Chapter 2 - faking it!
Flashback 6 years go.
Lilly had no idea how she had ended up in Fitzroy's office, but here she was, her and her brother Luke. Fitzroy looked at the pair in front of him, both highly trained, both with perfect scores on the gun range and both willing to follow orders.
"So, I know you're both wondering why I brought you here."
Both nod at him.
"I have an assignment for you both. First, I need to introduce you to someone, someone that outside of this room and our arrangement, doesn't exist."
The door opens then, in walks a man, neither of them have ever seen before. Lilly gives him the once over. Tall, good looking, the usual type.
"This is Six, he is part of the Sierra program. He needs some help with his next assignment."
"How can we help sir?" Luke asked. Luke had always been one to follow orders, he had been in the army for 5 years before he was recruited by the CIA, Lilly on the other hand, had hand to hand skills that were off the charts and the CIA had watched her from the beginning of her police career, she was recruited straight out of the academy.
"It's simple really, I need your sister to pretend to be the dutiful wife, while you will be their go to agent. We have a house set up, you and Six will move in and play the loving newly married couple. Luke will be a few blocks down; he will be there to keep us updated on what is happening and be back up if it is needed."
Lilly looks from her brother, to Six and back to Fitzroy.
"Sir, I'm not sure…."
"I am, Agent Daniels, you are the best agent for this job. The people we are after are highly skilled, but I doubt that they have your hand-to-hand skills. Now you and Six here will be leaving here today, the movers are already on the way to the house."
Lilly knew better than to argue, this was going to happen whether she liked it or not.
"There are some clothes waiting for you in my bathroom. Let's get you changed. Then you and Six can go and start your life together. Luke, I'm gonna brief you on a few things and then give you the address to your home later on.
"No problem, sir."
Lilly got up and went towards the bathroom. Hung up with a pair of denim shorts, a tank top and an oversized shirt, on the floor she noticed a pair of vans and then she noticed on the sink were a set of rings. She slowly took off her gym clothes, she had been planning to work out before she got pulled into this meeting. She pulled on the clothes and slipped the rings on. They felt alien to her. She decided to put her hair in a messy bun, as they were meant to look like a married couple moving into their forever home. As she stepped out, she noticed Six had changed into jeans and t-shirt, she then noticed him slipping on his own wedding band.
She spotted Luke as he made his way over. "You got this kiddo."
"I know Luke. Be careful ok."
As twins Lilly was 6 minutes older than Luke though he acted the eldest out of the pair. They gave each other a quick hug and Luke headed off. Lilly looked back at the man, she was going to be fake married to and then over at Fitzroy.
"Ok, there is a car waiting for you both downstairs. Luke will make contact in a few days. Six you can fill her in on the way."
Six just nodded and left the room, Lilly followed him. For the first 15 minutes of the drive, he was silent. This wasn't going to be the least bit entertaining if she let him stay that way.
"You gonna fill me in, or just sit there?"
Six glanced at her. He was used to this. He worked alone; all Sierra agents worked alone. Sometimes, there would be handles but nothing like this. "The target is one of the biggest known arms dealers in the USA. To look at him you would have no idea. He lives in a nice neighbourhood, kids, wife, they play the happy family."
"Ok, so what's the plan here? Befriend them and then what? I mean a guy like that isn't gonna just let anyone into his inner circle."
"He won't but the wife will. She runs clubs and shit for the wives and partners in the neighbourhood."
"So that's why you need me."
"Yep, think you can play the loving housewife?"
"Looks like we're going to find out. First of all, I need a name from you, I mean I can't really call you six."
"We are James and Rachel Winchester. Married 3 months ago. We met in a bar. You were studying history at the time, and I was working construction. I proposed after your first lecture as a history professor. We got married 18 months later and here we are."
An hour or so later they arrive at their new home. The movers are taking stuff into the house. The first thing Lilly noticed was the perfect set of nosey neighbours standing to the left of their house. Jumping out of the car, Lilly wraps her arms around Six's waist and kisses his lips lightly. She smiled up at him, then leaned into him, like she was whispering in his ear. "You're meant to look happy."
Six noticed the eyes on them then, he picked her up and spun her round, her legs wrapping around his waist, before she lightly kissed him again.
Later that evening, there was a knock on the door, Lilly ran over. There was a lady about 10 years older than her, standing in front of her. "Hey."
"Hi, we saw you moving in earlier and well, I wanted to pop over and say hi." She held out a basket full of various baked items.
"Thanks, I'm Rachel." Lilly replied. Six appeared behind her then, wrapping his arms around her waist and resting his head on her shoulder. "And this idiot is my husband, James."
"Julie, and it's lovely to meet you both. If you need anything my husband, Robert and I are just over the street about 2 doors down. You should both come to the monthly get together on Sunday. You'll get to meet everyone that way. "
"Count us in. we'll see you then."
Julie turns to leave, and Lilly shuts the door. Six grabs a muffin out of the basket of goodies and smirks.
…
A few days later they were heading to the party. Lilly had managed to bake some cupcakes. They didn't look great, but she was trying to play her part. As they headed in, all eyes were on them, the new couple in town. Lily places the cupcakes on the end of one of the tables, she looks to see Six grabbing them some drinks, he passes her a bottle of beer.
Julie spots them and hurries over to start introducing them to people. Lilly was already over suburban life. If this is what housewives did day in day out, she would be out of her mind in minutes. Six had been dragged away to talk to the men, which he was happy about, as it included their target. Lilly listened to these women, chat about book clubs, bake sales and what the latest offers in town were gonna be. She was playing her part, she added what she could and nodded along. She was brought out of her thoughts when the questions were turned on her.
"So how long have you two been married?"
"3 months. Still in the honeymoon period." Lilly said, adding a dopy grin and a quick look towards Six.
"He's very handsome. You're going to have beautiful babies."
Lilly nearly chokes on her beer. She had to remember herself for a second.
"You think? We haven't really discussed them yet; I think we're both just trying to enjoy each other."
"As you should, I mean all the practice, you'll be having babies in no time."
Lilly nearly downed her beer. She was gonna need a lot more, if she was going to get through this.
As the evening drew on, Six noticed that Lilly was starting to look drunk, and as she got up to go grab another beer, she nearly stumbled over.
He grabbed her and made it look like he was just pulling her in for a hug.
"You're drunk?"
"You would be too, if you had to listen to them. I mean, they're talking about us having babies!"
Six giggled slightly. He'd also had to listen to a few comments about how his wife was hot and that keeping his hands to himself must be hard. He decided they had done enough socialising, he had managed to get himself invited to the guy's weekly poker game, so that was a start. They said their goodbyes and headed back towards their house.
As they made it through the door, Six turned to see Lilly pulling her top over her dress over her head,
"What are you doing?"
"I need to shower."
"You're stripping in the hallway."
"Stop acting like you ain't ever seen a woman naked before. Fuck, Mr uptight and serious."
Lilly unclasped her bra and threw it back at him.
"Here catch this."
Boobs uncovered she went up the stairs to the ensuite in the master bedroom. She felt more sober after she'd held her head under the shower for 15 minutes. When she came out, Six was sitting on the bed.
"Is this what this whole assignment is gonna be like?"
"Like what? Having to listen to people tell me how good looking my husband is and how beautiful our kids will be?"
"You getting wasted?"
Lilly walked towards him. Six stood up. She stabbed in the chest with her finger. This self-righteous prick could fuck off. The reason why she couldn't stand the talk of kids, was because she had the scar on her stomach, from the bullet that had killed her baby, and would probably stop her from ever having anymore.
"You have no idea about me or my life."
"Fill me in"
"Fuck you! You have no right to my personal life."
This was the first time Six noticed her, the real Lilly. He grabbed her wrist and pinned them behind her back, she struggled, and he didn't let up his hold, he lent forward and kissed her. As she relaxed, he let go of her wrist. He didn't see it coming. She slapped him so hard.
"Don't ever touch me without my permission again!"
Lilly turns away from him and heads out of the room. The sooner this assignment was over the better.
