Chip On My Shoulder

Chapter 2: Chip On A Boulder

He awoke. He felt horrible. It made no sense, He was terribly disoriented, and confused. Where- No who was He? he couldn't seem to remember... Even in his own thoughts he couldn't glean his own name. He gazed around, confused at the dark looking forest. The pressing matter however, was his odd blips in memory, he felt he was distinctly supposed to not be here. Though he now needed to solve his lack of legs, arms, or any human appendages.

A gasp was loosed from his distinctly non human maw. He looked down at himself His perspective was skewed, it was startling. He couldn't really look at himself truly, only gazing at stubby blue arms, his head seemed to not bend like he was used too, he knew however he seemed to have huge rows of vicious looking teeth, he could feel them. Jagged and sharp. He knew this species was certainly a carnivore. Around him was oddly lowered trees, and mountains looming in the distance. He waddled, for that is the only term that fit what he couldn't even generously call walking. He wandered, cautious. He had no clue if he had stolen this body, or if he simply just got airdropped by the deities here. He had to find a stream, understand what he was working with.

As he hopped down off the boulder, did he realize that is what he was on... He tumbled down, through some brush, and for no better way to describe it. Squealed. His scales clinked against thorns, and he kept his eyes closed, he felt strong, his scales simply resisted the thorns, and as he blindly made his way out, biting any thorns, only once out did he open finally open his eyes. All around the forest, it was lively. A few Buneary hid behind a Lopunny as it watched him cautiously. Moving away with its spawn. Some Gastly's cackled upon seeing my fall, though oddly enough. Kept their distance. He could not see paths, and so far none of them deigned to speak to him, if they even could.

``Hello? Hellooo!`` He called out to the mons, the Gastly's didn't respond, though he knew they heard, by how the cackling intensified, he turned to the Lopunny and his? Her? No clue honestly. Just going to think of them as 'they'. The children waved, some called back, shrill little 'Hey's' and 'Hi's', The Lopunny shushed them, and carried them all, trundling off, still keeping a gaze set on me, though they did offer a faint nod, and they were gone, off into the brush, vanishing to the woods.

He himself waddled off, keeping a watchful eye on where he assumed the mischievous ghosts were. Only their eyes and purple haze betraying their location. Curiously almost every pokemon made themselves scarce, or simply kept a large enough distance, when he tried to approach, they all fled. He eventually heard running water, sprinting toward it, and terrifying some Wynaut's and a few Marill's as he sprinted to the stream.

Upon arriving, there was a huge stream, along the banks, he spotted some pokemon, some drinking the water, a few further down with young ones playing in the stream, he couldn't help but notice all the different species seemed to keep a respectful distance, all the older looking ones watched their own doppelgangers further down the stream, mindful of each other. All seemed tense save the children. A few set their gaze on him, tensed at my waddle to the water to the drink, they all frantically looked around me, as though searching for another threat. he realized why when he found some still water by a rock. he was a Gible?!

It made a terrifying amount of sense. If he was a Gible, then surely a Garchomp mother would be near, which might reveal why so many got spooked. Everyone young and old has heard the many tales attributed to a dragons' ire.

I suddenly felt a lot more nervous at the eyes on me, thankful for the distance. I'd likely get predated by a stronger carnivore the second they realized I was parentless... He squinted, also inwardly noting he needs a name for himself... Something to differentiate merely 'He' in his own thoughts. Perhaps just Gible for now...

Gible squinted around, taking note of his surroundings, and desiring shelter from the sudden onset of paranoia at being eaten. He prayed inwardly that the body had an instinctual understanding of moves, professor Oak said baby pokemon do, which is why egg moves existed, inherited from parentage. He started to excavate dirt on the bank, sinking down.

It did feel oddly familiar. In a matter of what would take a human hours, I did as a mere baby pokemon in minutes. A little hole, along with an open space sizable enough for me resided within the tunnel downward I had made. All with my mouth, just biting through the dirt, and digging with my little hands. Though it makes me wonder where the dirt goes? Questions for a professor, he guessed. Gible still needed to find things...

A source of food, as I felt a bit hungry, and how to use moves. Gible closed his eyes, instantly feeling that intense well of energy, he gasped softly. Is this what all pokemon had? It was incredible! The energy moved, and hummed faintly under his flesh, just out of reach. It felt as though he was a livewire conducting powerful electric currents, the pins and needles sensation came to him as he felt himself instinctively draw on it, it was utterly euphoric, the sensation of being strong. To be beyond some foolish human. He felt uncharacteristic pride and gave an ear splitting grin, he breathed a small spark of Dragonbreath, torching the dirt a bit, turning it instantly a faint orange.

He cackled to himself like an absolute loon. It was exhilarating. To have that available at will. He stopped, feeling like he just got off of a sugar high, a tiny smidge tired, the energy seemed to leap and grow with his emotions, was that just the volatile nature of dragon energy? Or something else... As he clambered out, he spotted a few daring Deerling approach, he knew the seasons now, definitely Summer. You can tell by the coloring, works for him. As a Gible he seemed almost perpetually warm, though the sun felt amazing on his scales. Eliciting an odd joy from within. He was not one to sunbathe, but if it was that pleasant, why not do so... Food first however. He moved along, making deep gouges in the wood as he travelled.

-Some time later-

He ended up finding a bush, though a Pachirisu was nibbling on it, he just greeted them, and they screeched, firing a spark of electricity and running off. The lightning made Gible flinch, but it sparked, tingling along him harmlessly, Oh! That was right, ground and dragon dual typed, so that was how it worked, perpetually grounded I guess. He gorged himself on the Oran berries, they tasted heavenly. The Pecha's were bitter, and Gible disliked the flavor profile. But he enjoyed the amazing Sitrus and the energy it seemed to bring. He oddly enough didn't feel as sated as he expected, the berries were good, and he should probably sleep.

He gazed up, the day was coming to an end, it was afternoon. And he felt exhausted. Perhaps he will experiment with his moves tomorrow. He trudged back, but as he went along, he came to a realization... Where were his markings? All of the trees had haphazard markings he knew for a fact weren't there when he came through, the air was a bit chill. And... He felt oddly sleepy, a red glow permeated the area by a tree, he felt a desire to just curl up and take a nap when gazing into it, and so he did. Plopping down and yawning, he dug a bit into the ground, drowsily covering himself, and went into a fairly deep slumber, he had dreams of strength, of being a powerful Garchomp. To ascend to the top of the world. As he dreamt, an odd inky blackness seeped into the dream, making him feel tired, even in the dream. A bit weaker as well. Eventually, the dream became black. And he entered dreamless sleep for the rest of the night. All the while, a ghostly cackle rang through the night.

-Author Note-

Wrote this on the way home from my dads, no clue if this was written well, give me some feedback if you feel like it. Hope you all enjoyed my probably amateurish attempt at writing. And if you are curious, that was a Gastly using Hypnosis, then Dream Eater. Tell me if you want longer chapters, no idea how long to make them in general.
