Evie's POV

Present Day-2019

"It's a beautiful day to save lives" was the words that filled my mind as I woke up this morning for my first official day for work. Today was my first day of my residency at Mercy West Medical Center. All of the hard work and determination had finally paid off and I was starting the brand new day as a pediatric resident.

The funny thing is, my determination and eagerness to become a doctor stemmed from my obsession of Grey's Anatomy but soon after it was apparent that this was something that I wanted to do for myself and save the less unfortunate. Even though the long seasons of Grey's Anatomy writing have gone downhill, Derek Sheppard's words has continued to stay with me and has motivated me through my journey.

Amidst my teenage years, I have endured hardship and losses has also motivated me to fulfill my residents. Losing your grandparents a year apart has made me numb to pain, but has inspired me to achieve the best for myself and make people's lives better.

"Moose, it's time to get up" I yelled. My dog is a lot like me. All he wants to do is sleep in all day, eat, and repeat the same thing all over again. He is also a night owl and likes to stay up all night whether it's playing his toys or running throughout my apartment. He is a Siberian Husky and has white and grey fur with cute gray eyes. He looks at me with his gray eyes and pouts.

"Awww, Moosey don't give that face. You shouldn't up late playing with your toys." I exclaimed. Him being up, is basically my fault. My dog doesn't sleep until I go to sleep and I was up all night anxious for this morning. I guess it's my nerves or something. I hate being the center of attention and I knew that my transfer to Scotland was going to make me be in the spotlight. Not only am I'm the newest resident in Scotland Memorial Hospital, but I knew that I was going to be a outlander because not only was I American but a black woman.

Moose runs to the kitchen and waits for me to prepare his food. I follow him to the kitchen and place his food in his bowl along with his water. I go upstairs to take shower and get dress for work. SZA's Music plays in the background while I shower.

I loudly sing to the words, "All I got is these broken clocks, I don't got no time to waste burning daylight..." I get out the slower and dry off with a towel. I decided to wear a blue blouse paired with grey slacks and black high heels. I pull off my bonnet and put moisturizer on my long curly hair. I walk downstairs and Moose barks letting me it's time for him to use the restroom.

"Ok,Ok boy! Let's go boy!" I said and smiled. Moose barks in response and I open the door and he goes to his favorite spot. After he is done, he runs back to me and we head to the car.

"You ready to visit Ms. Fitzgerald's." I say to Moose. He barks happily in response and I start the car heading to her house.

Ms. Fitzgerald is a elderly Scottish woman that I met on the visiting one of Scotland's most famous touring spots: Craigh Na Dun. She is a sweet lady who lost her husband several years ago. She lives close to Craigh Na Dun so she doesn't mind watching Moose. She offered to watch Moose for free while I work. Since I am fairly new to Scotland, I glad for the extra help.

As I drive to her place, I enjoy the essence and scenery of Scotland. With its green and voluptuous mountains and the city lights ahead me, keeps me entralled with this city even more. As I'm driving, incoming call comes from my car speaker. It's Cree.

"Hi, Ahote. What's my sweet girl been up to?" Cree asked.

Cree's like my unofficial father figure. He practically raised me and checked on almost everyday every since my parents died. He was best friends with my father but both of my parents tragically died in a car accident when I was 8 years old. He calls me Ahote which means Restless One in Native American. He's half Cherokee and half Navajo. Since He's fluent in Cherokee, he has taught me his native language throughout the years that he has raised me and now I'm fluent in the language.

"Well, Agidoda! Scotland is much beautiful than I anticipated. I'm a little nervous about my new job" I stated hesitantly. Agidoda means Father in Cherokee.

"You worry too much, Ahote...you remember what I tell you?"

"Don't let the white man get to me?" I awkwardly laughed.

Agidoda laughs.

"Don't worry about what others think. The Great Spirit shall guide you through the perilous journeys despite all adversities that you may face. In other words, Listen to your heart." My dad exclaimed wholeheartedly.

I tend to overthink decisions that I make as a doctor because I'm so worried about what could potentially happen. Since I'm a black female doctor, my ideas and thoughts are undervalued unlike some of my white colleagues. Medicine can be intimidating to black women because of huge racial disparities but Agidoda never let me forget that I can do anything that I put my mind to regardless of any situation.

Cree was hesitant about me moving to Scotland but the Great Spirits called to him in a dream that it was my destiny to go to Scotland. Surprisedly enough, he supported me fully and funded my flight here and provided me extra money.

We talked some more about his plans for today and his basketball tournament that he holding for the reservation. He is raising money for the Missing Afro-Indigenous Women Awareness Foundation. He strongly advocates for the native and black community. The main people of color who are often overlooked when it comes for searching for missing women and children.

After our conversation, I finally made it to Mrs. Fitzgeralds house. I hop off the car and open the door for Moose. I start to knock on the door and opens quickly and see Mrs. Fitzgerald.

"Lass, it's bout time you come! I was about to report you missing. You look quite bonnie, today."

"You are too funny, Mrs. Fitzgerald. Moose has his toys and food. If you need anything, just call or text me. I should back by 7:00." Mrs. Fitzgeralds was quite dramatic sometimes I was only late by 10 minutes. I texted her that I will be there 10 minutes.

"Tis nae bother, lass. And call me Sara. Me and moose will have fun, won't we, lad?

Moose immediately barks at that. I burst out laughing. Dogs are so smart. I swear they understand almost everything we're saying. They only get stubborn when they don't won't to do something. Moses immediately invites himself and runs to the living room waiting on Mrs.Fitzgerald.

"Ok, see you later." I exclaimed. Sara says bye to me. Before leaving, I look at Moose to see if he was going to say bye to me. As Moose looks at me and runs back to me, licks my hand and barks and returns back his spot. I smile at that, my baby is in good hands.

My shift at the hospital was a long one but I enjoyed what the day brought me. I met with other doctors who were so polite and nice and was curious about my life. I met one guy named Lukas and he was funny as hell. He's from Iceland and moves to Scotland after getting applying for Scotland's residency program. He had me crackling throughout the day because he would gossip and talk about how the nurses had a stick up their ass because Dr. Spencer slept with half of the nurse staff. Dr. Spencer was arrogant but is handsome as hell but he reminded you every second how much a douche he was.

"I'm serious. I think one of the nurses might be pregnant. The way he swinging, he got these girls going on a frenzy. Is it bad I want a taste? Why am I'm the only man single right now?" Lukas whined.

"Boy you're a mess, I'm single. Never kissed or dated anyone if that helps" I said.

"Girl, it doesn't help. It's just makes me even sadder. How are you single and dated, you are super gorgeous! Don't worry I'm going to make sure you get some Scottish—

"Lukas, Shhh! You talking too loud and I don't think you supposed to say that while we're pediatric wing."

A 13 year old looks at us weirdly, before returning back to his game on his phone.

"Mind your business. Anyway does that mean you never— I cut him off before he continues.

"Yes never, now let's back to this patient." I say embarrassingly.

After our shift was over, I head to Mrs. Fitzgerald to pick up Moose. Once I made it to door, She opened the door before I could even knock.

"Lass, I think yur dog was ready to see you. He's been whining for a hour, now." She exclaimed.

"Oh, Moosey you missed me?" I said in my baby voice. He immediately goes to me and starts licked my feet and legs.

"Thank you for taking care for him."

"Tis' no problem for me, ma'am. Take care now. I think yur dog wants to walk around. He's been in the house with me all day"

"Ok I will. I'll just walk him around Craigh Na Dun since it's not far from your house. We'll be right back."

"Be careful, lass. I've heard of some wild stories about that place"

"Will do, Mrs. Fitzgerald." I say. What's the worse that can happen?

As I take in the beauty of the place that is Craigh Na Dun, I look at Moose running around happily and barking. I smile at him and keep walking until I see the so-called magical stones.

"Moose, don't run too far" I shouted. He doesn't listen to goes closer to stones and I run after him. All of a sudden, I feel dizzy and black out.
