Author's Note:

I don't own the Patty Duke Show, or any of it's characters. This story is my own and original, but the full idea for it is not, as it is a missing scene from Season 1, episode, The Slumber Party. I suggest watching it, (its one of my favs) but it's not necessary.

So, here is a quick recap of the episode, in case you haven't seen it or have forgotten what happened:

Ross recorded Patty and Cathy talking to their friends, and used what they said to blackmail them into doing whatever he wanted. So the girls found the recorder, and taped Ross talking about how he had their parents wrapped around his finger, and could get them to do whatever he wanted. The girls were going to use that to get even with him, but then their father (who had no idea of any of this) told them that Ross might be feeling left out, as he hadn't been getting enough attention lately. Cathy and Patty apparently decided not to blackmail him back, and the next scene of the show was Ross at a cookout with his friends… So I added a little missing scene that connected the two together. Because Patty and Cathy needed just a tiny bit of revenge after all of that!

Thank you iloveromance for betaing :)

Patty's Spa

by SunshineOfThe60s

Cathy walked over to the desk, and got out the tape recorder, "So we should erase this tape?"

Patty leapt up from her seat on the bed, "No! No, not yet…"

"But I thought you agreed that Uncle Martin made a very good point."

Patty nodded, "I know it. But we can't let that little rat get away with this. For 4 days he bossed us around. We shined his shoes, waited on him hand and foot, made sandwiches… It's payback time, just for the rest of today."

Cathy hesitated, then agreed, "Just for today."

"Right." A smile broke out on Patty's face, "Cousin, I have the perfect idea."

"Oh? What is it?"

"Welcome to Patty and Cathy's Spa!"

Patty rushed out, and Cathy followed, "Patty and Cathy's Spa? Patty, what are you doing?"

"I'm finding our little beautician."

Cathy stopped on the stairway, confused at what her cousin was up to, "Patty, Ross can't style hair, what-"

Patty turned around. "I know it, but he could probably paint nails, and if not that, he could give foot rubs."

"I see…" Cathy finally got a small smirk on her lips, "So we are going to invite our friends over?"

"Right. You can start calling them up, and I'll go tell Ross what his new career is."

Cathy went back upstairs to start inviting their friends, and Patty caught up with Ross on the front lawn. "Brother dear! Not so fast."

Ross sighed, and turned around. "Yeah?"

"You say 'yes ma'am'! Now, Cathy is busy inviting all of our friends over, and guess what you're going to do?"

He hesitated, "I don't like the sound of that… Ma'am."

"Oh you will. You see, Cathy and I are opening up a spa, and guess who is going to give manicures and foot rubs?"

Ross's mouth dropped open, "No!"

"Yes!"

Ross pleaded, "Please, anything but that. I'll do anything else."

Patty hesitated, but only a moment. "Ok, you can play the tape for Mom and Poppo."

Ross kicked at the ground, "How many girls?"

"Let's see, there's me, Cathy, Alice, Mary, and-"

"Patty! I'll be painting nails all day! I can't even paint that good-"

"Oh yes you can, if you put your mind to it."

Ross retreated back inside, and Patty watched him go. She couldn't help but feel a bit of sympathy. She did know what it felt like. Patty hurried back inside, and found Cathy at the phone in their bedroom.

"Who did you call?"

"Alice, and she couldn't come."

"Perfect, who are you talking to now?"

"Gloria, her mother is calling her to the phone."

"Well, don't invite her. I'll tell you why when you get off."

Cathy nodded, and said, "Hello, Gloria?" … "I… I was wondering if you remembered what pages our history teacher told us to study. Patty and I have forgotten." … … "42-50? Thank you Gloria. Goodbye!" After handing up, she glanced at Patty, curious, "You changed your mind?"

"Well, the poor kid looked so sad… I figured just us would be enough."

Cathy grinned, "Good. I was hoping so."

"C'mon, we need to pick out what shade of polish we want." Patty said.

"I believe I would prefer the light pink," Cathy replied as she followed Patty to the bathroom, "what were you thinking?"

Patty pulled open the drawer that held jewelry, polish, etc, and glanced over the colors, "I think I'll have the pink also," she took the bottle out, and said, "and I'll have him paint my toes too."

Cathy raised her eyebrows, "Paint your toes? Why, who would see them? It's much too cold outside to wear sandals."

"I don't know, I would. Come on, lets go find our temporary servant."

"I will start preparing our spa in here."

Patty nodded. "Sure, be right back!"

Ross was in his room, dreading this spa game Patty cooked up. Boy, she knew just how to fight back… "Brother dear, we're all set up in our room."

"Patty, I was thinking, how about I give you all my money if you erase the tape?"

Patty snapped her fingers, and grabbed the piggy bank. "Thanks for reminding me. This is our allowance!"

Ross sighed, "Oh, right…"

"Now come on." Patty grabbed his arm, and led him to their room.

He noted the two chairs that Cathy set up, and asked, "Is it just you two?"

Patty smirked a bit, "Are you crazy?" She plopped down in the first chair, "I think we'll start with the foot rub, right Cath?"

Cathy sat down also, "That would suit me."

As Ross was massaging his sister's feet, he thought back on the 4 days he had Patty and Cathy in slavery. He regretted blackmailing them, and he realized shouldn't have taped their slumber party. He was getting just what he deserved… About 5 minutes later, Patty fibbed, "You better start on Cathy now, Ross, all those other girls are on their way."

While Patty watched her cousin get a foot rub, she thought over something. If she remembered right, that night of her slumber party Ross had mentioned having a cookout. He got turned down for the next two Saturdays, but she didn't see why this Sunday couldn't work. A smile played on her lips while she started mentally planning the whole party. They'd have hot dogs and chili, Ross loves that combination…

Cathy's voice interrupted her daydream, "Patty, are you ready for your nails to be painted?"

"Oh, uh, yeah sure. That pink bottle on the dresser, Ross."

About 15 minutes later, Ross had finished with the both of them, and was beginning to wonder why no one else had shown up, "Patty, Cathy… I thought your friends would be here by now."

Cathy smiled, "Oh, didn't we tell you? They couldn't make it…"

"All of them?"

"Well, a few we forgot to invite." Patty added.

He was slightly confused at what they were up to, and almost didn't want to know, "But-"

Patty interrupted. "I came up with something else for you to do. And you must do it, or else."

"What now?"

She reminded, "Ma'am…"

"Yes ma'am…"

"You have to make out a list of 5 of your very best friends and their telephone numbers, and bring it to us."

"Why?"

"Don't ask questions, just do it!"

Wondering what the two girls had up their sleeves now, he trudged to his room, and started a list.

Cathy whispered, leaning in, "Patty, what are you doing?"

Patty, mischievous twinkle behind her eyes, replied, "Remember that cookout Ross asked for that night we had our party?"

"Yes."

"Well, I'm going to throw one for him, this Sunday."

"Shouldn't we ask Aunt Natalie's permission?"

"Oh right, I forgot… Hey! That gives me an idea!" Patty got up, and got the tape recorder, "Let's give Ross a scare!"

Patty whispered her plan to Cathy, who agreed. They finished their surprise by the time Ross came out of his room. He distrustfully handed Patty the list of his friends.

"Thanks little bro. Now come on."

"Where?" He watched as Cathy got out the tape recorder, and he fearfully asked, "What are you going to do with that?"

Patty grabbed Ross's hand, and trailed after Cathy down the steps to the living room, "Uncle Martin? Aunt Natalie? There is something we think you should hear."

Ross yelped, "No! Please!"

Before the two confused parents could question Ross's behavior, Cathy pressed the 'play' button on the recorder. Patty's voice came through in a whisper, but clearly, "Hi Mom, Poppo. Cath and I were thinking… We had a slumber party a few days ago, and we agreed it'd be fair if Ross had one too. Well, not a slumber party, but a cookout."

Patty glanced down at Ross, who was staring at her in bewilderment. She let go of his arm, and offered a little smile.

The recorder continued, "Cath and I could host it, I'd make the hotdogs and chili. Ross made out a list of 5 friends already, so all we'd have to do is call them.. So, does Sunday work? We hope so, because we'd really like to do this for Ross. He's a great little brother… Well, most of the time anyway." The tape ended, and Natalie and Martian looked at the girls.

"This is very nice," Natalie said.

Martin gave a knowing wink to the girls, "I don't see why we can't have a cookout this Sunday. Natalie?"

She agreed, "Of course, I should have thought of Sunday myself. About five o'clock would work."

Patty and Cathy grinned, "Great!" Patty said, running up the stairs, "Come on Ross, we have to call your friends now!"

Back upstairs, Ross simply couldn't understand what was happening. They had him cornered, they had a chance to get even, big time. Why weren't they?

Pausing outside of their door, Ross kicked at the carpet with his shoe, "Patty? Cath?"

The two girls turned around, and Cathy answered, "Yes Ross?"

"What's the catch?"

"There's no catch," Patty replied.

"Well, why are you doing it? After I was so mean to you two?"

Cathy thought a moment before replying, "We knew how it feels to be ordered about…"

"And we knew you were blackmailing us for attention. It's not the easiest being the youngest," Patty added, "and we just want to show you how much we really, well… Love you and appreciate you."

Ross stared at her… He didn't know Patty understood him, let alone loved and appreciated him. She must really mean that too, if she was willing to forgive him for the past days, and set up a cookout… Feeling the corners of his eyes start to get wet, he suddenly bolted from the room.

Cathy looked at Patty, "Do you think he was..?"

"Crying? You bet…" She suddenly looked at the list Ross wrote, "I'll start calling his friends. Boy, Sunday is going to be one fun day!" She paused, phone halfway to her ear, "You know cuz, I think it will be even more fun then having a servant for a week."

Cathy warmly smiled, "I know it will."
