Chapter 1

A Quest

A bright light beams down on a certain location in a world of dice and fate. And inside that bright beam were eight soldier-like people, including two vehicles that were jeeps, both with full tanks then they set up their camp. After that they went into a tent for a briefing on what to do,

"Alright recruits, here we have an assignment for you guys. Of course we will be on overwatch also one of us will be with you, meet 1st Lieutenant Lex. She'll be with you guys and will be evaluating you to see if you are capable enough and to see if you guys are fit enough," says the commander of the fireteam

"Here's your assignment for training and experience, goblin slaying. As easy as it sounds, don't let your guard down, Okay?" said the Squad leader

"All you need to do is one how to deal with such opponents like said goblins, and then we'll move onto different species of creatures,"

"For now let's go and pick up the contract,"

"Sir, where is our contractor?" asked one of the Recruits

"All the way in a city, let's see if you can keep your composure," replied back the squad leader

All of them go into two separate jeeps one with a M41H light anti-air gun and another with an extended troop carrier. As they drive over to the city they pass several carriages, so one of the recruits asks something,

"Hey, is it really a good idea to drive a jeep within a civilization with such low technology?"

"It shouldn't bother them too much as long we don't put too much attention to ourselves, also that once we're done with our job they'll probably forget us anyways," Answers Lex

Then they pass a certain carriage that has from what it seems two people, one is a tall figure with a full set of armor and an unusual helmet, the other is a medium figure with farmer-like clothing and red hair. As they pass them, one of the experienced mercenary says something ridiculous,

"Hey, how about we go back and ask the locals for directions?"

"That's a no 4-4," says the squad leader.

Everybody else agreed as well. As they get close to the city they are greeted by the guards near the gate,

"Hey! Where are you guys from and state your business," says one of the guards

The recruits look at the experienced mercs with confusion as to what the guard said, then one of the mercs said,

"We're from a country far, faraway from here, and we're part of the adventurers guild"

"Really? Well then show me some identification then," questioned the guard

Then the squad leader pulls out a tag under his armor, it looked like a bright red tag then the guard looked at it then he said,

"Hmm, well it looks like you're good. But what about your companions?" The guard asked

"They're with me and I'll pay the toll if need be," the squad leader replied back

The guard and squad leader looked back at each other with intent, then the guard gave in. Allowed them to pass with a toll and that was all. So then they slowly drove right in. As they slowly pass each building getting stares by the people in the town, they reach the adventurers guild. They parked the jeeps near the back of the building. Two of the experienced mercs hang back to guard the jeeps while the rest went into the guild.

As the Mercs entered the guild the entire guild of adventures looked over at the door. They see the mercs entering expecting them to give a quest with high pay but instead the squad leader looks at the board, then he picks up a thin paper off the board that has a goblin slaying quest that tells them that every confirmed kill is a gold coin and it was near a farm north of the city. Then the squad leader gives the paper to the girl that is on the other side of the desk.

"So this quest? They'll appreciate the help" she looks at the mercs in heavy armor and the ones in light armor "It seems like you guys want to take this quest, yes?"

"Yes, we do," the squad leader replied back

"Okay then, good luck!" the girl replied back

They exit the guild though the front door then they go around the back of the guild to their jeeps. They saw both of the mercs that were guarding the jeeps playing with little kids, but they kept an eye on the jeeps while they were at it as well, which was good. They went over to them and told them it was time to go so they said to the little kids that they were going so the kids were sad. They got in their jeeps then they checked out the town for a bit but then it got late. So then they started heading toward the farm.

They approach the farm and from there they start to slow down, then once they get near the gate of the farm they see the same person with red hair again going into the farm's cabin. So as they enter through the gate they park near the entrance to the cabin. Then they knocked on the front door of the cabin.

Thump*

Thump*

Then they could hear a commotion from inside it. From the sounds of it, it was a middle aged man arguing with a young woman about who's going to open the door then the arguing stopped. The door swung open toward the young women,

"Hello! Welcome to our farm," the young women said

"Hello, we have came here for an extermination," said the squad leader

"Oh you guys were the ones that took that commission?" said the man in the back in the cabin

"Yeah, is something the matter?" asked on of the Recruits

"Sorta yeah, it's that another person took it already and by now they should be done by now,"

Then Lex says something,

"Hey there's someone behind us, a few meters away"

They looked behind them then they saw a tall figure with metal armor covered in grime, with a sword of odd length, and the same unusual helmet. It looked like they were going towards them and when they reached them the person in armor just went past them through the door, then placed a small bag onto the table. Once the bag hit the table it sounded like a bag full of coins. Then they say,

"Rent"

Their voice was of a man. His voice was cold as steel but clear. So the recruits looked at his armor and compared it to theirs, but the experts shutted them up. The man turned around then finally saw the mercs then asked,

"Do you have a quest, and if you do, are they goblins?"

"Yes we do," the squad leader replied

The man in armor looked at the mercs equipment. Then he says,

"I see, how many are there? Are there any wanderers?"

"We are not sure but from the Commission it says there were at least ten or more," The squad leader replied

"I see," the man replied back

"Anyways we were planning to start the raid when it hit dawn and we want to be there ealy as we can so we came here first,"

Then the man in armor thought about it then he said,

"So it was my commission?"

"It was yours? Then it looks like that we have the same goal," the squad leader said

"I believe it starts in a bit and there will be others here as well to help," the man said

"I see, I guess we'll provide back support when you need it," said the squad commander

The recruits look at the commander and start to worry about what is going on. Then they look out behind them then they see an entire caravan of adventurers on carriages on their way to the farm.

"Hey! Was this part of the contract?" asked one of the recruits

"Yeah it seems so, looks like I didn't fully read it I guess," said the squad leader.
