someone other than me for once!"
The Team 11 sensei spoke as the boys nodded looking at the Dog masked ANBU.
"Perfect, the rules are simple, Team 11 aims to kill or he will wipe the floor with you and Dog keeps himself under restraint, I do not want to find a healer before the start of the mission!"
The three boys nodded as they took their stance before Naruto and Ren rushed towards the ANBU in unison.
The blonde tried to rush in with a kick which was easily deflected before the silver-haired operative easily caught Ren's upcoming fist launching him at Naruto as the two boys collided with each other before dissipating in a poof of smoke.
Dog barely avoided the incoming slash as he backstepped as Ren's water blade missed him by an inch. Naruto tried to take advantage as he tried to land another punch on the shinobi's jaw but it was once again deflected as the man used his elbow to defend the strike before pushing the blonde back with a palm thrust of his own.
He had little time to avoid before he was bombarded by a flurry of rock shards flung towards him as Dog stepped back and went through hand signs at a breathtaking speed.
"Earth Style: Earth Wall"
A huge wall of rock erupted from the ground easily blocking the incoming shards. However, Dog did not expect Naruto to burst through the wall with sparks around his fist as he tried to land another blow. The ANBU however was too quick to react as Naruto's fist impacted with the floor leaving a small crater.
However, before Naruto could get back, Dog was right onto him as he kicked him hard in the jaw, sending him crashing into a tree as the blonde let out a groan on impact, before standing back to his feet as he dusted himself.
Ren tried to catch the ANBU off guard as he tried to slash at him once again but it was deflected by a kunai out of nowhere. However before Dog could land a hit the red-haired genin found himself substituted with Shino who took the impact of the blow on his chest and shrugged.
"Hmm that stung, Aburame Clan Hidden Technique: Insect Sphere"
The hooded genin spoke as Dog was enveloped in a sphere of bugs before Dog tore through it using brute force.
"Man these kids have good teamwork, you sure you started training them two weeks ago Shirou-senpai!"
Boar chuckled as the Uchiha clan head gave him a smirk.
"I guess they are somewhat talented!"
Naruto meanwhile tried to take advantage of the off guard shinobi as Shino provided him a platform to jump higher.
"Shadow Clones"
Naruto created five clones as all of them rushed towards Dog who easily parried all their attacks with ease before slamming the last one in his gut causing it to explode sending the ANBU a few steps backwards.
"Exploding Clones huh, I guess you have trained well in the recent months Naruto-kun!"
"It's not me who you should be worrying about Dog-san!"
Naruto spoke as Ren appeared in Dog's blindspot going through his own set of hand signs.
"Water Style: Cannon Beam"
"Lightning Style: Electric Overdose"
The two genin spoke in unison as they tried to pincer Dog between their attacks, the ANBU tried to move from his spot but found himself struck to the ground as two rock solid traps held him in his place.
'Shit!'
Dog thought to himself before he found himself on the receiving end of the two techniques causing a blast as Naruto and Ren jumped back towards Shino who created a stone wall to shield them from the impact.
"Did we get him?"
Ren spoke as Naruto just gave a frown.
"I'm surprised if you believe me managed to get an ANBU down with two chunin level techniques,"
"Correct!"
Dog spoke as he appeared behind the three genin before slamming Shino into the rock wall he had created to block the impact. Ren too found himself smashed against a tree with no clue of what just struck him.
"I'm surprised that you three managed to catch me off guard with that, I guess you guys are good but it's time to end this before you start getting ideas!"
Dog spoke as kicked Naruto in the gut before kneeing the blonde in the face that sent him tumbling over. The three genin slowly got to their feet as they looked at each other and nodded.
The three quickly surrounded Dog as Ren initiated with a slash using his water blade that was deflected using a kunai. Shino tried to get a hit in with his fist encased in rock but Dog was a step ahead as he stepped aside and tried to turn the kid towards Naruto who used the hooded genin as a platform and jumped up with his first charged with sparks but was blocked by a kick to his gut.
The three however, not deterred by their failed attempt tried to attack Dog at once but their attacks hit nothing before Dog moved out of the way using a substitution.
"Fire Style: Flame Wave"
Dog unleashed a huge wave of wire as Naruto jumped out of the way as Ren quickly tried to counter using a technique of his own as he unleashed another powerful stream of water, the two techniques collided with each other as they created steam on impact. Shino tried to take advantage in hopes of catching Dog off-guard as he launched another wave of rock shards but was surprised when Dog was nowhere to be seen.
However, before the hooded genin could react he found himself slumping down on the floor as Dog swifty appeared behind him to knock him out with the back of his kunai.
"If this was a fight, one of you would have already died!"
Dog spoke with a little bit of anger in his voice as Ren growed rushing towards Dog forming two blood blades in his hands.
"Blood Style: Extended Blades"
Ren tried to slash at Dog but the silver-haired ANBU easily avoided the haywire strikes before landing a solid uppercut that knocked the red-hair out cold.
"And that's two!"
Naruto looked at his collapsed teammates and let out a sigh.
"I know when I've lost!"
The blonde spoke with a frown as he raised his hands in surrender before helping teammates get back to their feet.
"You guys are decent, I could see you holding back a little but that is going to get you killed, and you need to keep your emotions in check kid, you can't be aggravated by a little taunt!"
Dog said pointing Ren out who shook his head in shame before giving Dog a nod.
"Well I hope you three have figured out that you have a long way to go, get to your tent and think about how you performed and what you could have done to improve,"
Shirou spoke as he walked up to the four, the genins nodded as they gave the ANBU and the Uchiha clan a bow before walking towards the wooden house in the centre.
"So what's your verdict!"
Shirou said as he looked at Dog who removed his mark and placed it on his belt revealing the ANBU to be Kakashi.
"Well they aren't half-bad, surely chunin level that's for sure but they still need a lot of improvements, their teamwork seems to be great, they can operate on just glances which is something commendable, other than that I was surprised to see them use elemental techniques adobe their grade. However, the inexperience was visible in their mastery of the said techniques!"
Kakashi spoke with a thoughtful expression on his face as Shirou nodded.
"You summed it up pretty well I guess, I'll let your team have a go one by one other than Tenzo before we reach the Hidden Mist border, we should be their in three days with the pace we are travelling at the moment,"
Team Ro members snickered as they thought of ways they could torture, I mean train with the genins. Right now this was a fresh breath of air compared to their usual missions, who knew training brats was this fun!
{SCENE BREAK}
For the next three days, the two teams followed the same pattern as they travelled during the day and made a rest in the evening with different members of Team Ro deciding to stay on patrol to keep an eye for any approaching threat.
The three genin were slowly and steadily learning a lot about how Team Ro operated during fights. Team 11 had even managed to corner Boar the last day but then the big man managed to brute force his way through the three showing them they still had a long way to go.
"We will be approaching the Hidden Mist borders, I want all of you to be on guard!"
Shirou spoke as he looked at his three genins who shook their heads in approval.
The mist around the area was quite thick which was making it hard to see, Shino was using Tremor Sensing constantly to keep an eye on any additional chakra presence in the area while maintaining some of his insects around to keep his team on guard around the mist.
The boy looked tired and almost collapsed before he was caught by Naruto who looked at him with a concerned look on his face, as he helped the hooded genin get back to his feet.
"If you do not want to pop chakra pills, you can get your bugs to absorb some of my chakra!"
Naruto offered Shino who looked at the blonde with a grateful expression on his face before shaking his head in denial.
"We are almost there, you need to preserve your chakra in case something happens!"
"I hate to be that guy, but I think you jinxed us Shino!"
Ren mumbled as Naruto glared at his red-haired teammate.
The three were interrupted mid conversation as Dog appeared next to Shirou in a shunshin informing him of something in sign language.
"Shino, I suggest you take up on Naruto's offer because as it stands, I believe we are going to have company very soon!"
The Uchiha clan head spoke with a frown on his face as Dog signalled his team to stand on alert.
The Leaf shinobi continued to walk ahead as they reached the desired destination where the exchange was supposed to take place.
A few seconds later a tall pale man wrapped in bandages walked out of the shadows holding a brunette in his grasp.
"Sorry to spoil your reunion tree-huggers but I think you have something of key importance!"
The figure spoke with a smirk on his face as he tossed the brunette towards Shirou's feet.
"Zabuza Momochi, dubbed as the Demon of the Mist, the wielder of the infamous Executioner's Blade, what a surprise!"
Shirou greeted the bandaged man with a frown on his face as the three genin quickly went on standy-by ready to spring into action at command.
"Now now, there is no need to be hasty, I'm not here to fight, well not right now, I think you have something of key importance and I would not want our allies to die at the hands of my dear blade, even though I doubt my chances against Leaf's Black Thunder, Shirou Uchiha!"
Zabuza spoke with a smirk on his face.
"I'd believe you if your partners wouldn't be hiding behind that mist Zabuza-san,"
Shirou spoke with a frown as Zabuza just gave him a chuckle in return.
"Ahh I did not expect the jig to be out so soon, well I guess there is no way of avoiding it when you have a Hyuga's eyes looking at things!"
Zabuza smirked as he used the Executioner's Blade to point towards the tree Team Ro was positioned at, causing them to tense.
While it wasn't a surprise that the man had figured out their position, what was a huge shock was Zabuza knew the identity of one of their members. There had been a leak somewhere that they did not know about, and that rang a lot of alarm bells around Kakashi's head.
Shirou signalled Team Ro, as the team led by Dog appeared next to the jounin in a blur.
"How the fuck do you know about me?"
Hawk growled as Zabuza looked at him with a smirk on his face.
"Well you Leaf ninjas are not so good at hiding secrets, I mean I gave that guy to my friend and you'd be surprised how good he sang!"
Zabuza spoke as he pointed towards the deceased brunette.
"You do not gain nothing from killing our agent, as per our intel you are one of the rebels against Sandaime Mizukage. I fail to understand what your endgame is!"
Shirou calmly spoke as Zabuza just looked at him with a relaxed expression on his face as he slung his sword on his shoulders.
The shinobi were interrupted as two more figures walked out as they joined Zabuza who looked at the Leaf ninja's with a smirk on his face.
"You know, we aren't known as the Bloody Mist for nothing, we have our own traditions of welcoming our allies!"
"You talk too much Zabuza, Samaheda is really looking for some chakra and watching you talk is making it irritated!"
"Let him talk Kisame-senpai, we should avoid any unnecessary confrontation,"
Shirou looked at the two new figures that had joined Zabuza and sighed. This was supposed to be a simple C-Rank mission, how did his team encounter not one but three borderline S-Rank shinobi all at once.
He knew the actual mission was far from C-Rank but meeting the messenger was supposed to be simple, but now that Zabuza had killed the guy, things were going to be a pain in the arse.
"Just my luck, not only we encounter Zabuza Momochi, but we also have the 'Monster of the Mist' Kisame Hoshigaki and 'The Second coming of the Demon' Mangetsu Hozuki!"
Ren grumbled as he looked at Shino whispering about jinxing stuff as the hooded genin facepalmed.
"You see that Hozuki, the brat knows about us, I did not know kids knew about us so well!"
Kisame let out a laugh as he looked at Ren with an amused expression on his face.
"If we are done, can I know the reason why three of the 'Seven Swordsmen of the Mist' are here to intercept my team's mission!"
"Well Uchiha-san, we were sent here by Mei-sama but we encountered your agent on our way, and Kisame-senpai over…"
"Now now Hozuki, I don't think they are interested in what happened here. But yeah as the brat told you we are here on Mei's command but to be honest Samaheda is really interested in your chakra, so why not I present you with your welcoming gift!"
The shark-faced swordsman chuckled as he dashed towards Shirou aimed to strike but was interrupted by Dog who blocked the strike with his tanto.
"Mangetsu, take care of the brats, I'll go and assist Kisame!"
Zabuza spoke with a smirk as he charged towards the ongoing fight as Mangetsu let out a sigh.
"Why do I have to be paired with two of the biggest battle freaks! But then again I guess I could let loose a little, promise that I will keep you half dead, after all we can't have more Leaf ninja dying on us,"
Mangetsu gave the three genins a blood thirsty grin as Naurto and Ren took position prepared for an attack from the swordsmen. However, they were surprised when the white-haired swordsman just out a chuckle.
"You should have seen your faces, I mean you were prepared to go head to head with your death, that's something. Sadly, I don't think I do not have enough time on my hands, Mei-sama sent me to keep these two in check but from the looks of it, it doesn't seem to be working!"
Mangetsu spoke as Cat and Dog together blocked Kisame's Samaheda strike with their swords. The man's strength was seeming to be too much for the masked Shinobi, with Cat having to reinforce her captain to push the blue-skinned shinobi.
"I think I should stop this before things get out of hand!"
Mangetsu chuckled as he dashed towards Kisame before slashing at him with his twin swords. The shark-skinned shinobi grumbled as he looked at his fellow teammate in annoyance.
"You better have a good reason for interrupting me, Hozuki!"
"Well, since you aren't aware of your surroundings during a fight, I helped Zabuza-san avoid becoming a fillet,"
Mangetsu chuckled as he pointed at Shirou who had made quick work of Zabuza who was now lying down on the floor with the Uchiha clan head aiming his sword at his jaw.
"Tch, some demon of the mist!"
Kisame grumbled as he pulled his sword away from the two ANBU shinobi who let out a sigh not realising how hard it was holding Kisame back.
"Hmm, since things have calmed down over here, I believe it's time we meet your esteemed leader,"
{End of Chapter V}
Damn I took a long time to finish this chapter. Honestly I rewrote this a couple of times because of some dissatisfaction with how things were panning out. I'm sorry if this feels like a weak chapter, I'm a little weak when it comes to fillers, just treat this as a bridge. I was packed with a lot of work and with Christmas coming up, people around me are enjoying holidays leaving me with a lot of work.
I hope I can come out with a new chapter before the end of the year, if not I'll try to get it out in the first week of January. Thanks for being here and having a read, I'm glad people are somewhat enjoying the story.
