Every few seconds an explosion was heard, making the earth underneath his feet shake and his ears ring but the hero ignored it. Most of his focus was directed at the blue flames shooting at him at rapid speed and the person using them. Dabi- Touya, his son, was trying his best to kill him and his youngest. The three Todoroki's all tried their hardest to end all of this, to win this fight once and for all.
Touya wanted to win because his father wronged him, because his youngest brother was seen as a nuisance and because he wanted to see all the heros fail. Shouto wanted to win just because he wanted to keep the world save from his brother who had chosen the side of villany. Enji just wanted this all to end. He wanted to try and fix his family but had to realize that not everything was fixable, that his oldest son would never forgive him.
A ball of blue fire came racing at his head, making him jump to the left and stumble slightly as he tried to catch his breath. He was exhausted, the fight had been going on for ages now and he knew that he wouldn't be able to keep going for much longer. He also knew that Shouto wasn't feeling much better, the dual quirk user looked as exhausted as Enji felt and half his body looked like it was glaced over with ice and snow.
Touya himself looked like he was in constant pain and the faint smell of burned flesh made it clear that he was hurting himself with every knew flame he produced.
Around them buildings fell and people screamed but they didn't care, none of them did. Another ball of fire came rushing at him only to be blocked by a wall of ice. The wall was only there for a few seconds before more flames brought it back down. With a groan Enji took a step forward and made his own fire appear, directing it at Touya and hoping for him to just give up but he knew his son wouldn't.
All of a sudden something caught his attention. A piece of ice was still there, standing right behind Touya. At first Enji didn't know why it caught his attention so suddenly until he saw a small red light reflecting off of it. With wide eyes he looked behind him and saw Snipe nestled behind a pilar on an almost completely collapsed building. At first the older hero felt relief at the prospect of this fight finally being over until the realization of his son dying came crushing down on him.
He looked back at the black haired man and saw him spitting blood on the ground while panting heavily before he straightened his posture. Enji saw how hurt this man- his son- was and started running.
A shot rang out not even a second after his legs started moving. He was only able to move forward a foot or two but it was enough. The bullet that was aimed at his oldest sons head was caught by him instead. He could feel it entering through his back and coming back out through his chest, he could feel the flesh tearing and the blood oozing out of the wound. For a few seconds everything went still, Touyas eyes widened in disbelief and Shouto's in shock. Noone moved until Enji fell to the ground with a dull thud.
Shouto immedietly rushed towards him cradling his head while Touya was frozen in place, blue flames vanishing from his hands. After a few more seconds the black haired man made his way towards the two men on the ground, one of them crying while the other just took shallow, wheezing breaths. When Dabi finally reached them Enji looked alarmed for a second before a small smile made it's way onto his face as he realized his son wouldn't do anything.
A small chuckle made it's way out of Dabi's throat at the sight before he said, "You are going to die. You'll die because of me." He didn't continue, the man only laughed and gripped his hair before the laughing was broken by a sob. The other two Todoroki's looked at him in surprise but didn't say anything as the black haired man sank down to his knees with his hands still gripping his hair tightly.
Another sob tore through Dabi when he noticed his family members staring at him, making him feel even wierder. "I wanted you to die. I wanted to kill you so why would you do that? Are you fucking stupid? You're going to die because of me. Me!" Tears started running down his cheeks while he simultaniously laughed and sobbed at the sight in front of him.
Enji took a shallow breath before he spoke with a small, weak voice, "You're my son. Of course I'll save you." He looked at Touya with sorrow in his eyes but the words were true, even after everything Touya was still his son and he knew that it was his fault that he turned out this way.
While Enji took his last painful breaths he looked at his sons. His youngest held his head and was crying silently while his oldest was on his left, staring at him, laughing and sobbing at the same time. As Enji's eyes grew heavier and heavier he desperately wished his oldest would give up now as his main goal was now achieved.
The last thought on the heros mind was how his sons could have a new chance at life now and how he hoped they'd take it.
