Chapter Two: The Special Gift

"I can't wait for my birthday tomorrow!" Judy said to herself as she went into the office today. She was nervous because she did not know what everyone had planned for her. She thought that they forgot about her birthday, and that not even Nick had remembered, even though she loves that fox. He can be a bit crazy, and annoying.

Especially when he does not remember things. Usually Nick is a calm and collected fox, but when things start to go downhill and things start to not go his way. He can become a whole different fox. It happened once before, when Weaselton was out for a run. And he made Nick mad.

That was a sight, Judy never wanted to see again, she walked straight into her desk and noticed a note that said: HAPPY BIRTHDAY JUDY! MEET ME OUTSIDE THE ZPD AT THREE THIRTY! LOVE NICK!

She was shocked to see that he wrote love on the note. She did not even know that he loved her, but that might have been a sign that he did. Something about this note seemed a bit odd and worrisome. But she did not let that stop her. She just kept going.

The Chief was going to invite people that Judy knew to her birthday, including her parents. They were the main ones who were coming. And the only people Judy could handle.

She could not handle anyone else, although she could handle Nick. If he was not so annoying. "I hope today is a good day." She said to herself, she suddenly went into Chief Bogo's office and told him what she wanted.

"Excuse me? Chief Bogo? Can my parents come to my party?"

"What party?"

"The one we are hosting on the weekend."

"Oh, that party…Let me see…NO!"

"What? Why? They are going to be so upset if they can't come."

"I don't care Hopps."

"Why not?"

"Because, too many people are coming."

"Can we at least make room for mom and dad? Please."

"Fine."

Judy slightly felt better about the situation. But she kind of didn't, she wanted to hang out with Nick today. But with everyone planning her birthday she really couldn't do a lot today, and she didn't know if Nick was going to be a part of the party planning.

So she was on her own for today, as she went downtown her heart started to go fast. She did not know why because everything was fine, and she was not in trouble. Judy would never get in trouble on such a good day.

Even if she did, she could just blame Chief Bogo's bad attitude for it. She could also say that he is being a bit annoying.

But that does not make sense, because Chief Bogo would never yell at anyone. Not even his own officers.

"Judy? Are you okay?" A familiar voice said. A red fox came out wearing his regular outfit.

Judy remembered him right away.

"Nick! Where have you been?"

"I haven't been doing anything…why?"

"Because, everyone at the ZPD is planning my birthday. And I can't wait to see what you all have for me!"

Nick rubbed the back of his neck and paused for a moment, "actually Judy…I have something to say. I kind of forgot to give you a present this year. So, I'll go and get one right now."

"YOU WHAT!?" Judy was very upset.

"I am sorry." Nick said.

"I do not want to hear it."

"Why?"

"Because…it's my birthday."

"And?"

"You should not have to say sorry on someone's birthday."

"I'm sorry. I really am."

Judy ignored Nick and kept on walking back to work. She did not know what to do now, and she did not know if she was even going to have a birthday because of what Nick just did. Her eyes welled up with tears, and she soon started to cry.

She felt a pair of warm hands wrap around her, and when she looked around. It was Nick again, he did not want her to feel sad on this special day so he told her he would do something to make her feel special.

He was giving her the present by taking her out, the present was going out somewhere. But not where Judy thinks she is going. Nick got into the ZPD police car, and drove off with Judy confused.

She was very worried about getting back to work for the party, her confusion turned into excitement when she realized she was going to Bunny Burrow. Her hometown. Nick explained how he wanted to do something special for her.

And he thought taking her back home, where she belongs, would be something nice. Judy almost cried but stopped herself. She did not want to cry in front of her family. Especially her dad.

Because he will cry back, he is a crying person as well. Not as much as her mom, her mom barely cries.

Nick allows Judy to get out of the van, and he tells her to go talk with them. She runs over to them and starts hugging them. "MOM! DAD!" She said.

"Judy, you're back. Happy birthday."

"Thanks mom, thanks dad."

"We have a special gift for you."

"Really? What is it?"

Judy closed her eyes and allowed both of her parents to bring her the gift; it looked really big, and it almost looked like they got it from somewhere. The feeling of the box was heavy.

It did feel like someone was inside, but that was NOT the case. She kept on shaking it to really get a feel for what was inside. But nothing was moving as she was shaking, her body started to get anxious.

She tore the paper, and managed to put the paper on the ground. Nick was in the background videoing and trying not to cry.

Because he knew what was inside, and he knew what Judy wanted. Judy was shocked to see a wedding ring inside the box.

The fox ran over to her, and got down on one knee. Causing half of her family to come closer. "Judy Hopps…Will you marry me?" He asked, "YES!" Judy was scared and excited at the same time.

Her family was there watching, and when she came out holding hands with Nick. That made all of them want to jump up and down with joy. She did not know what was going on.

But Judy wanted to cry, and get really happy. 'Wow, how was I able to keep this away from her? I'm a good fox.' Nick thought as he was watching the scene. He saw a few of her sisters coming closer to her.

She hugged them, as they hugged her. She also noticed a note at the end of the ring.

It was like a big note taped onto the box. Judy opened it with a slight paw, and then when it wouldn't come off. She ripped. But she didn't rip the box. When she saw the note…Her whole face was covered in tears.

She could not believe it.

Dear Judy,

I want to spend my whole life with you. So, will you please accept this present and let me be your husband. I am super excited to start this new journey with you, and I am also excited to start a family.

I have always wanted to do something with you, related to weddings. But now that I have the courage. I thought about it, and I love you Judy Hopps. You are the best thing that has ever happened to me.

So, that is why I am asking you this. I will give you the best life you could possibly ask for. I will not yell at you, and I will not make fun of you. I really do hope that you and I enjoy our new life together.

Love, Nick

"Wow, Nick. How did you do this?"

"I had Chief take me to the card store, he got me an empty card. And I wrote those words in for you."

"They are really great words."

"I know."

"Why did you chose them?"

"Because they make me think of you."

"Really?"

"Yeah, and I love beautiful words."

"Why didn't you do a quote?"

"I don't know."

Nick and Judy shared a long kiss that lasted for about ten minutes. They separated and Judy's mom started asking about the wedding and when it was, Judy needed to think about that part.

But she will tell them when it is. She just needs to figure that out. Something about that wedding might be a little bit uncomfortable.

Not because a fox is marrying a bunny, but because of who will be there. Judy knows that she is happy with Nick. People are all going to make sure Judy and nick have a happy life.

And they are going to make sure that they have a happy life as well. And not a crazy one.

They are going to be the happiest couple ever.
