Jodi Longmeyer's Complete 911 Call & Transcript
Daniel Maines is on the receiving end of Jodi's call, coming in.
"Yes, my name is Jodi. I'm with Von Maur..." Jodi said, stuttering and shaking in fear.
"...Yes?" Daniel replied.
"A-And I have people who are down and injured and have been shot." Jodi said, barely unable to contain her composure.
"Okay. Where are you at? What part of the store?" Daniel replied, monitoring other calls coming in.
"I am on the third floor. That's where most of the...uhh, people who have been shot are at." Jodi replied.
"Okay, how many people do you have, that are shot there?" Daniel asked, frantically pressing buttons on his keyboard.
"As far as I can tell...I have two...to...uh...roughly four, that I..that I have seen." Jodi responded.
"Okay, where-the person that did the shooting, where are they at, do you have any idea?" Daniel asked her.
"I have no idea, I have, I don't-" Jodi, said before getting interrupted by the dispatcher.
"Do you have a description of him at all, did you see him-" Daniel asked Jodi.
"As...As...As far as I can tell, umm...if I remember correctly, he was a white gentleman, probably about...5'8, had...um...kind of a mustache." Jodi started.
Other 911 calls ringing can be heard, in the background.
"Large gun. VERY large gun." Jodi replied, breathing heavily as she described the shooter to Daniel.
"H-How old is this gentleman?" Daniel asked.
"G-God, I really seen him from a far distance...he was probably in his..." Jodi said, inhaling in thought and worry.
Jodi exhaled and resumed speaking.
"...I wanna say around mid-twenties." Jodi replied.
"Twenties. What was he wearing?" Daniel asked.
"Oh, god...ummm...it was a dark jacket...dark jacket and...maybe dark pants. I really-I really didn't see him very well..." Jodi hesitated.
John entered information down, of the probable shooter down on his keyboard.
"He had black hair, I believe." Jodi said.
"Okay, dark colored...dark colored, is that right?" Daniel questioned her.
"Dark jacket." Jodi replied quickly.
"Dark colored jacket. Did he have a hat on at all?" Daniel asked.
"No." Jodi replied, shaking her head from her hiding place.
"Was the jacket long or short?" Daniel asked her.
"I wanna say...probably around...umm...God...waist to maybe butt." Jodi said, shaking in fear, where she was hiding.
"A-about waist. Okay." Daniel said.
"Waist or...yeah butt-" Jodi said, before getting cut off by John.
"Do you have any idea, where he went?" Daniel asked.
"I don't know, cuz...cuz I got down, so I didn't get hit." Jodi replied, fighting back tears.
"Okay, do you have any idea on what, type of gun it was?" Daniel asked her.
"It was large. It was a very, very large gun." Jodi said, waving her hand to her face, trying to cool down in fear.
"Okay...was it like a...pistol...type gun?" Daniel asked her.
"I-It was big. It had...umm...God, it looked like it-it wasn't a rifle but, it looked like an automatic type of a gun." Jodi replied.
"Okay." Daniel said, replying quickly.
"I-" Jodi said, before she was interrupted once more.
"Okay and where-these people who are shot, where are they at on the third level?" Daniel questioned.
"Third floor. One's over...in our locker room, which is the on...umm...north side of the building. And then also on the ummm..." Jodi said.
More 911 calls were coming in and can be heard in John's office.
"Sorry." Daniel replied back.
"And then, also on the...umm...east...east side of our building." Jodi replied.
"So, they're kinda scattered throughout, the third level there?" Daniel asked.
"Correct." Jodi replied, firmly.
"Okay." Daniel said, typing the relaying information down on the keyboard.
Jodi doesn't respond and waits, as John breathed in for a second.
"And your name is Jodi, is that correct?" Daniel asked her.
"Correct." Jodi said, finger swiping a tear from her right eye.
"And you're not injured, Jodi?" Daniel asked about her state.
"I am not-no-I-" Jodi said before getting interrupted.
"Okay, what's your cell phone number? You're calling from a business phone there." Daniel said.
"I-I-I am, because my cell phone is in my-in my office." Jodi replied.
"Okay, do you have a direct number to the phone, you have?" Daniel asked.
More calls were flood gating and coming in. John thought for a brief second, to let Jodi go and find a safer place to hide.
"I-I-I don't know." Jodi said, panic stricken on why that was asked to her.
"Okay." Daniel replied.
"It would link over the customer service...and...and that's where a lot of them, are down at." Jodi added.
"Okay, I'm going to keep you on the phone, okay?" Daniel said.
"Okay." Jodi exhaled in response.
"I'm-I'm going to set my phone down. Just for a minute, and I'll be right here with you, okay?" Daniel said to Jodi.
"Okay, okay." Jodi quietly whispered in response.
"Hold on." Daniel replied.
We are at 2 minutes and 47 seconds into the call.
There is no exchange of dialogue between John and Jodi for the next 30 seconds.
John can be heard in the background saying, "You guys, just worry about the fire part of it...don't answer anymore 911 calls." John said to his team.
The two resumed speaking to each other - at 3 minutes and 25 seconds into the call.
"Alright, are you still there?" Daniel asked Jodi.
"Yes." Jodi replied, quickly, relived to still be connected.
"Okay." Daniel replied.
"Do you have-have any of the injure parties there with you now?" Daniel asked her.
"I-I have one in view but, I cannot reach her." Jodi said, hiding in a back corner of her office, too fearful to move.
"Okay." Daniel responded.
A few seconds pass in silence as Jodi remains, scared out of her mind.
"So, you are down, out of sight right now?" Daniel asked her.
"Correct." Jodi replied.
"Okay." Daniel nodded in response from where he was at.
A split-second passes.
"I just want you down and...out of sight right now, okay?" Daniel added.
"Okay, okay." Jodi, quietly replied.
"D-Do you know, if any other people on the other levels, that have been shot?" Daniel said, raising an eyebrow.
"Uh, the only area I heard gunfire was on third floor." Jodi replied.
"Okay." Daniel said, typing the intel down.
"He come up the elevator and opened fire in the elevator area." Jodi said, grabbing the phone from her left ear to her right ear.
"Okay, so he...walked off the elevator and starting firing?" Daniel asked.
"He started firing in the air." Jodi replied.
"K." Daniel replied.
Another split second of silence passes.
"You don't know where he went after...or motive...after he shot his weapon?" Daniel asked Jodi.
"I don't-because I got down." Jodi replied quickly.
"Okay." Daniel replied.
More 911 calls and alarms can be heard in Daniel's office.
"I'm going to put the phone down again, okay? Hold on." Daniel said, placing the phone number for a few seconds.
"Okay, okay." Jodi replied quietly.
It's now 4 minutes and 24 seconds into the call.
At 5 minutes and 6 seconds into the call, a different dispatcher, Roxanne Whitaker briefly exchanges words with Jodi.
"Okay, 911?" Roxanne asked.
"Yes?" Jodi asked.
"Are you still holding...were you talking to fire rescue?" Roxanne asked her.
"I believe so, yes." Jodi replied.
"Okay, he had you on hold? Okay." Roxanne said, typing down more information coming in from the shooting.
"Yes." Jodi replied, quickly.
"Do you-u have any other information for me?" Roxanne asked Jodi.
"I-I can't think of anything, I'm sorry. I just stayed-I just heard the gunshots, and I got down as soon as possible, because I have kids." Jodi cried.
"Okay, we-I-I don't know, what he was having you keep on the line for, maybe-maybe to make sure that Police can find you." Roxanne said.
"Y-" Jodi said, before she was interrupted by Roxanne.
"But I'm putting you back on hold, because I have other calls on the line, okay?" Roxanne said.
Jodi gasped for fear, that she was about to be disconnected.
"Okay, okay." Jodi said, shaking in fear, breathing heavily in her response.
It's now 5 minutes and 40 seconds in the call.
"We got one victim. Gunshot wound. Code 99...we got...we haven't got a hold on security yet." An unknown dispatcher can be heard in the background.
6 minutes and 1 second into the call?
Daniel picks his phone back up.
"A-Are you still there? Jodi?" Daniel asked her.
"Y-Yes. Yes." Jodi replied, relived to still be connected.
"Okay. Alright." Daniel said.
"Are they here yet?" Jodi said, growing impatient in her hiding spot.
"Well...I'm sure the police...are there in the building but-" Daniel said, before Jodi cuts him off.
"Okay." Jodi replied.
"They got to...take their time to, getting up there so-" Daniel uttered.
"Right, right." Jodi said, grief stricken.
Jodi takes a closer look at one of her employees shot, nearby where she was hiding in the employee locker room.
"I just saw Mickey up here, in the locker room and she's got a lot on blood on the floor."
Micheale "Mickey" Oldham, was critically wounded in the shooting but survived. Most likely Jodi was referring to her.
Micheale "Mickey" Oldham died on April 19, 2016 at the age of 73.
The phone call resumed as John (unknown last name) interrupted Daniel Maines's conversation with Jodi.
"911, what's your emergency?" John interrupted.
"I'm on here, John." Daniel replied.
"Oh, sorry wrong one." John replied.
John left the conversation and monitored, someone else's 911 call coming in.
A loud thud can be heard in the background.
"HELLO?!" Jodi exclaimed.
"Yeah, I'm still here." Daniel replied.
"Okay." Jodi sighed in relief.
A seconds of silence pass.
"Our alarms have gone off..." Jodi said.
"Uh." Daniel said, admittedly ignoring Jodi.
It's now 6 minutes and 30 seconds into the call.
Silence is heard from both ends.
No further discussion is exchanged between Daniel and Jodi, until 7 minutes and 30 seconds into the call.
"Where are you at, on the third level?" Daniel asked her.
"I am in our employee locker room, which is the north side of the building." Jodi added.
"Employee locker room..." Daniel mumbled to himself.
A few taps of the keyboard can be heard in the background.
"So-employee locker room, that would be on the mall side, then, right?" Daniel asked.
"Correct." Jodi replied.
Silence is heard from both ends.
Dead silence.
No other dialogue is exchanged until 9 minutes and 28 seconds into the call.
"Okay. Hold on just a second again." Daniel said to Jodi.
John placed the phone down, as he was distracted by one of his co-workers.
"California...I got Jodi on the phone. Jodi. Talking to her now." Daniel said.
Silence.
"Jodi...Jodi...in the employee locker room...let her know." Daniel said, to one of his co-workers.
"I got Kathy. How many people can she see?" Another unknown voice replied to Daniel.
"Four or five." Daniel replied.
"Four or five, are they bleeding? Are they dead or they not-" The unknown man asked Daniel.
"No. Bleeding. Stop moving." Maines replied.
"I-Is the shooter, still there?" The unknown man questioned Daniel.
"Yeah. Some place in there. She doesn't know, where the shooter went-" Daniel said.
"Okay, she didn't-" The unknown man asked and interrupted Daniel.
"She seen the shooter but, she doesn't know where he went." Daniel added.
"Would he be on the third floor?" The unknown man asked.
"Don't know anymore. He was." Daniel replied.
"A-" The unknown man said.
"She's on the third floor and she's got several victims." Daniel added.
"Okay." The unknown man replied.
"So, police are there now." Maines said.
"What we're trying to do, is find out where the victims are." The unknown man said.
Jodi overhears the entire conversation.
"Because-" The unknown man said.
"I know." Daniel replied.
"Because they're calling the press...they're calling in everything...if the press calls, absolutely no phone calls to the press." The unknown man replied.
"I know. No." Maines replied.
"If the press calls, no phone calls to the press. They do not exist." The unknown replied.
10 minutes and 50 seconds into the call?
"Still there, Jodi?" Daniel asked her.
"Yes." Jodi replied, quietly.
"...How many people, do you see that have been shot?" Daniel asked.
"I see one but, I was over by customer service before, and I know there's one or two over there..." Jodi thought processed.
Silence for a few seconds.
"And where's customer service at, on the third level?" Daniel asked.
"They are on...the...east side of the building." Jodi, spoke quietly in response.
"East side. Okay." Daniel said, punching keys on the keyboard.
"And you think, there's two or three over there?" Daniel said.
"I know, there's one for sure. But I-I think there maybe, two or three yeah." Jodi responded.
"And you see, one there in the...uhhh..." Daniel thought processed.
"The Locker room." Jodi added.
"Locker room." Daniel nodded, in response.
"The locker room correct. And I don't know if there's any out there on-on the floor there." Jodi said.
"Okay, hold on a sec." Daniel said.
Daniel Maines puts the phone down, roughly for about 10 seconds.
It's now 12 minutes and 11 seconds into the call.
"Still, there Jodi?" Daniel asked.
"Yeah." Jodi replied.
"Okay...sorry it's taking so long...the shooter is far as we know is still in the building, so..." Daniel said.
Daniel Maines is interrupted by his other co-workers.
"Hold on, just a second again." Daniel said, growing irritated at the matter of being interrupted by other police officers.
"Okay." Jodi replied, softly.
"I'm still here. I'm not going any place on you. Hold on." Daniel said, calmly Jodi down.
Silence for five seconds.
12 minutes and 54 seconds in the call.
"Okay...still there Jodi?" Daniel asked.
Silence.
...
...
...
"Jodi?" Daniel said, getting concerned.
...
...
...
"Jodi?" Daniel asked.
"My location is the southside of Von Maur area, near the Cheesecake Factory. Set up the command post, near the Cheesecake Factory. East side." An unknown man spoke.
...
...
...
"Jodi?" Daniel repeated himself for a third time.
"Yeah." Jodi replied.
"Okay." Daniel replied.
Silence for about 8 seconds.
"Well, they're working their way up there, down on the first level...so...they just gotta, take this thing, one level at a time..." Daniel said.
"C-Can I transfer you to a phone, where I can lock myself into an-an office?" Jodi asked.
"If that's possible, that's great." Daniel nodded in response, shocked by Jodi's question.
"Okay. Let me transfer you there, please." Jodi said.
Cheery music can be heard in the background for about 15 seconds.
14 minutes and 13 seconds into the call?
Ring...Ring...Ring...
"Okay." Jodi started.
"Okay." Daniel replied.
"I'm in a secure office and nobody can get in here, unless they have the key." Jodi said.
"Okay, good." Daniel said.
Jodi sighs in relief.
"Are you in there, by yourself?" Daniel asked her.
"I am, yeah." Jodi replied.
"Okay." Daniel said.
"It's-It's our-lo-security office." Jodi stated.
"From you at in the locker room, to where you're at now, did you see anybody else?" Daniel asked her.
"Um, no. But I am in the security office, so I can look on our camera system and see...if there's anyone else is injured...it's looks like the officers are on the second floor." Jodi said.
"Yeah." Daniel replied.
"Ummm...let me look." Jodi thought processed.
"Third level is secure, so they should be the second floor by now?" Daniel asked her.
It was tizzy situation.
Jodi examines the security cameras, from where she was now at.
"I'm shaking so bad." Jodi sighed.
Silence for about 25 seconds.
We are now 15 minutes and 25 seconds into the call.
"Today is..." Jodi spoke to herself, quietly.
"Oh my-uh-I see people are injured." Jodi said, looking through the cameras in the room.
"Pardon?" Daniel said.
"...He came in, when he came in...he just..he came over and told people in customer service to "open the vault" Jodi said.
"He told them, to open the vault, when he went over to customer service?" Daniel asked.
"Yeah, he... "open the vault. open the vault." Jodi mimicked with what, she overheard.
"Jo, then this is probably some type of robbery that, then went bad." Daniel said.
"Correct, correct..." Jodi replied.
"Okay." Daniel said.
"Correct." Jodi added.
"...And you just see, the one guy by himself?" Daniel asked her.
"I'm sorry?" Jodi replied.
"Did you just see the one person by himself? Is that correct?" Daniel again asked.
"It was-yeah. It was just one guy. It was one guy." Jodi said.
"Okay." Daniel replied.
"We might-we might have gotten him on camera, I don't know. We can go back on our camera systems later...and see if we possibly had, the gentlemen on our camera systems." Jodi added.
"Alright, what's your last name Jodi?" Daniel asked.
"My last name is Longmeyer. L-O-N-G-M-E-Y-E-R." Jodi replied firmly.
Daniel types the information in, on the keyboard.
We are now 16 minutes and 20 seconds into the call.
About five seconds of silence pass.
"...Do you see anybody else shot on the camera?" Maines asked.
"Umm...as if right now...I only see..." Jodi said, looking at the cameras.
The camera shifts focus and jumps from one surveillance camera of the department store, to another.
"Hold on, just a second Jodi." Daniel said.
"Okay." Jodi replied.
Jodi gasps in horror.
Jodi Longmeyer can't believe, with what she's now witnessing.
"Oh my gosh...yeah there's...wait a minute...it looks like...it's looks like...the gun is laying, by over by customer service. There's an officer there now. I wonder if he-" Jodi gasps.
Jodi Longmeyer's jaw drops in horror, by the bloodshed she sees.
"Customer service on the third level?" Daniel asked.
"Correct...it looks like he might of killed himself." Jodi said, barely able to speak coherently.
"Okay...do you see him...see him laying by a gun?" Daniel asked.
"I SEE HIM LAYING BY A GUN!" Jodi began, crying and weeping.
"Okay, so you see a guy on camera, laying by on the gun, on the floor is that correct?" Daniel asked her.
"Correct and there's a officer, there too, laying right next to him." Jodi replied.
"Does it look like that's the guy, on the camera? Was that the guy doing the shooting?" Daniel asked her.
"Umm..." Jodi replied.
"Can you tell by the clothes he's-clothes?" Daniel asked.
"Ummm..." Jodi, again said unsure how to respond.
"The clothes he's wearing." Daniel added.
"It-yeah, it could've been. It's...It's about...8-I have to be able to see his face to be able to tell, because of his mustache. It looked like-he had a mustache." Jodi said.
"Okay...alright. Hold on just a second, okay?" Daniel said.

"Is that a customer walking around..." Jodi said, looking at the surveillance camera footage of the store.
Silence again.
"Still there, Jodi?" Maines asked.
"Yes, I am-" Jodi responded.
"Okay, good...do you see any more officers, up there now?" Maines asked.
"Uh, I see a bunch that just came up the third floor." Jodi said, looking at the camera system.
"Okay." Daniel replied.
Silence for a split second.
"Okay, where is this office th-that you're located in?" Daniel asked her.
"I am on-I'm-It's-it's inside our locker room, so I'm on the north side with where I'm at." Jodi responded.
"Is the locker room...okay...okay so it's north side...and you're up in the...security office correct?" Daniel thought processed.

Silence for ten seconds.
"Stiil there, Jodi?" Daniel asked.
"Yeah." Jodi replied.
"Okay...I'm trying to get the police officers to come get you." Daniel replied with certainty to her.
"Okay." Jodi said.
"So..." Daniel mumbled.
"They're...kinda of in our area. They're close to me. They're in lingerie." Jodi said.
"Okay." Daniel replied.
"They need to go through a set of double doors...and...and there's one person down in the locker room, they'll see." Jodi replied.
"Okay." Daniel said.
"I'm just in the office there. There's a lock extension on the door." Jodi replied.
"So, they should be able to see you...or you'll be able to see them, come to you on the camera right. Can you call the please as they come to you?" Daniel said.

"They got her." The unknown man's voice replied.
"They got her?" Daniel stuttered.
"Yeah." The unknown man's voice added.
"Alright...hang up." Daniel Maines replied.
