After fixing the toilet with Dad I went back to my "project" and searched for matches for hours upon hours until I found a match with a prize of $250,000 cash. I thought it's a pretty good deal and with my newfound powers I could win easily. My train of thought was disrupted by a phone call I picked, my phone, up and it was Matthew Bowman and he was offering me an internship at Tech industries and of course I accepted my first day would be tomorrow which is perfect because the match is in a week and I just thought to myself my life is perfect. The next day I went to school as usual but Danny and May wanted to hang out and when I revealed I had an internship with Tech under Dr. Bowman then surprisingly they said the same thing as well and we walked towards our new job. "Can you believe it, we're going to be working with Matthew Bowman. This is amazing!" I exclaim with happiness jumping up into the air.
"Someone's a little happy there cowboy," May says with such a soft voice I froze in my place awe struck.
"Earth to Eli wheelchairs in motion so stop standing there like a little boy on Christmas," Danny says impatiently. Startled, I jump once he says something and I resume walking.
"Sorry just got distracted there for a second," I say startled in response.
"Yeah distracted, let's just go with that loverboy," Danny says, chuckling like a hyena. We soon make it to our destination and are welcomed by Dr. Bowman and shown to our mini labs right next to each other then given the task to create something of the imagination using the resources for any purpose which gave me the idea to create webbing for my match because I wasn't going to win by just brute force and smarts so I started my music and went to work designing web shooters like in the comics and designing a better costume by combining a spandex like cloth with my sweats creating a better suit for hiding my identity and then I created a web fluid for holding my wait then there was the fact of creating something to give me cover so I create a formula designed to enhance the user's strength speed and agility as well as its sense of smell calling it blue wolf it was designed for the army for soldiers. After my day was done it was well past my curfew and Dad called to make sure I was okay then I told him I got caught up at the lab. He asked, surprised, "Lab?" I forgot to tell them about the internship. It hit my head so then I explained everything and Dad decided to pick me up for safety. I packed up my new costume and web shooters in a backpack and slung it over my shoulder and got in my Dad's cab. When we got home my little bro came out and waited til Dad left and asked, "Did you work on your 'project' at the lab?"
"Yeah I made web shooters and a better sweat costume for my match on Friday," I say responding to him lulling him to sleep. The next day I head for school when some muggerswanted to mess with me they started by shoving me against the wall and then they tried to punch me but I caught the first muggers fist luckily I had my web shooters with me because I shot one of my attackers with a web pinning him to a wall the second tried to charge after I knocked him away but I flipped over him and kicked him into a wall knocking him out. After I was finished fending off my attackers I continued on my path to school for my final day of eighth grade. I finally graduated middle school. I met up with Danny and May at the front doors and began our day. After school ended we walked to Tech and I worked with a the smart cloth and designing a better costume in case I won so I wouldn't just be a kid with sweats and then I walked out early to train since tomorrow was the night I would take on the 7'1 330lb behemoth The Bear. The anticipation kept me up all night so I trained on the roof and grabbed a cup of coffee with the little money I had. The money from the match would help the family out a lot since we're struggling to keep our apartment and hopefully the internship is a paid gig. The next morning everything went normal as usual, I went to school then headed to Tech for some lab time designing the new suit it was going to look like House of M Spider-man. It was already looking awesome. "Whatcha workin' on?" Danny looks over and sees the material lying on the desk. I panicked not knowing what to say or do so I blurted out, "I have spider powers and I'm entering a wrestling match." shocked he sat there.
"When?" he asked, still looking shocked still, "When did it happen?"
"The field trip," I say simply.
"Who else knows?" he asks, sounding more and more curious.
"Only you and Joey," I say, " you can't tell anyone, especially May or my parents, they would freak."
"Okay fine," Danny says with humor to cover as May walks in at the same time and then he winks at me so I relaxed at that moment. At about 5 pm I texted Mom that I was going to the library to study for my internship. She texted back that it was okay just don't stay out too late. I texted back okay then headed for my match. At the arena I put my costume on and Looked in the mirror before slipping the mask over my face to where my eyes lined with the lenses. "You're up in 10 minutes kid , get out there," a man said, rushing me to a gate-like entrance. This was my time to shine. The announcer bellowed out my name and I walked slowly my eyes blinded by the bright lights in my face I then walked to the ring and entered then my opponent came out it didn't take long for him to enter the ring then the announcer bellowed out for the match to start then The Bear charged at me like I predicted I flipped over him and kicked him towards the elastic line of the edges of the ring he came back like a yo-yo and I close lined him in the face then as he got back up I webbed his eyes then punched him again and again dodging his every other move til finally the big man dropped and I won by knockout. After the match I went to pick up my cash prize but I was duped with $250 that is a major difference but I just was so angry I left and headed to a nearby grocery store because the least I could do was by some groceries after all I'm out way late and they're probably worried sick about me after I got the groceries as I was in the checkout line there was a man who robbed the place as I was leaving the thug made his escape the manager shouted to me, "Hey stop that guy!"
"Not my problem," I say back to him, beginning my journey home. After I reach my street I see police cars and May and Danny and they mouthed "we're so sorry." filled with panic, I run up thestairs with the groceries in tow to the apartment screaming for Mom and Dad when I reach my Mom she says, "Honey something happened to your father."
"What?" I ask my voice, starting to tremble, "What happened?"
"He was out looking for you because we were worried then he never came home and these officers came and told me your father died of a gunshot wound," she says calmly trying to hold back tears then all of the sudden I over hear officers talking about the location of my father's killer, "Yeah he's in a warehouse down by Brooklyn bridge, boys are trying to make an arrest." then I thought that they would never get the chance because Arachnid would get to him first. I ran out of the apartment into an alley and changed into my costume, swinging furiously through the city, good thing I practiced. I enter silently through a skylight on the roof of the warehouse sneaking up on my target I surprise him and kick the gun out of his hand then punching him to a pulp then before I was about to kill him I removed his mask and to my horror he was the same man from the store I webbed him up and went to think on the Chrysler building the thing I thought about the most was what my Dad had said just a week prior, "When you help someone you save them from a dark path."
