It hurt, dear god, did it hurt. All she could do was stay curled in a ball and sob. Irene had told her breakups were hard, that they made you sad and that you'll cry. She didn't say they make you feel like you're dying or that you want to die. She didn't say that your body will ache and not want to move. She most certainly didn't say anything about crying so hard you feel like you'll vomit. Maybe it wouldn't have been so bad if it was a fling or just a few months, but it wasn't. This was supposed to be "The One". The one Sarah married, the one she started her family with, the one who would be her one and only. Now he wasn't.
She just wanted the pain to stop. She didn't want to be a grown woman crying over a breakup in her childhood bedroom. She wanted things to make sense. She wished things weren't so hard. Wish. She wished. It had worked once before so why wouldn't it work again? Picking herself off the floor and sitting in front of her vanity mirror, she wiped the tears from her face and frowned at the redness around her eyes. Freezing for just a moment, she felt an odd sense of calm wash over her. This was what was supposed to be her next step. She took a breath and made her wish.
"I wish the Goblin King would come and take me away. Right now."
Crocorrison moved swiftly down the hall, his anxiety beginning to set in as he looked for the King. This was far beyond any of the kingdom's protocols. They handled children being wished away by negligent parents, not grown women wishing themselves away. He knew this would cause problems for everyone, but mostly for him. Working as the King's head advisor for the last 2,000 years had taught him just how unstable the King could be, especially for this specific woman. She had caused such turmoil 10 years ago, a mere blink of an eye to them but almost half of her lifetime. As he rounded a corner he nearly toppled a chambermaid. She spluttered an apology but Crocorrison could barely make a coherent word out.
"Out with it woman! What in the world are you going on about?" Crocorrison spoke sharply, he was in no mood to deal with any more panic.
"She's awake, sir. She's awake and His Majesty has ordered everyone out of her room but stays there himself." The maid seemed almost excited, she must be one of the new ones, clearly not understanding any of what was about to happen to them and the kingdom.
"Well shit," Crocorrison mumbled to himself, it seemed he may be returning to the sea sooner than he had planned to.
