Author's Note: Wow. This is a pretty fun story to write, and honestly, I've been getting a lot more help than I thought I would. Thank you all, especially to Awesome ax10 and joshuaswain33. I have my first storyline now because of you.
Now, before I begin, I need to clear some things up. First of all, I'm going to use a modern roster. Not too modern, but I will still have people like Roxanne Perez, Cora Jade, and Toxic Attraction to be here. Also, I'll be having Mandy Rose be the NXT Women's Champion while Gigi and Jacy are the Tag Team champions. I'm currently working on a list for other people to appear on the roster, but I'd like to know what you all think. Who would you like to have in this story's NXT roster and who wouldn't you want here? Also, if anyone has an idea for storylines for Carly X in the future, I'm all ears.
Well, that's it for now. Once I finalize the roster, I'll upload it in a future chapter. Good luck with the story. Any and all comments are welcome.
"This is it." I thought to myself as I peeked outside. "This is the beginning. Don't be nervous. Just do what feels natural."
Outside, I could see the NXT ring lit up with many colors and all the fans eagerly awaited for William Regal to speak. The general manager stood at the center of the ring with his microphone in within his hand. I took several deep breaths to prepare myself while Regal addressed the crowd. Right next to him was a table with a black folder resting on it.
"Ladies and gentlemen," Regal said, "I have an announcement to make. As you recall, we had just finished this year's Mae Young Classic. While Michelle McCool did win, another young lady caught my eye. This is a superstar who I see having a bright future here in WWE. Please, put your hands together for the Stylish Tiger… Carly X!"
The crowd cheered as my music played from the stage. I slapped both my cheeks at once before heading out to the ring. I wore my black T-shirt with the WWE logo on it, my blue jeans, and my black-and-white sneakers. I decided to wear this for my contract signing since I won't be competing just yet.
On the way to the ring, I waved to the crowd. I heard some of the people yell out "YOU DESERVE THIS! YOU DESERVE THIS!" and it made me proud to hear them say that. I was glad to know that there were other people who saw my loss as unjust.
When I entered the ring, William Regal shook my hand and gestured for me to stand on the other side of the table. He opened the black folder revealing a white sheet of paper with many small words on it. I recognized it as my contract.
"Carly, let me be the first to welcome you to WWE." Regal said. "Based on what I heard at the performance center, you have a lot of potential. And you truly showed it all at the Mae Young Classic making it to the finals. Just sign this contract, and you are free to compete here."
I got choked up. I've been waiting for this day for years, and now, it finally came. My career was just one signature away. I reached for the pen, but that's when the music played out and interrupted me. I stayed my hand and looked to the stage to see a woman dressed in all black walk on out. She wore a midriff-showing top, pants, shoes, and a backwards baseball cap over her black hair. She even carried a black baton over her shoulder.
There was no doubt about it. This was Cora Jade.
"Whoa, whoa, whoa, Regal." Cora said as she approached the ring. "Am I hearing this right? You're giving away a place at our roster to this… little girl? I mean, how old is she? 13? 12?"
I should have known she would say that to me. People have been making fun of my age for a while now, and so far, I was always able to shut most of them up. So yeah, I wasn't going to let her talk about me like that.
I grabbed I microphone and held it up to myself to make sure everyone heard. "Hey! I'm 18 years old! So technically, I have as much of a place here as you do!"
"18 years?" Cora asked followed by a mocking laugh. When she was done, she smiled back at me. "Listen to me, kid. This is no place for you. WWE doesn't have a junior league. Here, the adults put their bodies on the line. If you compete, you'll only cry all the way home when you get a boo-boo. My advice: leave now and come back later; maybe about 10 years. Sure, you can have your generation then, but for now, this is the Generation of Jade. And in my generation, there's no place for an upstart wannabe like you."
Cora really knew how to get under my skin, but I wasn't going to give her the satisfaction. Instead, I replied, "Upstart wannabe? No. I don't wanna be a superstar. I AM a superstar. I made my stride in the Mae Young Classic taking on legends such as Alicia Fox and Maddison Rayne. I was a finalist. That proves that I've got the strength and skill to be here, despite how young I am. And tonight, as soon as I sign this contract, I will start on my path to becoming the youngest champion in WWE."
Cora's smile faded and changed to a fatal glare at me. She climbed into the ring and confronted me from across the table. "Don't go around saying you're gonna be the champ. You're not cut out for it. So if you know what's good for you, you'll forget about that contract. Just leave this ring, leave WWE, and come back when you actually have a chance."
Cora's threat may have been chilling, especially with her killer look, but I wasn't one to back down. I returned her look for a stare down before I grabbed the pen. With a sure-enough head, I signed my name down on the contract before me. Now, it was Cora's move.
I saw the look in her eyes. She looked like she was ready to beat me down. Now that I was official, she had free reign to. Thankfully, William Regal reached his arm in front of her and guided her away from me.
"Cora, I understand your frustration. You don't think Carly deserves to be here. So I'll give you your chance to prove it. Next week, I'm putting you two in a match against each other. Fair?"
Cora's smile returned. She kept her eyes on me as she gave her answer. "Fine. Looks like I'll be the one to end your career before you even begin."
I smiled back at her with a smile of my own. "Good luck. I for one can't wait to shut you up." I dropped the microphone onto the table and exited the ring. I didn't take my eyes off of Cora until I was on the entrance ramp out of there.
As I left the ring area, I was invited for an interview with a backstage reporter. I was happy to lend my voice for the WWE Universe to hear.
"Ladies and gentlemen, I am here with NXT's newest superstar, Carly X. Now, Carly, I'm sure everyone wants to know what your thoughts are."
"About what exactly?" I asked.
"Well, you already have a match coming up next week, and it's against Cora Jade, who's saying that you're too young to belong here."
I answered back to the reporter, "Believe it or not, Cora's not the first person to say that to me. Ever since I signed up at the performance center, I've been surrounded by older trainees who all seemed to think that I didn't have a chance of surpassing them. Well, I showed them and I'm going to show Cora the same thing. Just you wait. I'll surpass her too."
After saying a peace, I left the interview area and returned to my locker room. Since I was already wearing normal clothes, I just grabbed my bag full of my ring gear and began to head out.
Just then, I heard a ringing sound. I recognized it as my phone that I had in my bag. And when I checked the Caller ID, I was delighted to see the word "Dad" displayed on it. I pressed the green button and answered.
"Hey, Dad."
"Hey, kiddo. Saw you on NXT. Way to stick to your guns."
"Thanks. Can you believe it? I'm finally a WWE superstar."
"Yeah. Congrats. Hope you train hard. That Cora Jade fights rough."
"You don't have to tell me. I thought for sure she was gonna swing her stick at me."
"Would you have caught it?"
"I would've seen it a mile away if she tried it. Anyway, talk to you later. I gotta drive."
"Okay. Take care, kiddo. Love you."
"Love you too."
I hung up the phone and proceeded to leave the arena. By then, my mind was focused on how I was going to face Cora Jade next week.
