Ginny kissed Harry goodbye. "How long?" she asked.
"1 month," he told her, leaning down to hug Teddy. "Then I'll be back." It was currently October of 2000. Ginny nodded, kissed him softly and watched as he left through the fire.
It was 3 weeks later and their mission was almost complete. Harry set up the tent since Michael didn't know how. He was only 19 and had just finished in the Auror Academy. Michael Bovent was in Ginny's year. Since his mother was a muggle-born and his father was a muggle, his family went into hiding for his 6th year. Through a bunch of self-study, he had gotten his N.E. the summer after the war and entered the Auror Academy at 17, while Harry was expedited through. He was now Harry's trainee.
They met at the campfire with the other aurors on the mission. There were 5, not including them. 2 other pairs and the Head Auror. "Alright," Reeves said from in front of the fire, "we'll move into the DE's camp at dawn. So, get some sleep. We won't set a guard tonight."
This didn't sit right with Harry or Michael. "Sir," Harry said, "we should at least set wards, right? Just in case they stumble on us or maybe some hiking muggles?"
"We're more than 10 kilometres away from the nearest muggle village and you want to set up wards for them to stumble into?" the Head Auror asked.
"Wouldn't it be better," Bovent said, "to set up the wards so that if they do stumble on them, regardless of if its because of the wards, we know about it?"
"Have you seen any DEs nearby, Bovent?"
"No, sir," Bovent answered. "But that doesn't mean..."
"Then that settles it," the Head interrupted. "Bed, now."
"Is he trying to get us killed?" Rebecca Proudfoot hissed as they went to their tents.
"Seems like it," Harry murmured back. He entered the two person tent with Bovent.
He woke up a few hours later to find smoke around them before he could do anything, he passed out again.
When he regained consciousness, he was lying on the ground. Looking around, he stayed down and saw his entire team there as well. Harry could feel his hands bound in front of him and slowly sat up, vaguely registering the lingering effects of the cruciatus that was probably holding the other aurors in an unconscious state. He went around checking their heartbeats and breathing, relieved to find them all alive.
It was a week later when they really got to see their captors. Several Death Eaters came in. "Potter," one snarled.
Harry smirked back, cocked his head and said sweetly, "Bertram, nice to see you again. Off in Germany, weren't you, when your Master fell? Oh, and John as well. Well, are you two leading it or is it Josephine and Vincent?" he looked behind them.
"Crucio!" several of the Death Eaters yelled. Harry just stood there, caught in two cruciatuses. A few minutes later, they stormed out in anger, first having tortured a few more of the aurors, none of whom were able to withstand it and yelling for answers as to where Voldemort was.
Harry answered, "Dead."
"Wrong, Potter," Bertram Aubrey snarled, "the Dark Lord put protections in place against that."
"Believe what you will, but I got rid of them," Harry shrugged. The Death Eaters got frustrated. Harry almost immediately collapsed to the ground in exhaustion.
"How did you stay up?" Riya asked.
"I built up tolerance against the pain," Harry said. "Between my scar hurting whenever Voldemort got angry and Bellatrix's curses, it wasn't all that difficult." He worked his way back up. "So, what's the plan to get out of here?" he looked at Reeves.
"There isn't one," he answered. "We're stuck. Magic doesn't work down here and we can't use our hands and they come in randomly. Just get comfortable. They'll kill us eventually." He layed down and closed his eyes.
"He just wants us to wait for them to kill us?" Rebecca hissed.
"I guess," Michael sighed. "Let's give him a few days, but I want to get out of here and go home."
Norman huffed. "What is up with him?"
"I don't know Williamson, but get some rest," Timothy Hale hissed. "We don't know when they'll be back."
"Wasn't that our mistake before?" Riya asked. "Not keeping eyes out? I'll at least take a watch for tonight and we'll trade off. At the very minimum, I can wake you up if they're coming." They agreed and went to sleep.
