A/n: Hello lovely readers hope you guys are doing well. Meeting after a long time, hope everyone is safe and sound. Please ignore my mistakes and enjoy.
"Some places speak distinctly. Certain dark gardens cry aloud for a murder; certain old houses demand to be haunted; certain coasts are set apart for shipwreck." — Robert Louis Stevenson
Man speaks on TV: "Encountering anything that you can't see is bone chilling."
Boy laughs.
"These crazy freak youtubers fake all these things for just a drop of a clout." video continues to play in the background. It was 11 at night, Shivom hasn't gone to sleep yet. He, in his room was watching a paranormal investigator video on TV. He doesn't believe in ghosts; he just loves to watch the people he dubs "Grammy worthy actors acting" only of a little laugh.
Shivom is an eighteen-year-old boy, who resides in the outskirts of Nirala Nagar, Lucknow. Nirala Nagar is believed to be the most haunted part of the city of Lucknow but, it is Shivom's understanding that it is all just bullshit and things made up by the old people to keep their young ones in check. His house is in the area covered by vegetation all around. It's a creepy place for sure, surrounded by large, big peepal trees and having only one or two neighbours nearby. However, Shivom believes that it is perfect and calm place.
Shivom was still watching the video when his room's door handle rattled, a cold shock swept through his body, and he felt a cold sensation at the back of his neck. Suddenly, the door opened, and a woman came inside.
"How many times I have told you to not watch TV late at night." said the woman angrily. Shivom breathed in relief. Putting one hand on his chest Shivom said.
"Oh, thank god, you scared me ma."
"Why the hell you are watching these scary videos at this time?" she questioned.
"I am not scared, it's just a scam to earn money." he replied.
"I have told you many times that gh-" she was interrupted.
"Well, don't start with this topic. I am going to bed."
After saying this Shivom turned the TV off and put blanket on his face, pretending to sleep. Mom left the room and after few minutes of turning and adjusting to find the best position to sleep, Shivom fell asleep.
*Alarm clock hit 3:00 AM.*
Shivom was lying on his side towards the window, which was open as these were the days of june; the hottest month. A soft breeze was flowing, and curtains of the window were moving. *Shivom grunts* there was tension on his face, he was shaking and sweating all the sudden. It seemed like he was having a nightmare, then after some time he stopped. Shivom was aware of his surroundings; he felt a pressure around his waist. He thought he was dreaming but, the pressure like two cold hands holding the waist felt too real. At that moment, his heart started racing, he tried to debunk the feeling by thinking that the curtains might have fallen on his waist as he was lying near to it. However, his heart sank when he felt that pressure or the hands were tightening its grip around his lower back to a point, they were hurting him. He instantly stood up a from the bed and there was no one in the room except him. The pressure vanished and he was standing motionless; thinking about what just happened.
His legs had no strength in them, they were shivering. Shivom had never in his life experienced something like this before. The area around his waist was now tingling like it was mildly burned. He shrugged everything and laid back in his bed. This time he had covered himself with the blanket, his heart was still racing, and his eyes were wide awake. He kept them opened until he fell asleep again.
*Alarm clock hit 8:00 AM*
Shivom was woken by his mother's calls, the morning felt weird. It seemed like that something was not right. After a moment, revelation hit Shivom again, what had happened at night he remembered again. He was not going to admit that it was paranormal thing. He just wanted to forget about it. However, as went to the bathroom to take a bath, he undressed himself and what he saw on his body sent shivers down his spine. As glanced at his waist, he could see three finger marks at the either side. The marks were blue with red at the edges, long and thin. They were not paining just little tingling. It was like some human had held him a little too hard and left him scarred. The thing that Shivom was trying to ignore could not be left unacknowledged. Something paranormal had happened with him. It was evil spirit that had attacked Shivom. He had listened that six is the devil's number and he had six scratch marks around his waist. Last night, a demon had attacked him not any common ghost.
As he left the bathroom, Shivom was fazed, and he was not paying attention to where he was going. He didn't realize that his mom had entered the room and he bumped into her.
"Hey, you, watch where you are going. I have said it thousands of times that go to bed early." said Mom tauntingly. "I know these are your summer vacations, but you should not stay up for so long."
"I will from now mom." said Shivom and he also wanted to tell her about the incident of last night, but he stopped because he thought his mother will not believe it and think it is just a jest. Without saying anything, Shivom went to the dining room where the breakfast already set. He was the only one at the table as both his parents had finished the breakfast. His father had gone to work, and his mother was busy in doing chores in the house.
Shivom ate his food in silence, and he was still thinking about the incident of the last night. Occasionally he would touch his wound and all the times it tingled a bit. Shivom thought to himself that how could this be possible? Was he sleepwalking and hurt himself or it was a wild cat who hurt him? All these questions and no answer, Shivom was so desperately trying found another source rather than the ghost explanation. But it was futile as the finger's marks were so defined that these could not be any animal and longer fingers than any human beings. The only possibility scared Shivom to his core. The things he thought didn't exist and made fun of people who believed in ghouls are now actually haunting him.
The day was grey and grim despite being the middle of the June. It is expected to rain today, and grey clouds were swirling in the sky. To get some fresh air and largely to divert his mind Shivom decided to visit his friend Madhav, who was out of the town to visit his grandmother's house, but Shivom was not aware of that. At last Shivom resorted to sit in the park in front of his house to divert his mind. As Shivom was sitting idle on the grass patch, he saw some movement inside his room. Shivom's room window was in front of the house facing the gate and the street. So, from the park the inside of his room was visible when the gate was open. The curtains of the window were fluttering despite there being no wind at all and a thin silhouette of a person could be seen standing inside the room. As Shivom was very far away, he couldn't distinct who the person is, or it was completely a different thing.
He thought it was his mother, who was cleaning his room. But his eyes filled with terror as he saw his mother coming back from grocery shopping. She was not in the house all this time; he was frozen where he sat and then the figure inside his room started moving. Somehow Shivom was able to see it clearly than before, like the thing inside the room wanted him to see. It slowly turned his face towards Shivom, he will not forget the thing for entirety of his life. Shivom was able to see the one side of the face of whatever the thing was; male-female, demon-ghost. The face was burned and deeply scarred with red blood dripping from the scars. There were no eyelids and eyebrows as they were burned. The most terrifying thing was the eye. As the eye glanced towards Shivom, blood spilled out of it and the gaze was most horrific and sinister. Shivom heart raced at an unbelievable rate, and he thought he was going to die. But then his body received a jerk, it was his mom who and come in the park. Shivom glanced at her and back at the window and that thing was gone. He looked back at his mom scared and she also glanced at the window.
"What's there?" she asked. Shivom was not able to answer her, but he thought for a moment. He believed it about time he told his mother about what had happened and what he saw.
"Mom, I have to tell you something." his voice trembling.
