It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Spootsmas

Christmas Time. A jolly and happy time of year, where people and animals alike can come together to celebrate the final moments of the year with their beloved friends and family. Sure Arbor Day is like Christmas in a way, in which everyone all gets presents but nothing would ever compare to the relaxing and warm atmosphere of the Christmas season.
And this Christmas is no different for the residents of the Wayouttatown Forest.
Our story begins on the snowy day of December 24, 1996. Everyone in the forest has made plans to spend the holidays with their loved ones. Barry Bear decided that he would spend time with his girlfriend Glodean Bear by listening to Christmas carols with her and spending time with Barry's family. Bing the lizard decided to spend the holidays with his girlfriend of two and a half months named Wanda by taking her ice skating at the local skating arena. Wolfee was planning on spending the holidays with his new girlfriend Tracy by taking her to howl at the moon with him and watch Santa pass by. Truckee was simply just spending the holiday season transporting Christmas goods with his truck to the different states while not really being involved with Oregon much.
Meanwhile, the beaver brothers Norbert Foster and Daggett Doofus Beaver were getting their dam all ready for the upcoming holiday by setting out a cup of maple sap milk and freshly baked wood cookies for Santa when he comes. Their dam was mostly set up for the holidays with lights, wreaths, and candles galore, and even the Christmas tree made out of a redwood tree that Norbert and Daggett chewed down themselves.
Norbert was wrapping up his present to his girlfriend of five months, Treeflower while happily singing "Baby It's Cold Outside" to himself smiling. Meanwhile, Daggett was trying to take a peek at the presents left under the tree like the sneaky rodent he is.
"Now now, Dag. You know you can't open those until tomorrow." Norbert scolds his brother.
"Oh come on, Norbutt! Just one peek won't hurt anybody!" Daggett tries convincing his older brother.
"Dag, you know mom would lose her marbles if she found out we were peeking at Christmas presents the day before Christmas. Now go sit on the couch while I continue wrapping this present for Treeflower."
"Okay." Daggett sighs before plopping down on the couch. "What is the spooty present you're gonna give her, anyways?"
"Oh, only the bestest thing a beaver could give to his lover…Come outside and I'll show you."
Daggett follows his brother outside into the cold snowy weather to see exactly what he made. When the two beavers step outside, Daggett sees exactly what Norbert was talking about and becomes instantly surprised.
"Great googly moogly!" Daggett shouts.
It turns out that Norbert carved a giant wooden sculpture of Treeflower out of wood as a present for her to give to her for Christmas. Daggett stands flabbergasted while Norbert looks in satisfaction at his creation, very appreciative of all the blood, sweat, and love he put into this sculpture.
"Yep. This took me a whole three days to work on but I finally did it. It's even more beautiful than I imagined it to be." Norbert smiles before he starts tearing up as a single happy tear rolls down his face before he wipes it with his finger.
Norbert then finishes wrapping up his present before heading back inside the dam with Daggett to have some hot cocoa and marshmallows with him in the spirit of the holidays. Just then, the moose shaped telephone starts ringing as Norbert rushes to the kitchen to answer it.
"You've reached the Norb-man, how may I help you?"
Just then, his mother Rose Beaver answers the phone.
"Hi, Norby! How's my baby doing?" Rose says in a motherly tone to her eldest son.
"Hi, mom. Me and Daggett are doing just fine." Norbert responds while smiling.
"Oh that's great to hear! Did you two wear those sweaters that I knitted for you? I made them with all the love I have in my heart for both of you, since you boys are my sweet little angels…and you'll always be."
Norbert averts his gaze over to the trash bin, where the aforementioned sweaters lie since they were ugly Christmas sweaters and were also very itchy. He obviously doesn't want to break his mother's heart during the Christmas season, so he decides to lie to her about them.
"Um, y-yeah! Me and Daggett have worn them every day and we think they're very comfy!" Norbert fibs while sweating.
"Awww, I knew you'd love them!" Rose smiles, very appreciative of the compliment given by her son. Even if it was a lie.
"So how've you and dad been doing ever since me and Dag left?"
"We've been doing great, but we've been very exhausted taking care of your little sisters. But I will say, they remind us of you two when you were little. Always happy and vibrant. Just always my constantly smiling bundles of joy." Rose sighs happily and fondly.
"Yeah." Norbert chuckles to himself.
"So how've things been with you and your girlfriend, sweetie?"
"Oh things have been fantastic with me and Treeflower. In fact, I already made her an amazing gift that I think she'll love."
"Awwww, my baby boy is such a sweetheart. You know, you get that from your father."
"I do?"
"Yeah…when we first met, he was always the sweetest guy ever to me. I couldn't have asked for a better man than my Lenny." Rose tells her son before giggling softly, thinking about her perfect husband Leonard. Well, perfect in her eyes at least. Not so much in the eyes of Norbert.
"Alright well it was nice talking to you, mom. I should get going. Merry Christmas!"
"Merry Christmas, Norby! Tell Treeflower I said hi!"
"Okay, I will."
"Love you, sweetie!"
"Love you too, mom."
Norbert and Rose then hang up as he heads back into the living room to watch Christmas movies with Daggett.
Hours later, the brothers decide to finally go to bed so that they won't stay up all night. A mistake they've both made when they first moved in that they have both sworn to never make again. The brothers then put on their pajamas, brush their teeth, and head off to sleep for the Sandman to put them to sleep.
The following morning is one of great happiness and joy for the brothers, as they both get some very great gifts. Such gifts include a big box of Lickedy Splits, a bunch of crummy horror movies on DVD, a case of Yahoo soda, stockings full of candy, and many more. After they're done unwrapping all their gifts, Norbert decides to finally give Treeflower his gift that he's been waiting all night to give her as he puts on his winter coat and scarf and heads out of the dam to carry the large sculpture on his back all the way to her dam.
After a few minutes of walking through the white Christmas snow, he finally arrives at her dam and rings the doorbell as it plays "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vadda" by Iron Butterfly before Norbert sets the present down behind him. Once Treeflower answers the door, Norbert is lovestruck to see his beloved girlfriend wearing a very cute pair of fuzzy pajamas with reindeer on them as her blue eyes look even more beautiful than they normally are.
"Hi, Norby! How's my cutie pie doing?" Treeflower greets her boyfriend before hugging him tightly, enveloping him in the warmth of her morning bedrobe.
"Hi babe. I'm doing really great." Norbert says to his girlfriend before kissing her on the lips lovingly, as she returns the favor. Treeflower notices the large present behind Norbert and becomes curious as to what it is.
"Whatcha got there for me, Norby?"
"Oh, you'll see. Just close your eyes for a bit and I'll let you know when to open them."
"Okay, Norby!" Treeflower giggles before she covers her eyes. She hears Norbert unwrapping the present and becomes more and more excited as to what it is, and even thinks about taking a quick peek. But, she has her self control and decides to just wait until her boyfriend is done unwrapping her present.
"There. I did it!"
Treeflower finally uncovers her eyes and sees the really large wooden sculpture that Norbert made of her. Never in her sixteen years on Earth has she even seen something so beautiful and so romantic, that she actually starts shedding some happy tears of her own.
"Oh, Norby…Did you really make this?"
"Yes I did. Do you like it?"
"Like it? I love it so much! Thank you so much, sweetie!" Treeflower exclaims cheerfully as she hugs her boyfriend really tightly and kisses his cheek many times as a sign of gratitude towards the really romantic gesture towards her.
"You're welcome, babe. I thought it was just something nice that I'd do for you for Christmas." Norbert smiles before giving his girlfriend a single kiss on the nose, making her blush.
"You know…I also have a present for you too that I think you'll love." Treeflower smiles.
"You do?"
"Yes, sweetie. I got it right…here!" She smiles before handing the present to Norbert.
Norbert then unwraps his present, very excited to see the gift that's inside it as Treeflower looks with a satisfied smile on her face. She already knows that Norbert will love whatever's inside.
Or so she thinks.
Because when Norbert opens up his gift, it turns out to be something that is absolutely nothing like what he imagined.
An El Grapadura Themed Drinking Hat.
Norbert does absolutely nothing other than stare at the gift that his girlfriend has given her. He was clearly expecting something far bigger than this, most likely to go along with the very big gift that Norbert gave her. However, he just stares with complete disappointment at the measly drinking hat and not knowing what to do.
"Sooo…what do you think?" Treeflower asks in a seductive and sweet tone before fluttering her eyelashes, awaiting a response.
"This…this is great…" Norbert sighs sadly, trying his absolute hardest to hide his disappointment from his girlfriend.
Treeflower notices his sad tone and becomes a little bit concerned.
"You okay, Norby? You sound like you don't like it…"
Norbert sees her about to get sad, and tries to pretend to be happy to preserve her happiness.
"Um, yeah! Yes I love it! This is the best present I've gotten!"
"You really think so?"
"I know so! I'm gonna use this hat every day!"
"Oh thank you, Norby! I knew you'd love it!"
Treeflower hugs him for a bit before she whispers something in her boyfriend's ear.
"Hey Norby…look up…"
Norbert looks up and sees a mistletoe hanging from the front doorway. A clear indicator of the next move that Norbert should make on her. Treeflower flutters her eyelashes again for him, this time slowly as Norbert decides to give in and follow the tradition of kissing under the mistletoe. After a few seconds of Norbert and Treeflower kissing, Norbert finally breaks the kiss as he starts to get cold.
"Okay, Treeflower I gotta go…I should probably put this drinking hat to good use."
"Okay, Norby! See you later, and Merry Christmas!" Treeflower says before giving him one last hug, making him feel just a bit better.
"Bye, Treeflower. Love you."
"Love you too, Norby!"
Norbert then leaves Treeflower's dam as he walks back home in the cold winter snow again, looking at the drinking hat in disgust before he decides to just keep it because she would be very sad if he didn't.
Minutes later, Norbert arrives home and sees Daggett sitting on the couch still in his footy pajamas.
"Hey, Norby-Orby-O! How'd it go?" Daggett asks his brother.
"Uh…it went great! Never better!"
Daggett notices the soda drinking hat in his hand, and becomes curious about it.
"Is that an El Grapadura drink hat?"
"Yeah. Why?"
"Well I mean you gave her that massive wood thing. She should've given you something big in return."
"Yeah well that's what I thought too…"
"She must hate ya."
"Did not!" Norbert thunders at his brother.
"Did too!" Daggett thunders back.
"DID NOT!"
"DID TOO!"
"DID NOT!"
"DID TOO!"
Daggett storms out of the living room while Norbert goes into the kitchen to grab himself some of the Yahoos he and his brother got for Christmas. He then plops down on the couch, puts on the hat, and changes the channel to a wrestling channel featuring El Grapadura. Norbert starts drinking from the hat as he watches the match, and starts to like the hat a little bit.
On the Television, El Grapadura is shown wrestling a massive rhinoceros. Similar to the one Norbert had to fight during his training to become a Lippizaner stallion four months prior.
"Alright, now we're starting to get some action." Norbert chuckles to himself before drinking the Yahoos from the hat again, as he rests on the couch to watch the rest of the match.
A few minutes of watching the wrestling match go by, as Norbert starts to become more and more invested in the match as he forgets about the crummy gift and focuses more on his favorite wrestler going wild on the rhinoceros. Right in the middle of the match however, the television changes to a commercial for a Christmas Romance movie featuring his favorite actors Oxnard Montalvo and Toluca Lake.
The movie makes him think about Treeflower again, as all the memories of when he first got the soda hat and the disappointment he felt when he got it came rushing back to him and made him feel depressed.
"Ugh…Dag must be right…Maybe Treeflower doesn't love me anymore…" Norbert sighs sadly whilst he remembers Daggett's words from earlier. The beaver then starts crying quietly at the fact, thinking that the one person who genuinely cared about him doesn't care about him anymore.
Many long hours go by, as Norbert gets more and more depressed about the soda drinking hat and Treeflower. That night at 9:21 PM, Norbert is extremely depressed as he is not wearing the soda hat anymore since it was the sole reason he's feeling so down in the dumps. He is nestled in lots of blankets as the couch is surrounded by bottles of Yahoo and buckets of ice cream that Norbert has stuffed his face with.
"Christmas is nothing but a lie…" Norbert says coldly as he drinks another Yahoo.
Daggett then sees his older brother slumped over on the couch, as he becomes disgusted at the sight.
"Such a sad sack of spoot you are."
"Shut up! You don't know anything about what I'm going through!"
"Listen, Norb. You can't just stuff your face with ice cream just because Treeflower gave you a soda hat. You should talk to her about it."
"Just leave me alone…"
Daggett walks out of the living room as he leaves his brother to wallow in his depression and sadness.
"Merry Christmas to me…" Norbert sighs sadly.
Just then, the doorbell rings. This catches Norbert's attention.
"Who could be here this late?" Norbert asks himself before he walks over to the door and answers it.
It turns out, it's Treeflower who's at the door. She stands at the front entrance of the dam in her winter outfit, as Norbert thinks she looks very beautiful. Maybe even more beautiful than ever.
"Hi, Norby!"
"Hi, Treeflower…What brings you here?"
"Well, I figured that since you gave me that really nice surprise this morning I thought I'd give you something in return." Treeflower says excitedly, knowing that Norbert will definitely love this gift.
"Oh really…?"
"Yes, baby! Cover your eyes for a bit and I'll tell you when to open them." Treeflower says while smiling.
"Alright…" Norbert says begrudgingly before covering his eyes.
Treeflower then starts unwrapping his gift for him while giggling softly, very excited to see her boyfriend's reaction to this present. She knew that if he didn't like the gift he got before, then he'll definitely be obsessed with this one.
"Can I open them yet?"
"Not yet, sweetie. When I say you can." Treeflower instructs her boyfriend in a sing-songy tone.
After a few more seconds of unwrapping, she's finally finished opening it.
"Okay, Norby! You can open your eyes now, baby!"
Norbert finally opens his eyes, as he is in utter awe at what he sees.
It's another Paul Bunyon Giant Logger's Express Electric Trainset, just like the one he got on Arbor Day exactly eight whole months before that Daggett ended up destroying out of jealousy and recklessness.
Norbert is in complete shock at the more than romantic gesture that Treeflower had given him and is at a loss for words.
"That's right! I remember you told me that Daggett destroyed the last one you got, so I figured I would be a good girlfriend and get you another one. How do you like it, sweetie?" Treeflower asks her boyfriend as she cuddles him close to her.
"Why…it's amazing! Thank you so much, Treeflower!"
"You're more than welcome, Norby." Treeflower smiles. "I love you."
"I love you too, Treeflower."
Treeflower then caresses his face gently as she looks into Norbert's loving eyes, as Norbert looks into her shiny blue eyes before she pulls his face in to kiss her again. Norbert and Treeflower then share one more Christmas kiss together, both incredibly happy to be with each other during the holiday season.
"Well, I should be heading home now. Bye, Norby! And merry Christmas, sweetie!"
"Bye, Treeflower! Merry Christmas!"
Treeflower then blows one more kiss to him as he catches it before he pushes his large brand new train set into the dam and pushes it into the living room, eager to set it up for the first time. However, Daggett notices and immediately becomes interested in it.
"Oooh! Is that another train set! Can I play? Pleeease?!" Daggett begs his brother.
"No, Dag. You destroyed the last one I got, so this is mine."
"Pleeeease?! With peanut butter bowling balls on top?!"
"I said no!"
Daggett grunts angrily before pouting and sitting on the couch with his arms crossed.
"You're so fun. Spoothead!"
"Oh puh-lease. You're the spoothead!"
"No you're a spoothead!" Daggett yells at Norbert.
"No you are!" Norbert yells back.
Throughout the rest of the night, Norbert and Daggett have their typical brotherly arguments to each other as the Christmas night comes to a close. What started out as a crummy holiday to Norbert soon turned into one of the best Christmas seasons he has ever had. And all of this because of his dear girlfriend, Treeflower. She truly is a blessing in Norbert's life, as both her and Norbert were clearly meant for each other.
Merry Christmas, Spootheads.
And have a happy new year.
The End.
