As Susannah fell asleep in the crib, Julia walked over to William as he was placing her tea on her desk, as she shook her head, she looked at him, "maybe…I was a tad harsh with Ellie. I was just upset"
"Yes, understandable, but I explained it all and she forgives you and is relieved Susannah is doing better" he said as he gave her a side hug and kissed her on the forehead
She looked up at him, "what did you say to her, William?"
"About, how long we have married and why Susannah is our only child"
She grabbed her tea and took a sip, as she leaned against her desk, "did you tell her about the miscarriages?"
"I did and she now knows why Susannah is our miracle and she would love being the nanny again, if you're ok with that?"
Julia nods as she places the tea back on her desk and wraps her arms around his neck, "yes, she is excellent with Susannah. But only when the time is right…she can come back"
"Of course," he responded back as they kissed
It was a week later, Susannah fully recovered and finally home, but Julia still took a leave of absence for only a week, which turned into a month. She put Susannah first, even sleeping in the nursery, which frustrated William. So, he decided to set a date night for him and Julia, while Ellie took care of Susannah.
As he got home early for their date night, he noticed Julia wasn't even getting ready, as played with Susannah on the living room floor, "Julia…we have plans, remember?" he said in a calm but slightly mad voice
"I know, William, but maybe we can cancel it and have a night in?"
He shook his head, "no, I have it planned were going to have new French restaurant you have been wanting to go to. Susannah will be fine, since she recovered."
"Fine, I'll take a bath and get ready." She said as she got up, and walked down the hallway, as she turned, "anything specific dress you want me to wear?"
"The red one…you know the one" he said with smirk
"As you wish, detective"
It was a couple of hours later, as William and Julia finished their dinner, as he remained at their table waiting for their tea and desserts, while, Julia called Ellie for the 5th time to see how Susannah was doing.
As Julia walked back to the table, William sat back up as she sat down, "she is doing fine, went to sleep"
"Like I said she would."
"Yes, you're right, so I can just enjoy our dessert now"
"Good and here it comes now"
"Madame, your chocolate souffle" a waiter with a French accent said as he placed Julia's dessert in front of her, "and monsieur, poached pears, enjoy" he said with a bow and left
"Thank you, this looks delicious"
"It sure does, enjoy it Julia"
After paying and leaving the restaurant, they catch a carriage and headed home. In the carriage, the couple began making out, like they did on their first date, "my gosh…I…have…missed this" Julia said between kisses
"Me too…if you're up to it…when we get home and after checking in on Susannah want to go to sleep or…" he said as he kicked her neck
She moaned into his ear, which he missed, "or, definitely or…"
When they finally got home, they paid the carriage driver, and headed inside, and saw Ellie reading in the living room, "how is she?" Julia asked
"Still sleeping, since last time you called. I just checked on her 5 minutes ago" Ellie said as she began putting on her coat
"Thank you, Ellie" William said and paid her
"You're welcome, good night" Ellie said
After Ellie left, William locked up, as Julia got undressed and ready for him. As he entered their bedroom, she wasn't in bed.
"Hmm, maybe in the bathroom?" he thought to himself as he check the bathroom, but it was empty and went back into the bedroom, that when he saw Julia on the baby monitor, in the nursery, "not again" as he walked into the nursery.
"Julia?" he said as he saw her in the rocking chair with a blanket and pillow
"That's ok, we don't need too. We can just cuddle and sleep"
"I rather sleep in here with her"
William let out a sigh, and couldn't take it anymore, as he bend down, "Julia was is wrong? What's going on?" he whispered
"Nothing"
"Its been a month, you're not working anymore and constantly hovering over Susannah. Also, we haven't been intimate in a while"
She gasps, as she gets up and walks into the hallway, as he runs after her, "Julia, please talk to me"
"Why, so I can fulfil your sexual desire?"
"No, Julia. I'm sorry. I am just wondering what is the matter? You say nothing, but something is worrying you"
"Nothing, can I not watch her sleep?"
"Yes, but not every night. You need proper rest in our bed"
"I know, but I need to know she is safe and…not hurt or sick…or worse…dead" she says as she begins sobbing
He grabbed her head, "Julia…are you scared she's going to get sick again?"
She nodded and cried in his arms
"Shh. It's alright. But Julia, its part of life…everyone gets sick"
"I know, but we almost lost her. I can't bear to lose your child, William. Since I can't give you more"
He continues holding her, "she's ours, Julia and we won't. Remember when Ellie immediately told you, how she got pneumonia and she recovered."
"I know, but I fear God was punishing me, because I wanted to return to work and…I'm a bad mother."
"Julia, you're such a great mother to Susannah. Just seeing how she snuggles into you when you hold her. Her smile every time she sees you coming home or entering the nursery."
"I know, but ever since what happened in University…"
"Julia like you told me years ago, you weren't ready and weren't in love with the man"
"What about Mary?"
"She wasn't meant to be ours physically but emotionally."
"I know, but I still love and miss her"
"Me too, Julia, but God gave us a second chance and we weren't even trying. Susannah is our miracle, always remember that"
She nods, "you're right, I am so sorry for the way I have been acting?"
He gives her a kiss on the forehead, "its alright. I forgive you. Now do you still want to sleep in the nursery or in our bed?"
"Our bed, I just want to check on Susannah one more time and grab the pillow and blanket. But I am still too tired for or…"
"Not a problem, we will just sleep and cuddle and I'll be waiting" he said with a smile
She gives him a kiss, "thank you"
"Of, course" and walks back to their bedroom
As he walks away, Julia goes back into the nursery and sees Susannah still sleeping and smiles as she caresses her cheek, "oh my love, I promise you mommy and daddy will take care of you and protect you always" and leans over, kisses her cheek, grabs the pillow and blanket and heads back to her and William's bedroom.
