Disclaimer: I don't own Weathering With You.
"Guess it's not gonna be a white Christmas this year," Hina murmured. "More like a wet Christmas."
She watched as the countless drops of water trickled down the window she was gazing through. Tokyo was being pelted with as much heavy rain as usual. There had been no end to the storm that had been spurting over the city for over a year.
Hina rested her forehead against the glass as she observed the rain through the window. This endless storm would have been easy for her to stop when she was the Sunshine Girl. She had managed to bring sunny weather for so many people from Keisuke Suga and his daughter, Moka, to a nice old woman and her friendly grandson. In fact, the sunshine she had brought to the city would have still been here - had she been left to fade from existence. The good weather would have lasted, even though she would not.
All this rain which was never going to stop was down to a certain boy who had gone out of his way to bring her back. He had fought against the law and gotten into a lot trouble to save her - at the cost of any more sunshine in the city.
"That doesn't matter, Hina."
Hearing the voice of the very boy who had rescued her speak to her, Hina turned away from the window. Her apartment was very bright and colourful compared to how bleak and grey the storm outside was. It was filled with luminous lights and pretty decorations with a Christmas tree taking pride of place.
Standing in front of tree, gazing towards Hina with his hands behind his back and a loving smile on his face, was Hodaka.
"It doesn't matter if it's going to be a wet Christmas - just as long as you're here," he told her softly. "I'd take a hundred Christmases with rain - over a single Christmas without you."
Hina's eyes twinkled as she felt her cheeks hearing up. She placed a hand over her heart as it raced inside her chest. If there was one thing which never failed to make her feel warm in spite of the never-ending storm, it was the kind words Hodaka always said out of his love for her.
"Hodaka…"
His smile softening, Hodaka stepped towards the former Sunshine Girl to stand before her - before pulling his hands out from behind his back.
"Merry Christmas, Hina!"
Hina gasped, her blue eyes widening.
Hodaka was holding something out towards her. It was long and thin - but she wasn't able to make out what it was due to the shiny red wrapping paper that was covering it up.
"What is it?" she asked.
"Why it's your Christmas present from me," Hodaka answered simply as he gently placed the gift into his girlfriend's hands. "You'll find out what it is if you open it up."
With her face filling with excitement, Hina began to pull away the red wrapping paper. She could hardly wait to find out what her gift from her boyfriend was. To this day, she continued to wear the ring he had given her for her birthday (which had been served to him by a very kindly young lady at the jewellery store). What present could Hodaka have possibly gotten her for Christmas?
She found out as the last of the wrapping paper fell away. The lights from the Christmas tree shimmered onto the stunned expression forming in her face as she discovered what her her boyfriend had given her as a festive gift.
It was an umbrella.
"That would be usual for you, wouldn't it?" Hodaka remarked. "You'll find good use out of that around here, won't you, Hina?"
Hina averted her gaze from her gift to the one who had given it to her. It was clear from the cheerful smile Hodaka was giving her that he was being completely serious. He sincerely believed that this was an ideal Christmas gift to give her for Christmas. It had certainly proved to be a surprise for the former Sunshine Girl, having not been anything she was expecting.
"I sure will," Hina agreed with a nod as she took hold of the umbrella by its handle - before using it to bonk Hodaka on his head.
"Ow!" Hodaka yelped, rubbing to spot where his girlfriend had batted him with the present he had given her. "What was that for?"
"Oh, Hodaka…" Hina rolled her eyes at the thoughtless of her boyfriend and his gift to her - before grabbing hold of Hodaka to pull him into a tight embrace - where she passionately kissed him.
You'll never change, will you, Hodaka? Hina thought, closing her eyes as she pressed her lips against his own. You're the same silly, dorky, clueless boy as ever - but not even that will ever stop me from loving you.
The end.
