Chapter 2
Jinjing walked to Yue's house, where Yue is decorating for the Winter Feast. Yue looked up, saw Jinjing, walked up to her, and hugs her. Jinjing hugs her back.
"Hey, Jinjing. It's great to see you," Yue said releasing the young red panda.
"It's great to see you too, Yue," Jinjing said.
"Well, come in, come in. I'll make some tea," Yue said. Jinjing and Yue came to the kitchen, Yue grabbed the tea kettle, filled it with water, put it on the stove, and sat down with Jinjing at the kitchen table.
"So, how are you?" Yue asked.
"Good. How are you?" Jinjing said.
"Good. I've been decorating," Yue said.
"Yeah. I can see that. Po is hosting the Winter Feast at the Jade Palace," Jinjing said.
"Really? That's great news. I bet that he's exciting," Yue said.
"He really is. The Feast in the Palace is very elegant. A very sophisticated event. I'm pretty sure that Po will need help. But…" Jinjing said. Yue knew something is wrong.
"But what?" Yue asked. The tea kettle whistles and then Yue picked up the kettle, pours green tea into the cups, handed Jinjing her cup, and sat back down with her cup.
"Thanks. But, I saw Mr. Ping's face when Uncle Shifu told him about the Winter Festival. He's very upset about it. I know that Po spends the holidays with Mr. Ping, they do it every year," Jinjing said before drinking her tea.
"Po is the Dragon Warrior, right?" Yue said.
"Yes, he is. I feel so sorry for Mr. Ping that he won't be with Po during the holiday," Jinjing said. Yue gently takes Jinjing's hand with her own, comforting her.
"I'm sorry that you feel that way, dear. You know what your mother and I did for the holidays?" Yue asked.
"What?" Jinjing asked.
"Ever since Dongmei arrived at the Valley of Peace, we always go to those who don't have anywhere else to go, we cooked for about 20 people, and we have done it even when you were born. Then, with your mother gone, I still carry on that tradition. But, I think I'll find something else to do for the holidays. And speaking of which, your Uncle Shifu came to me yesterday, I asked him if it would be alright if I give you the sun lantern you made when you were little if you came here, and he said that it'll be alright. So, here you go," Yue said as she gives Jinjing the sun lantern of her mother, Yue, and herself at the age of 3. Tears welled up in her eyes.
"Thank you so much, Yue. You don't have to do this," Jinjing said wiping her tears away.
"You're welcome," Yue said. Jinjing sobbed and then Yue got up from her seat and comfort the red panda. After that, Jinjing and Yue are outside of Yue's house.
"Thanks for the sun lantern and the tea, Yue. I'll see you soon," Jinjing said.
"You're welcome, I'll see you soon too," Yue said.
*KFP*
Jinjing is walking with Shifu and Po inside the Jade Palace, which is crowded with workers as part of preparations for the Feast.
"There are eighteen gestures you must memorize for the right, nineteen for the left," Shifu said.
"Eighteen for the right, nineteen—eighteen to the left…" Po said. While Shifu, Jinjing, and Po keep walking through the Palace, Shifu and Jinjing stopped, near the table where all the Masters will meet during the Feast.
"This is Feng, the Palace artist. He will be your official portrait," Shifu said. Feng begins to make a portrait of Po.
"Pleased to mee—What? Okay, I'm gonna need a do-over. I think I was blinking," Po said as Feng gives the portrait of Po he had painted. Po, Shifu, and Jinjing continue the tour and they approached the table of the Masters, which has over a part of the necessary to set the table.
"This is where you will seat all of the Kung Fu Masters," Jinjing said.
"My dad is gonna love this feast! You know, he's never even been to the Palace," Po said. They stop near the table. Jinjing's face fell.
"I am sorry, Po. There are no guests allowed," Shifu said.
"I can't bring my dad? But he's my dad. We always spend the holiday together!" Po said.
"Sorry," Jinjing silently said to Po.
"I understand, Po. I remember the day I departed my family and committed myself entirely to the duties of Kung Fu, (A/N)" Shifu said.
"When I was brought into the Jade Palace, I couldn't spend the holiday with Yue, but I get to see her before the Feast," Jinjing said.
"You are the Dragon Warrior now, and therefore this is your duty above all other bonds," Shifu said. Jinjing, Po, and Shifu continue walking.
"Now, in your quest for perfection, these instructions must be executed to the letter. Guard these scrolls containing…" Shifu said. Po becomes overwhelmed as Shifu continues talking to Po and a lot of stuff is in his hands until Shifu mentioned the Golden Ladle
"Wha…" Po said.
"Po, hire a chef, present them with the Golden Ladle," Shifu said as he gives Po the box with the Golden Ladle inside and places it on top of the bunch of stuff.
"Hmm," Po said.
"Do you have any questions?" Shifu asked.
"Uh-uh!" Po said.
"Po, do not let me down," Shifu said as he turns and walks away.
"Don't worry, Master Shifu. I got everything under controooll…" Po said as all the objects he had in his arms fall off, then Feng made a portrait of Po while he started to picking up the objects off the ground. "What?" Po asked as turns around and groaned. Jinjing shook her head.
"Let me help," Jinjing said as she started to pick up the objects that Po dropped.
"Thanks, Jinjing. You didn't have to do that," Po said.
"No problem. I want to help, it's what I was taught. Help others. Hey, I know that you can't spend the holiday with your dad and it's really that important to you. So, I'll tell you what I think you should do," Jinjing said.
"Okay," Po said.
"You should follow your heart and do what you need to do," Jinjing said.
"Thanks, Jinjing," Po said smiling.
"You're welcome, Po. I'll be in my room if you need me," Jinjing said. She hugged Po and he hugged her back. Then, she left.
After Jinjing helped Po, she headed down to the student barracks to her room. She sits on her bed, staring at the sun lantern that Yue gave her.
"I don't know what to do, Mom. Po's hosting the Feast at the Palace, but he realized that he can't spend the holiday with his dad. I need help," Jinjing said. There's a knock on her door. Jinjing looks up from the sun lantern.
"Come in," she said. Tigress, Viper, Crane, Monkey, and Mantis came to Jinjing's room.
"Hey, little one," Tigress said.
"Hey, guys. What are you doing here?" Jinjing asked.
"We came to check on you," Crane said.
"To make sure that you're okay," Viper said. Mantis and Monkey nod their heads in agreement.
"Thanks, guys, but I'll be fine. If I needed you, guys. I'll let you know," Jinjing said.
"Okay, then," Monkey said.
"We're gonna go. We'll see you later," Mantis said.
"Okay. See you later, guys," Jinjing said. Tigress hugged Jinjing and the female red panda hugged Tigress back. The Furious Five left Jinjing's room.
Author's Note: However in Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness (2011-2016) in Season 1, Episode 25: "Father Crime", Shifu and his father Shirong traveled to other villagers to sell fake amulets ever since he was young. Then when Shifu was 12, his dad dropped him off at the Jade Palace, promising him he will return in five minutes. Shifu waited until nightfall, and Master Oogway found him and took him in, making him a student at the Jade Palace
