Setting: Post-season 5; generally canon
Prompt: to impress her, he learns all of the words to her favorite Christmas carol. And he doesn't even like carols. Or Christmas. Or singing. *I took liberties.

Mike dragged his feet, literally, as he followed Maddie out of the civic center wearing a green sweater vest that made him look like something out of A Christmas Story, a folder of sheet music tucked under his arm. Frankly, the only good thing about being stuck caroling was the fact that it was Florida, and he didn't need a jacket. Although the vest was rather scratchy.
"Why did you sign up for this again?" He grumbled.
"Because the Sea Chanters needed more volunteers and Master Chief Jeter asked if we would attend," Maddie replied tartly, her exasperation apparent. "As a show of support, I believe. Really, Mike, what's so hard about singing Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer a few times?"
"Grandma got run over by a reindeer would be more accurate," Mike replied. "Have you heard some of those people sing?"
Maddie sighed. "Two hours, some mingling with hot chocolate..."
"There better be coffee," Mike interrupted.
"There will be coffee," Maddie replied, teeth clenched. As they approached the small group dressed in various shades of red and green, she shot him a warning look. "Now, be nice."
The conductor, who Mike recognized as the Eng from the Michener, nodded at Mike and Maddie. "I believe that we are all here, so if everyone will come together, we will begin with God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen."
At the first notes, Maddie's head swung around, her eyes pinned on Mike. He ignored her, continuing to sing. As the song finished and everyone shuffled their sheet music, Mike leaned forward. "Now what did I do to deserve that look? I'm behaving."
Maddie narrowed her eyes at him. "You, Michael Slattery, have been holding out on me. You didn't tell me that you could sing."
With Come, All Ye Faithful about to start, Mike had just enough time to whisper. "I learned just for you."
