Chapter 2: Arc 2 Part 1
Carriage, Ren POV
'Re:Zero, huh? Talk about bad luck. I mean, of all isekai worlds, it just had to be this one. There's nothing wrong with the show or LN its just the world basically runs on Murphy's Law.' I can only sigh in a mix of disappointment and melancholy.
'I mean what happens if I die in this world? Do I have RBD? Or am I just doomed to die eventually? I mean my name isn't Subaru Natsuki, so I probably don't have it. I actually don't really want it to be honest, look at how bad Canon Subaru turned out. He has nightmares of his previous deaths, and he can't afford to be alone with his thoughts too long or else he'll either start having negative thoughts and/or cutting himself.' The more I think, the less happy I get.
'Lide said I'm connected to that plane, didn't he? Maybe he has some answers for me. Hey Lide, you there?'
'Is something the matter, Field operator?' His voice rings out in my head surprising me.
"Ahh!" Oh, shoot. Now Emilia is staring at me with a worried expression. "Are you alright, Ren?"
"Don't worry, it was just umm... a bad dream! Yeah! A bad dream, that's it." 'Wow, what a convincing lie."
"If you say so." Judging by her tone of voice, it's safe to say, she isn't convinced.
I avert my gaze towards the window in the carriage and notice a giant tree in the distance.
'Hey Lide, Is that what I think it is?'
'That is indeed Flugel's Tree.'
'Huh, it's quite the big tree, Well it doesn't matter. Do you have any answers for my questions?'
'Of whether or not you have RBD? The answer would be no. However what you do have is, Me. The second you die, you will be returned to the Ethereal Plane to start over.'
'Ok so I do have a form of RBD... What about Roswaal? Does he know I'm here?'
'Well I can't just ruin all the fun, Now can I?'
Figures. 'What about my gate and my affinity?'
'Your gate is quite developed. Your affinity however Is All.'
'Huh? All? Isn't that a bit unfair?'
'Unfair? Far from it, actually. You are essentially a Jack of all Trades, Master of None.'
'Nothings ever easy, huh? Especially not in this world.'
'Speaking of worlds.' Oh no. 'If you are able to use 3 different EL type spells and one UL spell with your own gate by the clearing of the Sanctuary, I will reveal the next world you're heading to.'
I mean I was going to make that a goal for myself eventually, All you've done now is put a time limit on it. 'Alright you've got yourself a deal!'
'I shall leave you to it then. Good luck, Field operator. You'll need it.'
He's probably monitoring me, as we speak. Well whatever.
Outside the Mathers Estate
"Welcome to our Estate, Honored Guest." Seeing the maid twins has given me another reason to live.
"Rem, Rem. The guest is undressing us with his eyes."
"Sister, Sister. The guest is making lewd scenarios up in his head."
'No matter who it is they'll still do it? Talk about being mean.'
"Hey you two, there's no need to tease him!" Emilia, you're too nice, even in the dumbest situations.
"We're sorry, Lady Emilia." They answer in unison. 'Kinda creepy.'
"No, it's fine" I wave it off with a yawn. "Honestly I'm too tired to really care, do you have a room I could sleep in?"
"I'll lead you to your room, Honored guest." Ram spoke up, huh. Either she's being nice or Roswaal has told her to identify if I'm a threat or not.
"Goodnight Ren, have a nice night."
"You too, Emilia." We exchange goodbyes and I follow Ram towards wherever she's leading me to.
~Break~
"This will be your room for tonight, Honored guest." Ram says showing the same room as Subaru's when he was a guest.
"Thank you and Good night, Miss Ram." I say heading towards the bed.
"Goodnight, Honored Guest." Ram says leaving the room.
I lay down on the bed. Exhausted from the small fight between Elsa, and from just being awake for so long. After a few minutes of laying down, I finally go into dreamless sleep.
Early Morning, Guest Room
'Oh, man that was some nice sleep. I wonder what time it is. It looks like it's early still, I'll start with my morning workout first.' I start heading towards the door out of the room. I gently open the door... The blue haired maid that greets me doesn't really surprise me.
"Good morning, Miss?" I ask her, as if I didn't really know who she was.
"Rem's name is Rem, Honored Guest."
"It's nice to meet you, Miss Rem. My names Ren Fujimura." I say offering a handshake.
She just stares at my hand. After a bit of silence, I just put my hand down and scratch the back of my head awkwardly. I end up breaking the silence first. "Miss Rem, is there somewhere I can workout?"
"Workout?" All I get is a confused stare.
"Yeah to Train, yknow." Realization finally hits her.
"Oh, any of the yards will do, as long as you don't destroy the bushes nearby."
"Thank you, Miss Rem." I can tell she's suspicious of me already. If I don't do anything that makes me appear trustworthy, that suspicion may turn into hostility soon.
~Break~
'I've finished my 45 minute workout. I have around an hour of time to practice my magic before I have to head back... What element to practice though? Fire, Earth and Water are out. Most of these will mess up the bushes nearby, and Water is basically just healing magic. The only Yang spells I know are Jiwald and Hell's Snipe and I don't really know any buff spells. So Yang is out as well.
That leaves both Wind and Yin magic. I can just shoot Fura at the air and practice my Shamak as well.'
'Remember the feeling of letting mana flow out of my gate, and visualize the spell.' "Fura!" 'Nice! but the spell isn't as fast as I would like it to be.'
Faster.
"Fura!"
More Power.
"Fura!"
Too Slow.
"Fura!"
~30 Minutes Later~
"Fura!"
'That last one was the fastest one I've done so far.'
I lay on the grass, out of breath. 'I've gotten faster with the visualizing of spells. It only takes around a second for the spell to come out, but I think that's enough Wind magic for now. Onto Yin now.'
"Shamak!"
~20 Minutes Later~
"Shamak!"
"Phew, I am so not used to this. Last thing to do is... Spirit Arts! Come out Lil buddy!"
Out comes my temporarily contracted spirit, happy as I was. Brighter than before as well.
"Is it just me or did you get bigger and brighter?" I ask my spirit friend.
He makes a nodding motion, so I can only guess it has evolved into a quasi-spirit.
"Does that mean you can cast higher level spells?" Another nod. Excitement starts to fill me and in turn it starts to fill him too.
"Alright Lil Bud, I've got a new spell for you to learn. It's called Murak, Think you can do it?" I get unsure nod this time.
"All you need to do is visualize me having less gravity holding me down. You think you can do it?" I receive a more confident nod.
~Break~
After training I headed back in to the estate for a shower.
Once finished with my shower I put on a robe. Heading back into the guest room, where I meet up with both of the maids.
"Um... Hello, you two." I say awkwardly.
"Finally going to unleash your beastly desires, and ravish us?" Ram shoots at me. 'Very funny.'
"Why would you assume that? Unless it's actually you who wants it to happen." I say back.
"As if I would want to even get near such a disgusting creature like you."
I clear my throat to change the subject and get their attention. "Do you two by any chance have any change of clothes for me? My other clothes are quite dirty." I explain to them my situation.
"Heh, Just like a mutt to dirty themselves."
Not one to take things lying down I respond with. "Oh, Im sorry, I could've sworn you were one of the maids here. Didn't know you were the jester."
"*sigh, Miss Rem, is there any spare clothes for me?" 'Are you just going to stare at me the whole time? You are? ...Great.'
"Miss Ram, Can I please get some clothes?" I ask the only person that's even willing to speak with me.
"Atleast you know how to talk to your betters." Can I just get some clothes?!
"The clothes? please?" With a huff she leaves. Leaving me alone with the Blue haired oni. 'What could possibly go wrong.'
~Break~
'Just about everything it seems.'
"Tell me, who sent you here?"
"Sent me? I'm sorry but I wasn't sent anywhere. I was invited here by Emilia, for helping her in the Capital."
"You still accepted the invitation, knowing who she was?"
"Is this about her looks? Because if it is, I find it really rude to judge someone based on their looks or what they are."
"Then you do not know then."
"I don't know what, what are you talking about?" 'Does she think I was sent here by one of Emilia's political enemies?'
"I believe Master Roswaal will explain it during breakfast. I shall be going then."
"Um.. Alright, bye." I say waving good bye.
Now onto waiting for Ram.
Guest Room
Ram eventually came back with clothes. The clothes however looked very similar to Joker's metaverse outfit. I get the feeling Lide was involved in this. The only thing missing was the Domino bird mask.
'Even the signature red gloves are here. Man, what has my life become.'
Knock, Knock* "Hey Ren, are you awake?" I hear Emilia call out from behind the door.
Being already ready for breakfast, I open the door. "Good morning Emilia, How was your sleep?"
"It was good thank you, and good morning to you too."
"Well, how about we head down for some breakfast? I'm dying of starvation over here."
"I was just thinking the same thing." She starts leading me towards the dining hall. Until, I'm hit with a feeling. The feeling to open the door closest to me.
Wham!*
I'm greeted to a lonely girl in the Dimensional Library. "Who are you, I suppose."
"I'm Ren Fujimura. Nice to meet you Lonely Loli." I introduce myself to the 400 year old loli.
"I am not lonely, In fact! And Betty's name is Betty."
"Well, It's nice to meet you Loli named Betty."
"Stop calling Betty that word! Betty doesn't understand what it means, and it irritates Betty to no end, in fact. And you! Is Bubby with you?"
"Hey Betty, How have you..." Puck appears out of his crystal.
As they talk I start a conversation with Emilia. "So is Betty her real name?"
"No, of course not, her real name is Beatrice." She tells me.
"I see." I say absent-mindedly picking up a book from the ground. I open the book and notice I can read it. 'This must be Lide at wor-.' I'm not able to finish my thought as I'm pushed away by a strong gust.
My landing was not the best. "And what do you think you're doing? I suppose."
"Sorry, I was just testing out if I could read." I get strange looks, until I realize what I said. "You see, I haven't read a book in a while you know?"
"That doesn't explain why you're still here, I suppose."
"Oh! Me and Emilia here, were heading to get breakfast until I got the sudden feeling to open this door. And here we are."
"A feeling? That's impossible, unless you are...No, nevermind. In fact."
Ignoring that. "Would you like to join us for breakfast? You'll get to hang out with Bubby for longer." I try to sweeten the offer.
"Come on Betty, you should come eat with us." 'Good going, Puck.' I give him a thumbs up.
"Well... Only because you asked Bubby. I suppose. And you boy, come here, in fact."
I already know where this is going. I wonder how she'll react to my infinite mana pool.
She places her hand on my stomach and activates her mana drain. 'My stomach feels itchy now.'
"What are you, in fact?" She asks in shock at least from what I can guess.
'Shouldn't I be asking you that question?' "I'm Human, of course."
"Is something the matter Betty?" Puck asks concerned.
"No matter how much mana I drain, his Mana instantly regenerates back to it's original amount, I suppose." She explains to rest.
"Wow, Ren you must be suuuper strong, huh?"
"Nope, I actually just started doing magic."
"He's not lying, but that does beg the question of how you're able to do it." 'Way to put me on the spot, Puck.'
I can't really lie now, can I? "It was a gift from my benefactor." I say without thinking. 'If the hole I dug for myself wasn't deep before it sure as hell is now.'
"Benefactor, huh? Who would that be?" Puck's voice filled with suspicion.
"You wouldn't know him, his names Lide. He told me to explore the world and get stronger." I decide to be honest, hiding crucial details instead of outright lying.
"Alright then." His voice more normal now, but I could tell he was still suspicious.
"What are you all still doing in here? I believe I told you all to leave. In fact."
"Alright see you at breakfast, Bea." I say as I leave with Emilia.
"Who said you could Betty by that name?!"
'She looks kinda cute when she's mad.'
"Field operator, I must stop you from going down this path."
'I didn't mean it in a weird way! She's kinda like a daughter or little sister figure.'
"Good, wouldn't want you stuck in jail. Goodbye, Field Operator."
Dining Hall
"Y'know Miss Ram, When I called you the jester of the estate. I didn't know I was insulting this guy's profession. And for that I rescind my statement from before."
"To insult the Margrave of this Land. You are quuuite the energetic young man, My dear Ren." Man his speaking mannerisms is kiiinda annoooying.
"Um, Ren. That man is the lord of this mansion."
"Hey Emilia, You shouldn't disrespect the court mage of Lugnica like that. I would understand not liking the guy, but to call him a clown is downright slander."
"As Miss Emilia said, I am indeed the lord of this Estate, Roswaal L. Mathers."
"Hey man, there's no need to go along with the joke if you don't want to. Identity fraud is a serious crime, y'know."
"..." They're all staring at me. Unamused.
"You're serious, aren't you?" I ask the clown next to me.
He gives me a nod. "Ahh... Mister Mathers, it's a pleasure to meet you. Can I just say you look quite dazzling today and everyday. And your servants... Well they've been quite Hospitable, to say the least."
"Will you quit it with this "Fake" Fake attitude of yours, I suppose." Bea finally comes in.
"Aww, man there you go ruining my little joke... Nice of you to join us, Bea."
"The only joke here is you... And who said you could call Betty by that name. In fact."
"Oh Dear me, is thaaat you Beatrice? How very niiice of you to join uuus."
"I certainly didn't come for you, in fact."
"Was it because of me then? Wow, I'm flattered you think of me that way, Bea." This gets a small blush on her face.
"W-What!? O-Of course not! Why would Betty, a Great Spirit come here because a moronic fool like you asked her to! I suppose."
"Phew, sure, sure. Whatever you say Bea... Well I don't know about you guys but I'm starving."
~Break~
"So you've been tasked with exploooring the world and getting strooonger? That is quuuite the task."
"I know right? But I owe him my life, so it's the least I can do."
"Speeeaking of; I guess I ooowe you as weeell. After all without it Miss Emilia wooould be disqualified from theee royal selection."
"Oh yeah, Lugnica's Royal family did die out, didn't they?"
"The fact you can saaay that so calmly, indicaaates that you're not from arooound here."
"I mean your not wrong. Before all this, all I would do was stay at home. Doing nothing all day, hoping that one day something would change. To one day go out again into the unknown to explore. I guess it did eventually end up happening, I mean I'm here now, am I not?"
"Yes, you are, and I'm quuuite thankful... Now about that rewaaard. What wooould you like?"
"I'm going need some funds if I want to go out and explore the world" I mumble under my breath. "Ahem... I've decided! Hire me as a Butler! I can guarantee you, I'll clean this mansion so spotless like you've never seen before!"
"A butler? but of cooourse... How about this? I paaay you a little mooore than normal as an added booonus." 'Quite generous.'
"Wow, that's a deal I can't refuse! I'll accept your offer, on one condition!"
"And what would thaaat be? My deeear, Ren."
"Let me work in this outfit. I've gotten quite attached to it." I state my condition.
"That caaan be arranged. Will thaaat be all? And aaas The Lord of this Estate, I'd liiike to welcome yooou as a Butler heeere."
2 Days Later, Early Morning

'Life as a Butler has been kind of boring.'
"30." Wake up in the morning, Workout, Magic training, Shower, Work for the day, Sleep, Repeat.

I can atleast pride myself in being praised by Rem for my cooking. "32." She went from suspicious of me to friendly, once my story was confirmed by Puck. "33."
Speaking of, I haven't really talked with Emilia since I was hired. "34." Wonder if she's been busy lately, with the reveal of the Royal Candidates coming up soon.
"35." I've gotten pretty far with my magic. "36." ''m pretty sure I'm on the edge of a breakthrough, soon. "37." I should be able to cast El Shamak and El Fura soon enough. "38." After that I'll probably start working more on my Fire affinity. "39" It's quite versatile, you control both Fire and Ice.
"40, and done." I start to stand after my Workout. "Woohoo! Now onto magic training."
"So, this is where you go in the morning." I'm suddenly ambushed by the Royal candidate.
"Ah! Ahem. Lady Emilia, Good morning. How was your sleep?" Gotta stay respectful to those who have a higher social status.
"It was good, thank you. Good morning, to you as well."
"Can I help you with anything, Lady Emilia?"
"Jeez, there's no need to be so formal, Calling me Emilia is just fine. And for your Information, I was just curious as to what you were doing."
"Lady Emilia, I don't believe anyone says "For your Information." Anymore. As to what I was doing. That's simple. I was doing my morning training. I workout my muscles first, After that I start to work on my magic."
"Jeez, there's no need to tease me!" The crystal on her chest starts to glow, and out comes Puck with a right hook!
Squish* 'Subaru was right, his fur is soft.'
"What was that for? It didn't hurt or anything, just wanted to know why."
"These feelings of embarrassment. I had to get them out somehow."
"I see." I don't.
"So my actions are completely justified, you see." 'Mhm, whatever helps you sleep at night.'
"Lady Emilia? Are you alright?" I finally notice her just staring at me.
"Everything's fine. It's just really surprising to see you interact with a great spirit with such ease. You must have quite the spirit affinity."
"Really? He just looks like a really soft cat." I point out his soft looking fur.
"Wow, you're really honest. You haven't lied once." The living lie detector points out.
"You think so?"

Gazebo
"Shouldn't you be studying, Lady Emilia?" I ask the queen to be.
"Shouldn't you be working?" Touché. "And didn't I tell you to start calling me Emilia?"
"Are you sure? I mean we're both on opposite sides of the social ladder."
"That doesn't matter! I-I mean I want for us to be friends."
"Friends, huh? Sure why not?" I mean I don't have a problem with it, As long as your Father doesn't burn or freeze me alive.
"Really? Even if I'm a half elf?"
"Yes really, and from the little we've interacted. All I have seen is a nice girl who is more worried about others instead of herself. So regardless of what you look like, you will always be Emilia." Down she goes, and out comes Puck.
*Squish* Puck with the uppercut. K.O.
"That's two in a row now, Puck. What emotion even caused this?"
"Her embarrassment and my feelings as a father seeing their daughter embarrassed."
"I see that my days as a butler are over, It's seems I've become Puck's personal punching bag."
"Hehehe... You're so silly, Ren."
'Maybe life here, won't be so bad.'

Spells Ren can Cast
Goa - While not shown he has practiced it very little.
Fura - His Main Attack atm, he's quite proficient at using it.
Shamak - His only Yin spell, another spell he's quite proficient at.
Spirit Arts
Murak - Removes the effects of gravity and makes them weightless.
Vita - Doubles the effect of gravity.
