Disclaimer: I don't own Rosario + Vampire.
December had arrived in the Monster World.
There were not many hints at Yokai Academy of what holiday was arriving. The school appeared to be the same as it was throughout the whole year; the same buildings and the same grounds, filled with the same students who were in fact the same monsters as always. Business was going on as usual at the institution for educating young fantastical beasts.
The only thing that was different was the room where the Newspaper Club regularly gathered. The members had just entered to have their meeting - but had found a big surprise awaiting them…
"Merry Christmas, Newspaper Club! Meow!"
Miss Nekonome had to shout for her cheerful voice to be heard over the festive music which filled the room. The smile on her face was as bright as the red dress which she was wearing. She cheerfully took in how stunned the club members were. They were surrounded by colourful lights and decorations with a large Christmas tree towering over them.
"I hope you enjoy this party I've put on for you kids!" Miss Nekonome said brightly to her favourite students. "Meow!"
"Oh, Miss Nekonome!" Moka exclaimed. "You didn't have to do this for us!"
"Sure I did! Christmas only comes once a year - and you guys deserve to enjoy yourselves after all the hard work you do to report all the happenings going in at the school!"
Tsukune chuckled as a sweat drop ran down the side of his head. Writing up stories for the school newspaper was the easiest thing he and his friends had to do. It was all the crazy going-ons they faced which was tough for them.
"Wow! Thanks, Miss Nekonome!" Yukari squealed. "You're the best teacher at the school!"
"Aww! Think nothing of it!" Miss Nekonome modestly waved off the compliment before turning her attention towards the table which she had filled with party food. "Now where did I put those fish? Meow!"
The Newspaper Club exchanged glances at one another. They had certainly been surprised when they had walked into their meeting spot to find it had been turned into a party room. It looked like they were not going to be discussing any stories to write up - for they were going to be enjoying themselves and having fun instead.
"Yahoo-hoo!" Kurumu cheered elatedly "What are we waiting for? Let's get this party started!"
"Bring it on…" Mizore added in a low voice.
"Ho ho ho!"
"Merry Christmas, everyone!"
The group turned towards the door upon hearing someone walk through it. They were all bemused to see two figures enter the room. Both were dressed in red cloaks ans one of them wearing a red cloak and carrying a large brown sack.
"Gin?!" Kurumu cried, astounded to see their club president dressed as Santa Claus.
"Ruby!" Yukari added upon seeing her fellow witch looking like Mrs Claus.
"Hey, guys!" Ginei grinned at his friends as he walked over to the Christmas tree. He placed down the sack to reveal it was filled with brightly-wrapped presents. "Just here to drop off some gifts to this party!"
"Wow!" Moka cried. "Thanks, Gin!"
"Don't thank me!" Ginei gestured to the witch who had entered the room with him. "Thank Ruby! She was the one who was able to get all these gifts! I'm just delivering them!"
Tsukune's eyes widened as he observed the boxes in Ginei's sack which had been covered in colourful paper and ribbons. "Where did you get all those gifts, Ruby?"
"Well…" Ruby smiled and shrugged. "It's a long story…"
Kurumu made a face at the answer Ruby always gave whenever she was asked a question. Then she walked over to the tree, looking all over it to take in its twinkling lights and shiny ornaments.
"You know what's the only thing which would make this Christmas tree look complete?" she remarked, smirking. "If we were to put Yukari on the top!"
"What?!" Yukari squeaked with a disgusted shake of her head. "No way! I'm not going on top of the tree! I'm a witch, not a fairy!"
"Oh come on! Where's your Christmas spirit?!" Kurumu nudged the petite magic maker. "You're just the right size to go on there!"
Yukari pouted - then shivered as she felt a chill in the air. "Is it me - or did it suddenly get cold in here?!"
"You're right. It's suddenly freezing here. Brrr!"
As Kurumu wrapped her arms around herself, she noticed small white flakes falling down to land in her blue hair. She frowned, wondering why it was snowing inside the meeting room - before letting out a startled cry as a huge shard of ice burst out of the floor before her. She jumped back from it with fright. Quickly, she grabbed Yukari's hand, intending to get them both away from it…
…only to find the pair of them trapped as more large ice shards surrounded them, trapping the pair within.
"Mizore!" Kurumu yelled, knowing perfectly well who was behind this. "What are you playing at? What's the meaning of this?"
"Just setting the mood for this party." The ice-manipulating monster smiled proudly. "We all love a white Christmas, huh?"
"Yeah…" Yukari agreed with a huff. "But we don't really need one indoors!"
"Get me outta here right now!" Kurumu demanded dramatically. "I swear, Mizore, when I get my claws into you…"
From the far end of the room, Tsukune and Moka watched as their fellow members of the Newspaper Club bickered with one another as heatedly as usual.
"Well…" Tsukune chuckled. "It seems like they are having a good time at this party!"
"And so am I!" Moka said sincerely, closing her eyes with a smile. "I love Christmas."
"So do I… I've always loved Christmas back at my home in the human world…" Tsukune commented. "And yet, this is the best Christmas I could ask for."
"It is?" Moka opened her eyes. "Why is that, Tsukune?"
Tsukune turned to the beautiful vampire by his side. The smile on his face softened as she took in how wonderful she looked. Moka was far more beautiful than any Christmas tree or decorations.
"Because I'm spending it with you…"
Moka let off a soft gasp. She was deeply moved by the sweet words the boy said about her. No monster in her home world was as kind and affectionate as Tsukune was. She did not care that he was a human, for she loved him so much.
With her cheeks turning as pink as her hair, Moka turned to face Tsukune. For a moment, she simply smiled at him adoringly - before noticing something above him which instantly grabbed her attention.
"Tsukune! Look!"
Seeing that Moka was pointing above his head, Tsukune lifted his gaze - which instantly lit up upon seeing what was there.
Attached to the room's ceiling, dangling above the young boy and the sweet vampire - was a piece of mistletoe.
Tsukune silently observed it for a moment, then lowered his gaze back towards Moka. His smiled broadened over standing underneath such a special plant at Christmas - with the very girl he was in love with.
"It's a mistletoe," he said in a quiet yet ambitious voice. "And we're under it, Moka!"
Moka's teal eyes twinkled, taking in the way Tsukune was looking at her as her cheeks changed from pink to red.
"Oh, Tsukune…"
"Oh, Moka…"
The pair gazed at each other, lovingly saying their names as they stood under the mistletoe.
"Oh, Tsukune…"
"Oh, Moka…"
Slowly, they moved towards one another, unable to take their passionate expressions from their faces as they exchanged warm smiles.
"Oh, Tsukune…"
"Oh, Moka…"
Tsukune closed his eyes, his lips readying themselves to press against Moka's…
…before a loud cry escaped them as the vampire sank her fangs into the boy's neck.
"Arrrggghhh!"
Tsukune could only wail in both shock and disappointment as Moka happily sucked his blood. He had not considered for a moment that she was only planning to drink his human fluids. Not even what was hanging over them could drive the love of his life to put her lips onto him - instead of digging her teeth into him.
Being in a relationship with a vampire certainly came with its problems all year around. Not even Christmas could put Moka's monster instincts to rest. Tsukune felt certain he was the only boy whose girlfriend would choose not to kiss him, but to bite him under the mistletoe.
THE END
