Omega's head was clouded and unfocused. Had she become the evil she was fighting against? Stumbling out of her ship she found herself outside of Jacen's headquarters. The lookout looked at her with deep suspicion as she approached and said something into his comlink. Before Omega even made it to the door Jacen came running out, blaster ready. Jacen's breath hitched as he saw Omega.
Jacen hadn't seen Omega in over a year, but he knew she was The Huntress and had been keeping tabs on her. The person in front of him didn't look like a hardened assassin though.
"Are you hurt?" he asked to which she shook her head.
"It's not my blood," Omega said in regard to her blood-covered appearance, "I-" Her brows were furrowed and she looked like she was in pain. Jacen put his arm around her and guided her into the building.
Jacen open the door to his private room, and Omega sank to the floor, silent tears streaming down her face.
Jacen didn't know what to do. He hadn't seen Omega this vulnerable since that first conversation they had when she was hopped up on pain meds. Since then, she had been hardened and solely focused on revenge, a demeanor that had earned her the name The Huntress.
"What's wrong?" Jacen knelt down beside her, placing his hand gently on her back. She flinched when he touched her, but quickly relaxed. Taking a deep breath, she started
"I saw an Imperial grab this little girl and take her away from her family." Jacen knew how much that would have meant to her, losing her family had broken her in more ways than one. She continued, "I got him away from her and I killed him. But the girl-" She paused to aggressively clear her tears, "She was more afraid of me than the imperial. Her family knew who I was." She shook her head and looked at Jacen "Am I worse than them?" He shook his head,
"No. The imperials are monsters. You" he paused as her wide eyes looked at him, "You are just a little lost right now. But it's going to be ok." The tears continued to stream down her cheeks, so Jacen tentatively wrapped his arms around her and pulled her closer. After a few minutes, her tears slowed and she sat back.
"Thank you," she said gently, her eyes still wet. Jacen hesitated and then said,
"You don't have to carry the burden alone," He reached out to touch her hand, "I'm here if you want to talk about it." In all those weeks she had stayed with them, she had never spoken about her family. He knew that the imperials killed them, but she had never wanted to talk about it so he never pressed the matter. Omega searched his eyes as if to see if he meant it. Taking a deep breath she started,
"I met my brothers when I was 10. I loved them so much." She told him about Kamino, and then about her treasured years with the Bad Batch, smiling at the happy memories.
Over the next few months, Jacen and Omega grew closer. Omega was working on healing, and as part of that, she reclaimed her name. No one at the base called her The Huntress anymore and for the first time in years, she felt glimpses of happiness.
A few weeks after her 18th birthday, Jacen and Omega were in his room going over strategies for the Alliance.
"I can't believe Mon Mothma finally trusts me with this" Omega remarked
"You can't really blame her for being hesitant, can you?" Jacen said, a smirk pulling at the corner of his face. Omega elbowed him in the side, a smile playing on her face. Then she turned serious,
"I really owe you my life," she said quietly, looking at him with her doe eyes, "thank you." Jacen was suddenly aware of how close they were standing. When they first met, they were both kids, Omega with a huge trauma she refused to deal with. Now, almost three years later he couldn't imagine what his life would be like without her.
He leaned closer to her, looking into her eyes as if to ask permission. Omega lifted her chin and Jacen closed the gap, pressing his mouth against hers. When he pulled back he said a quiet,
"You're welcome." Omega smiled just a little bit before putting her hand on his cheek and moving up to kiss him again. With her free hand, Omega slowly pushed the bedroom door closed.
Omega and Jacen never really talked about their relationship, it was just understood. Everyone on the base understood too. The guys stopped trying to set Jacen up with girls they met at the bar. It also wasn't a distraction, in fact, it strengthened them. They worked even more as a team, and they trusted each other unconditionally.
