Slingshot had wondered about the string from time to time.

For his whole existence, everything was clear enough. He was created, activated, his body was about to be used as a host for Professor Maezono before Doctor Takeuchi stopped him, and he had to stop Maezono. It was simple and clear. He didn't need any further explanations.

The string on his finger, however, he had some questions about. All he knew was that it suddenly appeared soon after activation. Nobody put it there, it just showed up like magic. It was one red string that shot off in two directions. Sometimes they were close to each other, other times they moved apart like the other ends were moving.

Slingshot didn't know what it meant.

He tried to ignore it, yet it still plagued his mind like a virus one couldn't get rid of. Whenever he had free time—not that he had a lot of time for himself as it was—he messed with it to see what he could and couldn't do. It was moveable and he could feel it with his other body parts. He tangled it up with his other fingers, but it always came undone by itself. It was unexplainable, but it was convenient.

Slingshot even tried to see if it could be severed. Needless to say, there was no way to cut it. It either phased through whatever object tried to cut it or it was in between the blades. There was no result aside from those two. Nothing that he did ever gave him the main answer he craved.

What did it mean?

It lingered until Chiro and the monkey team came along. He didn't think about it until he noticed something similar on Chiro's hand.

He had a string on his finger as well; theirs were connected. All the other parts of the string aside from one faded off, but he could tell what colors they were. Three greens and two reds faded to invisibility. It seemed like it connected the monkeys with him. That was all he could tell, not to whom. One part of his string was red and it didn't fade like the rest. It seemed like whoever was on the other end of that, they were connected to them.

"Hold on, before you go," Slingshot spoke up. Chiro looked at him. "This is going to sound like a weird question, but do you know anything about this? He didn't tell me anything about it to me."

He gestured towards the Super Robot before he held up his right hand. Chiro's eyes widened.

"When I got activated, this showed up on my finger. I don't know what it means, or why it's there, I don't even know if you can see it, but-"

Chiro suddenly hugged him. Slingshot was left speechless. He didn't know how to react. One thing he knew for certain was that the string brightened for a few seconds.

"I can't believe it," Chiro's voice nearly cracked, "I found my last soulmate."

He pulled away and held Slingshot's hands. Tears formed in his eyes.

"I'll explain everything."
