A screech cut into the night. In a shaded clearing, two cats were fighting. Dark shadows were watching the tussle from the trees. The two toms finally broke apart. Both had wounds, but they healed just as soon as they appeared.
"Redstar!" one of the shadows yowled. "Stop this madness. We can solve this problem without fighting." The one speaking stepped forward into the clear. She was pure white and had stars sparkling in her fur. She turned and faced the rest of the cats. "StarClan, we are better than this, are we not?" she questioned. Several mews agreed with her.
"Snowfall," Redstar growled, "don't get in the way of this. You were a medicine cat when you were alive; there is no way you could understand the purpose of fighting." The russet tabby tom circled his opponent.
The cat Redstar was facing made no move to continue fighting. "Snowfall is right," he mewed. "We have no reason to fight. We should talk this out, leader to leader. We need to save our clans from the coming war."
Redstar hissed. "Silence, Oakstar. You don't know what you're talking about. You weren't a leader for long enough," he spat. "There is no way to stop this so-called war you speak of. CaveClan started this, and MoorClan will finish it. Those kits should never have been born."
Snowfall hissed quietly. "Shut up and listen to me, Redstar. We have all seen what will come of the clans if MoorClan and CaveClan battle," she meowed. "There is a better way to fix this."
Both Oakstar and Redstar were listening now. "What is your plan, Snowfall?" Oakstar asked. "Clearly MoorClan wants a fight, and CaveClan will stop at nothing to protect their clan." He glared at Redstar, and Redstar hissed back.
Snowfall sighed. "There doesn't have to be a war, Oakstar," she continued. "The kits that are going to cause this conflict are going to be the ones to stop it." Snowfall stepped forward until she was eye to eye with Redstar. "One of these kits will be born with the choice to save or destroy the clans, and we must make sure it chooses to save them."
"But Snowfall, if the clans learn of its heritage, there is no way the kit or its siblings will lead a good life. If what you say is true, this kit will destroy the clans," Oakstar meowed. " I don't understand what your plan is."
Another cat stepped forward from the ranks of StarClan. "Oakstar, you express solid concerns," she mewed, "but Snowfall hasn't explained everything yet. This kit will benefit both of your clans. It will make them stronger and more prepared for what is to come."
Redstar ducked his head. "I don't quite understand, Flameheart, but I will listen to you." He turned toward Oakstar. "I suppose you're expecting an apology, but you will not receive one until I know for sure that MoorClan will be fine."
Oakstar turned toward Flameheart. "Which kit will be born with this power?" he asked, "I would like to tell Ashtail so he and Ravenstar are prepared."
Flameheart shook her head. "I do not know, but we shall see in time. I would prefer that neither of you tell your clans by themselves. Snowfall and I will warn the medicine cats this coming halfmoon." Flameheart turned to look at the rest of the StarClan cats. "I hope that I made myself clear," she spoke loudly. "No cat is to warn their clan about the coming danger. They will discover it themselves, hopefully before much damage is done."
Redstar scoffed. "If we put our trust into this mysterious kit alone, I will struggle to find hope that the clans will be safe, and I refuse sit around and watch the destruction of the clan and the territory I love so much. Do what you want, Flameheart." He turned and stalked off, the other StarClan cats parting for him.
Oakstar turned and did the same. Snowfall and Flameheart shared a look, then the two she-cats left as well.
After the rest of StarClan left, only one cat remained. A cat that did not have stars in her fur. A cat that was not supposed to be there.
She let a mrrrrrow of laughter. "These dumbasses are going to get themselves killed," she hissed cruelly, "and I will enjoy every second of it. All I need to do is corrupt the mind of just one kit. Then the clans will fall."
Then she too stalked off, into a much darker afterlife where several cats yowled and rejoiced at her return.
She leapt onto a low-hanging branch and addressed the cats below her. "Cats of the Dark Forest, the time has come to send one of our own back into the clans." The cats below her perked their ears.
"I have spoken to many others and we have decided that the cat we will send to the world of the living is Darkfeather," the she-cat announced. Screeches of approval followed her words, and Darkfeather stepped forward.
"I am honored you have chosen me for this," she mewed. "I will not disappoint you Stoneclaw." Stoneclaw nodded at her words.
"Then go now, to the Dark Tree," Stoneclaw commanded, "and you will wake up as a part of ForestClan again." Darkfeather raced off, and when she made it to the Dark Tree she laid down and pressed her nose against the cursed rotting bark.
As sleep claimed her, she had only one thought:
I cannot wait to destroy these pathetic fucking clans.

When Redstar left the clearing, he went straight to the Moontree. Completely disregarding what Flameheart said, his plan was to talk with his old medicine cat, Riversight.
Riversight needs to know. I'll make sure he doesn't tell anyone, even Coldstar, but someone from MoorClan must know. Redstar curled up beside the trunk, and shut his eyes. When he opened them, he was back on his old land.
Riversight was facing away from him. "Riversight!" he meowed loudly, trying to get the tom's attention. Riversight whorled around on his paws and his mouth gaped when he saw Redstar.
"Redstar! I've been trying to speak with you for so long. StarClan hasn't been telling me anything," the black tom exclaimed.
Redstar purred in amusment. "I know. I'm sorry about that. We've been dealing with some things recently, which is actually what I wanted to talk about with you." Riversight sat down. He clearly understood this matter was serious.
"Four kits are going to be born within the next five days," Redstar began. "StarClan doesn't want me to tell you this, but one of them is going to play a huge role in the coming seasons. I wanted you to be prepared."
Riversight nodded thoughtfully. "I know who you're talking about. Blossomflame from CaveClan is about to have kits. I'll keep an eye on them. Come visit me more, okay?" Redstar nodded.
"One more thing," Redstar started, "you cannot tell anyone about this. Not even Coldstar, alright? I'm not supposed to be talking to you in the first place, and I'll be in trouble if anyone else hears about it." Riversight dipped his head in understanding.
"Thank you, Riversight."
