Intro

He was 5 when he lost his sight

Kacchan was doing his usual bullying routine. Punches and kicks, and when Izuku was good and bloodied up, Kacchan started with the fire

So, so, much hot, explosive fire

During one particularly nasty beating, Kacchan aimed an explosion at Izuku's face. What he didn't expect was for Izuku to accidentally look directly into the blast

"AHHHH!" Izuku cried out in pain. He clutched his now bleeding eyes and fell to his knees

Kacchan laughed with his cronies, not realizing what had happened

"You're such a useless deku! There's no way you'll ever become a hero without a quirk. Might as well give up now!"

Kacchan sneered. His cronies snickered and they all turned and walked away from the curled up boy on the pavement

Izuku could tell when they were out of earshot. When he knew they could not hear him, he wailed

He screamed, cried, clutched his bleeding eyes

Eventually one of the teachers that actually cared about him found him and helped calm him down. She called an ambulance and took him to her office.

When they reached the hospital, Inko was already there

Izuku was taken into surgery while his mother cried

No matter how hard the hospital tried, they could not give Izuku his sight back

No matter how many healing quirks, no matter how many surgeries, the hospital could not help him.

Izuku was still blind

After a two weeks, Izuku was released and Inko tried anything and everything to get his sight back

Different states, different doctors, no different results

Izuku was blind, and he would be for the rest of his life

Chapter one

It's been five years since he last saw Kacchan

Five years since he last saw anyone, really

In the months after the incident, Izuku's mother tried as many doctors as she could

Nothing worked. Not the healing quirks, not the surgeries

Inko finally accepted the fact that Izuku was blind when the last doctor they went to flat out said "There's nothing we can do. Your son is blind. He will be forever."

On the way home, Inko cried

When Izuku first became blind, Inko sent him to a different school that taught him everything he needed to know, including how to read braille

She also got him a phone with all the disability settings

When he was eight, and he knew everything the school could teach him, Inko allowed him to go to a normal school. It wasn't Masegaki Primary School, which was Izuku's original school but it was good enough.

But a new school didn't mean no bullies

They liked to play cruel jokes on him like telling him they hid his phone when it was laying on his desk

Everyday he walked home alone. He knew where he lived, and he knew which way to go

It was strange, yes, but it worked. Somehow, he knew where he was without being able to see

He didn't think much of it though. Everyone (including Izuku) just assumed just assumed he knew the route well enough to not get lost

When he was 10, Izuku decided he still wanted to be a hero, blindness be damned

Despite being blind, and despite being quirkless, he would do it. He would become a hero, and a damn good one at that
