Author's Note: This is a retelling of the Anime series/Novels by Yoshiki Tanaka (The Legend of the Galactic Heroes) This story is a what could have happened if the Earth recovered from the bombardment from the Black Fleet in the Earth-Sirius War in 2704 AD. Also, what the main story would look like if other factions besides The Free Planets Alliance and the Galactic Empire (Goldenbaum Dynasty) were in the story as well. There are many OCs that play important roles in the narrative, as well as different outcomes to canon characters of LOTGH as well. The story is also inspired by other fandom writers for LOTGH including, (An Ideal to Fight For: LOGH Fanfiction story by Jeremy, and Cataquack Warri's LOGH RPG), so you may see scenes or OCs from their works in my story as well. Last, I have also characters from other anime in this galaxy as well, so you may see characters from Sailor Moon, Ranma ½, or Spy x Family, and more in this story as well.
This prologue has been edited.
Legend of the Galactic Heroes belongs to Yoshiki Tanaka, and this story is for purely entertainment purposes only.
Legend of the Galactic Heroes: The End of the 36th century
Prologue:
"Even now, War persists. It has been said that the history of man is the history of war, and few would dispute this. Were one to describe human progress, you could say that it is born from the womb called war, though no one today would ever dare put it so bluntly. Perhaps mankind is a life form that will continue to wage war until the very last particle of that seed is extinct. A tremendous amount of blood, tears, and wisdom are expended in war. And amidst it, the hopes and dreams of many people are burnt to ashes. But also, amidst it, in every age, are people with the ambition to change the world, for better or for worse. Evaluating how those ambitions change the world can perhaps only be left to the people of that age. That is because the values of the historians of this age are shaped by the age in which they themselves live. However, there have been those who have left behind names now considered historic, who burned with ambition to change the world, and who were crushed beneath the weight of human history."
"They are the ones whom people call heroes." A young man reads aloud. The young man is a 22-year-old man with brown hair and grey eyes. He is reading the preface of The History of the Stars, by Reinhard von Tanaka, an imperial historian with Asian ancestry. The young man is currently reading The History of the Stars, on an oval table in a conference room on board a silver starship that looks like pyramid connected to a cylinder. The young man turns his head to the left, looking at a man with green skin and dark blue eyes (not the iris but the sclera). They are both wearing light brown uniforms with a silver insignia of a winged lion carrying the planet Earth on its back. "What do you think of Tanaka, Kern?" The young man says.
The green skinned man, known as Kern replies. "The man is a product of this age, but at least he recognizes it.' 'Do you plan on reading this book till we reach Heinessen, Daniel?"
Daniel nods. "It be good to have an understanding of the mindset of the Galactic Empire, as well as the Alliance in all this considered, given the circumstances." Daniel looks at his watch. "Plus, there is still sixty-two hours till we reach the Socrates Starzone by hyperspace, need to do something besides looking over the royal documents for continual friendship and cooperation between the United Realms of Earth and the Free Planets Alliance, or our Military Advisors papers."
Kern. "As you wish Prince Candidum."
It had been almost three years since Prince Daniel and Kern had join the URE's Advisor program that sends officers to URE's allied governments, especially the Alliance. Also, given that Prince Daniel was a member of the High Royal Family of Earth, state visits and aid trips had been a constant long before both joined the URE Star Armada.
Daniel, "…You know, its not going to be the same with you not being at my side Kern, but at least the fleet you are assigned to has competent officers."
Kern raises an eyebrow. "While Vice Admiral Paeta seems capable, according to the records, he did not look like one I would think you would praise?"
Prince Daniel Candidum shakes his head. "I was not talking about him; you remember the Battle of Van-Fleet? After we evacuated Van-Fleet 4-2, there was a captain with Admiral Lobos's staff who gave advise that helped keep the Alliance from losing to the Empire in the space battle."
Kern nods, recognizing who Daniel was talking about, "The Hero of El Facil himself, hopefully the commanders will listen to him better than they have done with us."
Daniel Candidum, "For the crew and the soldiers' sake I hope so, hopefully Admiral Moore is more open to advice as well."
Kern, "That seems…improbable at best."
Daniel sighs, "Then we pray for a miracle, or hope that the Iserlohn Corridor is quiet next year."
Kern, "I hope so two my Liege." While Kern Van De Kris was no pacifist nor was his Liege, the Alliance-Imperial War had been inconclusive for so long, even after the First Galactic War, that Kern was sure the only reason why the Alliance was still throwing wave after waves of ships against the Empire was due to financial aid by the Dominion of Fezzan and The United Realms of Earth's government.
Daniel returns to his book, "Well, better continue reading.' 'I hope our welcome to Alliance territory will be a genuine welcome this time."
Kern looks at the calendar. The date reading November 5, 3595 AD.
"You should also send a Hyperlink recording to Princess Clare when we reach Socrates. Her birthday is in a week."
Interstellar communication had come along ways since the days of the United Earth Government. However, there were still huge limits to communications in terms of costs, distance, and the Empire. An interstellar video communication, even by hyperlink would take a week to reach Earth from Heinessen. This was due to the Goldenbaum Dynasty being a constant enemy to the United Realms of Earth. Even in these days of Armistice between the Empire and the URE, since the Galactic War twenty-three years ago, communications through Imperial territory were still too risky. So, the best available was to send a recorded message by hyperlink around Imperial territories through either the Grandee or Plato Hyper trans-ways.
"Thanks for reminding me Kern, also we should record messages or see if we can connect an audio connection to Ravenna for Thanksgiving" states Daniel. "We don't know when we'll be called up with our fleets to go to the frontline at the Iserlohn Corridor."
"I'll inform Chief Engineer Tacitus and Captain Enoch of your plans" starts Kern.
"You know Kern, if you want to send any messages to your family, you're more than able to…" states Daniel, with a hit of concern.
"I appreciate the concern Commodore Daniel, but there is nothing to be discuss or inform my father about till our next battle." Using Daniel's rank to emphasize that there is no changing of Kern's position on the subject.
Daniel sighs, "very well".
Kern walks out of the room and Daniel continues reading.
