As the tram pulled into the Main Control Facility's tram station, Bob cautiously looked out the windows as he looked for any signs of danger. The platform itself was an utter mess with garbage, travel cases, blood, and body parts littering the ground. Further up the platform, and surrounding one of this platform's main entrances were a series of crudely constructed barricades. The Main Control Facility was one of the first places to be overrun, this must have been their last stand as they attempted to board any tram to escape the slaughter. Nevertheless, despite the carnage, and mess Bob saw nothing to indicate that any of the monsters were waiting for him. He let out a sigh of relief as he was still tired after dealing with that Brute.
The tram sluggishly came to a halt before its onboard power supply finally died, forcing Bob to pry the doors open to get off. Even though the area seemed clear, Bob didn't dare to let down his guard. The Main Control Facility served a secondary purpose of housing, mainly for the families of Imperial Officers, and Mining Guild Executives. Despite this, when the facility fell, many of these families were unable to escape to the temporary safety of the other facilities. A horde of these undead monsters could be lingering around any corner, waiting to pounce at the first scent of fresh prey.
Cautiously disembarking from the tram, Bob kept his E-11 at a low-ready position, ready to pull it up in a half-second at the first sign of danger. The first few steps away from the tram, and into the facility were met with no resistance, however, something was odd about the bodies he encountered laying on the ground. While he saw plenty of plain-clothed civilians, uniformed Imperial Officers, and Imperial Stormtroopers strewed throughout the facility, he also saw a great number of dead monsters. Most of them were of the "Slasher" variety, but a few of a variety he has yet to encounter.
The first body nearly gave him a heart attack as he saw a small pile of three Slashers on the ground, and figured he'd be in for one hell of a fight as he never battled more than one at a given time. However, after shooting the bodies, followed by a few ground-shattering stomps, caused no movements from them Bob realized that he wasn't the only survivor left. His heart began to beat faster as his hand grew more clammy as he reached for his helmet's built-in comlink. It should have automatically linked in with the Main Control Facility's frequency, so all he did was simply say "This is TK-1776, is there anyone on this frequency?"
He prayed that whoever was left was within range. The Main Control Facility was the largest of the main complexes built to support the mining operation, combined with the fact that his helmet's comlink was mostly meant for inter-squad communication left him with a concise range. Nevertheless, he prayed that there was truly someone else out there. Kneeled behind a stack of crates in a supply closet, Bob held his position for a few minutes as he waited for a response, but all he heard was static.
Bob let out a sigh of disappointment, whoever killed those Slashers must have either wandered off or had been killed themselves. He felt stupid for getting his hopes up and tried to tell himself that it hadn't been that long since he last saw another living person. However, he actually couldn't remember when the last time was. The only thing he could remember was running through the corridors, shortly after his squad was killed. He was panicking, the last attempt to mount an organized evacuation had failed, his squad was dead, the dead were coming back to life as mutated monsters to kill the living, and they were right behind him. He remembered tripping on a tipped-over waste bin, and while sprawled on the ground he spotted a young girl, possibly 15, give or take.
The horde of creatures was right behind him, and he only had a split second to react. He jumped to his feet, moved the girl to a nearby closet, and lured the monsters away. In the end, it was hopeless as when he later returned to retrieve the girl, he only found her shredded corpse where he left her. It was there when he originally lost his will, only surviving for survival's sake that was until he saw that Star Destroyer in low orbit. At that point he regained his will, and gained a new mission: get off this world, and survive so that the deaths of all those he failed to protect don't go unremembered.
Bob let out another sigh, climbed out from behind the crates, and back out into the corridor. As he continued his way to the "CAC" (Command and Control) station he came across more killed creatures, but he refused to let it give him unearned hope. Nevertheless, he still wondered who it was that killed these creatures, but Bob surrendered himself to never knowing
Coming up to a T-junction, he heard noises down the passage that veered to the left and took cover at the corner to peer over. Down the corridor was a group of three of the slasher-type of monsters. They appeared to be aimlessly wandering the corridor, but before Bob could think of a way past them, they stopped and appeared to be listening to something before leaping into the vents and vanishing. Bob thought the behavior to be strange, but shrugged it off and smiled to himself believing it to be mere luck.
As he got within 100 meters of the CAC he discovered something else: signs of actual battle. Whereas before he saw the dead creatures, here he found makeshift barricades, discarded blasters, blaster burns in the walls, and even a few dead Stormtroopers, not yet turned by the corruption that slowly crept toward their bodies. Then he heard it, the distinct: *pow, pow, pow* of blaster fire coming from the CAC.
