To say Scott was not a fan of Mike was correct, he didn't really like the guy all that much. He didn't hate him but they never really got a good vibe going on.
Yet after tonight, he earned Scott's respect, he couldn't imagine what it would be like to live with someone like Mal in your head.
After getting the DVD of Mal's worst actions from Alejandro, he ended up seeing Mike's alleged last words to Cameron, Zoey, and pretty much everyone he cared about. Scott was not ashamed to admit he bawled his eyes out when he heard that speech he made.
So the next course of action was simple, he would tell Courtney and the girls about Mal and hopefully get him voted off. Sounded easy, right?
Wrong.
Scott wasn't an idiot, he was aware that despite the fact he and Courtney were starting to become a couple, he wasn't trusted by Gwen.
He remembered hearing Gwen and Courtney's argument earlier in the night of today's challenge from behind the cabins.
"I'm telling you Courtney, I don't trust Scott." Gwen said angrily.
"Gwen, I know his actions from season four are questionable to say the least but we've also made mistakes, I mean, we both dated Duncan after all." Courtney tried to defend Scott, despite not knowing he was there.
"He blackmailed a guy with a disorder!" Gwen said furiously.
"Look, I understand that's horrible but we shouldn't hold that against him, that was a year ago. He's mellowed down quite a healthy margin compared to Heather and Alejandro." Courtney said sternly.
He then heard Gwen sigh, "Scott's not like me and you Courtney. He's nothing but evil."
Scott had to admit, it hurt to hear Gwen say that.
He didn't like the word evil much. Sure he was a bit of a bad boy but evil seemed to be pushing it. He stomached the whole Heroes vs Villains thing because that's just a theme, not an actual title but to actually hear that someone considered him evil was tough.
Scott wasn't sure if he could tell Courtney about Mal, he could easily lie to Courtney and say Scott was going back to his own ways. He had faith Courtney would trust him, but could he believe that was true?
He didn't know what to do. He couldn't figure out how he could tell Courtney. However, he did succeed in distracting himself when he and Courtney finally became a couple.
When the challenge to save Chris from Ezekiel in the mines occurred, Duncan had randomly kissed Courtney after a collision, he desperately tried to clear up that 'Mike' pushed him, but Courtney wouldn't budge.
Scott wanted to say that it was true, that Mal pushed Duncan and he had done nothing wrong.
But he couldn't. He didn't want to lose Courtney after all they've been through plus he hadn't seen the full scene.
After the challenge, Gwen had won immunity and Alejandro had been booted, despite Duncan's alleged kissing, Mal, Zoey, and Gwen had still voted for Alejandro. There was a tiebreaker between him and Mal due to his vote and presumably, Duncan and Alejandro's.
Mal ended up winning the tiebreaker and everyone decided to see Alejandro off as he was the most threatening Total Drama contestant in history as he spoke, "This show just got a hundred percent less beautiful, but I'm not the real villain, a greater evil is lurking."
Alejandro had then been flushed before he could elaborate, and soon Gwen had invited Courtney to the Spa Hotel, leaving him alone with Duncan and Mal in the cabin. When they began to get ready for bed, Duncan spoke up, "Mike, I know you set me up back there. You totally pushed me into Courtney."
"Oh please." Mal said with his fake Mike impression, "Why would I ever do that?" He smirked.
"Because you hate Scott and you are clearly shady." Duncan said with narrowed eyes.
"But I'm actually a nice guy, you're just the idiotic bad boy who ruined his own relationship with Courtney and is trying to do so again." Mal accused with a cocky eyebrow raise. Oh how Scott wanted to smack the smirk off that prick's face, after everything he did to Mike, and what he's doing to Zoey, he just hated him.
But he couldn't.
In the obstacle course, he had noticed Duncan's feeble attempts to try and get Zoey and Gwen to vote off Mal, and during said challenge, he was also approached by the alter himself along with Courtney.
"So hey. I was thinking we could vote off Duncan tonight. Thoughts?" Mal asked with a smile.
"No problem. After that prick's actions, he's lucky he even made it this far." Courtney smiled.
"Cool. What do you say Scott?" Mal smiled brightly but Scott knew of the malice in those eyes.
"Sure. Whatever." Scott sighed, that was enough for Mal so he continued on while Scott and Courtney ran together.
"Scott? How come you acted so cold?" Courtney asked curiously, "You're not normally like that."
"I… guess I just hold a grudge for him laughing at me in my crippled state in season four. No biggie." Scott explained, not completely lying, he was annoyed at how everyone in the cast minus Cameron laughed at him that day but Courtney couldn't know the truth. Not yet.
Zoey won the challenge that day, and when Scott went to go whittle something, he had heard arguing from inside the cabin and decided to listen in.
"Look Mike, I know Duncan's a bit of a punk but are we sure that we should vote him out?" He heard Zoey ask warily, "I…I really think he isn't all that bad."
"Look Zoey. I know what I saw in the mines! He totally kissed Courtney back there!" Mal said in his Mike impression, though it was clear there was anger in it.
"But Mike, it could have just been an accident and…" Zoey began speaking before Mal narrowed his eyes at the Indie Chick, "And what?"
Zoey gulped, clearly fearful of angering her alleged boyfriend and sighed, "Nothing. You're probably right. I'll vote off Duncan tonight."
That was all Scott needed to hear before heading to the boys' side of the cabin when he heard Mal's footsteps exiting, Mal didn't come in so he felt he was safe. He tucked the DVD into his shirt before knocking on the girls' cabin, Zoey opened it and she looked confused.
"Scott?" Zoey asked in shock.
"Hey Zoey. I was going to give this to you later but… I can't wait anymore. Not after hearing your fight with Mike." Scott told his former rival before giving her a DVD.
"Mal's greatest hits?" Zoey asked in shock, "Mal IS real!"
"Yes. He's real." Scott covered her mouth to make sure she didn't alert Mal himself, "Look, all I gotta say is that we need to vote him off. I'll vote for him, and no doubt Duncan is too. Worst case scenario, we get a tie. Just please go to the Spa Hotel and look at it." He didn't want to subject Zoey to that heart wrenching goodbye speech from Mike, he didn't want Zoey to be miserable but he had to. She deserved to hear Mike's voice again.
At the elimination ceremony, Scott's nerves tensed, even as he received a marshmallow, he was nervous to see who would be eliminated between Duncan and Mal.
"And the last marshmallow goes to…" Chris said happily, "Mike."
"What?!" Scott shot up involuntarily, which got Courtney's attention.
"Why are you so surprised? You knew Duncan was going home." Courtney said suspiciously.
"Yeah Scott. Why are you so surprised?" Mal asked with a smirk.
"Because you're not Mike." Scott finally found the courage to speak, "Alejandro made me aware of your existence Mal, and I'm pretty sure Duncan knows about you too. You've been lying to Zoey to further your own game, and you trapped Mike in his own brain."
"Ugh. I told you Courtney. Scott really is a slime ball after all." Gwen scoffed angrily to which Courtney looked around in hesitation.
"He's not lying. I've been trying to warn you all about Mal since the boat race." Duncan said angrily.
"Yeah, well I hardly trust any crap you say, and nor do I trust Scott." Gwen crossed her arms defiantly.
"He's right." Zoey said sadly, gaining everyone's attention, "I saw the DVD of Mal, he's not Mike. The real Mike has been trapped inside his mind. This is Mal."
"Then why did you vote off Duncan instead of him?!" Scott found himself asking angrily.
"I didn't think Duncan could win a tiebreaker against him." Zoey sniffled, "If Mal's as ruthless as he seems, it would be unfair to force Duncan to suffer through his hand."
Scott honestly couldn't fault her logic, he wouldn't want to face a psycho either.
When Duncan was flushed, everyone went to see him off and once he was gone, Mal decided to open his big fat mouth.
"Such a wonderful display." Mal sniffed the air happily in his deep voice.
"You realize that you'll be voted out the next time you lose right?" Gwen asked incredulously.
"Oh Gwen. I wouldn't worry about that. I'd be more worried about yourself. You haven't seen Courtney's chart have you?" Mal asked with a smirk to which Courtney faltered at, which Gwen noticed and asked meekly, "What chart?"
"This one." Mal took a chart out of his pocket and it showed a drawing of who gets eliminated when from Duncan, Zoey, Mike, and then Gwen at second last. Scott had a check mark signifying he would be Courtney's finale choice.
"Courtney? That's not true right?" Gwen asked sadly, "Y-You said we were going to the finale together."
Courtney looked at Scott with a sad gaze to which Scott glanced sympathetically at causing the former CIT to sigh, "It's true. I was actually planning to go to the final two with Scott, I just didn't know how to tell you."
"I can't believe this!" Gwen said furiously, "You seriously were planning to ditch me for-"
Scott had enough of this, he had to step in, "Oh what Gwen? You're upset for her wanting to bring her boyfriend to the finale?" He asked angrily.
"Well she didn't have to lie to me about it." Gwen narrowed her gaze at the Dirt Farmer who returned it, "Yeah, I'll admit, she shouldn't have done that but she clearly knew you wouldn't be understanding about this. You can't honestly say that you wouldn't have done the same back in Island for Trent with Leshawna."
"At least I wouldn't have made a final two deal with her just to break it." Gwen said coldly before walking off.
He couldn't argue with Gwen on that one, but it wasn't hard to see why Courtney didn't want Gwen to know this. It would probably be worse if it was just to manipulate the both of them but clearly it wasn't.
"You think you're such a goodie goodie because you aren't the same level as Heather or Alejandro." Scott rolled his eyes as he called out to Gwen, "Newsflash Gwen! No one is freaking perfect!" He said angrily to the goth as she walked off with a faltering look.
"Oh man! That was awesome! Zoey, who are ya bringing to the Spa Hotel?" Chris asked happily.
"My choice is Gwen." Zoey sighed, "I don't want to bring anybody else. Sorry Scott, but Courtney needs you."
Scott understood that and appreciated the sentiment Zoey gave them as she left the scene.
Mal just waltzed past the couple as he laughed, "Hope you enjoy your time together. It won't last." He said snidely, earning a glare from Scott.
Soon Courtney sighed as she spoke to Scott, "Thanks for standing up for me. Though I did screw up with Gwen."
"She was acting entitled. You weren't in the right but she could have handled it better." Scott crossed his arms.
"I guess so." Courtney sighed before asking, "Why didn't you tell us about Mal sooner Scott? You knew Mal was around when the boat race ended, you could have said something."
Scott couldn't hold it back anymore and teared up, "I couldn't! I just couldn't! I finally had somebody in my life who cared about me! I couldn't have it ripped away from me because of Mal and Gwen. I heard your conversation about me. I thought that if I ended up telling you this, you wouldn't trust me and… you'd leave me."
Courtney embraced Scott, as he continued to cry, though this time, he wasn't really sad anymore. He finally felt whole. Despite the looming threat of Mal and Gwen being against him and Courtney. He finally felt free from the burden of keeping the secret of Mal's existence, free from the fear of losing Courtney.
He thought he couldn't do it, but he did.
Author's Note: At last, I finally gave Scott a serious portrayal. What a relief. Sorry if Gwen seems like a b*h here, but I made it clear that she has somewhat understandable reasons for her actions.
