'What the hell happened? Are you ok?'

Harvey shot out of his chair when he saw Donna in front of him, her usually perfect hair damp and matted. A dark stain spattered her pink Prada coat and Harvey found himself begging a god he didn't believe in that it wasn't her blood, that she wasn't hurt. The way she bit her bottom lip told him she was trying not to cry, and he felt a surge of anger at whoever had done this to her.

She couldn't hear what he was saying, she could only see his mouth moving and even then, it was as if he was speaking in slow motion. The entire room seemed to be spinning- or was it her? All she could feel was pure terror coursing through her veins, her heart pumping loudly in her ears and drowning out any other sound. Though it was relatively dark in Harvey's office due to the late hour, the small lamp at his desk shone a blinding light directly into Donna' eyes, overwhelming her even more.

Harvey placed a hand on her arm, looking at the bright red handprint on her cheek that contrasted so starkly with the pale pallor of her face. Her eyes filled with tears as he took in the finger marks on her arm and the terrified expression on her face.

'Come here.'

He pulled her into a tight hug, but she didn't respond to it.

'Donna?'

She didn't say a word, instead she stared into his eyes and silently begged him to help her. It was only then that he really noticed how her chest was heaving with the effort of taking breathing in and out and the way her entire body seemed to be shaking. She swayed on her feet again and he steadied her by gently holding onto both of her arms, guiding her over to sit on the sofa.

'Donna, I need you to breathe.' He placed a hand on her back and traced circular motions across it, trying to calm her down. 'Just copy me.'

At first she struggled, shaking her head, almost certain that she was completely out of control- that she was going to die. However, eventually she managed to copy Harvey's exaggerated breathing enough that her head began to clear and her breaths were less shallow, although still erratic and slightly too fast. She buried herself in Harvey's chest and felt his arms wrap around her in a soothing embrace as though he were physically holding her together.

'Oh god, oh god,' she whispered over and over, still semi-convinced that it was all just a really bad dream, one that Harvey could wake her up from. Her body has stopped shaking now, but her hands were still jittery and she had to sit on them to get them to stop.

After a few minutes of sitting on the sofa together, Harvey gently pulled away and guided Donna's face with his fingertips to face him.

'What happened?'

He had a sinking suspicion that he knew roughly what had happened, but he needed to hear it from Donna.

'After Jessica went home, there was an alley and there were two men and they pulled me down it and-'

She started hyperventilating again, standing up off the sofa and pacing the room, mimicking her actions from before when Harvey had told her that Stephen had escaped.

'Donna, it's ok, you're safe. Just tell me what happened.'

'It's not ok though, is it?' she screamed suddenly, her anxiety and panic erupting in rage. 'It's not ok, Harvey, and I'm not safe! God, they had a gun for Christ's sake. A freaking gun, Harvey! I'm not safe and you're not safe, not while that madman is roaming the streets! He knows where I live, he knows where the firm is, he knows where I do my shopping and where we go for drinks on a Friday night. It's not safe, Harvey, and I'm scared.'

She whispered the last part of that sentence, her shoulders sagging as she allowed herself to shed the first tear that night. She leant over Harvey's desk, hiding her face from him as she sobbed. Wordlessly, he stepped over to her and hugged her, wiping the tears off her face and gently kissing the top of her forehead.

'You are going to be ok, Donna. I promised you that a long time ago, and I'm not going to break that promise. I won't let anything happen to you. Did they hurt you?'

She shook her head. 'No, I fought them off.'

'Good girl.' He squeezed her tightly, thankful that she wasn't injured.

Neither of them were sure how long they spent standing like that, but eventually Harvey led Donna out of the office and took her back to his condo, giving her one of his t-shirts to wear which came halfway down her thighs. They fell asleep together in Harvey's bed, Donna in his arms where she felt safe. Though he pretended it was for her benefit, the truth of the matter was he knew he wouldn't let her out of his sight until Huntley was rotting in a cell where he belonged. It took them both a long time to fall asleep, but eventually Donna did, leaving Harvey lying awake and staring at the ceiling and plotting how to take him down.
