I started this fanfic back in the summer, but forgot about it, and re-edit some of the story after watching the recent episodes of S16…
It was a hot summer Friday evening as William came home from a long week of work and was so happy it was the weekend. As he got into the door he heard Susannah crying, "Julia?"
"Nursery, William" she called out
He walks to the nursery and sees Julia cradling crying Susannah in her arms, "Julia, what is wrong?"
"She has a fever, and won't stop crying. I gave her a cool bath…but" she said as she began crying as William hugged them both, and felt Susannah's forehead, "she does feel quite warm…is she teething?"
"No, William, it's either cold or the influenza or…I don't want her to die" Julia says as she begins crying even more in his arms.
He cradles them both in his arms, "shh, Julia, just breathe" as begins her breathing exercises
"Ok, first thing is first, she won't die. She is a strong little girl. Second isn't Rebecca working at the clinic today?" William asked
She nodded, "yes, ok let's take her to the clinic"
They arrived at the clinic and enter Julia's office, "place her on the bed William, while I'll get Rebecca."
"Nurse Sullivan not helping?"
"Visiting her mother in Ottawa"
Rebecca arrives and helps Julia examine Susannah as William decides to wait in the hall, "William please stay. I know Susannah would want her daddy to stay"
He agrees and stays as they continue examining Susannah.
It was an hour later, as Julia rubbed Susannah's belly, as she slept, "I don't know what's wrong, William. Its not a cold or the influenza."
"I hate to ask but Pneumonia or yellow fever?" he asked
"I don't know" Julia begins crying again, "what if we can't and its too late…and we can't…"
William caressed her face, "Julia, that won't happen. Remember she is a strong and you will find the problem and get the right medicine"
She nodded and gave him a hug, when they heard a knock on the door, "excuse me, Julia"
"Yes, Rebecca"
"Ellie has come to see how Susannah is doing"
"Of course, let her in"
"Actually, she wants to see you both out in the hall. I'll watch over Susannah"
"Thank you" Julia said as she and William walked out in the hall and saw Ellie pacing back and forth, "Ellie"
"Dr. Ogden, Detective, how is Susannah faring?"
Julia putting on a brave face, "were still finding what is wrong but she's a fighter"
"Oh, uh…" Ellie says as she bites her nail
"Is there something, wrong Ellie?" William asked
"When did her symptoms begin?"
"This afternoon, why?" Julia asked
"The other day, I took Susannah to the park." She said with a pause
"Yes, go on…something happen?" William asked
"She was playing with the Donald's baby girl Fiona, and I was talking to Josie, their nanny, who's a good friend of mine."
"Ok…" Julia said confused
"Anyway, we were talking, when Josie noticed Susannah put Fiona's toy in her mouth and took it out of her mouth. Apparently Fiona, just got over a bad case of mono."
Julia's eyes went wide, "WHAT?!"
"I'm sorry. I thought it was strange that Josie would even bring Fiona to the park, with just getting over mono. But her parents assisted she get fresh air"
She put her hands up and was ready to explode, when William told her, "breathe, Julia"
"William, stop…please"
He let her go, when he asked Ellie, "how many days was it that the baby had mono before going outside?"
"According to Josie, 2 days"
"They should have waited! Babies need at least 5-7 days of recovering! Why would you put our baby in such danger, Ellie?!
"Julia, please calm down"
"William, stop telling me to calm down! And second of all, Ellie your fired!"
"Julia?"
"No, William, she put our daughter in danger. If she dies, were charging you. Never come near us ever again!" Julia yelled and stormed back into her office
"Ellie, maybe it's best you leave" William said
Ellie begin to cry, "I'm sorry, truly"
William nodded and watched Ellie leave as he went back into the room and saw Julia giving Susannah mouth to mouth, "Julia?"
"She stopped breathing, detective" Rebecca said holding back the tears
"Come on, baby, please come back to mommy" Julia cried as she kept doing compressions to Susannah's chest.
