Everyone had settled, though Jaune noted no one had put their weapons away just yet. He could feel the tension in the air and looked back to their guests. Ren had taken a spot near the door, leaning against the wall, while Nora was looking all around the room as if everyone else being armed and focused on them didn't faze her at all.

"You know about the Oni gauntlet?" Jaune inquired.

"I do, how did you acquire it?"

"It was given to me, how do you know about it?"

"That doesn't matter." Ren stepped toward the door. "I will be watching. Misuse the Oni's gift and I will personally take that gauntlet."

Yang sprang forward. "The hell gives you the right to decide that huh!"

Ren just walked through the door, Nora following close behind waving as she went. "It was nice to meet you guys! Let's eat together sometime!"

Everyone was silent as the door shut behind them, Yang was still standing, and Jaune swore he saw her hair start to give off heat. "Who the hell does that jerk think he is!"

Blake got up and started gathering her nightclothes. "It seems likely he is related to the Oni like we thought. I doubt someone against them would care about their power being used right."

"That would mean he's on our side right? Why did he act like a big jerk?" Ruby asked.

"Doesn't matter," Jaune clenched his fist. "I don't plan on misusing this gift. So he won't try to take anything."

"Yeah! Besides, he couldn't take it since it's attached to your arm."

Jaune rubbed the back of his neck. "Ruby… I don't think that would stop him."

"The only way would be to…" Ruby shot to her feet. "I won't let him! He'll have to get through me first!"

Jaune smiled. "Thanks Ruby, let's make sure it doesn't come to that though."

"Right!"

Jaune wasn't sure what to make of Ren, it had been a few weeks since they had talked and he hadn't said a word to him. Nora was friendly enough and would wave when they saw each other but Jaune wasn't sure if it was an act or not. Another concern was the history professor, Dr. Oobleck, who had asked if he could talk to Jaune at some point. Jaune hadn't given a response yet and was quite frankly tired of the attention. He rubbed the back of his neck as he leaned back on the bench he sat on. Then his vision went black as someone out their hands over his eyes. "Guess who~."

"Yang."

"Aw, how'd ya know?" She moved her hands and Jaune stood and turned to her. She was wearing a yellow sports bra and black shorts. Her face was also a little flush.

"Ruby and Blake aren't really the types to do that, did you just finish running?"

"I was just finishing when I saw you all mopey over here, what's stewing in that mop of yours?" She poked Jaune's forehead.

"Just stuff, sorry if I was bothering you."

Yang huffed and started pulling Jaune toward the school. Ignoring his yelps as he dragged behind her. Eventually they reached the training rooms. Jaune massaged his arm once she released it. "Yang, what are we doing here?"

"You obviously got something bugging you," She deployed Ember Celica and walked to the other end of the room. "Figured I'd distract ya for a bit."

"By beating me up?"

"Just think of it as training." The aura meters activated and Yang dashed at Jaune. He barely ducked the first blow and just managed to summon Tentsubasa to block the second before sprinting to the side. Jaune felt instinct take over as he deflected another strike. Blow after blow just dodged or deflected until Yang managed a body shot with her left and sent him flying with a right hook. "C'mon Jaune that all you got!"

Jaune grit his teeth and rushed her, calling on the info the gauntlet gave him he slashed and swung as Yang ducked and weaved out of his attacks. He ate a left hook and then another body blow to his right side, then as Yang was rearing back for another blow he smashed Tentsubasa into the ground with a bright flash of light. He steadied himself as Yang flew back and rushed her again before she could steady herself. He swung and was blocked before Yang headbutted him and sent him flying in a burst of flame. She blasted him with Ember Celica, juggling him in the air for a few moments.

Everything hurt when Jaune landed. He risked a glance at the aura meters to see Him at 32% and Yang at 60%. He looked back just in time for Yang's fist to meet his face and the bell to ring. As Jaune gathered himself a hand appeared in his vision. He took it as Yang pulled him up with a cheeky smirk. "Got a lot to learn there vomit boy, but it wasn't horrible. That blast with the light, that was the power you talked about right?"

"Yea," Jaune wheezed, "Not that it helped…"

Yang frowned. "You're kidding right? That thing practically floored me, If it wasn't for my semblance you might have gotten another of and it would have been my loss."

"Yang… That was the only hit I landed, I couldn't touch you otherwise. " Jaune scratched the back of his neck. "You practically used me as a punching bag."

Yang puffed her chest out. "That's just cause I'm awesome! I bet if you went against someone else in our class you would have won."

"Maybe…"

Yang grabbed Jaune's shoulder and turned him back to her. "Okay what's going on. You took on a bunch of beowolves with Rubes doing initiation, where is this coming from?"

Jaune sighed and was about to turn and walk away before Yang's grip tightened. "Sure it hasn't been long, but you seem like an okay guy Jaune, and Ruby believes in you. So why are you so down on yourself?"

"It's cause it isn't me."

Yang's grip loosened and she walked in front of him. "What are you talking about? What isn't you?"

"The fighting," Jaune sighed and looked away. "I barely lifted a sword before having the gauntlet. Sure I wanted to be a huntsman, but I was never strong enough."

"Jaune, someone not strong enough wouldn't be able to take the beating I just gave."

Jaune scratched more at his neck until Yang grabbed his arm and turned him to her. "Jaune, whatever is going on you got your team to help you. You trusted us with knowing about the gauntlet right? You can trust me with this."

"That's exactly it Yang," Jaune pulled out of her grip and sat on a nearby bench, "I was always sick growing up. Even as much as a few months ago I'd be bedridden for one reason or another…"

Yang sat next to him as he continued. "When the village attacked was thankfully one of my better periods, else I might not have been able to leave my home. Everyone fled to the shrine, it had one entrance and was large enough for the village. My father and Ekei were able to hold, but the numbers were too much and they were starting to tire. I prayed for some way to save my family…"

"Suddenly a voice spoke to me." Jaune turned to Yang. "They offered the power to protect those I love, if I swore to take vengeance on the demons that killed them. I said yes, what else could I do. Next thing I knew this gauntlet was a part of my arm and Tentsubasa at my side. I had never really lifted a sword yet I suddenly knew how to use one. I was never strong enough to do much of anything outside of simple housework, yet I was suddenly strong enough to fight. Tentsubasa allowed me to turn the tide and help my father and Ekei push them back. But it's not my strength or knowledge. I didn't earn my way here, this gauntlet simply is strong enough that I could come here."

"That's stupid." Yang stood and walked in front of Jaune. "Sure that gauntlet made it so you could fight. But you're the one who fought. Besides, that thing must not be giving you too much knowledge with how you just fought. Do you know what that means Jaune?"

"Yang. I appreciate it-"

Yang shoved her finger into Jaune's chest. "It means you can learn to fight better. Something that would be all you, not that thing attached to your arm."

Jaune sat in thought before nodding and standing up. "You're right, thanks Yang!"

"Course I am! That's why for now on I'll be helping you get better."

"What? Yang, I appreciate it, but I need to do this myself. I need to be able to say this strength is my own."

"Yea, no." Yang flicked Jaune's forehead. "No one learns on their own. The only reason Rubes and I are as strong as we are is because we were taught. Our uncle showed Ruby everything she knows, and I have our old man to thank for my sweet moves."

"Yang-"

"No Jaune, you really think that you can learn years of fighting on your own? Trust me, even if I don't really know how to use a sword I'll at least give you someone to push you when you need it." Yang walked to the door. "Show up here tomorrow, or I'll drag you here myself."

Jaune looked at Tentsubasa before dismissing it. He left the training room and walked into Ren. "She's right. You need to get stronger and others will speed that up."

"How long were you listening?" Jaune huffed. "Why do you care anyway? You threatened me and haven't said a word since."

"I apologize, I was unsure of you and wary."

Jaune crossed his arms. "Like I said, you threatened me. Why should I listen to anything you have to say?"

"Because it concerns you and I both. I will speak with you at a later date, but eventually you must know the full truth of the gauntlet and the genma. Till then get stronger, you will need to be." Ren walked off and left Jaune standing there. What he said bothered Jaune, and if Ren wouldn't say anything, then Jaune would find his own answers.

—-

Jaune had spent the last few hours scouring every history and mythology book he could find. His eyes were starting to blur and he had developed a headache around half an hour ago. The most he could find was mention of an ancient people with powers that had died out. It didn't even say they were Oni, it just mentioned they had incredible power and worshiped dragons. Another myth told of elemental orbs called Dragon Orbs that could only be used by certain warriors that brought forth fierce weapons. Jaune glanced at the orb set into his gauntlet as if it was an eye. Its white surface revealed nothing to him and he sighed.

"So this is where you've been." Jaune's heart stopped and he turned to the voice, revealed to be Blake, with a book in her hand. "Ruby got worried when you didn't show up back at the room. So why are you reading about… Ancient myths and legends of Remnant?"

"Ren talked to me earlier today. He was pretty tight-lipped but mentioned some things that caught my interest." Jaune handed a book to Blake when she sat down next to him.

"Dragon Orbs? Do you think your gauntlet has one? Light is considered an element to some."

Jaune scratched the back of his head. "Possibly. It wasn't what I was looking for but it did stick out to me."

"Then what are you looking for? Maybe I can help."

"Ren mentioned genma and how I needed to be stronger. I was hoping to find something on the Oni or genma, but all I could find was mentions of some ancient clan and that text on the orbs."

Blake handed the book she had arrived with to Jaune. "Try this, I've been looking for myself since you first told us."

The book was on ancient mistrali legends and one of the chapters was bookmarked. It was about a prestigious clan that once protected the people of Remnant from demons called genma. It went on about how the genma would seek to consume human and faunus alike and how the Oni fought back against them. The Oni clan was apparently hunted down and massacred by the genma, but the author wondered why the genma also disappeared when the Oni did. It continued on how sometimes folktales of creatures that preyed on the people that wandered too far from civilization and how they lived in the deep and dark places of Remnant. They talked of how many thought it was simply grimm, but that grimm simply killed and didn't actually consume. How occasionally macabre art and structures could be found made of the remains of the lost.

"This is…" Jaune didn't have words. Was this what he was looking for? What he would have to face… Then it came to him. "The cave…"

Blake's bow twitched again. "What cave?"

"During initiation, Ruby and I came across a cave that seemed to warn of something. It didn't look like grimm and we figured it wasn't where the relic was so we kept going…"

"Do you think we might find something there? I mean Emerald Forest is pretty close to the school, even if something was once there would the teachers just leave it?"

Jaune stood and sprinted out of the library, Blake was right behind him. "Jaune! Where are you going?"

"I have to know!"

"Jaune it's almost nine at night! We should get some sleep first."

Jaune burst out of the school and shot toward the cliffs. Energy pulsed in his veins and the gauntlet seemed to pulse in response. By the time he reached the Emerald Forest Blake had barely kept up. "How are you this fast! Wait Jaune, let me get a weapon first."

"Head back Blake, I'll be fine." Jaune was about to leap off the cliff when Blake grabbed him.

"We're a team, Jaune. I already messaged Ruby and Yang, they're heading this way now. My locker should be here soon as well. Please just wait so we can go with!"

Jaune grit his teeth and turned away. "Fine. They better get here soon."

Yang and Ruby arrived shortly after Blake's locker. All four of them stared down into the forest below.

"Are you sure we can't wait till tomorrow Jaune, when it's light out?" Yang asked.

"No, if I'm right then the sooner we explore that cave the better."

Ruby stepped forward. "Well, we're with you Jaune, team JRBL is ready!"

"Alright… Let's go." Jaune then leapt off the cliff and landed with a burst of Tentsubasa. His team landed shortly after and Blake stepped forward. "That might have gotten some attention."

"Then we should be prepared." Jaune then made Tentsubasa glow so they could see. They moved toward where Jaune remembered the cave to be. The gauntlet pulsed more the closer they got, almost as if it was anticipating what they would find. They didn't come across any grimm during their trek, but figured that their numbers were still low from initiation. Finally they reached the cave with it's gruesome mural, the meaning of such now caused a hole to form in Jaune's gut.

"Yikes, that doesn't really look good." Yang said after getting a good look at the sketch on the stone.

"Be on your guard everyone, who knows what we will find in there." Jaune tensed before stepping into the abyss. Jaune could hear his team's footsteps echo behind him as they breached into the darkness. Tentsubasa light the stone around them as it seemed to continue down.

"Not a lot of space here, Jaune, we won't be able to fight properly if something attacks us." Ruby pointed out.

"Right, Yang take the back, You'll be better able to take anything that comes from behind, Blake you next to help her, Ruby stay behind me while I take the front. You can shoot anything that comes at me and I'll be able to better fight it." Jaune stopped as the team rearranged themselves. After everyone was in their place they continued on. The tunnel seemed to stretch on forever, though Jaune guessed it might have only been a half hour or so.

"This place just seems to keep going huh? We sure anything is even here?" Yang asked while watching behind them.

"That's honestly what we should hope for, when we get back we'll show you the book Blake found. You'll understand my rush then." Jaune continued forward, soon the path opened up into a shrine similar to the one that sat near his home. It looked far more worn down however, and the hair on the back of his neck was raised the second he stepped into the chamber. The torches were lit.

"Wow, This place is huge!" Ruby walked forward and looked around. "I can't believe something like this was so close to the school."

Jaune rushed in front of Ruby with his head on a swivel, every dark corner was suspect, and he felt knowledge of how dangerous the things that could hide there creep into his mind. "Be on guard Ruby, something is definitely here…"

"This is pretty creepy Jaune, I really hope you're wrong." Yang shivered and rubbed her arms. They made their way to the shrine upon which sat a small pedestal with dragons inscribed upon it. Sat atop it on an old, yet preserved pillow was a blue orb. Just as Jaune reached out to it Ruby screamed. Jaune spun around to see what looked like walking corpse dressed in old clothes that had all but rotted away. They were armed with simple swords and spears and there were around ten.

"ZOMBIES!" Ruby screamed once again before unfurling Crescent Rose and unleashing a barrage of bullets on them. Jaune could tell the shots did damage, but it was as if the shambling bodies barely felt them. Several of the sword wielding ones rushed the stairs and Jaune shot past his team in response. When Tentsubasa cut through the first it visibly staggered and Jaune deflected the second's blade while Yang knocked back the third as it tried to stab his back. One of the spear wielders finally fell after Ruby and Blake both unloaded on it from the top of the stairs. Just as it fell Jaune stabbed down on the one he originally slashed, causing it to fall apart and disintegrate into blood and viscera. From both fallen orbs of light came forth and on instinct Jaune held forward the gauntlet, which drew the lights into it. Jaune felt power as he absorbed whatever the lights were, and Blake stopped the second corpse from striking him while he was distracted.

"Pay attention Jaune!." She then slashed into it several times before it finally collapsed.

"Right, sorry!" Jaune pushed into the fray, cutting into another spear wielder as Yang took out her opponent. Ruby sniped another corpse into stillness. Jaune released Tentsubasa's magic burst into a group of three that had tried to gang up on him, and they instantly disintegrated. Blake and Ruby wore the last spear user into death and Yang beat the last corpse until it finally expired. Jaune took a moment to absorb the orbs of light surrounding them all, and once he finished he swore the gauntlet felt satisfied, at least for the moment. The silence drew on for a moment."

"What the hell was that!" Yang shouted. "Those were corpses, Walking corpses!"

"I think… I think those were genma." Jaune said as he walked back up the shrine's stairs, stopping in front of the orb. "And I think they were trying to stop me from getting this."

"What makes you say that?" Blake asked as she walked up and got a better look at the orb.

"They didn't show up until I got close to it. If they meant to attack us from the start when we first entered and were hindered by the tunnel would have been best." Jaune picked up the orb and felt electricity shoot through his body before the orb disappeared and a rapier was in his hand, it was a deep blue and its basket hilt seemed to be chitinous like Tentsubasa's with small gaps that showed what looked like muscle fiber. He felt its name surface in his mind. "Raihari."

"That's cool and all but what were those lights that came out of them when they disappeared, and why did your gauntlet absorb them?" Yang walked up to them with Ruby behind her.

Jaune looked past the pedestal to see what looked like a door that led further into the cavern. He shook his head and turned to his team. "This is starting to look like more than we are prepared for. We should turn back, I'll ask Ren about what we found here and we can explore the rest when we are better prepared."

"That sounds like a plan! We definitely need to make sure this place is cleared out sooner than later though." Yang stated.

"Yea, let's get some sleep first though." Blake added.

AN:

Raihari means "thunder needle" and it's kanji would be "thunder needle blade" . It was selected at random for this orb, which is funny cause I was thinking about using this orb first anyway. Well I am hopefully nearly done with the big chunks of lore and such, but maybe not. As always I need to sleep cause the only time I seem to be able to right is when I should be sleeping.

Responses:

IrishKatana - I think this chapter will speak for itself, and I can officially say all of Jaune's weapons will be original to him.

1v2 - Yea, I'm working on writing bigger chapters, hopefully it becomes a habit. There will be characters from Onimusha, like Ekei. Though I haven't decided who just yet. I might do some crazy pairings, haven't fully decided who will be with who just yet. Seeing as the oni enemies are more demon-like and such I might repurpose a few, lemme troll the wiki and make a decision on that. And last but not least I would like to write an ark x rwby crossover as well as a minecraft/terraria x rwby crossover. When I'm more awake I'll make a list on my profile.

LushiKatomikyarimimo - The first three are in english now, I think there might even be a remaster floating around.

Wolfx88 - Thanks mate, yea I agree I went through the first chapters kinda fast, part of that was a desire to get to the meat of the story, I will likely rewrite some time later once this is finished.

If someone want's to make a cover for the story I'll likely put it up and credit you. If I like it and feel it fits of course.
