Chapter One: A New Beginning

It is a chilly December day in Zootopia. Snow flurries are coming down hard, as Nick and Judy are walking to the police station. Judy has plans to hang out with her family for the holiday. But Nick doesn't have any plans, so he'll just have to make some last-minute plans with Finnick.

The day was getting colder and colder, so cold that anyone who went on the slippery roads would crash. So, Nick and Judy were on alert all day. They were also on alert because a new bad guy is out stealing Christmas trees.

Nick keeps on thinking it's the grinch. But Judy keeps on saying how he is not real, although Nick is convinced. It is probably because he has watched that movie over one-hundred times. So, he has the feeling that it might be real.

"Nick. Are you okay?" Judy asked.

"Yeah, Judy, I'm fine…" Nick said.

"Okay."

"I am perfectly fine."

"You're not worrying about the Grinch, are you?"

"What? No?"

"Good. Because I just want you to know, he is not real."

"Ok."

Nick and Judy noticed the ZPD was covered in decorations, and all of them were different kinds. Some of them were trees, and the other ones were just gingerbread men. Nick wanted to eat the gingerbread.

But if Chief Bogo caught him, he would be fired, or even given a pink slip. As Nick went into his cubicle, he noticed it was decorated with a bunch of mistletoes, hanging from left and right.

They were mainly on the edge of his desk, so if Judy walked by…they would have to kiss.

Nick was not ready to kiss her.

He knows deep down because he already wants her to be his best friend, he wants to be with her. But not…in a romantic kind of way. That is for older mammals who live together and love each other forever.

Although they have talked about it a couple of times, it is not happening any time soon.

Not even on Christmas.

'I wonder how Judy will react to this, I doubt she will like it.' Nick thought as he looked at all the mistletoes.

Suddenly, a familiar bunny comes walking into Nick's room. She notices him freaking out a bit. And comes across a bunch of mistletoes. She hides in a corner, but realizes there is no way out of this.

She touches his lips and kisses him, a wave of emotions are hitting Nick now. He is feeling both embarrassed and scared. He is mainly feeling embarrassed because he kissed his best friend.

"I am sorry Judy! Please hate me!"

"Hate you? Why would I do that?"

"Because I kissed you."

"You did, and I loved it."

"Wait..You did?"

"Nick, I have always wanted to tell you this. But…Ever since we stopped Bellwether, and made Zootopia safe again. I was wondering. Would you like to go out with me on the day before Christmas?"

"That's Christmas Eve!"

"I know."

"Yes, I would love too–"

"I GOT THAT ON VIDEO!" Clawhauser said as he was holding out a camera, he was recording them kissing the entire time.

"Clawhauser. I am going to kill you."

"Not now Judy, I just got my claws done."

"Really?"

"Yup, see them."

"Dang it."

Nick and Judy both were blushing and they kept on looking at each other. The faces they made when they were done kissing was exciting, they looked like they were happy. Although, they are not now because Clawhauser saw them.

And they wanted this to be a private moment, as Judy sighed from her anger and rage. She started to have a flashback. It was when she first met Nick. And how he got to know her.

Flashback

Judy is sitting in the police car waiting for Nick to come back, he was busy stopping a robber from stealing a bunch of hair products. She was kind of confused about why he would do that. But she kind of knew why.

She did know the otter a little bit, but she kind of forgot who he was. When Nick came back panting. That was when Judy knew he had made an attack, the only time Nick hurts someone is when they make fun of Judy.

Or their relationship.

"What happened Nick?" Judy asked, in shock.

"That robber made fun of you.."

"How?"

"He called you dumb."

"Wow. And you…attacked him?"

"Yup, he will not be showing his face around you. Any time soon."

"Thanks Nick."

"No problem."

The two of them hugged and kissed, and waited to go back to work.

End flashback

As Judy was thinking about that memory, she suddenly remembered she need to talk with Chief Bogo about something—She was wanting to have her birthday at the ZPD this year, and Judy had no ideas for her birthday. All she wanted was a kiss from Nick, and something fancy.

She did not know that Chief Bogo was going to do something so crazy, that she would get mad. And make everything terrible. As Nick went to the room to get his stuff. He noticed Judy pacing.

It looked like she was nervous about something, he went over to her and asked her what was wrong.

"What's wrong, Carrots?" He asked.

"I'm worried about my birthday…."

"Why?"

"Because, this is my first birthday at the ZPD. And I'm a little bit scared. I do not want anyone messing this up."

"Don't worry, I will not let anyone mess up your special day."

"Really Nick?"

"Yes."

Judy felt herself tearing up. She is about to have the best birthday ever, in the snow, and at the office.
