"Is that really what happened?" 21, no.. Vomi, asked her best friend Mitsuki.
"It is. I swear that the only other time I've seen Masaru with that expression was when he found out I was pregnant. Only this time, he had half an eyebrow missing." Neither of the women could hold back their laughter at Mitsuki's confirmation of the most recent of her family's shenanigans.
The two friends were sitting at a local cafe that they had liked to frequent when they could. It was a rare day off for Vomi from the lab and both Izuku and Bakugo were currently at the daycare center. Mitsuki was just an ordinary Japanese housewife and thus had much more free time than Vomi did. Thus the two of them decided to meet up today, swap some stories that they couldn't around the young boys, and just relax in general.
Once her laughter had died down, Vomi took a sip of her tea that she had in front of her to let the pleasant flavor of peppermint fill her mouth and to warm her body up before hse set it back down again. "I know that this is a bit late," she started. "But congratulations to Katsuki on getting his Quirk. Seems like it's going to be a handful based on what you just said."
Mitsuki could only sigh in exasperation. "Thank you and it will be. Knowing how Katsuki can be, it'll probably go to his head because he takes after me like that." The two shared a knowing sigh of the nightmare that will be later in life. "But enough about me. What about Izuku? Anything yet?" Mitsuki picked up her own tea, lemon by the smell of it, before she blew on it and took her own sip.
"Nothing yet," Vomi responded with a tinge of sadness to her own voice. "But I did set an appointment with a Quirk specialist doctor to see if he might have an idea of when it'll appear."
"Well then here's to the day that it does appear then," Mitsuki held up her mug in the air and a wide toothy grin across her face, which Vomi returned by clinking her own against it but with a much smaller and less toothy smile of her own. Sure it wasn't alcohol and they weren't as loud as they would be if they were drinking it but not everyone needed that to have fun. NOt if the way of how animated the two friends were.
And honestly, there wasn't much that could bring two down.
"You're Quirkless. Sorry about that," the old man in front of the two of them had said. The silence was deafening.
"Huh?" Was all that Izuku could manage to get out. His expression was dead locked from the look of excitement that he previously had on. Now it still looked like it but it was far more stiff than before.
"I'm sorry Doctor but could you please explain what you mean?" Vomi managed to get out.
The doctor modded and 'hmmed' at them before he grabbed a pointer stick that was next to him. "By the age of four, give or take a few weeks or months, a child should manifest their Quirk. It can be either of their parents' quirks, both of them, a mixture of them, or in even extremely rarer cases, a mutation that doesn't link to either of the child's parents. However," He used the pointer to point to an x-ray of Izuku's pinky toe. "Early Quirk research confirmed one important finding. It has to deal with the presence or absence of the extra joint in the pinky toe."
The doctor dropped the tip of the pointer and looked at the mother-son duo. "Humans have no need for parts that they don't use, you see. And those without the extra toe joint are the next stage in the evolution process. Izuku here has two joints. It's becoming quite rare these days but, he possesses NO Quirk at all. So, once again, sorry about that."
The doctor had given a nonchalant shrug to them as if to say 'What can ya do?' but Vomi really had a hard time both caring if he was nonchalant or apathetic and whether or not she should just turn him into a desert for how unprofessional he was being. She wouldn't eat him of course but it really was damn tempting to make him see the error in what he was doing.
And with an extremely deep breath to calm herself down, she realized that it wasn't the doctor's fault at all. They were not the first patient of the day by far, nor would they be the last, and he was probably damn close to retiring if this was his current attitude, didn't excuse the fact but he still could be better about it. But she would be damned if she let her emotions flair up and take it out on the man who was doing his job in a way that she disagreed with.
Thus she stood up while holding Izuku's hand and simply said, "Thank you for the help," before she dragged Izuku out of the office alongside her.
And who's to say if she slammed the door and it broke or if it was truly that old to be broken by a simple scientist.
The world may never know.
It had been a few hours since they had returned from the Doctor's office. And Vomi could honestly admit that it had been an awkward time. She Honestly didn't know what to say to Izuku who had just looked so devastated the entire way back. And Izuku himself was quiet the way as well. And she couldn't do anything about it.
And it pained her.
Yea, sure she has all this knowledge that was programmed into her when she became a Bio-Android and all that she knew from the human she was based off of, just not the memories that she once had while she was said human. But that didn't count for anything when she had no idea on how to console her son. If he would just say something then she could help him through his soul crushing experience. Hell, she would much rather it be her going through this experience rather than him but nothing ever works out that way unfortunately.
Thus, here Vomi was in the kitchen making Izuku's favorite meal for she knew not what else to do. Katsudon was a simple enough meal to make and the sounds of the kitchen were the only noises that could be heard in their apartment. At least, for any normal person. Izuku had went to his room when they returned home and had been in there for almost three hours. About half an hour ago, Izuku had decided to leave his room and go into the computer room where she had heard him turn on a video.
I have to do something before it gets worse, Vomi thought to herself. She steeled her heart and turned off the stove, being sure to make sure that nothing would happen in case the situation took far longer than she expected it to. With her apron hung up, Vomi walked down the short hallway to the closed computer room door. She raised her hand to knock on it but paused before she did so.
What am I even going to say to him? Vomi felt herself biting her lower lip in thought. That everything will be alright? That it doesn't matter whether or not he had a Quirk? She internally scoffed at that one. She had read the articles of how the Quirkless were treated, which in most cases was better than how they treated those with 'Villainous Quirks' and those who lived out in the truly rural areas with heteromorphic Quirks. But the only reason it was better was because most people in Japan tended to ignore those who were Quirkless. Other times they were bullied by those whose Quirks might as well make them Quirkless.
And in a world full of special people, Izuku was truly special because he was normal.
Vomi took a deep breath, held it for three seconds, and then let it out. Once she did that, she grabbed the door handle and opened it up. The chair that Izuku was sitting on had its back towards her so she couldn't see his face at this moment. But she could see the video that he was watching. It was of All Might's debut where he had saved dozens, if not hundreds of people, from a disaster all the while laughing, smiling, and saying "It's fine now. Why? Because I am here." Then the video switched, a compilation video apparently, to a scene that was extremely familiar to her. Why? Because she had lived through it.
Of when she had first come to this Earth.
"Mom..." She didn't know how Izuku sounded. Hopeful? Desperate? It was hard for her to tell and it really did pain her heart to admit that. "No matter what kind of trouble you're in, All Might will save you with a smile
And then Izuku turned toward her. His eyes were red and puffy as tears streamed down his face. The expression on his face was still that of disbelief and desperation was painted all over it. And he tried desperately to keep a smile on his face.
Vomi truly felt as though someone had just stabbed her in the heart.
"Can I be a hero?"
Izuku wants to be a Hero?
Why am I just now learning of this?
How can I help him?
Why can't I just take his pain?
I don't know how to deal with this.
Why does he want to be a Hero? I'm sure that he-
Izuku just stifled his nose as he stared at his mom. She had gone silent at the question and it honestly frightened him more than her just outright saying 'No'. The light from the screen reflected off of her glasses so he couldn't see her eyes but her face was locked in a neutral expression.
And then she walked into the room. The only noise that she made came from her steps walking across the floor while the video played on repeat. He felt her lift him up from under his arm pits as she moved him from the chair as she took his place sitting upon it, his new seat being on her thighs. Her chin rested on his head and she had one of her arms wrapped around him, draped over his shoulder and lazily hanging across his chest. Her other arm though, she held out in front of him, palm facing upwards like she was holding something.
To say that Izuku was confused now would be an understatement. And before he could say anything at all, something strange happened.
A ball of light suddenly appeared just above his mom's hand.
His sniffing stopped immediately.
The ball went from a pink core that transitioned into a blood red middle layer that was concealed within black edges. Black lighting that gave off a reddish light cackled around it occasionally but all it did was just sit there, hovering.
Wha-but Mom's Quirk is a regeneration Quirk, Izuku thought to himself. ...unless she received both of Grandpa's and Grandma's Quirks. Where are-
"Izuku," the first words that she had spoken since she had opened up the door to him crying shook him out of his line of thought.
"Do you want to learn to fight?"
3 weeks without an update? Well long story short, I was doing my best to not get shafted. I'm still getting shafted but at least I got to chose how I'm being shafted. Also, I did have some trouble in writing this chapter but in the sense of I knew how I wanted it to end but not how I wanted it to start. Thus I wrote this chapter backwards. And it's also a bit shorter because of that, at around 1,900 words instead of 2,500 and hitting everything that I wanted to.
Anyway, Vomi is now referring to herself as Vomi instead of 21 because of last chapter and part towards the end is suppose to show that all those thoughts that she had were all at once. Kinda hard to convey in written form.
Reviews:
ArguableReader - You'll have to find out more as I write about where this takes place.
LaUgHiNgmaN - Well it does suck to have the hot family members that your friends simp after. And those aren't a abd idea, though maybe later on.
Once again, sorry for the delay, read, review, and enjoy.
Stay Frosty,
