I was jolted awake by a sudden movement, and by the time I realized what had happened, I was peeling my face off of the now cracked screen that now shown a red triangle, with symbols scrolling across it that I failed to understand.

Another jolt. The room throttled me around, shaking me until I was bouncing off the walls, until suddenly.. silence.

I peeled my head off the floor and drew breath, trying not to think about the aches that were forming across my body, there was no time for sleep, something was clearly wrong. I stared at the screen, praying that Lord Frieza would send a message, something for guidance.

Then, the door opened.

A hissing sound unlike what I have heard before, and the wall to my right slid aside. Stepping through the now open entryway was a tall creature wit violet skin. golden freckles dusted their body, and their steel gaze locked onto mine.

"So, you survived! Outstanding! To your feet, soldier!" He spoke in a raspy, but commanding tone, the armor he wore was similar to Lord Frieza's in style, but the brown and blue colors complemented him a bit more. It was clearly custom made. At his command, I rose. This was clearly the guidance I had been hoping for. "Coherent, too. I hope you'll be of some use." He pressed a button on the green device he wore and it chirped, before he focused on me, "You've definitely got potential, kid. So I've got a proposition for you. You wanna get promoted?"

"Pro-mo-ted?" I uneasily formed my mouth to eke out the foreign word. He must have seen the confusion on my face, because he nodded and continued, explaining.

"Promotion is how Lord Frieza praises good work. You come with me, and I'll make sure you get whatever you want in this business, no questions asked."

Whatever I want? I racked my brain, I didn't really want anything, but- my eyes lit up as I remembered my wish.

"I... I'd like to meet Lord Frieza!"

The man looked at me, confused for a moment before bellowing out a laugh that made the hairs on my neck stand on end. "Gyahaha! You'll do just fine, kid!" He pulled out a device, and pressed on the screen, "Looks like you don't have a name yet. Saiyans are usually named like that, so... How about Chive? That okay with you?"

"Chive." I tested the name out. "Yes, that's fine with me." I liked it, I had never been referred to anything before, so it was incredible having a title of my own.

"Outstanding. Alright, Chive, I'm Appule, your direct superior. I hope we get along. I'm going to put you to work immediately, we're dealing with a... bit of a situation, and I'll need you to help me fight off the trash. Can you do that for me?"

I nodded, I'd never been in a fight before, but if it meant meeting Lord Frieza, I'll do whatever I can.
