Prompt: "Oh shit, you're nesting..."

When Shiho had been Ai, Shinichi had never been able to smell her scent. The few times she became Shiho again, Shinichi was still Conan, still unpresented, and Ai didn't talk much about her old life as Shiho. It was clear to Shinichi that it was a topic she was uncomfortable with, so he never asked. However, based on her personality, he always thought that she was either an alpha or a beta. The possibility of her being an omega had never occurred to him, until finally, the two took the permanent antidote.

At once, scents returned to Shinichi. And as he exited the room and saw Shiho, omega scent flooded through his nose. He stared at her in shock, trying to comprehend what he was smelling, and she rolled her eyes.

"What?" she asked dryly. "Never smelled an omega before?"

Shinichi swallowed. "I mean, I have. Ran and Sonoko-"

"Then it's just because I'm an omega," Shiho said flatly.

"I thought…" Shinichi said slowly, trying not to sound harsh. "I thought you were an alpha, or a beta… Anything other than an omega, honestly."

Shiho stared at him for a while, then smiled slightly. "I'm glad, honestly. Back in the organization…" she winced as she recalled her past life. "They weren't as accepting of omegas, I suppose. They couldn't throw me away; I was too valuable. But they made my life a worse hell than it would have been if I had been born an alpha or a beta."

"I'm sorry," Shinichi murmured, feeling pity for her.

Shiho stared at him. "You've changed," she noted. "The old Kudo-kun, would he feel sorry for me?"

"Yes," Shinichi said. "But he wouldn't admit it."

Shiho laughed slightly. "If there is one good thing this drug has done, it's made you less of an asshole."

Shinichi elbowed her, and soon, after other conversations, the day was over.

Even though Shinichi could scent her now, he still found it hard to think of Shiho as an omega. She still acted the way she usually did, the way that made Shinichi think of her as an alpha or a beta, and she still acted like Ai, just older. She was also never really talkative about things such as her heats. She would just disappear into the basement whenever those happened, and Agasa would be the one to tell Shinichi about it.

Ran and Sonoko treated her as one of them, though, something that always surprised Shinichi whenever he saw the two interact with Shiho. However, he got used to it quickly as well, just as he got used to his old life. The scents, which he hadn't smelled at all while he was Conan, were overwhelming at first, and the same went for his ruts. He wondered if Shiho felt the same about her heats.

Despite all the trouble that came from adjusting, being Shinichi again, after so long being Conan, was great. He could tell that Shiho also felt good about being in her old body again. However, he wasn't entirely sure if he would ever get used to Shiho being an omega…

One day, when Shinichi was forced to admit to himself that he needed Shiho's help for a case, he headed over next door to Agasa's house. Knocking on the door, he frowned as he heard no response. Picking up the phone, he called the old man. Agasa picked up after only a few rings.

"Hello?" he asked.

"Hakase," Shinichi greeted. "Are you… not home?"

"Ah! Did I forget to tell you?" Agasa sounded apologetic. "I took the kids out. I figured it's been a while since they went camping. Both you and Shiho-chan were too busy to come with them, so…"

"I see," Shinichi breathed out. "So Miyano is still at the house?"

"She should be," Agasa said. "If she's not responding, she's probably too invested in whatever she's doing to hear you."

"Thanks, Hakase," Shinichi said, then hung up the phone. Taking out his keys to Agasa's house and unlocking the door, he entered.

Something about the house smelled strange, but Shinichi didn't think too much about it. He went to the basement first, because that was where Shiho usually was when she was busy, but, not seeing her there, he went to her room next. Shiho always locked the door whenever she was changing or not in the mood for conversation, and otherwise was fine with Shinichi barging in, so that was what he did.

Then he froze, because in the middle of the room was Shiho, and she was…

"Oh shit," Shinichi breathed out. "You're nesting…"

Shiho looked up at him, glaring. "Of course I am, dipshit. I'm an omega about to go into heat."

Shinichi swallowed, backing away some. "I'm sorry, I'll go now…"

"It's fine," Shiho groaned, sitting up. "I'm not in heat yet. What do you want?"

Shinichi slowly made his way closer to her and told her exactly what he needed. All the time, he was consciously aware that this was an omega. Something he had never really processed before.

He left as soon as possible.

A few days later, around the time when Shiho's heat ended, Shinichi got a call from her. Picking up the phone, he said awkwardly, "Hey Miyano, what's up?"

"Kudo-kun," she greeted. "Why do you sound that way?"

Shinichi swallowed. "Well, the last time I saw you…"

"Is there really something so wrong with me nesting?" Shiho questioned, her voice harsh.

"No," Shinichi said quickly. "It's just… It's hard to think of you as an omega sometimes."

Shiho was quiet. Shinichi took that as an excuse to keep going.

"I spent so long not being able to smell your scent, and when we came back… that was the first time I was presented with the fact that you're an omega. So it was different, yeah. But there's nothing wrong with it."

"I'm glad you think that way," Shiho said. "Because if you didn't, I would have given you that same lecture."

Shinichi laughed, and seconds later, Shiho joined him.

Laughter subsiding, Shinichi asked, "So, why did you call me?"

"Oh," Shiho said pleasantly. "I wanted to ask you when your next rut was. Since you barged in on my privacy right before my heat…"

Shinichi groaned. He was going to be in so much trouble…
