Ray Diaz sat with his wife of three-days curled up next to him on the couch. Despite having fully agreed with Kat's suggestion that they forgo the New Year's Eve party that Azima and Wolf were throwing in favor of a quiet evening at home, Ray found himself feeling restless. He supposed that made sense after the chaos of the past week. First there was Christmas, done up in Tex's typical over-the-top style. Then Kara and Danny threw their now-traditional anniversary party. Only two days later was Kat and Ray's own wedding — an event that Ray couldn't imagine topping.

After a week of revelry, of course tonight would feel anticlimactic, even if it was the beginning of their first year being married. The clock chimed twenty-three hundred and, next to Ray, Kat stirred. "It's almost midnight. I suppose we should start getting ready."

A bit perplexed, Ray sat up straighter. "The champagne is in the freezer and I have glasses. We have plenty of time."

Pursing her lips, Kat shook her head at him teasingly. "There is no way that I can mop the house in five minutes. So, unless you want to mop, you better start counting out the grapes."

"Grapes?" Ray repeated dumbly.

Kat stood, walking into the kitchen to retrieve the mop and bucket and begin swiping the floor. "I couldn't get Sidra so we'll have to settle for washing our grapes down with champagne, but I already packed the suitcase and Dad helped me make the effigy." She paused, frowning. "It's not supposed to be a specific person, is it? Dad didn't think so but most of his information on Cuban holidays came from Gitmo so accuracy is far from assured."

Finally understanding, Ray stood, walking towards her. "The effigy isn't a specific person. It's symbolic. A way to get rid of all the bad luck from this year."

Kat frowned slightly. "I thought this year was pretty damn..."

Ray cut her off with a kiss, hand lifting to frame Kat's beautiful face. "This year has been amazing. But I have a feeling that the next one is going to be even better."
