The plan was working, but Goldberg pulled a fast one on everyone. He set a bomb in the hotel and it did some damage. Once Paul saw the bomb go off, he hurried up to the room. He swung right in through the opening and looked around.
"Sabella! Sabella!" Paul called as he was worried on what might have happened to her. He looked around and did spot a body that was badly burned from the explosion. "No... No..." He said as he feared that was her.
"Over here!" He heard Sabella's voice call from a different part of the room. He hurried over and saw her pinned down by some debris. Using his enhanced strength and webs, he cleared them all off her. She was injured, but at least she was alive. Once she was free, he hurried over to her and gently tried to help her.
"Thank God you're alive." Paul said as he could breathe a little easily. "What happened?"
"I heard my brother call that there was a bomb." Sabella said. "I instinctively tried to take cover from it. The explosion came from the room beneath this one."
"Sabastian set a bomb?!" Paul said as he couldn't believe he would do something like that.
"I don't think so. He said nothing about it." Sabella said.
"Unless it was a trap for you as well." Paul said as he believed Sabastian really would do something like that. "Where is Sabastian now?"
"I know he couldn't have set that bomb. He was outside the door, listening in for information about the weapons." Sabella said. "Someone else had to have set it. What about Abureddi?"
"Since that burned body isn't you, it has to be him." Paul said. Even though that wasn't Sabella, he didn't like that someone did just die.
"Hey! Sabella!" Lindsay called as she hurried into the room. "What the hell happened in here?"
"Lindsay, did you see Sabastian?" Paul questioned.
"No, but it does look like someone was dragged through here." Lindsay said. None of them were liking how this was turning out at all.
"Let's get Sabella to a hospital and figure things out from there." Paul said. Lindsay hurried over and helped lift Sabella as they were carefully moving her. Hopefully, they can put a stop to the insanity in all of this.
...
The Hospital
Paul and his friends went to a hospital to get Sabella's injuries treated. Luckily, she acted fast enough to avoid any of those injuries being life threating. However, things were still bad. They still don't know where the weapons are, Abureddi is dead when he was the only one that could tell them anything, and now a bomb went off that caused some real damage. Paul needed a moment to take it all in as he hung out on the roof of the hospital.
"Hey." Thomas said as he jumped in and sat next to him. "Lindsay says she's going to stay behind and watch over Sabella, so we can go looking for the weapons."
"Great, but I think I should be the one to stay behind and watch over her." Paul said.
"No way, man. You might be our best chance to get us out of this whole mess." Thomas said. "Besides, we're already in hot water. Goldberg is still out there with those weapons, and no one can find Sabastian."
"Sabastian? He's missing?" Paul questioned.
"Yeah. I was able to talk to Ray while he's investigating the bomb." Thomas said.
"Did you tell him what's been going on?" Paul said.
"I...had to. He wasn't happy that we left him in the dark." Thomas said. "Anyway, it doesn't really matter, does it? Abureddi is dead and he is probably the only one who could tell us what Goldberg did with those weapons."
"Not unless we can find Goldberg himself." Paul said as he stood up. "If Sabastian didn't set that bomb, I bet Goldberg was. That's why he didn't leave the hotel."
"Why would Goldberg do this?" Thomas questioned.
"Maybe he was planning to turn against Abureddi and keep the weapons for himself." Paul figured. It made sense since that does sound like something someone as ruthless as Goldberg would do. "Did Ray say anything? Did he find anything in the hotel?"
"He did take a look at the hotel security." Thomas said as he stood up himself. "He did see Goldberg leaving the place, and he had a person that matches Sabastian's description with him."
"Lindsay was right. Someone was taken away, but it was Goldberg taking Sabastian." Paul said. "Why would Goldberg take Sabastian with him?"
"I don't know, but does it matter? The guy is a psycho." Thomas said as he was talking about Sabastian. "Maybe we should let Goldberg do whatever he wants with Sabastian. If we're lucky, they'll take each other out."
"No one is ever that lucky." Paul joked. "Besides, if Goldberg took someone hostage, we have to help them. Even if that person is someone like Sabastian. He's still Sabella's brother. I've got to try and do something to help him."
"Even when the guy wants you dead? Tried to turn your girlfriend against you? Sabastian is just as ruthless as Goldberg." Thomas listed as he so didn't want to go and save him. "Why should we help him?"
"We're just simply good people. We're not heartless like they are." Paul claimed and he had Thomas there. He certainly wanted to appear better than either of those two. "What I don't know is how we're going to find them. Goldberg could have taken him anywhere."
"Well, Sabella did give me this." Thomas said as he pulled out a handheld device. "Although, I'm not really sure what it can do." Paul took it and fiddled around with it. He must have hit something correctly because it activated and a map of the city opened up with a red blip on it.
"It's a tracking device!" Paul said as he figured out what it was. "This must be telling us where Sabastian is. Tell Lindsay to stay close and watch over Sabella incase Goldberg comes for her or anything. We're going to rescue her brother."
"I can't believe we're actually doing this." Thomas complained, but he went with it either way.
...
Paul and Thomas
The two of them followed the tracking device to try and find Sabastian. If Goldberg has him, it can't be good. That is why they needed to hurry. There's also no telling what Goldberg will do to him. They made their way downtown and landed in the streets.
"According to this device, he should be around here." Paul said. They looked around for Sabastian, but they didn't see anything. There were also too many places they could be hiding. Thomas looked around and did notice something. There was a bit of blood on the ground and it was placed in front of a garage door.
"I think I got something!" Thomas called as he opened it up to reveal. "This is an old maintenance tunnel for the city, but this part has been practically abandoned. A great hiding spot."
"Let's go." Paul said as the two of them hurried inside. They made their way down to the tunnel and tried to find any sign of Sabastian.
"Think we're even heading the right way? It's like a maze down here." Thomas said.
"Seeing as how I don't know how to work this thing, I can only hope." Paul stated. The two of them kept moving until they heard grunting and yelling just ahead of them. "Sabastian!" They now found him and hurried to where he was. They found their way down to a large opening in the tunnel and saw Sabastian being tortured with him strapped to a table. Parts of his clothes were stained with blood, but it looks like he's holding strong.
"You will never get me to talk, swine!" Sabastian claimed.
"We'll see about that." His interrogator said. "Everyone has a breaking point, even you. Eventually, you will tell us everything we need to know, everything you have." The guy reached for a drill and was about to use it right on him, but that was when Paul and Venom stepped in as Paul shot a line and yanked the drill right out of his hands.
"There are nicer ways to ask someone for something." Paul said.
"Spider-Man! He's here!" The guy shouted.
"What about me? Am I third wheel?" Thomas questioned. That was right when a bunch of thugs showed up with them using some of Sable International's weapons against them.
"It's the bugs! Take them down!" One of them shouted as they opened fired on them, but they both moved fast. They both kept moving around and avoiding all the shots at them. Thomas jumped on some pipes as a few of them tried to shoot him down. When he was in the right position, he webbed a pipe and pulled with all his might. The pipe broke off and hit three of them in the back of their heads. As for Paul, he jumped around as he moved closer to two of them and kicked them both in the head. Once he was in the clear, he hurried to Sabastian.
"What are you doing?" Sabastian questioned.
"What does it look like? I'm getting you out of here." Paul said as he was able to free Sabastian. "Now, if you want to get out of here, help us fight!" That's the one thing they both could agree on. Just as two were about to shoot at them, they both took cover behind the table.
"Do you have a weapon?" Sabastian questioned.
"Do you really need a weapon?" Paul said. He came out and fired a series of webs at two of them. They hit and blinded him and clogged the weapons. Sabastian moved in and attacked both of them, taking them out in one shot each.
"Grab the prisoner!" One thug tried to get him, but Sabastian kicked him right in the head easily.
"Wow. He's making what I do look easy." Paul said as he moved around. A few of them tried to shoot him, but he slid down them. He shot a couple lines as he passed them and yanked both of them down.
"Let's give them a good spin." Thomas said as he shot a couple lines at two of them and gave them a good psin before he threw them across the room.
"I must admit that your webs would make effective weapons!" Sabastian said as he fought more of them off. "However, must you always make jokes? That is highly unprofessional."
"It actually comes with the job." Paul said as he jumped up to the ceiling and shot two lines at one. He yanked the guy up as Paul dropped down and hit him across the face with the thug crashing into the ground. The three of them regrouped, but they saw they were surrounded with all of them men armed and ready to fire.
"Nowhere to run now!" One thug said as they were all about to fire. However, they didn't get the chance as a grenade was thrown in and caused an explosion that surprised the thugs.
"Everyone down!" That was right when Sable Agents came running in. Obviously from the use of their own tracking devices, they found the location. Some of them came storming the place and took the thugs prisoner. After a moment, Sable took complete control of the place while Sabastian's injuries were being treated.
"How are you doing?" Paul asked.
"My pride is hurt, but I will heal." Sabastian claimed, but there was something else that was puzzling him. "I'm a little surprised you came and rescued me. I thought you despised me."
"You would also be interested to know that Sabella is okay." Paul said as he didn't like he didn't seem to care about her. "Listen, Sabastian... We know about what's going on in Symmkaria. We want to help, but we don't really approve of your methods. Plus, Goldberg is our enemy too. That means we have a common one. There has to be a way we can work together."
"Do you know why Goldberg took you in the first place?" Thomas asked. Sabastian didn't really like them, but the fact that they rescued someone they despised got to him. Also, Paul's reasoning was logical.
"Goldberg was the one who set the bomb back at the hotel. Abureddi was going to give our weapons to our nation's enemies. Goldberg killed him to take them for himself." Sabastian said.
"We already figured that one out." Thomas said.
"What you don't know is this. I have a ship docked out at sea. Goldberg wanted to know where it was." Sabastain said. "I didn't tell him, but he somehow already got the location.
"He must be planning to get his hands on whatever he can back on that ship." Paul theorized. "He already has some weapons, but he wants more. He wants to use those weapons to take control of our city."
"Not unless we stop them." Sabastian said as he's actually proposing teamwork with them. To stop Goldberg, two sides that despise each other will have to work together.
