Chapter 6: "A Great Day"
I felt a cramp in my ass and my head was throbbing. I opened my eyes, squinting at the light that poured in through the large windows. It was the last time that would drink that much. I looked down, seeing her asleep in my lap. Her hair covered her like a blanket. I brushed a few hairs out of her face. I was tracing my finger along her markings. For a two-thousand-year-old demon, she still looked so young. She had a mature look about her, but without all of these markings; anyone would think she was a regular woman in her thirties. My legs were beginning to cramp but I didn't want to move and risk waking her up. I squinted at the clock, it was ten in the morning. It wasn't like I had anywhere to be. I could stay like this for a while longer. I rested my head against the door.
"What am I doing?" I whispered to myself.
"Enduring a hangover it seems."
I looked down and she was smiling up at me.
"How long have you been awake?"
"A little over an hour. I was just to comfortable to move. How's your head?"
I ran my fingers through my hair. "It's spinning."
She pushed off the floor and went into the bathroom. she came with some painkillers and a glass of water.
"Take these." She said handing them to me
"Go back to your apartment and get cleaned up. We're going to have some breakfast."
I tossed the pills into my mouth and gulped the water down. "Still as bossy as ever I see."
"Yes, that will never change. So, you might as well get used to it. Now go. We leave in an hour."
We in fact did not leave for an hour. She made me change. Twice; and that took an extra thirty minutes. Plus she messed with my hair. We had driven to a fancy part of the city. I parked the car and I got out of the car, opening the door for her. She really did dress to impress. I held out my hand and she took it. She stepped past me as I closed the door, as she let go of my hand. I followed her inside. Turns out she had this reservation for two. No doubt for her and Akira. We took the elevator up to the top floor. The moment we'd stepped off. I noticed people staring at her. Men and women. Honestly, I couldn't blame them for it. We sat at a table in the corner. The view was beautiful. I caught her staring out the window. She was back to her old self. Perfect, and not a hair out of place. Her hair was neatly tucked behind her ears. Diamond studs in them. She wore a simple white dress, that hugged her which explained all the staring.
"Has something caught your eye?"
I looked down at the menu. "I don't know what you're talking about. It's everyone else that staring at you."
"They are not only staring at me. You do clean up nicely, especially with a little help." she joked.
I laughed. "No one here is looking at me, Kimi. I mean look at me."
"I am."
I looked up at her and she had this serious look on her face. The waiter came over and she ordered for us both. I was fine with it because I had never been here before anyway. He took our orders and filled our glasses with water before he walked away. I felt uncomfortable under her gaze for some reason.
"Do you think you're not worth looking at?"
I shrugged. "I'm not sure."
"Is it because of her, because of Kagome? If you think that the reason she didn't choose you has to do with your looks; you're completely wrong. You are very easy on the eyes." She said sipping her water.
"I guess it's all in my imagination."
She gave me a small smile. "We tend to suffer more in our imagination than in reality."
She pointed over my shoulder. "You see."
I looked over my shoulder. I woman smiled at me, and waved. I turned my back to her.
"Not your type?"
"No, and I'm not interested."
The waiter brought our food and we said thank you. Kimi watched him walk away before speaking again.
"Are you tired of brunettes? Or are you looking for older, or younger? I've heard the younger people say that the best way to get over someone is to get under someone else." she said jokingly.
I scoffed. "Is that what you were trying to do with Akira?"
I hadn't meant it to come out the way that it did. It sounded like a dig, and judging by the look on her face, that is exactly how she took it. I don't even know why I said what I did. I was going through a tough time and I shouldn't be taking it out on her. She didn't deserve that. She slid her chair back and left me sitting there. I listened to the sound of her clicking heels fading away.
Shit.
I tried knocking on her door, but there was no answer. I knew she was in there, I could hear her moving around in the apartment. I was a jerk, she was right not to answer me. I stared at the clock on my wall. I wasn't sure what to do. Kimi had been occupying my time lately. So, now that she didn't want to talk to me, I was back to doing nothing. I was back to being alone. There was a knock at my front door. I don't remember the last time I ran that fast for anything. I nearly tripped over my couch trying to open the door. I swung it open almost ripping it off its hinges.
"Oh. Sesshomaru."
"Were you expecting someone else?"
"No." I lied. "What are you doing here?"
"Hn. I did say that I was going to keep my distance, but I still wanted to check on you, and see how you were doing. I care about you. You and I are brothers, and that will never change." he said walking past me.
No sense of boundaries. Just like Kimi.
I sighed, closing the door. "So, are you two still keeping your distance?" I asked sitting across from him.
"Do you still have lingering feelings for my wife?"
I said nothing.
"Then you and I both know the answer to that."
"I am fine, so can this health check please be over?"
"I just want to see how you're trying to move on. If you are trying at all."
"It has been less than a week since you excommunicated me from your lives. What kind of miracle did you expect me to perform? How do you expect me to try?"
"That is not what I meant. All I wanted was to see how my brother is doing. I know this is not easy for you. Nor is it for us. It is hurting you. It is bothering me and it is hurting Kagome. She asks about you. She wonders how you are doing., but until you can move on there is nothing that we can do about any of this. t will hurt and hurt and hurt, and then one day it won't. Once that day comes, and I hope that day comes soon. We both do."
He had gotten a lot better at talking about his feels, and I was staring to hate it.
"Are you finished with your speech Sesshomaru?"
He pinched the bridge of his nose and sighed. " Kouga I did not come here to fight with you."
"Then don't."
He sighed, leaning back into the chair. "Fine. So, are you staying away from my mother?"
"Alright Sesshomaru, it's time for you to go. This has been a lovely visit. Let's not do it again any time soon. You said you would stay away and keep your distance. So keep it this time. Thank you." I said opening the door.
He stood, and walked out and I slammed the door behind him.
What a great day this has been.
