Andy glanced up from her desk, as Emily slammed her mouse down and sighed.

"Thank god . I don't know why Miranda needed those expense reports so urgently. It's not like Elias-Clark is exactly counting when it comes to her, right?"

Andy nodded and Emily stood and hitched her handbag onto her shoulder.

" Remember . I'll be lunching with Serena for at least an hour . I expect you to stay at your desk in case the phone rings. You know Miranda can be even more difficult when she's abroad."

Andy nodded. "Uh-huh."

Emily rolled her eyes and walked out the glass doors. Andy slowly fetched peanuts out of her bag and began quietly eating them, when she jumped and the phone rang.

"Mir - "

"Emily! This nonsense expense report has none of the data I require. It is simply gone. Gone!"

Andy rubbed her forehead and looked at the sweat on her finger tips.

"Um, Miranda, Emily's just - "

" Emily . Do I need to spell it out for you? Find me the latest expense report - or you are gone ."

Andy heard a dial tone and her hands shook. She turned to the computer and opened the file that both she and Emily shared.

"Expense reports… where is the latest one… god but it takes a while to load… I suppose for her , it would ."

The phone rang again and Andy jumped. She picked it up with a quivering squeak.

"Miranda - "

"Emily! I do not see the data I require. Was I not perfectly clear?"

Andy forced herself to type a brief subject line that was not bordering on insubordination, and clicked send.

"Um, Miranda, you should receive it in your inbox now."

There was silence, in which Andy shook and she imagined Miranda, rattling her perfect fingernails on her desk somewhere abroad, and then she heard her boss sigh.

"Ahn-dre-ah. This is too much data. Why am I seeing all this? Can you explain it to me?"

Andy could feel the peanuts in her stomach. She clicked open the expense report.

"Um, Miranda, that's what Emily - "

"I'm not interested in Ahn-dre-ah did, Emily. Your job is to provide me the data I require. I need you to explain why my instructions were not followed."

Andy took a heaving breath, then hope soared in her chest as Emily came back into the office.

"Forgot my credit card - "

Emily saw Andy's panicked face and picked up the phone, pasting on a smile.

"Hello, Miranda? It's Emily - "

Andy, holding onto the phone, could hear the voices of both Emily and Miranda.

"Emily?" Miranda snarled. "Why on Earth am I talking to you and not to Ahn-drea-ah? Is this problem too simple for both my assistants?"

Andy flapped her hands as she covered the phone mouthpiece.

"She wants her data!"

Emily rolled her eyes and gestured. Andy put the phone down and listened to Emily soothe and coax Miranda and Emily closed her eyes and nodded. Andy could hear a dialtone as Emily hung up, clickety-clicked the mouse and leaned back in her chair.

" God , Andrea."

Andy frowned.

"I gave her what she wanted!"

Emily shook her head and sighed.

"Apparently she got mad because the expense report I sent her wasn't showing her what she wanted."

Andy bit her nails.

"You mean the figures were sketchy?"

Emily shrugged.

"She wanted to see the numbers for her trip to London, not the full list."

Andy stared.

"But how could you have known?"

Emily eyed Andy warily.

"You know it's just her - "

Andy waved her hand.

"Oh, don't give me that crap."

Emily glanced morosely at her computer screen.

"She thought the expense report was empty because apparently she tried actually using a keyboard and mouse and navigated to the end of the spreadsheet and she assumed that was what I sent her. That's what you heard on the phone."

Emily shook her head and put her head in her hands. Andy snuck a peanut out of her pocket.

"Well, you know," Andy tried some fake cheer, "At least you can go to lunch now!"

Emily nodded slowly. She picked herself up and tried a stern look but her lip wobbled.

"If she calls again, just call IT. They're always sorting out her issues."

Andy tried not to smile.

"All of them?"

Emily scoffed and covered her mouth as a smile emerged. She headed for the doors.

"One day, I'll tell you how the whole office came to a halt because the idiot junior assistant before you sent an email to Jacqueline Follet instead of Jocelyn… "

The glass doors swung slowly to a halt, Andy nibbled on a peanut and rubbed her stomach, and the phone rang.

"Mir - "

Andy paused and nodded and went red. She bit her lip and smiled.

"Um, have you tried turning it on and off again?"

Andy grimaced and held the phone at arm's length.
