Chirp! Chirp!
Ah, morning time. It was...oh, what day was it again? Gumball glanced at the calendar and groaned. Guess what day it was.
Monday.
It was a Monday.
Gumball stood up and yawned. He quickly grabbed his clothes and put them on before heading downstairs with his bookbag.
"Morning, Gumball!" Penny greeted with a smile. She was holding Izzy while feeding her.
"Morning, Pen," he smiled, walking over to her. He gave both her and Izzy a kiss, "Morning, Izzy!"
"Dada."
"Aw, her first word!" Penny noted. She looked at Gumball with a smile and back at Izzy.
"Morning, kids!" Nicole addressed to Gumball and Darwin, who was walking downstairs.
"Mornin," Darwin managed to say before yawning.
"How'd you sleep, Darwin?" Gumball asked as he picked up Izzy and gave her a kiss.
"Good," Darwin replied, "Still tired, though."
"It's a Monday, dude, of course you're gonna be tired still," Gumball said with a smug.
Darwin rolled his eyes with a smile, "Yeah, yeah, I get it. Hey, Izzy, hey Penny."
"Uncl Darrin," she managed to utter. The family smiled in awe when Darwin smiled excitedly.
"I'm an uncle."
Gumball nodded with a sassy smile, "Yep. You seem to be her dad's brother."
Darwin squealed in excitement, "Izzy is so adorable!"
"She really is," Penny smiled, Gumball handing Izzy back to her.
"Come on, boys, the bus will be here any minute. Where's your sister?"
"I thought she was already down here," Gumball replied, heading upstairs, "I'll go get her." He walked upstairs and opened the bedroom door, "Time to wake up, little sis."
Silence.
"Anais?" he called out once again. He could hear her groan, "Come on, sis, you gotta get up."
"I bon't wfnt to."
Gumball climped the bunk and saw her cuddled with her Daisy the Donkey plush, her blanket wrapped, and her nose running. She gave a cough, and he felt her forehead, and sure enough, it was warm.
"I'm going to get mom," he said. He headed downstairs and grabbed Nicole's hand, "Mom, I think Anais is sick."
Nicole followed Gumball upstairs, who walked into his bedroom. Anais was flushed and she looked horrible. Nicole frowned and felt her forehead, "Oh dear, I think you're sick."
Anais groaned and put her head on her pillow, "I bon't wfnt to beh sichk."
"Gumball, you, Darwin, and Penny go get ready for school."
"Yes mom," Gumball said, walking out the door. He walked downstairs and motioned Darwin outside.
"What's wrong with Anais?" the fish asked.
"I think she has a cold or something," Gumball replied, "She's fine, though. Come on before we're late to the bus." The three walked to the door and turned the silver knob, which led them outside in the cold, windy air. It was almost winter, but it felt like it was already winter. The bus screeched it's brakes to a complete stop as the trio hopped on.
"Morning, kids!" Ricky smiled as they walked back to their seats.
"Morning, Rocky," the group said as they sat down.
"So, Darwin, are you enjoying your presents?" Gumball asked.
Darwin nodded, "My favorite one is the Carrie surprise!"
"That's my favorite, too," Carrie giggled in response.
"Hey, Gumball!" Alan said, waving with his balloon string while heading on the bus.
"Hi, Alan," Gumball said, "Anyways, my favorite is the book of memories and the ride of memories! It took me back, too!"
Alan sighed and sat beside Carmen. He was sad that Gumball didn't talk to him as much. Was it something he said? Perhaps it was something he did. Gumball wouldn't talk to him enough to answer why.
"Mornin, Alan!" Carmen said, quickly frowning when she saw his sadness, "What is it?"
"Gumball hasn't talked to me as much as he used to. Did I do something wrong?"
"I'm sure it's nothing," Carmen replied, "Maybe you can talk to him during lunch."
"Maybe," Alan agreed, "I'll go talk to him."
A couple of classes passed and it was lunchtime. Penny and Gumball were smiling at each other, Darwin and Carrie were smuggy, and Alana and Ember were by the cafeteria doors showing off their engagement ring. Alan walked over to Gumball's table and sat down.
"Hey, Gumball!"
"Hey, Alan," Gumball waved, "Anyways, so I went up to him and he's like—"
As Gumball continued talking, Alan sadly floated back to Carmen.
Carmen looked up at Alan and saw his frown, "I'm guessing it didn't go well?"
Alan shook his head, "Was it something I said?"
"Who is the most smart person you know?" Carmen asked.
"You, of course," Alan replied.
"Okay, anyone else?" Carmen giggled.
"Anais."
"Speaking of which, where is she?" Carmen asked, glancing around the cafeteria.
"Not sure, let me go ask Gumball," Alan said as he floated over to his table, "Gumball, where's Anais?"
"I don't know," Gumball replied, not even looking at him.
"She has a cold," Penny replied, glaring angrily at Gumball.
"What?" Gumball asked, not knowing why his girlfriend seems so angry at him.
"Why are you so mean to Alan today?"
"It's fine, Penny," Alan lied and walked back to Carmen, "Why do we need someone smart?"
"Well, duh, they would be smart enough to know why he's ignoring you."
"That makes no sense."
Over at Gumball's table, Penny was still angry.
"See, he said he was fine."
"He obvious lied, Gumball. You two are friends you need to start acting like it to him," she said before standing up and walking off.
Gumball sighed, "I see what she means." Maybe I should to talk to him, he thought to himself.
"So, you're saying I should come up with this huge gesture?"
"Gumball, remember the last time you went with a big gesture?" Penny asked, "We are not doing this again. No big gestures, just stop being mean to him, it's that simple. Talk to him, be nice, stop ignoring him."
"Can't be that easy."
"Gumball, stop slacking off and pay attention, damn it!"
Gumball paused. Penny had never yelled at him like this before, any less cuss at him. It instantly made him listen.
"Why was I dragged here?" Ember asked.
"Because you're smart, now give us ideas," Penny demanded, still with an angry tone.
"Walk up to him, apologize, hang out, friendship restored. It's that easy."
Penny looked at Gumball, who was still silent, "Come on, Gummy, let's go restore this friendship."
Gummy? Really? After cussing at Gumball, you immediately hit him with the pet name? He nodded, trying to hid the pain he felt. The whole way toward Alan's house, Gumball was silent. Penny noticed and stopped him, "Gumball, why are you silent?"
"Oh, u-uh, n-nothing," he stuttered nervously, ending with a nervous smile.
She nudged his shoulder, "Gumball."
"Nothing, okay?! Let's head to Alan's house, fix this friendship, so I can go home and cry!"
"Gumball, what's wrong?" Penny asked, trying to put her hand on his shoulder. Gumball hissed and pushed her away.
"Gumball, please tell me," Penny demanded.
Gumball shook his head, "I'm fine!" He stomped down the street and finally walked into Alan's yard. He knocked as Alan answered.
"Oh, Gumball," he cleared his throat, "What a, uh, surprise."
Gumball sighed, "I'm sorry for ignoring you, Alan."
"It's alright, Gumball," Alan smiled, "I know you didn't mean it, uh, what made you ignore me in the first place?"
"I dunno, I just got a lot of things on my mind," Gumballs aid, scratching his ear, "I-I also can be very dumb at times."
"Well, I don't think you're dumb."
"I know that, but some people can just hurt you sometimes. And sometimes I feel like I'm always that target."
"I feel ya, but don't forget, if you don't climb all the way to the top of the mountain, you'll never see the view," Alan winked.
Gumball smiled, "Thanks, Alan. I appreciate it. See you tomorrow?"
Alan nodded, "See ya."
Gumball turned around before bumping into Penny. She had her arms crossed, but her glare wasn't angry looking, it was...a worried look...or something like that.
"Oh, sorry, Penny," he said, trying to get by. Penny stopped him, still frowning, "Did I do something wrong?"
"Gumball, why didn't you tell me? Am I making you feel targeted?"
"No, no, of course not!" Gumball replied and Alan closed the front door, "I-It's not you!"
"Is this about earlier? I'm sorry for cussing st you, Gumball, you know I get frustrated easily."
"No, that's not why, and for the record, you never get frustrated," Gumball replied, "Or at least not so easily." Gumball squeezed through and headed back down the street. Penny ran up to him, turned him around, and kissed him on the lips. His pain healed, and he wrapped his arms around her.
"I'm sorry if I make you feel unworthy," she told him as they broke apart from each other, "I-I can be dumb at times."
"You're never dumb, Pen," Gumball replied, "You've never been dumb, and nobody should think it. I-I know you didn't mean to cuss, but to be honest, when you yell at me, I still can't help but feel pain, 'cause I don't want to lose you because of my dumb stupidity. I should've listened. I should've never ignored Alan in the first place, but that one time that Carmen had me make Alan jealous, things just changed for us..."
"I understand, Gummy, but you have to tell me these things," she responded, "You can't expect me to know everything you think about."
"Yeah, I know," Gumball replied, knowing it was the perfect opportunity for a joke, "That would be Darwin's job." The two laughed and kissed once again. At least they patched up with each other, and Gumball patched up things with Alan, too.
"How are you feeling, little sis?" Gumball asked as he entered his bedroom. She was still on the top bunk, bundled up and flushed. He climbed up the ladder and saw she was asleep. He smiled at his adorable little sister, "Good night, sis." He kissed her cheek and lied down beside Penny on his bed. Anais felt the kiss and smiled.
"Goog hight."
Gumball smiled as he closed his eyes, Izzy in her crib beside them, Darwin in his fishbowl, and his sister in her bundled blanket. Everything was just fine.
Right?
Right.
