Jaune's heart stopped, he was positive it had. The silence after the headmaster had asked him about his gauntlet stretched for several seconds while he gathered his thoughts. He had already resolved to tell his team, and had already told Ruby most of what he knew but they would be fighting at his side for the next four years at least, he hoped for years after that as well. Could he trust-

"Mr. Arc," Headmaster Ozpin pulled him out of his thoughts, "I understand that you may be wary to answer, I am simply curious about how you acquired such an artifact. I take from your silence that you are aware of what is attached to your arm, young man."

"Kinda hard not to…," Crap, he hadn't meant to say that. Taking a second he rubbed the back of his neck. Screw it, he figured, the headmaster seemed to know about the gauntlet already. Besides, this was the headmaster of Beacon, if anyone was safe to talk to it was him. "I was just surprised I guess, didn't know anyone else would know about it."

Ozpin sipped from his mug and leaned forward. "Trust me Mr. Arc, there is much out there I am aware of. Ancient artifacts of lost civilizations are especially of interest to me."

"You mean the Oni?" Jaune put his other hand on the gauntlet, it felt like it pulsed in response.

"Yes, nothing related to them has been seen for some time, they are thought to have died out. For you to have that gauntlet means that isn't true."

"I mean… the ones that gave me this were spirits so you might be right."

Ozpin leaned back. "Spirits you say, did they say why they gave you the gauntlet.?"

"Just that they wanted me to slay something called genma, not sure what they meant though. I figured that's what they called grimm. Helped me save my village so I'm not complaining."

Ozpin stilled, "genma you say… It can't be."

"Headmaster?"

"I'm sorry Mr. Arc, you just gave me much to think about. Did the Huntsman that gave you your recommendation, Ekei, tell you anything in regards to this?"

Jaune crossed his arms with a growl. "That perverted drunk? No, he was too busy drinking all the village's alcohol and hitting on my older sisters. All he did was give me my recommendation letter before he left."

"Hmmm, well I believe I kept you for long enough. You may leave now." The headmaster got out of his chair and faced the window behind him as Jaune started walking to the elevator. "Oh and Mr. Arc?"

Jaune stopped and turned back to the headmaster. "I am aware that you informed Ms. Rose most of this, but do be careful. There are those that would covet the power that gauntlet gives." The elevator closed before Jaune could respond.

The talking stopped when Jaune entered the dorm. Before he could take much in Ruby was in his space, practically vibrating. "What did the headmaster want to talk to you for! You're not in trouble are you…"

"I doubt it, Rubes, who gets in trouble before the first day?" Ruby's sister, Yang he believed she had said, walked over to them. She looked him up and down. "Though I gotta admit I'm curious too. What'd the big guy want with you huh?"

The warning the headmaster gave before Jaune had left stuck in his head, but he shook it off. He had already decided he would trust his team. "He wanted to know about my gauntlet. Said he had an interest in old stuff."

Yang looked down at the gauntlet in question, and he swore he saw Blake's bow twitch as she read a book on what he assumed was her bed. "Huh, I mean it looks kinda freaky, sure. It kinda looks like it's IN your arm."

"That's cause it is." Okay, now Blake had stopped reading and joined everyone else in staring at him. He started rubbing the back of his neck. "It doesn't hurt or anything."

Yang grabbed his arm and started looking over the gauntlet. She turned and yanked his arm around like he was a rag doll.

"Hey! Ow… what are you doing!" Jaune tried to pull his arm out from her grip, but wasn't able to free himself. A jolt of pain shot through him as she tugged on the gauntlet. "Ah! I said that doesn't come off!"

Yang let go and Jaune stepped back, moving his arm around. Blake had gotten up and joined them during this. Her eyes glued to the gauntlet. "You're not concerned that it's dug into your arm like that?"

Jaune paused. "Nah, the guys that gave me the gauntlet were pretty straight forward with what it is. Apparently it's supposed to be a tool to fight something called genma. They gave me this gauntlet's power to save my village if I avenged them and destroyed these genma things."

"You mentioned those things earlier, what are genma?" Ruby asked.

"Not really sure," Jaune responded with a sigh, "but I figure the gauntlet will let me know when I come across some. It pulses like it might be alive or something."

"I'm sorry WHAT!" Yang interrupts. "This sounds insane. You have a gauntlet attached to your arm you THINK is alive. You're supposed to hunt things you never he-" A bright light shines and Tentsubasa is in Jaune's hand, the chitin-like hilt with what looks like muscle holding the metal of the blade and the hilt together. "ard… What is that!"

Ruby hopped up and down, shedding rose petals as she did. "That's Tentsubasa! It's this really cool sword Jaune can summon like pshah! And it can use light and stuff!"

Jaune chuckled, "Thank you Ruby, like she said Tentsubasa uses light in a burst to attack. It and the gauntlet are what allowed me to even be here, I wasn't that great without it…"

"As interesting as this is, why are you telling us?" Blake asked.

"Well," Jaune rubbed the back of his neck. "I already gave Ruby my word I would, and an Arc never goes back on their word. Plus, y'know, we are going to be a team for the next four years and need to trust in each other to have our backs. I'm just doing so now instead of later."

Blake paused and was silent, then with a nod she went back to her bed and started reading again. Ruby practically blinded him with her smile and while Yang still seemed wary about it she didn't push any further. Jaune unpacked his belongings, it looked like the girls had already done so and claimed their beds. Jaune took the unoccupied bed on the right side of the room, the same side that Blake's was on. He pulled out his bunny onesie and was walking to the bathroom when it was grabbed out of his hands. He turned to see Yang looking at the blue cloth in her hands with a grimace.

"Seriously, you're going to wear this thing again?"

"Yeah, it's soft and comfortable."

"Ugh, it's also super lame!"

Jaune raised an eyebrow. "And a gift from my sisters."

Yang snorted. "Really? Well they have interesting taste then." She handed the onesie back and leaned into his space. "And no funny business, got it?"

"Wouldn't dream of it." Jaune said with his hands up before going into the bathroom to change. He sighed as the door closed and looked down at the gauntlet fused with his arm. Was he worthy of it? That thought had stuck with him since the Oni granted him their power. He clenched his fist and started changing, thankfully his mother modified most of his clothes to accommodate the armor on his arm. Mostly adding a zipper to his longer sleeved clothing to give room for him to get them off. He would simply have to earn the trust the Oni gave him.

When he went to bed that night he swore someone was staring at him.

Morning came and went, thankfully they had taken the time to unpack last night or they might have been late for their first class. Though his teammates likely disagreed seeing as they started tuning the professor out shortly into the class. He could understand, Professor Port apparently liked to hide his lesson in vainglorious stories that dragged on. If Jaune wasn't so focused on proving he belonged here he might have missed it and joined Yang in slumber. The fact that ursa were vulnerable after committing to a swing. That beowolves would often have a member hiding to ambush hunters while the rest of the pack distracted them. Jaune wondered if part of the lesson was the need of focus, the only others that seemed to be doing so were most of team PRSN. The only one not doing so was the shorter-haired ginger girl.

"A true huntsman must be honorable, dependable, strategic, well-educated, and wise. Now normally I ask if anyone believes themselves to be an embodiment of these traits. Instead I'll be choosing one of you to come down and show your peers your mettle… Mr. Arc, if you would please get your gear and make your way down here." Professor Port declared. Jaune nodded and stepped out of the classroom as his teammates wished him luck.

After returning in his combat gear with Tentsubasa already summoned, Jaune made his way to the center of class, where there was now a metal cage sitting off to one side. His teammates cheered him on as he prepared for whatever test the professor had set up. Professor Port walked over to the cage with his weapon in hand.

Alright! Let the match…" He breaks the lock off the cage. "BEGIN!"

Jaune tumbles to the left, barely missed by whatever shot out of the cage, it spun past before stopping to reveal a boar like grimm. It spun once more, rocketing toward Jaune who barely got his sword up in time to block and deflect the attack. Gathering himself Jaune got into a ready stance, holding Tentsubasa with two hands as he slowly stepped to the side. From what Professor Port mentioned the grimm had to be a boarbatusk, which meant it was weak-

"Go for it's belly Jaune! There's no armor underneath!" Ruby shouts from the front row.

Jaune smiles, before nodding to her, and refocusing on the grimm that was staring him down. He could just use Tentsubasa's magic burst, but even he knew that would draw too much attention. Then he needed to figure out how to flip the thing over. If only he had taken Crocea Mors, he could have used the shield to make it launch itself into the wall. Unfortunately he had left it at home, he already had Tentsubasa so he had thought at the time he wouldn't need another weapon. Well there was one option and he hoped the gauntlet served as proper armor as well as a powersource, or this would hurt more then he planned.

The boarbatusk finally grew impatient and decided to ram at its prey again and spun toward him. His team shouted when instead of dodging he used his armored arm to deflect the boar grimm into the wall behind him, stunning it. Shaking off the pain he quickly dashed to it before sinking his blade deep into its gut till it finally stilled and started to dissipate. The class cheered and the professor congratulated him on his planning as the bell rang. He hadn't gotten even a step in before he was set upon by Ruby.

"That was amazing, you were like whoosh and it was all 'grrr imma get you' then you went wham before taking it out!." She then gasped, "But what about your arm! Is it okay?"

Jaune held his arm up as the other two members of their team caught up. "All in one piece, turns out the gauntlet's pretty sturdy!"

Before Ruby could say anything Yang smacked Jaune on the shoulder hard. "Pretty ballsy VB, glad it worked out!"

As Jaune talked with his team he felt someone staring at him and his gauntlet began to pulse. He glanced around at the leaving student before catching the boy member of team PRSN boring a hole into him before leaving the class.

"Something wrong Jaune?" Blake asked, looking back at him from where the boy was. "Do you know him?"

"No…" He looked down at his gauntlet. "But I think I might need to…"

"Jaune?"

"Later, let's head to our next class."

By the end of the day Jaune had confirmed that the gauntlet was definitely reacting to the male member of team PRSN, Lie Ren. Apparently his team just called him Ren, a mistralian custom according to Blake. Jaune had to find out why the gauntlet was reacting to Ren, and why he had been staring at Jaune when he had the chance. It made Jaune nervous, was Ren one of these genma? His team convened in their room that night.

"So what, you think this Ren guy's a genma or whatever?" Yang asked while leaning against a wall, her arms crossed under her breasts.

"I'm not sure," Jaune starts rubbing the back of his neck, "all I know is that the gauntlet reacts to him."

"And that he's been eyeing you all day." Blake adds, "We might as well figure out just to be safe. It's not likely, but if he is he might try to attack you during a moment of vulnerability."

She was right, Jaune knew that. But to consider a fellow student an enemy? He was glad the gauntlet hadn't reacted to any of his team. The concept of one of them secretly being his enemy scared him and he didn't want to consider it. Though another thought came to him.

"What if he is related to the Oni somehow?" He suggested.

Yang scoffed. "Aren't these Oni people supposed to have died off or something? How would he be related?"

"A clan that worshiped or served them is likely." Blake added. "Or perhaps some of them escaped whatever happened in the first place. We won't know till we confront him."

Just then a knock came from the door. Everyone looked at each other before Jaune walked over to it. The sounds of weapons activating sounded behind him as he opened the door to reveal Lie Ren and his ginger partner Nora Valkyrie.

"Jaune, correct? We have much to speak on" Ren said before walking forward. "Especially on why you possess an artifact of the Oni clan."

AN:

I realized I didn't really give Tentsubasa's description. Most of the Oni weapons in the first three Onimusha games had very supernatural, kinda alive, looks to them. Chitinous looking bits with what looked like muscle holding them together. The first level it's barely noticeable but becomes more exaggerated with each upgrade. I plan on adhering to this partially to be accurate to the source material, partially cause it's cool.

Oh and Tentsubasa means "Heaven Wing" and the Kanji would read "Heaven Wing Sword" for those curious. While two of the four weapon sets starts with lightning I decided to follow Demon Siege's footsteps and make Jaune's first weapon light based. Though it's no longer focused on speed and the magic attack is more a focused light blast instead of a barrage of light-speed attacks.

Responses:

LaughingMack - Yeah I ran the teams through a randomizer to figure out who would be on what team. Then I had to figure out what the team names would be. Ended up using a generator.

Renashi-RE012 - It was the crossover eating at my brain the most. I can't wait to see what you do for your story. We need more of the obscure cross overs. Like RWBY with ARK: Survival or the Overlord games.
