"Nice hat, Green," Wolf said, entering the room in Command that Delta unofficially claimed as their private space, carrying two steaming cups of coffee.
"Shove off," Danny muttered, fighting the urge to get rid of the stupid top hat, as well as the rest of the caroling costume he was currently wearing, which was supposed to make him look like someone from nineteenth century England. Or, at least, that's what Russ said when he delivered said costume to Danny and Kara's house. Danny conceded that Kara's costume was possibly worse, with that weird scratchy stuff that went under the dress, so it stuck out. But while Kara was participating as part of her official duties, being one of the senior officers on base, Danny was technically a volunteer. Part of his new family-first agenda, an effort to show Kara that he was all-in. Danny eyed Wolf's leather jacket, beanie and gloves suspiciously. "Why are you here?"
Before Wolf could answer, Azima appeared then, taking one of the coffees from Wolf. "We could not miss your performance, Green. Miller and Courtney will be joining us as well."
"You look ... interesting in that outfit, Danny," Sasha added from the doorway. Like them, she was dressed in street clothes, apparently not feeling the need to make an ass of herself by joining the Admiral in a caroling costume.
Flipping them all the bird, Danny made his way down the hallway to Kara's office. She looked up, a smile softening her face when she saw him. Coming around her desk, she smoothed down the collar — or whatever the thing was called — of his shirt in an uncharacteristically personal demonstration. "I've never been very interested in history but you look rather dashing in that outfit, Mr. Green."
"Is that so, Commander?" Danny replied, he leaned forward, wiggling his eyebrows. "Because Frankie asked if these were our new dress uniforms."
Kara blinked, then she snorted, biting on her bottom lip in a failed effort to stop herself from bursting out laughing. Danny offered Kara his arm. "May I escort you to the front lawn, my dear?"
She gave a very awkward curtsey before looping her arm through his. "Why thank you, kind sir."
Grinning, spirits ten pounds lighter than he had ten minutes before, Danny led Kara towards the gathering of carolers. He might hate the costumes. He might hate the carols. He might hate the entire, ridiculous production.
But he would do it all again to have Kara by his side.
