Chance Meeting F: Daybreak
2/26/2024 Destroyed Vaporsea Hotel, San Aldecado, Siesta City Daytime - Clear Sky
First Person POV
"What the hell…" I said to myself in anger as I saw what happened. My own apartment that I lived in… I lived there for one day and suddenly it got destroyed… I already assumed last night that there was a huge beam of golden light that we saw in the sky, meaning there was already a fight that was taking place from here and the other parts I can only guess is Nashwood. All of these destruction has already ruined my plans. I feel devastated… But Rider in her casual clothing was comforting me as I looked at her.
"Master, don't feel bad about it! Even if you returned home and the fight would have broken out. Things would have turned out worse for you. Be grateful that you still didn't die." Rider said with her usual smile as I facepalmed lightly.
"Yeah but… The biggest problem is that I didn't get enough sleep because we had to force ourselves to survive the night. The first encounter of the Assassin was the only problem that caused it." I continued and looked at her. "And now, we're completely homeless. Which means finding an unoccupied area that is either abandoned or safe to reside… and it would take us over four hours of search. This is too much work to deal with…"
"Umm… Excuse me? You used to live here, right?" The voice of a kind woman spoke to us as we turned to our left to see who's there. There was a young woman with a brunette wavy hair, clear blue eyes, and a gentle smile approaching us. However, she was wearing a fine white dress. Who is she? "I heard about what happened last night. All I heard was about terrorist bombings."
"Huh? O-Oh, yeah. I heard the news, too. These terrorists are sure full of angry people. Though, I wonder why they would attack people." I pretended to engage in a conversation but in reality… it must have been two Servants fighting each other.
"I have no clue… I just moved to the city a month ago and things have already escalated quickly. Maybe I should have moved back to New York, after all…" The woman said with doubt over the city's reputation as I talked to her.
"What, no? I mean. The city's great. The beach… uhh… I dunno. Can't guess." Well… this has turned into a very awkward conversation quickly. But she giggled over it.
"The beach is pristine? I've heard it many times. Even saw postcards at some mail offices in Times Square. Say, you have a name?" She asked me as I responded.
"Ryuga Ashikaga. I… just moved here two days ago. And you are?" I asked her name as well.
"Fiore Forvedge. As I said before, I moved here a month ago. So it's a pleasure to meet you, Ryuga." Fiore lends her hand as I accept it. Just as we're going to get along.
"Hey. This place ain't safe here, you two." A normal looking person wearing a black beanie arrives to tell us about what happened.
"Yeah, we're aware… and you're late on that…" I spoke with sarcasm as the man seemed to understand.
"Then I don't need to remind myself…" The man then proceeded to something next as he grabbed it out of his pocket.
[SHING!]
"Hand over yo fuckin' money, asshole! I want all of it! No tricks, nothin'! So hurry the fuck up… or I'll lose my goddamn mind!" The man who appears to be robbing us with a knife… and he's really impatient. I guess I'll have to reason with him…
"Oh, sure." I said it bluntly.
"Wait, really?" The robber was confused about what I said as I nodded.
"Yea, sure. Before I do so…" I pointed at what's behind him. "I believe your girl is calling for you?"
"Wait, my girl? Huh!?" The robber then quickly turned around to find out there was nothing there… What an idiot. He dropped his guard down. I proceeded to grab his shoulder behind him as he thrusted my knee directly right into his groin.
[DING!]
"GWAAAH!" The robber felt that intense pain after I did that. He proceeds to fall to the ground as I sighed.
"You know… You seemed like a nice guy. But when it comes to dudes…" I approached him as I used my right leg to repeatedly kick him in the balls.
"Yes! Yes! Kick him while he's down!" Rider was cheering me on as I continued to do so…
"It's nuts… or… nothing…!" I continued to kick him as Fiore intervened.
"Ryuga! Stop! You already hurt him enough!" Fiore stopped me as the robber struggled to get up as he stayed on the asphalt.
"Sorry. Just needed to put some sense into him. As much as we love to talk… Think you can take me to your place to continue from here?" I asked her as she simply nodded.
"Oh, definitely. Please. Follow me. I just moved into a new home here in this district." Fiore said to me as I was rather surprised.
"Really? What was your previous home in?" I asked her about it.
"Nashwood." Fiore responded as I realized. Some areas of Nashwood were destroyed. "We're forced to evacuate as others have moved to other districts like New Hiroshima. But I chose to move to Willowton for the proper affordable prices. You know where that district is, right?"
"It's near but between here and Pacifica. I never bother going there since it looks like a typical American suburbia." I said to her as we started walking with Rider walking behind me to listen to our conversation… She's awfully quiet today.
"It can be. But it has a really nice shopping plaza not far from there. Last time I heard, there's a coffee shop there." Fiore talked about it as I was reminded of myself going to that place before when I first arrived in the city. And so, we started to get along with each other slowly.
Forvedge Residence, Willowton, Siesta City Morning - Clear Sky
As soon as we arrived in another middle-class district of Willowton. When we all arrived outside of her house within the suburbia, it was a two-story home where we got inside where there were a lot of boxes… I can tell that she's still moving in. Yet, she's doing this all by herself.
"Wow… you're still settling in?" I asked her.
"Pretty much. I was a little tired so I wanted to get some fresh air and wander around the city. Perhaps you can help me move some boxes in various rooms?" Fiore asked me as I feel like I shouldn't turn down her offer.
"Sure thing." I accepted her help as I carried the heaviest box… The hell is inside that thing? Whatever, I looked at my Servant and talked to her. "Help carry and box."
"Wait, who's your friend?" Fiore asked as Rider picked one up.
"I'll tell you later once I finish helping you. Let's go." I said to her as me and Rider began moving to proceed to put these boxes down somewhere. But, I looked at Fiore for a moment? "You gonna help?"
"O-Oh, right!" Fiore completely forgot as she picked up one of the boxes and proceeded to help each other on moving stuff here and there.
[THIRTY MINUTES LATER…]
As some time passes, that involves moving boxes from room to room based on Fiore's request. I proceeded to sit on the couch in the main living room as I felt tired. Though, Rider did help here and there but she didn't talk when Fiore was around. Perhaps she was unaware.
"I see you're done, Ryuga?" Fiore asked me as I nodded.
"Yup… my arms feel strained. I can feel the pain from within…" I said to her as I looked up at the ceiling just to stare at it.
"I can understand that. However… you never told me your friend. Who is she?" Fiore asked me.
"Oh, just a long acquaintance of mine. We… We met each other 4 years ago." I lied as she thinked.
"Really now? Though, she seemed like a nice person. Though… I haven't been able to talk to her. Now then… Shall I get you some drinks? I only offer tea." Fiore asked me about it. To be honest… I never drank tea in like the longest time. Might as well accept it.
"Sure. Why not? Do you have some Marigold Tea?" I asked her about it.
"I believe I do. Wait here. I'll be right back to brew one." Fiore then headed straight to the kitchen as she proceeded to brew one for me. Then, Rider appeared and sat next to me.
"I must say, Master. To think we're helping her for no reason. You think this is wise?" Rider said to me about it.
"Apart from her beauty, yes." I continued. "Still, we lost our apartment because of the fight caused by two Servants. So this would most likely be a setback for sure. For now, we need to think of what's ahead for the next night. Which means we need to find a new base of operations. But I think I've made up my mind… I'm going to find this Master of Assassin next night."
"And what happens if you do?" Rider asked me about it.
"I… I don't know. Even though killing a Master would force a Servant to disappear. Not like right away, it'll only take tons of hours or even days for a Servant to disappear without a Master." I explained the whole process of how it works. Yes, if you kill a Master. Their Servant will disappear. Which explains why it's better for a Master like me to hunt down another Master. But the chances of killing them is rather slim because their Servants would and will always protect them no matter the cost. However, I heard her voice.
"The tea's ready" Fiore said as she arrived with a fancy wooden tray as she placed it on the table. She proceeds to pour the tea onto a cup as I look at it. "This is the Marigold tea as you've requested."
"Thanks, Fiore. You're a lifesaver." I said with a small smile, grabbing the cup of tea and began drinking it. "Ahhh… Nothing beats better than a fresh cup of homebrew tea… Thank you, Fiore. I feel quite much better already."
"Think nothing of it. But…" Fiore looked at my hand in concern. "Your right hand… Don't tell me…"
"Wait, you mean by- Ooh… Right… Guess the cat's out of the bag." I suppose she saw my Command Seal. No way I can lie out of that one. Time to tell the truth. "Yeah… It's a Command Seal… I know it's obvious but… you're aware of what's going on? About that light at Nashwood?"
"I think I do… I was sleeping until I noticed a flash of light. And I thought it was just a dream but… I guess it's all too real. But that Command Seal you have… That must mean you're a Master?" Fiore asked as she wanted answers.
"Pretty much… Usually, Servants like Rider here will kill bystanders if they see it. But coming from you… I guess you used to be part of the war before?" I said to her as she shook her head.
"Sadly, I have not. But I heard about it when I was a magus at that time." Fiore spoke as she continued. "However… That was long ago when I was first bound to my wheelchair three years ago."
"Wait… wheelchair?" I said to her in slight confusion as she nodded.
"Yes, a wheelchair. I was born with magic circuits that were on both of my legs. But that cost me the ability to walk. When I was 17, that was when I decided to remove magic circuits from my legs completely and abandoned the world of magecraft completely… That also means leaving my family behind, appointing my brother to be the heir instead. I moved to America in order to start a new life. And… that's how I ended up meeting you." Fiore explained the whole story of her life… Being born as a cripple but gifted with magecraft can sometimes be a blessing… and also a curse.
"Your story is believable to say at least. Now then… the next step is introductions… Rider?" I commanded my Servant as she stood up and started to magically change into her usual outfit. The same one as always.
"Just like you asked, Master. Though, Fiore Forvedge. I was thinking about killing you but… since your fast friends with my Master. I suppose I'll allow it." Rider said as I felt concerned over her words.
"Rider… mind your manners." I continued and looked at her. "I'm sorry if she said this very bluntly to you. Still, I can explain what happened. You remember the hotel we were looking at, right? That was supposed to be my home until… A Servant fight occurred. Now, I'm without a home and I'm still struggling to find one. I don't want to start wasting my money just to pay rent. Otherwise, it'll be very troublesome."
"Hmm… Alright. I believe you." Fiore continued. "Since you're taking part in the war. I assume you're still hunting down some Masters who are on this island?"
"I am. But to no avail, there was none aside from Servants trying to target me every night. First was Lancer… Second was… uhh… Assassin?" I responded as I started to recall the events when we first encountered two Servants who were trying to kill us on each night.
"Really? Going out at night makes you an open target for Masters like you to get killed off easily. Are you that fearless? Do you have any magecraft to protect yourself?" Fiore asked me.
"First off, yes… kinda. And Second. As for my magecraft… It's pretty useless. So I might as well say it's functional but incomplete." I said to her as she tilted her head a little as she was confused by what I just said.
"Incomplete?" Fiore asked about it.
"Yup." I proceed to use my right arm as the magic circuits appear as I take a glance at it. "My relative taught me basic things about magecraft when I was 7. But when I was 15, I learned that my ability has allowed me to 'hotwire' things such as vehicles, tools, and whatnot without any basic requirement such as power. I just need my magic circuits to do the job."
"That's rather interesting. Is that all you can do?" Fiore said as my circuits disappeared.
"Pretty much. Now then… as for my Servant- Huh? Rider? Where are you? I swear you were just with me by now…" I begin to think of where she went. But I heard the footsteps which were quick as she found and approached me, grabbing my shoulders with both hands with her eyes widened while smiling. "H-Hey! What's wrong?"
"M-Master! We need to talk! I found this toilet in the bathroom and the water sprayed right up into my rear! What is that!?" Rider began shaking me violently as Fiore talked in.
"Oh. you were just mentioning about the bidet. It's quite useful these days." Fiore explained it in short detail as Rider let my go and looked at her.
"Is that so? Then I shall destroy it!" Rider announced her intentions as she tried to stop her.
"N-No! Rider! Don't! Please do not destroy the toilet!" Fiore exclaimed in worry
"Like she said, Rider. Please! Don't destroy the toilet!" I spoke as well to join in just to inform my Servant over toilets and bidets… What's even the big deal like that?
But a few minutes passed where we've all gotten along with each other. I somehow ended up becoming fast friends with her while Rider was seen sitting on the couch with me as Fiore poured me more of the tea. I realized there was a flatscreen TV there. I grabbed the remote on the table and turned it on. As I did, the first thing we saw was the news itself with live footage of the aftermath at Nashwood. Nashwood… Wait, I definitely remember. When me and Rider left the store, we saw that golden light piercing through the sky last night. Most of the area of the Nashwood district was destroyed, what was left was a complete barren wasteland.
TV News Anchor: "In today's news regarding what has happened. A massive explosion has destroyed the portion of the Nashwood district. Some have said that the explosion was unreal compared to nuclear weapons. However, authorities have confirmed that 250 were killed in the explosion as the source started at the shopping plaza during the night. Now, what was left of Nashwood is more nothing than a gray barren wasteland. However, the CEO and Commander of the BlackSteel PMC Group, Bryce Glenbrook has stated publicly at Pacifica Square City Hall to fully address this.
Bryce Glenbrook: "We all knew this would happen. Last night, an explosion was set off at the shopping plaza in Nashwood. The radius was large but it did not reach the entirety of the district. While the death count is insurmountably high which deems the worst things to happen here in Siesta City. But do not fret. We have found the ones responsible for creating a nuclear-like explosion. These no-good criminals call themselves… 88th Street. We have officially labeled them as terrorist as they deemed themselves a true threat to the city and it's people. Rest assured! We are here to help and protect your lives from these scumbags. We will not show any mercy to them. To 88th Street, you made an enemy with BlackSteel. That is all I have to say."
"Ryuga?" Fiore called my name as I watched the TV to think…
"Something's not right…" I said to both Rider and Fiore. "This whole 'nuclear explosion' thing wasn't an accident. But I can definitely confirm that the two Servants were fighting… but I can't tell who is who."
"So you're telling me that the city or this Bryce is trying to cover up this whole incident?" Fiore asked.
"Seems so. It's more like they've gone full damage control in order to shake off this matter. This is indeed strange and unsettling." Rider pondered about this as she looked at me. "Master. Do be on your guard. I have a bad feeling about this BlackSteel that they call themselves."
"Got it… Might as well put BlackSteel on my 'Avoid List'. I don't want any trouble with them." I said with my arms crossed. "In order to prepare for this next night… Fiore? You have an additional room, right?"
"I believe I do. I was intending to use the guest room as my workshop to continue my work there. But since you revealed yourself as a Master. Don't worry. Your secrets are safe with me." Fiore smiled. "So the room is all yours."
"Thanks, Fiore! Can't believe you're a lifesaver." I said to her as she giggled a bit.
"Please, pay it no mind. After all, I am providing you with some basic needs such as a house. So please, make yourself at home." Fiore said with kindness and a soft smile. Seriously… She's a literal angel. "Now then, are there any questions?"
"None taken. I plan to take down a Master tonight which might be risky." I told her about it as she seemed curious.
"And who are you trying to take down?" Fiore asked.
"Most likely the Master of Lancer. We've had our first run in with that Lancer Servant so If I can figure out where that Master is hiding, that is…" I said to her as she seemingly understands my reason.
"I see. Before we talk more about this. Can you two follow me to the rooftop?" Fiore asked us as I grabbed the remote to turn off the TV as we stood up while I tossed the remote away on the couch.
"The rooftop?" I asked her as she nodded.
"You'll see." Fiore said as she went upstairs.
"Master. I suggest you follow me. If she wants to show us something. Then I say we do it." Rider suggested that we should follow her. Like we have a choice…
As soon as we followed her upstairs and up onto the rooftop where she opened the door. I come to notice patches of flowers on the rooftops. Each flower differs from each type from red tulips, yellow dandelions, and many others. She brought us all this way here to show us this. Yet, it looks beautiful in some sense. She approached the flowers as she took a good glance at it and looked at me.
"Don't these flowers look pretty?" Fiore asked me. "I discovered them when I first moved here and it was left unattended. So I decided to look after and take care of them. But… some had wilted away."
"Ahh… Flowers do have lives, y'know." I continued. "The stem is what keeps them alive and… If you pull the flower out from the ground. It won't last long to live and otherwise… it'll die out in the end. Forcing it to starve of water will also cause the same thing. Sometimes, it's hard to take care of them by simply feeding them with water."
"Most of the time, these flowers… are the most precious to me. My younger brother would bring me outside into the field of flowers and give them to me. He calls them good luck and always tells me to hold on to it." Fiore tells her own side of the story about flowers as I start to understand her. This is all reminding me of the same story that I always tell myself.
"Did it wither away?" I asked her as she seemingly looked down as she nodded. She wasn't happy about how flowers die out.
"…Yes." Fiore responded. "They all die out in the end. I couldn't feel the sadness when my brother pulled them out of the ground."
"I can understand that. If you leave the flower alone, it'll continue to live longer throughout the day. My mother would tell me stories about it. Though, I suppose I can help you with it. Hear me out. I wanted to return the favor to you. So I was thinking I could help water your flowers so it can stay healthy? Think you'd be okay with it?" I asked her for my request. It would be rude for me to freeload and do whatever I want. This is HER house and she owns it. I appreciate her for providing me with a free room. So I wanted to return my generosity for my help. Yet, she was rather surprised by what I said. She proceeded to smile with kindness.
"That'd be lovely, Ryuga. Thank you." Fiore said to me as I shook my head with a small smile.
"Don't worry. Leave it to me. Rider, help me out." I said to my Servant as we proceeded to help Fiore with the flowers that she has been taking care of. I began to recall these events of the story about how a child brought flowers to his mother. But I started to get this feeling… Who was my mother again… Why can't I remember? I can't let these negative emotions get to me. What's left now is to focus on what's up ahead. That is the only thing I can do.
88th Street Base, San Aldecado, Siesta City Daytime - Clear Sky
Third Person POV
Meanwhile at the abandoned junkyard within some parts of San Aldecado where one of the gang members with a radical mohawk as he was seen holding a rusty led pipe with nails and razor blades on it as he goes inside the warehouse where it was filled with firearms of weapons that were stored as the people were seen stocking them. He then walk past it as he approached to a particular man wearing a army green bomber jacket, blue jeans, and a skull-like hockey mask as he was seen spinning the 50 calibur bullet like a pen.
"Boss! Boss! This is bad." The henchman spoke to the leader as the Boss looked at him.
"Yeah… I know. Is it the whole public statement from those damn PMC fuckers?" Boss asked him as he nodded. "Figures… Knew that asshole had some balls to slander and defame us as terrorists. Thinking we 'nuked' Nashwood. Tch… What a load of shit."
"So, what are we gonna do now!? These guys are going to wipe us all out!" The henchman stammered and panicked over their fears about BlackSteel's intention to kill everyone. But the Boss stood up as he took a deep breath.
"Alright… Let me handle this…" The Boss remained calm in his voice as he prepared himself. "EVERYONE! GATHER AROUND!"
Everyone took notice including the henchman who talked to the Boss as they all gathered up in a formation like soldiers.
"You all know this is happening. About the news of that man, Bryce Glenbrook… The man behind BlackSteel destroyed our reputation and defamed us as enemies. They mean to kill us all!" The Boss spoke with all of the gang members here as they all booed for a few seconds as they stopped. "For years, we've been making home here in Siesta, marking San Aldecado as our main territory. And now, they've come to break our doors to wipe us out. However, I have greater plans in mind."
The Boss then turned his head to his left where a woman who wore a red dress-like battle outfit with a sheathed sword on the front of her right hip as everyone looked at her while remaining quiet.
"I've been keeping this a great secret to you all. That this woman… my Servant, will lead you to victory. Her words of advice of training you had paid off thanks to me guiding you. Siesta's our home, and we'll never abandon it. So today! Tonight's the night! We will hunt every single BlackSteel fuckers and kill Bryce once and for all! He started this war and we'll never back down from a fight! So who's with me!?" The Boss then raised up his right hand as he pumped his fist in the air, revealing his Command Seal as everyone cheered with their weapons raised.
"Master… Are you sure this is wise? Appointing me…?" Boss' Servant asked him as she seemed a little concerned.
"Do not worry. Your words of training them helped me inspire my men to battle. Sure, they're dumb but I somehow managed to whip them into shape thanks to your help. Which is why I want you to lead my men in battle. Will you do it?" The Boss asked her as she seemingly had no choice.
"Very well, Master… I'll do my best to lead your army from here." The Servant accepted her Master's command as he let out a smirk.
"Good choice there. Don't fail me now… Rider." Boss called her name with confidence, knowing that his Servant Rider would help lead his men to hunt and kill the BlackSteel soldiers without mercy. He proceeded to speak in his own mind. "Get ready, Bryce… You're about to witness a bloody fireworks show once we kill you from Hell and back…"
Thus, the battle between the 88th Street and BlackSteel would embroil into another war within the Holy Grail War that would fuel the Boss' hatred. And so, everything abrupts to black as everything has gone silent.

Author's Note: Thank you for reading the end of Act 1 - Chance Meeting. Yes, you heard that right. This story will split into Acts rather than Arcs as this Act only focuses on the arrival of the city and its strange battles that lead to the destruction of Nashwood. The next act known as "Conspiracy" will tell the tale of a full-frontal Holy Grail War as the 88th Street has grown a personal vendetta against BlackSteel who have defamed them in order to cover up the incident after what happened. As Masters fight each other by sending their Servants to battle to the death for them. There might also be some Masters who would even join forces… or fight against everyone with risk. Including some unknown that I cannot spoil. While it is short again. But do please look forward to the next Act where things become unhinged. Until then, peace out!
